S2 Ep 42 Ashes Gone Cold

Decided to start my morning with an episode since I seem to have time, and it makes me feel... safer, less anxious about the new day, so. It was really nice.

Maria briefly filled Sam in on De Witt's situation but I think Bill didn't manage to deliver the fact that De Witt was Morrison's prisoner when he was telling her about what was going on. So obviously Sam decided they need to stop De Witt.

Duuuude. You don't need to stop him, you need to HELP him! Morrison's the bad guy here! I hope they figure this out eventually, before something irreparable happens.

Also Ren works not under Morrison but against him and why doesn't it make me feel any better, hmmm???

Other than that, I like this episode for Sam's reflection on his life in this cabin. Sure, things weird af happen there often enough, but then again he isn't very mundane either.

He stopped thinking about the world outside, the news, everything. Just took long walks, read books he found in the cabin (Lovecraft, just the luck! And it was a serial killer's cabin as it turned out, how nice), finally figured out how to meditate (I envy you, Sam Bailey!)... learnt to recognize the birds he saw - not by species but just the familiar ones. That sounded so peaceful - I feel similarly when I come to the village, if there are no pressing matters like work or life problems. I'm really thankful to TST production team for letting me feel this way again. It's one of the best feelings in the world. Slow, safe, comforting. Lets me bring my racing thoughts to a halt for some time.

But I also recognize the feeling when this necessary pause to breathe is over, when you're ready to go further, and what used to be peaceful starts to feel like a trap. I'm glad Maria came to get him out of there just in time.

I’ve seen the weather shift, and the forest along with it. And it does change, each and every day, just… just a little bit. I didn’t think it was possible to know a place this way – to feel the rhythm of it, like a heartbeat beneath my feet. Even this high up, in the thin, dry air… There is so much life.

TST Old Notes Re: S2 Ep 36 Gilded Tomb

Most supernatural (adventure/fantasy/sci-fi) shows: the world need a rescue team so it will just gather together by some miracle, even if they have no idea what's going on.

TST: We're having none of that

Like, The Team was mostly gathered by the end of season 1: Sam lead the investigation on Anna's disappearance, Bill and Maria helped him each for their own reasons (Maria's pov is that Sam was helping - or rather getting in the way of - her), De Witt also was of help occasionally, and Kate was just a background character on some of the tapes. But, y'know, they GATHERED. Aaaaand then... nothing. Yes, Bill's hiding Sam, Sam is still exploring wth is going on with him and in general and probably listening to Anna's tapes, Maria is still chasing Anna's ghost, sorry, doing what she considered Anna's work. Bill and Maria keep in touch... err, have a call once in a few months. That counts, right?

So basically the world-saving team knows something's off but refuses to be a team, going each their own way.

So when Kate tries to reach them on Anna's request, she hits a brick wall. She calls Maria immediately, but Maria knows how dangerous all this stuff is and how far Kate is from this. She doesn't want to pull her in, so she tells Kate to try Bill (since he's the one hiding Sam so only he can talk to Sam and decide if they let Kate know anything). Bill, being the sensible and caring person, a good friend and also a responsible police officer, refuses to talk to her about anything. Yes, later on he consulted with Sam and they decided they could use any help they can get, so Kate is welcome, but I don't know when exactly it was. So Kate comes to Oslow, spends there 6 days, learning all about the cult and the lightning ball aliens, trying to talk to witnesses since Bill was still out of reach... Nothing. Desperate, she comes across Anna's recording from 2003, when she wrote a story about a mine accident taking place in what was going to become Oslow a century later. And what do you know, the former mine is just 10 minutes away! Kate really wanted to have at least SOME results - don't ask me how driving to the desert in the middle of the night was supposed to help her find Anna, she was sleep-deprived and, like I said, pretty desperate at this point, - so she drove there. And met Ned and Bill.

It's just infinitely funny to me how Kate had to ACTIVELY CHASE Bill for days, try to contact whoever she managed to DO SOMETHING, but all to no avail. The world-saving team is really stubborn in their unwillingness to gather, and it's been several episodes into the season by now x))) I like it 😆

(But I also wish Sam's episodes were a bit more frequent.) (And Bill's ones, probably, but looks like The Team is finally giving up and is gathering anyway.)

A ministra Maria Cristina Peduzzi, relatora do caso, acolheu a tese e foi acompanhada por unanimidade.
