As if on second thought, the One girl’s hand dove back into the pack, rummaging around before pulling out a small container. Flicking the lid open with her thumb, she gestured for Venatrix to lean in.

Venatrix didn’t think twice about it. Her eyes slid shut, awaiting the cool touch of Mariposa’s paint-stained finger. It stung at the scrape on her forehead, her cheek, but the other girl was gentle.

When the hand dropped, Venatrix felt the tin press into her palm. She opened her eyes to find Mariposa’s face very close to hers, her expression patient. The other girl’s warpaint had come off when she’d cleaned the blood from her face yesterday, but she held still as Venatrix redrew the careful line down her forehead, nose, chin.

Her thumb lingered over Mariposa’s lips, still full despite their chapped exterior. “Vee.” The vibration tickled at her fingertip.

Any coldness that Venatrix sensed in her ally had acutely vanished. Those round eyes, the leg brushing her knee, the way her chin seemed to sink into Venatrix’s palm… it pulled her in. Eyes half-shut, Venatrix let the other girl fall into her. They caught each other by the mouth; the next breath she inhaled carried a tang of mint, nearly lost in the feeling of Mariposa’s lips on hers. Sudden desire made her eager, inexperience clumsy, though the other girl didn’t seem to care. At some point, Venatrix registered hands cupping her face, fingers at her jaw, curling into her hair. She didn’t open her eyes to look.

Only when Mariposa pulled back for a breath did she bother. “Sorry,” the One girl murmured, her forehead pressed against Venatrix’s. Neither relinquished their hold on each other, still wound tight beneath fingers burned into skin.

“Don’t be,” Venatrix said. “I think that was bound to happen sometime.”

Mariposa giggled. The sound sent her heart leaping in her chest, and this time Venatrix leaned in first. The One girl’s mirth turned to a sigh as they kissed, and instinctively, Venatrix pulled her in tighter, wishing she had another free arm to help. Not a thought filled her mind outside of Mariposa, the warmth of her lips, the softness of her hair, the jarring scrape of teeth against hers—

Venatrix recoiled as the unpleasant sensation raised the hairs at the back of her neck. “Sorry,” she mumbled, her cheeks flushing hot in embarrassment. Mariposa chuckled again, a low sound that made Venatrix flush deeper.

Beneath her fingers, Mariposa’s mouth split into a smile. Glitter shimmered in the corners of her eyes. “Likewise,” she breathed. “And Venatrix, if you have to kill me…” She pressed her lips together, no doubt tasting blood. “Make me an ugly corpse.”

Her tone—the intensity— gripped Venatrix’s chest like a vice. Her fingers pressed into Mariposa’s jaw, and they sealed the promise with a kiss.

I had a dream last night about Venatrix and Mariposa where they were in a martial arts studio sparring with some other people and they were so coordinated and fought as the perfect team and then Venatrix got to fly a helicopter-

And anyway I almost cried when I woke up bc they’ll never fight together again or fly a helicopter 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Careertober Day 17: The Hunt - featuring Venatrix as a wolf. Oftentimes in her first few months post-Victory, Venatrix dreams of herself as a wolf, hunting and killing (sometimes those she loves). Side effect of the Fenrir mutt, I guess. And that good old narrative symbolism :D ...Yeah. This was p much my excuse to draw her as a furry, its kind of wild that I haven't done that yet. But! It does fit with the prompt c:

🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings

Well my favorite ship pairings are my OCs so everything I say about them /is/ canon so… c: For Maritrix (Venatrix and Mariposa)… since True Vengeance was told from Ven’s pov, I’ll talk a lil bit about Mari’s: her initial interest in Ven was definitely strategy-based, given the nature of the Games. It was probably fairly obvious to the Games-savvy public that Ven would be volunteering in her final year, so she was on the table of potential sub-alliances in the Career pack for Mari for a while. But Mari probably expected her to be arrogant and entitled in the same way that Viper was. And while Ven definitely does have her moments of arrogance and entitlement, I think what surprised Mari the most was that she was genuine. A genuine fighter, genuinely grieving, and for the most part honest/blunt. I could definitely say much more about this but i just have been thinking about them a lot lately (when am i ever not lol) and it sucks that in this story they had to be in the arena together and not like. Living together gayly in a cabin in the woods with charcoal where percy visits them every now and then ;-; ah well. In an au where both gals survive, mari and iago wreak havoc on the internet using ven’s jabber account JFJDKDKD. ((Ok actual headcanon: mari and iago would be besties full stop, it would drive ven up the walls KDKDKDK))

Might as well share some stuff for Oberon and Dagmara too (Ven’s parents for those unawares) bc I have a lot of unposted/unwritten lore for them and I like them too c: so they started off as mentor and mentee since Oberon is 5 years older than Dag and he was assigned to mentor her for the games. Which she was pissed about because ofc she gets the rookie guy instead of the seasoned mentor who brought home more than a few victors. It’s kinda rough; Oberon does his best but he’s also currently having toxic girlfriend issues (tell me he doesn’t look like he had a toxic gf in the past jdjdjd). Anyways, after Dag wins, she and Oberon become closer as friends; Dag is also dealing w the loss of her best friend/cousin/district partner which is Rough for her ;-; she and Oberon are v much friends to lovers vibe, and I think the experience of being victors and having to deal w the shit the Capitol throws at them is probably something that like trauma bonds them 💀 they both go thru a lot but it helps that they have each other, like they both Get it. But yeah, before they started dating, Oberon was lowkey a hoe and Dag Wasn’t* but the relationships/situationships she tried to have w other people were just. Not it LOL. also Highkey. ADHD bf +autism gf.. beloved bihets <3

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

Did a lot of research about turkey hunting for that one True Vengeance chapter. Also about reconstructed Viking ships. For my 163rd games fic I spent some time researching the aerodynamics of those flying/gliding suits. For my 171st games fic i um. I googled what happens when you eat lava. For my 173rd games fic i googled. What does crucifixion feel like. Finger guns :D I also spent some time doing research on types of prosthetics for TrV..! Turned out so well… 💀

🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?

Well. Naturally I do love when ppl write me essays about their thoughts on my writing ;-; I don’t expect everyone to do that though LOL. Honestly just like when ppl are willing to share how my writing made them feel, it’s really neat ;-; There was also this one comment I got a while back that was a form of concrit but it was so interesting to me and I think about it a lot.. mainly bc it made me think of like an argument as to why the plot couldn’t be what the commenter was expecting (but maybe that’s bc I just love talking about my stuff LOL)

YEAH THE DREAM IS SOMETHING… smthn abt the best sleep ven’s gotten since winning being a combination of sleeping at the foot of her parents bed and dreaming that she died so her gf could live.. yeah..

She is sure going to need a lot of time to Adjust to not being in the arena…. Thats what happens when u spend ur whole life preparing for something and then manage to come out the other side alive..! Somehow!!!! ;-; She will realize this soon…

Haha yeah.. home… ;-; she is going to have a Time returning home for sure.. i will say that she does make it home at some point, they wont give her the full Eri treatment 💀

The chains… :) the chains had to show up some point.. i wasnt able to work this into the mythology of the arena but its kind of a callback to how the gods kept Fenrir bound and chained and stuff.. yeah. Tbh not sure about the muzzle for the rest of her Capitol appearances (i haven’t planned her victory tour outfits yet) but its possible that they’d just use other types of jewelry to keep with the theme.. depends on how her mental state is and how wary of her they are.

Ahh thank you i loveeee writing Ven’s anger 🥺♥️♥️ its kinda funny bc irl i am very slow to anger but writing really angry characters is so cathartic.. ven will NOT in fact be careful!!!

Re: Apheleot/Aphelion, that is So funny u say that bc. I actually got Bethia’s name from a mashup between one of my characters and one of my friends characters in another friends fic.. and said friend’s character’s last name was in fact Aphelion LOL. I did that bc i was getting to interviews and i was like shit. I havent named this MoC yet. And i wanted it to be a diff person than the one in my later fics, so i turned to my friend who had the other fic and they were like lol do this and i was like fuck it. Sure. JDJXKDKD.. I REALLY LIKE YOUR INTERPRETATION OF IT THOUGH SO WERE GONNA GO WITH THAT ACTUALLY EVERYTHING I DO IS 100% INTENTIONAL ♥️🫶
