sorry I am new to this but what is the difference between bundesliga and dfb pokal? how come bayern won bundesliga multiple times yet not pokal? is it more difficult competition? :/
hi, welcome! nice to have you here!
so basically bundesliga is the league, "daily business" as bayern bosses would say. we have 18 clubs in the first bundesliga. everyone plays against each other twice, once at home, once away. whoever has the most points in the end wins the league. so it's all about consistency.. you have to beat as many teams as possible during the season and collect many points. because bayern has a very good squad and tends to win loads games the won a lot. part of that is that many competitors aren't as consistent.
the dfb pokal is a cup. in the first round are teams from the bundesliga, bundsliga 2, 3.liga and down to some small local clubs that play in one the regional leagues (not all of them tho.. there are certain criteria that i don't even know)
the first and second round of games are drawn from two pots, one with the professionals (better clubs) and one from the lower league clubs, which means bayern often gets a very small club as a first opponent.
since it's a knock-out competition and you only get one chance of winning the game and getting to the next round, chances are higher that you are out of the pokal when you have a bad day or are simply unlucky. in Germany we say "der Pokal hat seine eigenen Gesetzte" (pokal has its own rules) because there are usually some crazy matches with lots of goals or a small club kicking out a bundesliga 1 team. so fun times all around.
and especially in the last years bayern had some pretty bad second round matches.. and that's the reason they didn't win as much
(+ the second round is often in late autumn or winter and bayern play their worst matches during that time lol)
hope that helps and sorry for the long post :)

Marie sighed as she put down her phone, slight anger boiling in her at the fact her lover had yet to tell her where she had transferred. After her contract was up, Marie hoped she would come to Liverpool.
But she didn't even know if her lover had been offered a contract by them. She knew Real Madrid had offered and that Arsenal had made a swinging bid for the CAM but she didn't know what her lover had chose.
The two, when they first came together years ago, made a promise to never affect the other with their football, they were to focus on their careers and their careers only, the rest they could make work, even if they were oceans apart.
"You okay?" Grace asks Marie, her head tilted in kindness as she asked.
"Yeah, fine." Marie smiles, accepting her friend's hand to pull her to her feet.
"Right." Matt Beard calls, clapping his hands as the group gather around him and the staff. "Now, we've been relatively quiet this transfer season, however, we have got a new arrival." Matt explains.
"You what?" Jenna asks, confused as to how this was all kept quiet, the press more often than not finding a thread to pull on and unravel.
"It was kept quiet and cleverly so." Matt continues. "But please give a drum roll for..." Matt begins.
The Liverpool women all begin to stomp their feet excitedly and start a quiet 'ooh' with jazz hands, it was something they started a few seasons ago to make newcomers feel welcome.
"Our new CAM y/n l/n!" Matt cheers and y/n jumps out from behind the tunnel, a few of the girls cheering loudly as they knew the girl quite well.
Marie however charged forward, her shorter body wrapping into y/n's the taller girl picking her up and keeping her close to her body Maire pulls her head off of y/n's shoulder.
Marie's hands come around her face, cupping her cheeks as y/n keeps a tight grip on her, the Austrian talking quickly at her, the German language spilling past her lips as she questioned her lover.
"Marie, pass auf, dass dein Team da ist." y/n chided quietly.
marie, careful, your team is there.
Marie had been the one who wanted to keep the relationship quiet, and almost six years in, y/n wasn't as worried about people knowing, but she knew Marie still looked over her shoulder.
Marie huffed out an annoyance, tucking her head back into y/n's neck as the woman set her back on her feet and moved over to the rest of the team.
"I know most of you, I am aware, but either way, It is exciting to be play with all you." y/n hums, her English getting slightly confused in her head, which no one bothered to mention.
"This is so exciting." Grace cheers jumping at her friend who laughs and hugs her.

y/n laughed as Grace mimicked her second goal celebration, the new CAM subject to some teasing as she scored her second against Brighton and then panicked, not knowing what to do to celebrate.
In y/n's defence she hadn't expected the shot to go in from so far away, so just stood there in shock for a second as her team jumped on her excitedly.
The group had all changed and were heading to their cars and Marie grabbed her lovers bags, packing them in her car as the two had rode here together.
The team didn't seem to question the fact they were living together, despite Marie living in a one-bed apartment. Out of reflex, y/n muttered a thank you in German and pecked her lover's lips, Marie, holding her neck for a moment to lengthen the kiss.
Marie didn't seem to notice as she continued and shut the boot of her car, turning around to see her team paused confused as y/n stood with an awkward look on her face.
Marie paused, going to ask what was wrong when her hand flew to her lips in shock, as y/n tucked her head in her hands as the team flew into shouts of confusion.
"Well, I guess no better time than this." Marie chuckles. "Yes, we have been together, together since we were 17 and no, we didn't feel the need to tell anyone." The girl explains to her teammates.
y/n still had her head in her hands, annoyed at herself for outing them in such a way, so she didn't notice Marie sigh and slowly kneel, her teammates suddenly silencing in shock.
"Meine Liebe?" Marie asked softly.
my love?
y/n groaned, her head still in her hands as she muttered apologies under her breath.
"Fünf Jahre Liebe mit dir, also vielleicht eine letzte Übertragung, meine Liebe, auf meinen Nachnamen?" Marie asked.
Five years of love with you, so maybe one last transfer my dear, to my last name?
y/n's head snapped up, her hand coming up to her mouth as she noticed her love on one knee, ring box in hand. Grace was crying, wiping the tears which wouldn't stop.
"Ja. Ja. Ja." y/n whispered, tears being blinked away as Marie grinned standing up to hug her lover whispering sweet nothings in her ear as the team cheered.
The two pulled away, leaving just enough space for Maire to slide the ring over y/n's finger, before they met in a kiss made of pure love as their team-mates tried to understand what had just happened.

There is light at the end of the tunnel II Mary Earps x Reader
"I just want to say thank you so much to my loved ones who have picked me up off the kitchen floor to be here today, not specifically tonight but a few years ago. For anyone who has been in a dark place, just know there is light at the end of the tunnel, so keep going." ~ Mary Earps, The Best Fifa Football Awards 2023
masterlist I word count: 2121
disclaimer: description of depressive behavior but with happy ending
A few years ago…
“I can’t move from the floor.”, Mary announced to you over the phone. Her voice sounded uncharacteristically flat and emotionless. Deeply concerned you asked her:” Mary, are you okay?” “No.”, the goalkeeper numbly replied. This was it immediately you started to act:” I’m looking for flights right now. I can be in Wolfsburg in the evening. Babett will drive me to your place.”
“No. Don’t come only because of this.”, your girlfriend whispered. You sighed before explaining: “Mary, I’m not only coming because of that. You haven’t sound like your usual sunshine self for a while now.” “It’s nothing.”, she tried to shrug it off. But you just ignored her answer: “Your spare key is still hidden at the same place, right?” “Yes.” “Alright. See you in the evening.”, with these words you ended your phone call.
Only a couple of hours later you found yourself in Babet Peters car. From Marys teammate you wanted to know:” Babs, how is Mary doing? Please be honest with me.” “Honestly? I don’t know. She’s been isolating a lot later.”, she truthfully said. Worried you remarked:” That doesn’t sound like her at all.” “No, it’s not.”, the German agreed.
The rest of the car ride you spend without talking. As Babett reached the place the goalkeeper lived at you could not get out of the car quickly enough:” Thanks for driving me.” “Call if you need anything, okay?” Grateful you responded to the defenders offer:” Okay. See you.”
In a rush you picked up the spare key and let yourself into Mary’s appartement:” Mary?” “Kitchen.”, she stated, sounding very exhausted as if the announcement alone costed her a lot of energy. You tried to compensate that with a cheerful tone: “Hi, are you hungry? Do you want me to cook your favourite dish?” “No.”, slowly the goalkeeper shook her head.
A sad expression appeared on your face as you repeated:“No?” “I’m not hungry.”, Mary said while she kept laying on the ground of the kitchen. The light in this room was as dimmed as the mood she was currently in.
Concerned you looked up to the ceiling not trusting the bulb to keep on for a much longer time before turning your attention back to your girlfriend:” Have you eaten anything today.” “This morning.”, the goalkeeper declared annoyed by your concern of her eating.
With a sigh you gave up trying to bring routine back into your girlfriends life. It was obviously not the right time. In an attempt to be close to her while still giving her enough space, you laid down next to her on the kitchen floor. Patiently, you were waiting for Mary to spark the conversation again but she remained silent. You could see the thoughts racing behind her eyes as she kept staring at the ceiling.
Crossing your arms behind your head, you did the same; “To be fair, your kitchen ceiling does miss some glow-in-the-dark stars.“ “What for?“, Mary replied, her gaze still fixed straight in front of her. You turned your head towards her; “So you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.“ “What if there is no light?“, she countered bleakly, finally looking at you. You smiled softly; “There’s always one. Trust me.“ Carefully, you took her hand in yours, guided it towards your lips and softly pressed a kiss onto her knuckles. Just that little motion made the tears in Marys eyes well up again.
She shook her had, barely noticeable; “But maybe it’s not in football.“ You frowned, finally understanding the reason for her misery. “You have all the options, Mary, but I think you’re not done with football yet…“ “I’m not getting called up for the national team anymore. I’m barely playing here.“, she explained with desperation in her voice. “Love, this is not the end. Even if it might feel like it at the moment.“. You put a hand on your girlfriends tear-stained cheek. “No, you don’t understand…“, she replied bleakly, not turning away from your touch yet. She seemed horribly exhausted. “Explain it to me.“, you pleaded.
The words came bubbling out immediately; “I have a mortgage to pay off. I’m not making enough money with football. Especially when I’m not playing anymore.“ “Hey, I can help you out…“, you offered, but Mary shook her head; “I don’t want help. I’m benched here, I wasn’t called up for the lionesses again. I don’t know why I’m even doing this anymore.“ She was visibly upset, so you tried your best to keep your voice calm and soothing; “It’s not weak to get help, Mary.“ “That’s not the problem. I just don’t want to feel as useless anymore as I do now!“ You flinched involuntarily, hearing her talk about herself like that; “Mary, you’re never useless.“
“Easy to say.“, she mumbled, her voice now thick with tears. You sighed, momentarily running out of words of comfort; “I know.““It just.. it feels like all effort is worthless. I’m working my ass off and I’m still not good enough.”, the goalkeeper tried to put her feelings into words. These self-destructive words from the person you loved the most made you shook your head determinedly: “No, you’re always good enough.”
“Stop that.”, Mary begged you. Confused you glanced at her:” Stop what?” “Telling me that.”, she answered in an earnest tone. Reluctantly you said:” Okay.” “Thanks.”, your girlfriend let out a shaky breath. “You’re welcome.” Desperate Mary announced: “I just feel like shit.”
“Maybe we should start move you into your bed.”, you thought out loud. The taller woman who felt like all of her energy had left her body, asked you: “Why?” “Because the floor is really uncomfortable, don’t you agree?”, you wanted to know from her, a weak smile on her lips. A laugh escaped the goalkeeper’s mouth which warmed your heart:” I think it’s quite nice.” “Really?”, sceptically you threw up an eyebrow. An amused grin was slowly appearing on Marys face:“Don’t you think?” “No.”, you disagreed sternly. “Fine then.”, your girlfriend gave in.
Carefully you stood up before you helped the goalkeeper up aswell: “I think I’ll start cooking something for us.” “Wait. I’ll help.”, Mary offered her assistance, a bit of her usual self was glimpsing through her sadness. With a shy smile you pressed a kiss on to her cheek:”Thanks.” “You’re welcome.”
Quickly you cooked something, and you were relieved about the fact that your girlfriend was able to eat a bit of it despite everything. After the dinner you noticed your girlfriends, cheek turning red as they always did when she got tired or played:” Time for bed?” “Sure.”, Mary could not suppress a yawn during her reply.
Only a few minutes later you found yourself in your girlfriend’s bed, your head was resting on her broad chest, the beating of her heart was a comforting sound in your ears especially tonight.
Cautiously Mary started:” So..?” “Yes?”, you lifted your head to look into her beautiful eyes who were still a little red from all the crying earlier. Carefully she continued:” You think it’s not time to quit football yet?” “I don’t.”, you answered confidently. Truth be told you did not know why you were so certain about this but your heart told you that there was still so much more for her in store as a goalkeeper.
Mary took a deep breath, trying to calm herself; “Maybe you’re right.“ “Also, you never give up so easily…“, you said which caused your girlfriend to frown. “I don’t think it’s easily. I’ve been playing for years.“, she stated. “That’s true.“ “But I’m not going anywhere.“, she finished with a sigh. Fresh sympathy for your girlfriend washed over you. You gently squeezed her hand. “I’m proud of you. You know that, right?“ “I do. And I’m grateful for where I am. But you know I always want to be better.“, Mary admitted. “I do.“ She rubbed her free hand over her face; “It’s just hard to balance everything.“ “But you’re so good at balancing.“, you replied. “But sometimes the whole thing just tips over…“, she continued, letting her hand fall from her face.
You smiled to yourself; “You mean like me when I spill yet another drink with my clumsiness?“ “Basically.“, Mary answered, returning the smile. Your heart skipped a beat, seeing her face light up again. “And you have great team mates here.“ “I do.“ Her face turned serious again, the small moment gone again. You watched her for a moment, debating if it was the right time to ask her. Nervously, you asked; “What do you think about if I moved here to Wolfsburg?“ “What?“ Marys expression was unreadable, so you just shrugged; “You heard me.“ “Seriously?“ “Yes, I’m serious about it.“
Your girlfriend stared at you, her mouth agape while you waited for an answer. “I would prefer to go back to England if I get the chance…“, Mary revealed sheepishly. Taken aback by the news, you plainly answered; “That would be great.“ “I want to be closer to you and my family again. Maybe that would help.“, she explained. You nodded empathetically. This did make sense now. “I’m sure it will.“ There were a few moments of silence between you.
Apparently you both needed to let this conversation settle. With a slight look of relief, Mary turned to you; “Thanks for coming though.“ “No worries.“, you replied, blinking against the tiredness that suddenly came over you. Mary let out a breath that was half a sigh and half a laugh; “A lot of worries actually. But you not having my back definitely isn’t one of them.“ “I’ll always have your back. I promise.“, you replied, suppressing a yawn. “I know that.“ Mary smiled softly while running a hand through your hair. Your heavy eye lids closed at the touch; “Sleep well, Mary.“ “You too, love.“, she whispered.
Years later that scene faded into the background of your mind but during Mary’s The Best Fifa Football Awards speech for the best goalkeeper it brought the old, sad memory back to life. She had such a low point in her career aswell as in her personal life in Wolfsburg which people tended to forget because of the major success your now wife recently had. Winning the Euros last summer was the icing on the cake. The words Mary was able to find to remind people that there was always a light at the end of the tunnel moved you to tears.
Amused Lucy Bronze glanced at you:” Are you crying because of your wife’s speech?” “Oh, shut up, Lucy. It was really a tough time to her back when in Wolfsburg.”, you replied with a sad smile. Still the defender kept teasing:“Can’t believe you’d be crying.” “Those are proud tears.”, you pointed out to her. A huge grin was on the dark haired woman face:“Oh, they are?” “Of course.”, you laughed while you tried to wipe away the upcoming tears. Clearing her throat Lucy demanded from you as she saw your wife coming back to join you two:“Stop crying.”
” Lucy, did you make my wife cry?!”, Mary yelled smiling at her England teammate. Quickly the defender shouted back:“You made her cry!” “Because of your beautiful speech.”, you explained the goalkeeper. An apologetic smile was forming on her lips:“I’m sorry.” “You deserve to win this so much Mary.”, you softly shook your head. Touched Mary answered: “Thanks. But I wouldn’t have done it without you.” “You’re welcome.” “Who knew how fast things can change.”, she reminisced. In a low voice you agreed:“Very true.” “Come here.”, Mary requested. Quickly you followed her demand as you gave her a kiss which you hoped transmitted how proud you were of her. Close to your ear the goalkeeper whispered a sincere:” Thank you.”
The cute moment between only the two of you was interrupted by Beth Mead who immediately pulled your wife into a hug:” Well done, Mearps.” “Thanks, girls.”, Mary beamed at her teammates. Meanwhile Vivianne Miedema couldn’t help but to add :” At least one right person won tonight. Beth should have gotten the prize not Alexia Putellas.” “Viv, stop.”, her girlfriend was eyerolling at her. This made Lucy choose the dutch forward’s side:” No, I agree with your girlfriend. As much as I like Alexia.”
Still this did not dimmer Beth’s celebratory mood:”Come on girls, it’s time to party!” “Yes, come on, love.”, Mary turned to you enthusiastically. Excited you let her take your hand: “Can’t wait to start dancing with you.”
The goalkeeper winked at you:” Hope you’re ready for it.” As you were making your way on to the dance floor you replied cheerfully:” With you? Always.” Let the good times roll in.

Another football rant
Why why the fuck are men and only men to quick to argue that mens and womens football soccer isn't equal like what the actual fuck
Because I actually had to explain to a man that yes, the women's game exists and contrary to his opinion most of the all time record holding players, are women
Like all time international goal scorer Christine Sinclair of Canada with 62 more goals than Ronaldo at 190 int goals
All time most capped player not Ronaldo It's K Lily with 354 int caps to Ronaldo's 205
Most Euro Club Championship wins tied between Wendie Renard and Eugénie Le Sommer with 8 yes 8 Women's Championship titles each the guy who's won the most who's name I can't remember has 6 titles
Fun fact I can't remember if it's caps or goals but Ronaldo only ranks ties 7th with a German player whose last name is Prinz I actually wrote the actual thing in another rant so if you want to know, read my other rants to figure out which one
And I'm pretty sure that the all time that's both mens and womens world cup goal scorer is Marta might want to check but I know she's the all time scorer in the womens world cup.
Also yeah like men are also like really likely to be whiny bitches when a woman wins an award over a man, just because he's like a man
Great example of this is when Mary Earps won the 2023 spoty award like in 2023 Mearps won two golden gloves like 2 minor international tournaments second place at that years world cup which she both won the Golden Glove and set records in an mbe a FIFA Best gk FIFA 11 and England player of the year and a whole other tonne of awards And yet some people Pierce Morgan and his disciples still thought she shouldn't have won that years spoty I personally think they're all jealous because Mearps is amazing because they're also jealous because that's the second time in two years that a Lioness has won the award
Another thing why is it men and only men that say it's not equal that is meant to be sarcastic so like put quotations around it for a win in women's and men's football earlier I had to read that apparently Sam Kerr the entire Tillies squad and Kristie Mewis aren't better than one slightly below average man U player just because the dipshit that said it is a sexist homophobic dipshit who believes that lesbians are worse at soccer when anyone that knows knows that the real goats of soccer are the lesbian icons of Marta Putteas Kerr Sinclair and Miedema both the singular and couple moving back on track how is one guy better than a team that has players at the best clubs in the world Real Madrid Chelsea man c Arsenal Olympic Lyonnais Paris Saint Germain, Wave fc just to name a few. And also one of the best current US midfielders in K Mewis as well like what deluded world do you live in mate
Anyway I am so drunk right now so like because this is speech to text I am gonna post this now and come back and edit it later and because I know me with my adhd could be a fuck load of time

#unhallowedarts - "I spread it over centuries, and time is on my side" - Bram Stoker's Dracula
“You reason well, and your wit is bold, but you are too prejudiced. You do not let your eyes see nor your ears hear, and that which is outside your daily life is not of account to you. Do you not think that there are things which you cannot understand, and yet which are, that some people see things that others cannot? But there are things old and new which must not be contemplated by men's eyes, because they know, or think they know, some things which other men have told them. Ah, it is the fault of our science that it wants to explain all, and if it explain not, then it says there is nothing to explain. But yet we see around us every day the growth of new beliefs, which think themselves new, and which are yet but the old, which pretend to be young, like the fine ladies at the opera.“
(Bram Stoker “Dracula”)
It was a indeed a dark and stormy night, the one in the year without Summer back in 1816, when the Shelleys, Byron and his physician John Polidori sat down to make pop culture history. Cut off from the world, bored witless and full to the brim with laudanum, his lordship challenged the gathered Romantic enfants perdu to lift the burden of ennui with telling ghost stories in the German fashion. And while both Byron and Shelley brought off rather nothing except consuming more narcotics that night, Mary famously began to write “Frankenstein” and Polidori engendered the other treasured dread, the aristocratic, suave, blood sucking king of the undead, the vampire. The myth itself was, of course, centuries old and only two generations before, a downright mass hysteria ran through Europe when repeated cases of vampirism were reported in the Balkans along the Austro-Turkish military border.
Polidori though took the revenant peasant prowling around his former home and sucking the blood of his family, clad him in evening attire and modelled him after the pattern of his employer into a Byronic hero. Polidori’s Lord Ruthven became the ancestor of the 19th and 20th century’s vampires that haunted the imaginations of countless readers and the pages of Gothic literature from the likes of Gogol and Merimee to the infamous penny dreadfuls. One of these featured a creature called “Varney the Vampire” who brought in the fangs and the tell-tale bite marks and Sheridan Le Fanu’s “Carmilla” from 1872 gave the myth the structure of a long dead noble á la Coleridge’s “Christabel” haunting a damsel in distress and a group of heroes bringing the creature to bay with the help of ancient lore and occult paraphernalia. The groundwork was laid and along came Bram Stoker.
As a child, Stoker was bedridden until the age of seven, rose as from the dead after his mysterious illness all of a sudden ceased, became a football star at college, graduated in mathematics and ended up a pen-pusher in Dublin Castle. Not satisfied with his lot, naturally, Stoker changed his career to theatre critic at the Dublin Evening Mail, owned by Sheridan Le Fanu, and attracted the attention of the famous actor Sir Henry Irving with a favourable review, the two became friends and Stoker followed Irving to become his manager. Meanwhile he had won the hand of Florence Balcombe, a celebrated beauty, courted by Stoker’s acquaintance form Trinity College Oscar Wilde as well as a host of other suitors. Stoker would bring these experiences into a literary form in his opus magnum “Dracula” with Sir Henry Irving acting as model for the undead count as Byron did for Polidori 80 years before.
Stoker had never been to Romania, during the 1890s a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but he did a thorough research on his subjects that he would add with iconic effects to the imagery of the literary Gothic, from local legends of the 1750s, the late 15th century Wallachian Prince Vlad III. Drăculea who was famed in western European sources for his cruelty and other inspirations from Central Europe like Princess Eleonore von Schwarzenberg, rumoured to be a vampire during her lifetime at the beginning of the 18th century and already an inspiration for German poet Gottfried August Bürger to his poem “Leonore”. Well-known enough known to Stoker and everyone else who read and wrote Gothic literature.
Pitting his research-wise well founded mythical Count and his ancient evil that bears strong resemblances to the feared syphilis as well as despicable moral liberties against the forces of the modern age, trains, the telegraph, typewriters, repeating rifles and established processes and organised teamwork, based on thorough research. Published in 1897, “Dracula” became an instant success and the standard followed to this day, even if Stoker and “Dracula” act only as powers behind the throne of “Urban Fantasy”.

Do the monegasque family have to be so attractive during a pandemic? Also could you please explain some of the main members.I know Prince Albert and his little family and Grace Kelly only.
The Kelly and Casiraghi genes are great, the family members who got them are damn lucky haha. Sure.
So you know the main royal family. Prince Albert who is 62, he became Prince of Monaco in 2005. He married Charlene Wittstock, a South African swimmer who had competed in the Olympics, in 2011. They have twins, Jacques and Gabriella, who were born in December 2014. Gabriella is older but Jacques is heir as Monaco still has male preference primogeniture.
Jazmin Grimaldi: Albert’s illegitimate daughter. Jazmin was born in the US in 1992 after her mother - then a waitress - had a fling with Albert. The Prince knew about her but didn’t spend time with her until she went to Monaco for the first time aged 11. He acknowledged her publicly in 2006 after a DNA test. Since then they have become close. Jazmin regularly spends time in Monaco and speaks very fondly of him. She is close to the younger Grimaldi cousins (particularly Pauline Ducruet, she’ll be covered later) and has been to official events with both Albert and Charlene. She is a singer and is dating Ian Mellencamp, the nephew of John Cougar Mellencamp.
Alexandre Coste: Albert’s illegitimate son (on the right with Jazmin in the middle). His mother is from Togo and was an air hostess when she had a relationship with Albert that lasted several years. Alexandre was born in 2003. Again Albert knew he existed and spent time with him; he eventually publicly acknowledged him in 2005. Alexandre is a lot less public but he is still a child - he’s only 17 - and has been heavily protected because he was acknowledged at a younger age than Jazmin. His social media is private and unlike his sister he hasn’t given interviews. But Jazmin has said he also lives part time in Monaco and they get on well as a family, and he has been to family events like weddings
Princess Caroline: Albert’s older sister. She is 63. As Albert took so long to marry she took on a lot of the charitable roles her mother had established - she is Chair of AMADE which was founded by Grace and Chair of the Princess Grace Foundation. She’s best known for her fashion and her relationships. She is a style icon who was close friends with Karl Lagerfeld. She’s been married three times: first to Philippe Junot from 1978 to 1980; secondly to Italian business man Stefano Casiraghi from 1983 until he died in an accident in 1990, they had three kids; and she is currently married to Prince Ernst August of Hanover. They married in 1999 and have one child but are separated; Ernst August has been seen with a few other women but for some reason they don’t formally split. EA has struggled with alcohol addiction for a long time and has been put in a medically induced coma at least twice as a result of health issues.
Andrea Casiraghi, Tatiana Santo Domingo and their children Sasha, India and Maximilian (Max is not pictured above): Caroline’s oldest child, born to her and Stefano Casiraghi in 1984. He did a BA in visual arts and international politics and has worked at the Monegasque embassy to Qatar. He’s also been involved in lots of charities, including AMADE. I’m not really clear what his job is now; until the twins were born in 2014 people thought he might end up being Prince of Monaco some day so he didn’t seem to invest much in a career. He married Tatiana Santo Domingo in 2013. He and Tatiana met at school in France. She is from a wealthy Colombian family who made their money in brewing. She is a billionaire in her own right after inheriting over $1 billion from her grandfather Julio. She has her own fashion label, Muzungu Sisters, and has modelled for Dior and Emilia Wickstead with her kids. The couple have three children who are all in line to the throne: Sasha (Alexandre) born in 2012, India born in 2015 and Maximilian born in 2018. They live/lived in London
Charlotte Casiraghi, Dimitri Rassam and Charlotte’s children Raphael Elmaleh and Balthazar Rasam: Caroline and Stefano’s middle child, born in 1986. Charlotte’s professional life has been group around three areas: horse riding (she has been honorary president of the Global Champions Tour and has competed in show jumping); fashion (she’s been an ambassador for Gucci and YSL and launched her own magazine focusing on sustainability) and philosophy (she has a philosophy degree from the Sorbonne and has written books about it). She had her first son, Raphael, in 2013 with her boyfriend at the time, comedian Gad Elmaleh. They split in 2015 without marrying so Raphael is not in line to the throne. In 2018 she had another son, Balthazar, with Dimitri Rassam. Dimitri is a film producer whose mother Carole Bouquet is a very well known French actress and a friend of Caroline’s. They married in 2019.
Pierre Casiraghi, Beatrice Borromeo and their children Stefano and Francesco: Pierre is the youngest child of Stefano and Caroline, born in 1987. He has followed his father into business and is the majority shareholder of the construction firm founded by his father, Engeco. He’s also passionate about sailing. He recently sailed across the Atlantic with Greta Thunberg and her father so she could attend the UN Convention on Climate Change without flying. In 2015 he married Beatrice Borromeo. She is a member of the aristocratic Italian Borromeo family who have been very powerful in Italian society for at least 600 years. She is a journalist who has done extensive work on corruption and the mafia. Unlike many royals she’s an atheist, politically left wing, and has pissed off other royal houses - mainly the deposed Italian royal family - by exposing their corruption. They had son Stefano in 2017 and Francesco in 2018.
Princess Alexandra: She is the only child of Caroline and Prince Ernst August and is therefore a Princess of Hanover. She was born in 1999. She is a figure skater who represented Monaco in the European Youth Olympic Festival. She is dating Ben-Sylvester Strautmann who is a German basketball player. She lived a mostly private life but has started to become more public, appearing at fashion shows and recently doing her first magazine interview
Princess Stephanie: The youngest child of Rainier and Grace and Albert and Caroline’s little sister, born in 1965. She got a lot of headlines in the 1980s through her risque modelling, her music career, and her relationships (she dated Rob Lowe!) She married her bodyguard Daniel Ducruet in 1992 and they had two children before divorcing in 1996. In 1998 she had a third child with her Head of Security Jean Raymond Gottlieb. She is a patron of the annual circus festival in Monaco and earned more headline when she moved her kids to live with an elephant trainer she began dating in 2001. She married her second husband, acrobat Adans Lopez Peres, in 2003 and they divorced in 2004.
Louis and Marie Ducruet (and Pancake): Louis is the oldest child of Stephanie and Daniel Ducruet, born in 1992. He did a degree in Sports Management and worked as Assistant to the VP of AS Monaco football club. In 2020 he signed on as an advisor for Nottingham Forest football club. In 2019 he married Marie Chevallier who he met as a student. She manages events for Monte Carlo Casino. They have no children but do have an adorable dog, Pancake, who I love more than any other royal
Pauline Ducruet: Younger child of Stephanie and Daniel Ducruet, born in 1994. She studied at Parsons and did internships for Vogue and Louis Vuitton. She launched a gender neutral fashion line, Alter, in 2018. She was also a competitive diver who represented Monaco in the Summer Youth Olympics.
Camille Gottlieb: Only child of Stephanie and Jean Raymond, born in 1998. As her parents never married she is not in line to the throne. She works in PR for a club (which one I don’t know). She is also the founder of Be Safe Monaco which is an anti drink driving charity.

Myths about Poland and Poles
It’s time. Let me explain you some things. I hope this post will be a nice Polish culture lesson.
I asked some foreign friends what they think about Poland and Polish people, what had they thought before going there, how it was different at the end, etc. And also I added what I usually hear and drives me crazy 🤦
1. Temperature
Polish person: “It’s cold” ; Foreigner: “but you’re from Poland..”
And what? I’m Polish and I don’t feel cold? Aha. I think this is the most annoying answer which I hear a loooooot of times.
People have really bad image of Polish climate especially when they haven’t stayed there for longer time. So we have 4 seasons (+ 2 transitional ones).
early spring - March and April when the weather is going crazy. One day is snowing and -10⁰C, another day sunny and +15⁰C. You never know :D So if you go to Poland that time - be prepared for that, take different kind of clothes.
spring - May - first storms, during Juwenalia always rains, but the first week last years was really sunny and warm - perfect for Polish barbecue opening season :D
summer - may be hot as f.ck or colder and rainy. Many storms especially in August. Nights are much colder than days. But - surprise- temperature around 30⁰C is normal. And because the nights are colder you can sleep well - you won’t melt in your bed.
autumn - colder nights, leafs are brown, it may be really beautiful. More rainy days but still can be sunny.
early winter - October/November - crazy like early spring - may snow, may rain, may be sunny. You feel the winter in the air.
winter - yes it’s cold, but outside. Inside the buildings - it’s warm - surprise. For example I don’t have special pyjamas for winter nights because in my room is around 20⁰C. You go outside you put winter jacket and boots on. May be even -20⁰C (omg wow omg) but then you enter the house and t-shirt is enough. For example in Spain - I’m dying. Winter in Barcelona and in the flat for 3 months 12⁰C - IN THE FLAT. I opened the windows to put some warm air. In Valencia maybe not that drastic (probably it depends on the flat as well) but still I slept with 1 duvet, 2 blankets and the warmest pyjama ever xDDD So please, don’t tell that I’m from Poland and 12⁰C in the room should be perfect. Please.
So in Poland it’s like from minus extreme to plus extreme - variety! I think I like it, I just don’t like that the weather changes immediately. But the most important - inside the buildings - nooooo extreme. It’s pleasantly. So please don’t say to Poles that we should be used to the cold temperature. It’s personal not national thing, I love when is warm and I’m “more ok” with the summer in Valencia than Valencianos (they should be used to that hot no? XD exactly).
2. Music
“Omg la polaca knows reggaeton songs”
“OMG there is Polish reggaeton”
Ok. Music is a difficult topic. But yyy yes, in Poland they use to play reggaeton (fortunately or unfortunately). For example - in Warsaw and Krakow there are clubs: Teatro Cubano - where there is only reggaeton and some latino rhythms. So if you love to dance to this kind of music, don’t worry, you will find a perfect club for you.
I really like Polish music, especially now I think it’s really good one. But I like others as well, I have Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, even one German song in my playlists because - why not - variety! And reggaeton I like for the energy and dancing rhythms. Also I like it as a “culture”, for me it’s interesting and fascinating - I can talk about it hours! :D
3. The look
“Polish people are blond with blue eyes” XDDDD hehehehehehhehehehehehhehe
I’M NOT BLOND - first thing to note. The sun in Spain makes my hair lighter but still is not blond. In Poland there are different types of hair and skin. We are not so white. And blue eyes are not thaaaat common. Brown, green, blue, grey - but also not that brown like Spanish ;) AAAAAND - surprise - we can be tan! Wow! xD There are people who have really white skin and the sun changes it to red, but mostly Poles are tan in summer and even I would say that we love to be morenitos ;) What is funny for me (here we have the Spanish myth) that I’m more tan than many Spaniards. So let’s repair the myths: Poles may be tan in summer Spaniards are not tan at all (the Latinos yes - but also not always!).
4. Location
OK. It’s geographic lesson time.
What I heard once: “For me everything what is on the right from Germany is RUSSIA” omg. Where is my patience. omg. Please, think before saying shits like that. It hurts.
We are not that small in Europe. We have 7 neighbors, OWN language which is not Russian (it’s juuuust a liiiiittle bit similar, like some words). I can understand somehow Slovaks and Czechs but Russians - few words. AND IMPORTANT - we have Latin alphabet! Not Cyrillic like Russia. We are Slavic countries, our language is from Slavic family, Slavs love each other (in their way of love ;* ) but each of us is different and we exist, we are not Russia - note that in your head.
5. Religiousness
This is difficult topic. Yes, we are mostly Catholics and we don’t hide it. But not everybody. Many people are very religious - and I respect that. It’s kind of beauty, traditions and everything. It builds the culture. The problem appears when someone forces others to own rights. When religious is an argument in the politic world. And this I agree - in Poland we have a problem with that. But when you visit Poland don’t show your aversion to the religion. Respect it and be curious - then you can discover many nice things, interesting traditions and some kind of passion. I love to talk about our traditions and you can see it in my posts about Christmas and Easter.
6. Safety
This is more region problem than country problem. I mean, everywhere you go - you can meet bad people. In Kraków there were “bad times” but it was long time ago. When I was living there I felt really safe. Many times I came back alone and I’ve never had a strange/dangerous situation. And I always passed so many police during the night. So I think in big cities the government cares about the security.
Just don’t enter any places where you can meet pseudo-fans of football and don’t scream any football team name. This I see still as a problem in Poland. But I don’s say that going to the matches is a bad idea.
7. Food
This I’m writing thanks to the opinions of those who visited Poland and tried Polish cuisine. So what I heard, that some Erasmus were afraid about the food, that it may be a bad quality and not tasty, but theeeen - surprise! - Where are you from? - from Poland - oooo soplica!!!! (ok, this is not food) - żurek! - pancakes - placki ziemniaczane! - PIEROOOOOGI <3
So if you haven’t visited Poland yet, you haven't tried Polish cuisine - be prepared 😋😋😋
And you have me to ask before!
8. Language
Hehe Ok, it’s not the easiest language in the world. But it’s not an impossible one! So if you are planning to spend in Poland even only few days it’s nice to use: - dzień dobry - good morning - dziękuję - thank you - przepraszam - I’m sorry/excuse me - proszę - please/you’re welcome - do widzenia - goodbye - dobranoc - good night
Poles will appreciate a lot! We love when someone is trying to say something, and we know that it’s not easy.
And! I know some people who stayed to live in Poland and their Polish is - wow! So as you see, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE ;)
9. Character
Hmmm I heard that some of you were afraid that Poles won’t be friendly but then again surprise. Well, I think we are nice people xD We are for sure hospitable. There is always a bottle of vodka and some cookies for a casual visit.
English is not our native language, more and more people can speak it but still not all (well like in other countries). But we won’t leave you without helping you when you ask. Gesticulating, speaking slower and louder (because this changes everything xD) - there is always a way to communicate and express yourself.
So smile and don’t be afraid of us, especially me, I don’t bite! :D
Meme to sum up
10. Famous Poles
I think you may know many but even you don’t realize that. So let me remind you or introduce you Poles who have changed the world.
- Robert Lewandowski - football player in Bayern Monachium
- Jakub Błaszczykowski - was a football player in Borussia Dortmund
- Nicolaus Copernicus (Mikołaj Kopernik) - Heliocentrism, stopped the sun, moved the Earth ;)
- Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin - composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic era
- Marie Skłodowska Curie - (note: her first surname is Polish. And in many places they skip it -.-) - physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person and the only woman to win the Nobel prize twice, and the only person to win the Nobel Prize in two different scientific fields
- Tadeusz Kościuszko - military engineer, statesman, and military leader who became a national hero in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, and the United States.
- Pope John Paul II - Karol Wojtyła - the first non-Italian pope since the 16th-century, the second longest-serving pope in modern history, one of the most travelled world leaders in history, visiting 129 countries during his pontificate. Etc, etc. We are really proud of him and you can see that - everywhere there is his name, a looot of monuments etc.
- Lech Wałęsa - statesman, dissident, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who served as the first democratically-elected President of Poland.
- Andrzej Wajda - film and theater director. Recipient of an Honorary Oscar, the Palme d'Or, as well as Honorary Golden Lion and Honorary Golden Bear Awards.
- Roman Polański - film director, producer, writer, and actor. There was a quite big scandal with him - no comment.
- Robert Kubica - he became the first and only Polish driver to compete in Formula One.
- Anja Rubik - supermodel, activist, philanthropist, and businesswoman.
- Adam Małysz - former ski jumper and rally driver, one of the most successful athletes in the history of the sport.
- Wisława Szymborska - poet, essayist, translator and recipient of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Literature.
- Robert Korzeniowski - the best walker in the world, he won 4 gold medals at the Olympics (Atlanta, Sydney and Athens).
- Izabella Scorupco - actress, singer, and model. She is perhaps best known for having played Bond girl Natalya Simonova in the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye.
- Justyna (Justi, JB) Biel - Polish butterfly with Latin blood, author of this (and the other) blog. Known by you, one day by others as well.
and much much more!
11. Alcohol
Yes, I know, I shouldn’t forget about the most important - vodka. Yes we drink it, yes, on the parties, birthdays, etc. Yes, shots. We drink shot of vodka and then one/two/many sips of juice/coke/water/etc.
But come on, I don’t get why it horrifies you. Like vodka is 40%, rum, whisky, gin - all which you drink is also 40% and for me has even worse taste (especially gin, uff please don’t offer me that, never). Or tequila! Madre mía.
We don’t drink vodka with the dinner, like many people do with wine. Wine is also kind of alcohol I would like to remind.
And yes, we love beer a lot. And normal glass of beer is 0.5l - we don’t have smaller ones.
So, I hope... since now when I ask you to drink vodka on the before party - please, don’t be afraid and drink it with me, I’ll appreciate it!
Ok. I think that’s all. I hope that since now your image of Poles and Poland is much better - the correct one. Here you have everything in one picture xDD

Hearts don’t break around here - Part 2
A/N: So part number 3 it is. The gif bc of obvious reasons ;) hope you like it <3 Tell me if you wanna be tagged! Epilogue Part 1
Everything will be alright if you keep me next to you
It was a warm Thursday when Lou was walking home to Roman. Markus and her had been going easy in training today because both of them as well as their horses needed some rest. Therefore Lou had the time to walk home where Roman would wait with his parents.
Karin and Martin were visiting Roman for the weekend to be in the stadium for the game against Leverkusen. It had been planned for a longer time as far as she knew. They were coming now already because they couldn't attend the last home match of BVB this year. Still Lou was sure they were really curious about Roman's and her wedding plans. Right now they just knew Roman had proposed about two weeks ago and the wedding date was already set up for th 24th of July. It was soon, Lou knew it and so did Roman but it was the best opportunity they had this summer and they wanted to get married this summer. Both of them were fans of marrying in summer, even though they liked winter as well but the warm weather with lots of sun was the best for marrying and wedding pictures as well.
Lou was glad they both agreed on that. It was also easier to keep all the guests entertained when it was warm and sunny outside and they weren't forced to stay inside.
It was the morning after Roman had proposed when they talked about this and agreed it should happen this summer but very soon they realized there weren't many days it was possible. Roman insisted on them having their honeymoon right after because traditions were there to be kept. The latest he needed to be back for BVB was in the beginning of August but it all depended on how far he would come in the world cup. But Lou's tounaments were making it even harder because the German championship was in the end of June and the CHIO in Aachen was til the 22nd of July. That's why Lou would probably just have two days left to prepare the wedding once she was home. It also meant she wouldn't see Roman for about 70 days, roughly.
Roman said if he had time left before, he would go to Ibiza with his friends just like last year but if not, then not. It all depended on how far Switzerland would come in the world cup. Maybe he might get out pretty early which at least meant she wouldn't have to miss him for so long. Although Lou didn't believe they could win, she wanted them to because it meant more freetime for Roman with her. In August Lou would have enough time before the World Equestrian Games in the middle of September. She knew she would need time to rest inbetween. The next weeks or better months would be hell. Markus and her would train crazily and she tended to not give herself enough rest, she always has and with Roman not being home this could end up being a problem. Last year he was there to support her at least partly or Marie her former flatmate was but she would be alone at Roman's and her apartment. Markus wasn't any better than her so they would work each other close to a mental breakdown, Lou could predict this already.
Somewhere inbetween training and tournaments she was supposed to plan their wedding and she knew this was almost impossible, therefore Lou was already planning lots of it with Roman at the moment and told her family what they could decide without her. She wanted to give Martin and Karin the chance to also get involved in their wedding plans, there were even a few things were they needed to be included.
If Lou was thankful for one thing, it would be that she already had a dress. It was her worst fear to need to get one because she tended to being indecisive on outfits but thank god her aunt helped her so this fear couldn't even grow at all. As far as she knew Roman planned to buy a suit with his brother and his father when he was in Switzerland before the world cup.
He wasn't allowed to see her dress before the wedding and neither was she to see his suit. It was one of the traditions Lou actually liked and wanted to keep up to. She knew she would have to keep up to more and even some she didn't want to keep up. Roman was traditional about this and she knew the wedding meant the world to him so she would agree with it to make him happy. By now she slowly started to like the idea of a big wedding because she knew in the end it would be amazing but god damn it there were lots of things they needed to plan.
Eventually Louisa arrived in front of their appartment door, got her key out and opened the door. Within a second Lenny disappeared inside probably on his way to search for Cliff and the humans. It took Lou a little longer, she got out of her shoes, yawned and got herself a glass of water before looking for her fiance and his parents. She found them on the balcony. Some nuts as a snack were on the table, Karin was patting Roman's arm and Martin was drinking what Lou guessed was a smoothie, Lenny and Cliff were siting beside him and enjoying the pets he gave them.
“Good evening.” Lou greeted them a smile on her lips.
“There you are.” Karin said and Roman added “Finally.”
“We said seven o'clock and it's 6:48. I'm not late.” Lou replied while Karin got up to hug her.
“Just because you aren't late, doesn't mean I didn't miss you.”
Lou smiled at him over Karin's shoulder.
“I hope I don't smell that bad. If I do, I'm sorry.” Lou apologized to Karin.
“No, it's alright.” She let go of Lou and sat down again.
“Really? I feel like I'm just feeling like I smell like eau de cheval all over.”
“Eau de cheval?” Martin asked confusedly.
“Horse smell.” Roman and Lou said in unison.
They looked at each with a smile on their faces.
“Actually, it's probably more horse shit today. We cleaned six boxes this afternoon. If no one minds it, I want to take a shower at first.”
“If I get a hug a welcome hug as well before you leave.” Martin smiled at her.
“Yeah, sure. Sorry, I forgot that.”
Lou ran her fingers through her hair and laughed a shyly before taking a few steps towards Martin and leaning down to give him a hug. He held on tighter than she would have expected him but it felt good. It felt like hugging one of her uncles, safe, warm and full of wisdom.
“Okay, then gimme twenty or so.”
Lou turned around to leave and when she was at the door she heard Roman call her name.
“Lou?” “Yeah?” she turned her head around to look at him.
“We ordered food.” he stated.
“Fit and healthy?” Lou asked although she was sure he already knew the answer. “What else could it be?!” Karin replied smiling at her.
Okay, she was right. Even around Christmas she didn't see his parents really eating something unhealthy, it was the same thing about Roman. From time to time he liked some sweets, a bit chocolate, maybe some cookies or muffins if she baked for them but never much more. He was really good at controlling himself and by now she damn well knew where he got that from.
“The same as always?” Lou wanted to know from Roman.
“Yeah, without rice.”
“That's why I love you.”
She left then to get some new and nice clothes from the bed room. With them in her hand she went to the bathroom, locked the door and took a relaxing and long shower.
The doorbell rang just when she got out of the shower and while she put on her clothes Roman knocked on the door and told her they would be waiting for her in the dining room.
Louisa hurried because she didn't want to keep anyone waiting but she knew they really wouldn't dare to start eating without her.
Towel around her shoulders, hair still wet and without socks on she walked over to where they were waiting at the table.
“I'm sorry you had to wait. I told Roman you could start eating without you.” she explained sitting down next to Roman.
“Don't worry.” Roman reassured her while simultaneously caressing her thigh under the table.
“It was no problem to wait. We barely waited for three minutes maybe.” Martin smiled at her softly.
“And I'm not raising my boys not to eat until everyone is at the table just to ignore my own rules.” Karin added.
“Okay, thank you. Bon appetite.”
They started eating and fell quiet for at the beginning, sharing some glances here and there. Then Martin asked Roman about his training tomorrow and if he could visit. He was always eager to watch any training and learn from them. Maybe even find out how well his son was trained. She knew he used to train the youth team goalkeepers in Bern till last summer and though he never was a professional footballer he was more than interested in seeing trainings and matches. Often enough he visited alone to watch a BVB game in the stadium while Karin stayed at home in Münsingen.
Lou asked Karin about her work as a primary teacher and mostly just listened so she would be fast enough, nevertheless Lou finsihed last.
She looked at up to see Martin and Karin holding hands and looking at her unpatiently. It was time to talk about the important things, at least Karin and Martin didn't want to wait any longer.
“So Roman said he didn't want to talk with us about the wedding plans alone.” Karin started.
“And Karin can't wait to know all of it.” Martin added smiling at his wife.
“Just like my mum.” Lou laughed.
Roman had pulled her chair closer to his and took one of her hands into his.
“Roman is turning 28 this year. I think I waited long enough for a wedding.” she replied looking at her son.
Lou agreed with her by nodding. Roman looked at her trying to find out if she wanted to tell them or he should.
“Your parents, your turn.”
“Okay, I want to get married at our church in Münsingen and Louisa agreed with that.”
“The same church we got married in.” Martin stated.
“Exactly. I wanted to do it at home.”
He smiled and they smiled back. Lou didn't believe Karin's smile could get any bigger.
“But Roman is not the only one who wants to do it at home.” Karin looked at her confusedly “Karin, please don't look at me like that. The marriage ceremony will be in Münsingen at the church but my family wants to do it the way it has always been done, with my cousins, my sister and my parents and aunts. This means a big party at our place. It only takes about one hour and a half to drive there from Münsingen so we thought we have the ceremony in the morning around 11 and then meet up with everyone for the big party in the afternoon.” Lou explained closely watching his parents.
“Sounds really nice. I'm looking forward to finally meeting your parents!”
“So are they... oh, do you want to be a part of the wedding plan groupchat? Because then I'll add you. My mum probably needs embarassing pictures of Roman anyway.” “Sure, of course. It would be my pleasure. What are the pictures for?”
“I don't know for sure if they will do it but my sister and my cousins who got married all had to stand very embarassing and funny foto shows with lots of pictures. And I know how many, extremely embarrassing pictures my mum has and I hope you have as much of Roman because we should both get embarrassed.”
Lou laughed a bit, Roman caressed her cheek and Karin smiled at her.
“I think I will find some pictures.” she nodded at Lou.
“I hope so.” “Dad?” Roman asked probably because Martin has been quietly sitting there, looking like he was caught up in his own mind.
He looked over at Roman gesturing him to go on.
“What are you thinking about our plans? You haven't said anything about it.” Did Roman sound unsure or even concerned? Sure Martin hadn't said a thing yet but Lou never got the impression he was a talkative person. Usually he would share some stories but not all the time and it wasn't like he wanted to be included into a every conversation. If he had something to say, he would say it.
Lou looked over at Roman who was watching his father closely and he really seemed nervous, he held her hand a little too tight and he was biting his lip lightly.
“Römu, calm down. I like your wedding plans, I'm fine with them. I just can't believe you're actually marrying. It feels like yesterday when I needed to lift you on my shoulders so you could see everything going on. Soon you will have kids. I don't feel old enough to be a grandpa or be married to a grandma.” he explained at first smiling at Roman and then grinning provokingly at Karin.
Roman sighed in relief and Karin just stuck her tongue out to her husband.
“Okay, what about the dress? Any plans yet?” Karin turned her attention back to Louisa.
“I already got one.”
“You had time to go shopiing yet?” Karin seemed surprised. Lou felt Roman's glance on her and his hand squeezing hers telling her she wouldn't need to talk about it if she didn't want to. He was there and his parents were nice, they would respect her decision. Roman knew this was emotional for her. She already teared up when her aunt showed her the dress and it took him hours to calm her down later.
“No, not shopping. Apparently everyone knew about the proposal before me and when Roman told her about it, my aunt immediately searched for my mother's wedding dress. It is one of the few thing she kept because my mother wanted to keep it for exactly this purpose. Her daughter wearing it for her wedding. Usually I don't give damn about these things because my biological parents are dead and my mother will never know about this. But somehow the idea of fulfilling her wish is making me happy and it fits perfectly.”
“That's really touching.” Karin smiled softly and reached out to cup Lou's arm.
For a moment she thought she would need to cry now as well but Martin started with another topic so she could keep the tears inside. Nevertheless Roman was looking over at her a little worried.
“About everyone else knowing before, it was just a matter of time until you two would finally take this step.” he stated smiling gently as well.
“Sure, it's not like I didn't have a clue but I remember you” she pointed at Karin “saying something about taking pictures for the wedding when we were watching the game in March and everyone ignored that although I asked about and that was when I knew it would happen soon.” “Okay, caught.” Karin admitted “I think Roman told us only a few weeks before.” she looked over at Roman and then Martin.
“Well, maybe he told you then.” Martin said.
Karin was looking at him with her eyes widened.
“You told your dad earlier?” “Yeah, I asked Dad and Marco when we were home for christmas. I wanted to keep it secret for a while because I needed to find the right moment and we all know you suck at keeping secrets.” “I don't. I can't believe everyone knew before me!”
“Well, I didn't.” Lou added sharing a smile laugh with the rest.
“But you do suck at it. You already ruined at least three surprise parties...” Their talk went on for hours until it was time to got to bed but Lou knew one thing for sure now Roman's parents really loved her, unlike her Mum who was still struggling to accept Roman as her son-in-law. She hoped for the best and was sure they could do it.

CHAIR DESIGNS THAT TRANSFORMED THE WORLD OF DESIGN
Chairs – can you imagine residing with out one? One of the first matters we need the instant we set up our domestic is the furniture we are able to use to relaxation ourselves. Over time, the shape, form, materials, layout language – the entirety has evolved except for our primary want to relaxation in opposition to a surface. I’m sure that while you read this, maximum of you're seated on a chair! Now deliver that chair a long hard look and think about the years of layout practice that went into making the design what it's far today. Inspiring, right? The iconic chair designs showcased here have performed a element in our history – from reflecting the desires of the world, merging art and layout to even creating practices that transformed the manufacturing ideology, all people have to pay homage to these innovative designs.
Konstantin Grcic’s Chair _One “Chair_ONE is constructed much like a football: some of flat planes assembled at angles to every other, developing the three-d form. I assume my method became a mixture of naivety and bluntness. Given the threat to paintings with aluminum casting I notion that I must take it all the way. The greater we labored on the models the more we found out to recognize the structural logic behind what we have been doing. What commenced as a easy sketch, a series of cardboard fashions, prototypes, is now a real chair.” says the designer Konstantin Grcic. The German industrial clothier is thought for having a pared-down aesthetic together with his practical designs being characterized via geometric shapes and sudden angles.
Tejo Remy’s Rag Chair Tejo Remy works as a product, interior, and public space designer together with Rene Veenhuizen in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Where there may be abundance of materials, there's additionally an abundance of waste. Considering the entirety as material, Remy contains present information, circumstances, or determined goods into new situations, or simply put, repurposes the products to provide them a brand new life. The ideology behind this collection is elegantly simple, “make your very own world with what you stumble upon like Robinson Crusoë created his personal paradise on his island.” says Tejo.
Gaetano Pesce’s Pratt Chair In 1984, at a Pratt Institute laboratory in Brooklyn, Italian clothier Gaetano Pesce forged nine chairs the use of the equal mold. For each, he modified the resin formula ever so slightly. The first, jiggly as Jell-O, collapsed immediately on the floor. The second stood up, but, with one touch, toppled over. The third, fourth, fifth, and so on, grew increasingly sturdy, however the eighth and ninth were so inflexible that they were uncomfortable for sitting. The purpose for this experimentation? To prove that the difference between art and layout is simply a slight alteration within the chemical formulation. This narrative has been the center of his design practice for decades! Pesce explains, “A chair—you take a seat in it, and it’s comfortable. But the identical chair, when you convert the rigidity, it will become a sculpture. There is not any distinction. An architecture critic from Italy once made a book talking about how there's no difference between a spoon and the town. The spoon is small, the town is huge, but they're all objects. Architecture is simply an item with a big scale; an item that you could enter inside.”
Hans J. Wegner’s model GE 225, also known as the Flag Halyard Chair With The Flag Halyard Chair, Hans Wegner acknowledges the early modernists such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer, and proves that he too masters designs in chromium-plated steel pipes. An iconic and dramatic lounge chair, this engineered stainless steel frame comes with a seat and back made of plaited flag halyard (A ‘halyard’ is a line/rope that hoists or covers a sail.) However, the story behind the design is more than just a dialogue of art history. The shape of the chair’s seat was conceived during a family holiday in Århus, Denmark. The story goes that Wegner conceived this design while on the beach towards the end of the 1940s. He supposedly modeled the grid-like seat in a sand dune, presumably with some old rope that lay close to hand. The chair went into production in the 1950s and its unlikely combination of rope, painted and chrome-plated steel, sheepskin, and linen are still landmark in the world of furniture design.
Enzo Mari’s Box Chair The Box chair become designed by way of Enzo Mari in 1971 for Castelli. This self-assembly chair consisted of an injection-molded seat and a collapsible tubular metal body that came aside to healthy right into a box, for this reason the name! Enzo Mari is taken into consideration one among the most intellectually provocative Italian designers of the overdue twentieth century, recognized for products, furniture, and puzzles alike. Mari adhered strictly to rational layout – “constructed in a way that corresponds completely to the purpose or function”. Mari’s commitment to rationalism stood the test of time, gaining him work with giants like Muji and Thonet at the cease of the century while minimal, user-friendly design made a comeback.
Charles & Ray Eames DKR, also known as the Wire Chair Charles Eames famously said, “The function of the designer is that of a very good. Thoughtful host waiting for the desires of his guests. ” The couple that revolutionized American furniture design. Eames have created a universal reaction to what everyone needs from a chair. A simple, gracious shape that suits any frame and every place. It’s what makes the chair a conventional worthy of museum collections—and residing rooms, laundromats, lobbies, and cafés. With its unmistakable character. The Eames Wire Chair DKR isn't always just aesthetically fascinating however reminds us of the emergence within the Fifties of popular culture. A motion which in terms of furniture design added decorative elements back to the forefront. With its cool, vivid steel wire and “lascivious” bikini shaped padding the Wire Chair Bikini represents more than most different furniture gadgets the decadent popular culture of 1950s America. Speaking of the 50’s, I’m glad to see the ones red Formica tables disappear!
Adolf Loos Cafe’ Museum Chair This beautiful chair changed into designed by Adolf Loos in 1898 to supply that renowned Cafe Museum in Vienna. Its timeless charm comes from the subtle curves of its silhouette. Received with the signature steam-bent beechwood that creates stunning accents. At the pinnacle of the legs and inside the two parallel curves that grace the open backrest. The structure of the piece has an elliptical section that gives it lightness, making the design ageless.
Shiro Kuramata’s How High The Moon ‘How High The Moon’ by Shiro Kuramata is made of extending mesh. Thin sheets of that have been steel-cut and extruding. The chair has no interior frame or assist yet gives the define of a chair. Its transparent shape retains the form and silhouette of a traditional upholstere armchair. ‘Freeing from gravity’ was one of the key issues for Kuramata at some point of his entire career. Hence accelerating mesh was a perfect fabric for the designer. The chair appears mild and prone yet amply strong sufficient for use. This chair’s look is the end result of the overlapping hashing of the mesh sheets (it definitely does appear to buzz inside the air)
Ron Arad’s Big Heavy A collection from Big Easy, the steel chair design by way of Ron Arad in 1988 shows that a volume. As simple shape, can be translating, without compromising the design principles. Thru a reinterpretation of substances and production processes. The model acquire from a optimistic gesture showcases. The visible softness and fullness of the volumes, promising comfort. Big Easy explores the rotational molding and the usage of polyethylene as a fabric. It’s design language invites you to relaxation irrespective of the cloth use. Proving the dominance of the form over substances on this case.
Hans Coray’s Landi Chair Developed for the 1939 Swiss National Exhibition. The Landi Chair by way of Hans Coray occupies an crucial region in the history of twentieth-century design. This classical chair by way of Hans Coray set up. The new typology of a three-dimensionally molded seat shell on a separate base. The lightweight, stackable Landi Chair is strong and weather-resistant: its 91 holes permit water to flow. Technical innovation, systematic use of materials, minimalist forms. Understating beauty are the elements. That have made the Landi Chair into a conventional over the years. Which looks as sparkling and essential as ever. This is a quick starting to the history of considered one of the maximum iconic merchandise used globally. The humble chair. We will hold this collection to show off more of these designs. Percentage the know-how of how each chair is a description of the temper of the sector in their time. Read the full article

Time To Change
galaxy note 7 related- 1/2 The American Daddy He has a job that pays well, his own big White House, a beautiful wife, two smart-ass kids and even a labrador. But he isn't happy with his life. It's all the same everyday again. One day after a business trip he decides to make a stop at a road restaurant
- galaxy note 7 related- 2/2 The American daddy There he meets the prettiest and cutest waitress that he has ever seen. On that night he decides that his life has to change. He asks if she cares to dine with him and after a wonderful dinner and conversation he asks her if she wants to join him on a random roadtrip that starts right away if she says Yes.
BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ!
Christoph groaned as his alarm went off and it was the start of another day. His wife grumbled as well as she sat up and they looked at each other.
“Morning.” She mumbled.
“Morning.” He said sitting up and giving her a gentle kiss. He sighed as he got up and put a robe on and walked out of the room. He knocked on a door and opened it to reveal his thirteen-year old son’s messy room. “Henry get up.” He said firmly. The boy groaned and covered his head with his sheets. “Henry come on get up!” He said and yanked the covers off. It was their morning ritual in a way.
“Whatever dad.” Henry grumbled as he rubbed his eyes and sat up. Christoph went out and knocked on a second door.
“Go away!” His daughter protested as her head was covered in pillows.
“Mary darling.” He said sweetly as he came over to the bed and gently pulled the pillows off of her. She quickly snatched a pillow out of his hand and put it over her head again making him roll his eyes. “Don’t make me get your mother before her coffee.” He said firmly. She shot up with her messy dirty blonde hair and all. “Thank you.” He said before he left. His wife wasn’t in the room when he came back so he figured she was downstairs as he went to the bathroom and took a quick shower. He got dressed in a suite and pinched his nose in a forthcoming headache as he heard his children snapping at each other during breakfast.
“Duke!” They both shouted as the dog started to bark. He poked his head out into the kitchen and saw the dog happily wagging his tail and looking at his children’s food. Duke was a happy chocolate lab and when he saw Christoph he happily came over to him and sat on his back legs so his head could be scratched.
“Honey your toast is ready!” His wife called out. He quickly came into the kitchen and took his plate that his wife gave him. His children looked relatively more decent now, while his wife was in her own silk robe. She had her own little office and worked from home. He ate his toast quickly and made sure to rinse his plate off before he kissed his wife again, said bye to his kids, and was out the door. He grumbled as he got in the car and drove off to work.
Another boring day as usual.
Tomorrow he would leave early because of a business trip and he couldn’t wait to get away. His two teenage children were driving him crazy with their attitudes. All Henry wanted to do was smash things and play video games, which was why he was in football at the moment. Thank god his daughter didn’t want to be a cheerleader. He couldn’t stand gossip girls. Instead she talked about the cute guys in school she had crushes on which sent him fuming. All his wife did was talk about the news when he wanted to know about her day.
The only one that listened to him was that damn dog.
Xxxxxx
His business trip was to Seattle, Washington and so the flight was long and he was jet lagged by the time he got to his hotel room. He was going to be there for a week regardless of when the deal would be done. It was done easily in two days so he was glad to have no other business to worry about except the messages that came up on his computer. He decided to drive around for a bit and came across a diner so he decided to stop in for a bit for some coffee. He got a seat at the breakfast bar that was lined with stools when a lovely waitress came up to him.
“Hello, what can I get for you?” She smiled happily. He looked at her and he immediately couldn’t get enough of her bright smile.
“Ummm…I’d like come coffee please.” He answered.
“Ok, would you like regular or decaf?”
“Regular please.”
“Any crème or sugar?”
“Some sugar please.”
“Ok, I’ll be right back. My name is Elisa and if you need anything else just wave.” She said happily before she left. He watched her leave and her hair was down in lovely brown waves. He had to admit his uniform showed off her figure very nicely. She came back with her coffee a few minutes later with a bottle filled with sugar.
“Thank you.” He said politely.
“You’re welcome. Would you like anything to eat?” She asked poking at the menu at the side of him.
“Oh not right now thank you.” He answered quickly.
“Got a date? You look spiffy in that suite.” She grinned making him smirk.
“Oh thanks. No, I don’t have a date. Just made a business deal.” He explained.
“Oooh, here on business. Planning on doing any sight-seeing? You should see the mountains they’re beautiful.” She said quickly.
“I’m not sure. I just plan on spending my days in my hotel room sleeping for the most part.” He chuckled.
“Ooohh…I’m sorry you’re out of town.” She blushed.
“Way out of town. I live in the D.C. area.” He explained.
“Oh my goodness, well welcome to Seattle.” She smiled.
“Thank you my dear.” He smiled back in kind. She had to move away to help other patrons and he was done with his cup by the time she came back.
“Would you like a refill?” She said holding up the pitcher.
“Oh yes please.” He said pushing his cup forward. She poured it for him and he put his sugar in and stirred it. “When do you get off?” He asked.
“Oh not until late, I don’t get out until nine.” She answered. It was a twenty-four hour diner after all.
“Would you like to have dinner with me?” He blurted out. Her eyes went wide for a moment and she wasn’t sure what to say.
“Yes.” She finally got out.
“Great…I’ll be back at nine.” He winked. He took a small sip of his coffee and handed her a hundred dollar bill. “Keep the change.” He said before he left.
Xxxxxxx
He couldn’t believe what he was doing, but at the same time he did. He needed to change things up a little bit with his life. He was so bored with everything right now. He wanted a little adventure in his life instead of waking up going to work and going back to bed, day in and day out. Tonight would be a start…if it was only for a moment. He was on time and he found Elisa waiting by his seat this morning. She had changed into a blouse and jeans and he thought it looked cute. He made sure to change out of his suite into a button down shirt and pants.
“You know I didn’t get your name.” She blushed coming up to him.
“Oh shit…I’m sorry. My name is Christoph.” He said shaking her hand and she giggled nervously. “Shall we?” He said pointing to a booth. They sat down and looked at each other for a moment unsure of what to say. “So how long have you been working here?” He asked trying to get the conversation started.
About four years.” She answered. “I’m trying to save some money in order to move to the city. I want to get my own apartment.” She added.
“Who doesn’t?” He chuckled. The waiter came by and they ordered drinks before they resumed talking again. “How old are you if I may ask?”
“Twenty-five.”
“Oh my you look much younger.” He gasped.
“I know. I look like I’m twelve.” She smirked. “How old are you?” She asked playfully.
“Fifty.”
“No way!” She gasped with her mouth wide open.
“Yes…why?” He said puzzled.
“You look like….forty!” She gasped and he smirked.
“Even with all this grey hair.” He chuckled.
“Grey hair? It’s only around the edges. Everything else is dirty blonde.” She giggled.
“Oh thank you.” They had to pause when their drinks came and they needed a few minutes to look at the menu. “Do you recommend anything?”
“French onion soup here is awesome. I love it. I eat it when I can get it. It’s my favorite soup.” She said eagerly. He only nodded looking over the menu. “We have it in a bowl or a cup. Get the cup and if you don’t like it I’ll finish it.” She winked.
“Aaaaahhh…very sneaky.” He said playfully. “Oooh, I think I’ll get a cranberry salad.” He said looking it over.
“Good choice. I make that for myself all the time.” She said.
“What are you getting?”
“I don’t know. I’m thinking breakfast food.” She said.
“Really?”
“Yeah, not thinking of much else.” She shrugged. They ordered their food and waited for a few moments. “So what made you decided to ask me to dinner?”
“I wanted to try something different.” He said quietly. “I’m married and bored.” He sighed. “I have two teenage kids that are ridiculously spoiled, which is partly my fault as well as my wife’s. I’ve got a dog named Duke and a nice house.”
“So what’s the problem?” She asked quietly.
“I want a change. Be spontaneous…do something!” He explained.
“Yeah I get it a routine. Same thing day in and day out.” She nodded in understanding. Their soup came and Christoph flinched at how hot it was. “Here let me show you a trick I learned.” She said. She took his cup and moved the cheese and added some ice from her drink into the cup.
“Ooooo clever.” He grinned.
“What’s that mean?”
“Clever in German.”
“Oooohh…are you German?”
“I was born in Austira. I have dual citizenship with both Austria and German.”
“Your accent is lovely.” She blushed as she blew on her soup.
“Oh thank you my dear.” He smiled back as they started to eat. “I also know French.” He said.
“Really?”
“That’s so cool. I always wanted to know a second language. I took Spanish all through high school and I’m ashamed to say I don’t remember blush.” She frowned.
“It takes time.” He said in agreement. They giggled at each other as they playfully made slurping noises while trying to be quiet. She had to admit she was having fun with him. Maybe she could have his number and text him after he went home.
It’s not like they would do anything.
They finished their soup and dinner came in a few minutes later. They exchanged bites of their food and she insisted they share a hot fudge sundae.
“You want the cherry?”
“No thank you.”
“Ok then.” She said happily as she ate it. They scooped up the whipped crème and then slowly made their way down the bowl until it was empty. He quickly took the check and paid and they sat down in silence. Neither one of them wanted to night to be over.
“Let’s get out of here.” He suddenly spoke up.
“ And go where?”
“On a road trip to anywhere if you say yes.”
She looked at him unsure of what to say, but she could tell that he was sincere. Elisa had never really done anything special in her life as of yet. She was done with college, unsure of what to do next…but maybe this was a sign.
“Yes.”

A dozen scientists and their curious hobbies
ALFRED LÓPEZ FEBRUARY 06, 2016
There are many occasions when, depending on what type of professional it is, we have stereotyped certain people and we assign them (perhaps involuntarily) certain cliches. One of these groups is that of scientists, who are often considered serious types, dressed in a white coat, put in a laboratory all day and always thinking about their research and discoveries.
But really scientists are not like that (or at least most of them) and throughout history, there have been a handful who have been famous and famous figures of science but who have also known how to have a great time thanks to their curious hobbies.
Below you have a dozen examples (you will see that they are all male scientists, but don't worry, I am preparing the next post with the curious hobbies of female scientists ).
Albert Einstein, between the violin and women
Undoubtedly, the father's best-known hobby of relativity theory was music and his passion for playing the violin. From a very young age, he was very attracted to the violin, taking private lessons and once throwing a chair against his teacher, because he did not see that he did not advance as he wanted.
But there is another hobby that marked the life of the genius of German origin: his weakness for women. He liked them all and whenever he had the opportunity he tried to seduce some. Its characteristic somewhat scruffy image, coupled with its great intellect made it give off a great attraction to women, a fact that the physicist knew how to take advantage of on countless occasions.
He had romances with a large number of women, including practically all the secretaries of Kaiser Wilhelm II. This hobby led him to divorce Mileva, his first wife.
An anecdotal fact about Einstein, before he married a second time, was when he was strongly attracted to Ilse, the daughter of his fiancé Elsa. The young woman, who was 22 at the time, wrote a note to a friend in which she told him:
"Yesterday the question suddenly arose about who Albert should marry, whether it was me or my mom. "
John von Neumann with his wife Clara
John von Neumann, the king of the party
Known for being one of the most brilliant mathematicians of the modern era, von Neumann was a great lover of parties and social gatherings. His image as a serious man and dressed in his elegant gray suits were far from the funniest face he offered to his guests.
He was a great enthusiast of ancient and medieval history, as well as everything related to the Roman Empire. It was frequent to see him do a fun exercise with his wife Clara, in which one of his guests chose a page at random from the extensive library that the mathematician owned and he was able to recite the text from the indicated line by heart.
Many were the weeks in which two parties were held in the house that the von Neumann couple owned in Princeton, where John was in his sauce being a perfect host and entertaining those present with a good number of green or Jewish jokes.
Edwin Hubble with his fellow college basketball team in 1909
Edwin Hubble, a prominent amateur athlete
Hubble has been one of the most important astronomers of the 20th century and is considered the father of observational cosmology. From an early age, he had always been a good student and he combined his studies with the reading of adventure novels by Jules Verne and H. Rider Haggard.
But his true passion during his college years was sports. Receiving the occasional special mention in disciplines as disparate as athletics, basketball or boxing, and it was in the latter that he stood out the most, so much so that he was proposed to be a professional and face the then world heavyweight champion, Jack Johnson,
But Hubble knew of its potential for astronomy and decided to reject the offer and accept the important Rhodes scholarship that he was awarded to study at Oxford. Who knows if, if his decision had been reversed, now the books would speak of Edwin Hubble as a major boxer, world heavyweight champion and astronomy would have lost his important and decisive contributions.
A bodybuilder named Santiago Ramón y Cajal
Santiago Ramón y Cajal and bodybuilding
The multiple photographs of an adult Ramón y Cajal show him as a thin man, somewhat skinny and somewhat stooped, due to the posture acquired after spending a long time under a microscope.
The winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1906, he had spent part of his youth surrounded by fights and bets with his spree comrades. On one occasion, while still a student, he lost a pulse with a friend. This hurt his pride and he decided to go to train in a gym. He agreed to teach the owner anatomy classes in exchange for physical training.
His progress in the gym, added to the strong fondness he took for bodybuilding was such that he came to describe himself as:
"Back width, with monstrous pecs, my chest circumference exceeded 112 centimeters, and when walking showed that inelegance and rhythmic contour characteristic of the strong or Hercules de Feria"
Harald Bohr on the Danish Olympic Football Team
Niels and Harald Bohr, passion for balls and gunmen
Brothers Niels and Harald Bohr shared a passion in their native Denmark: soccer. The two players, as students, on the Akademisk Boldklub team in Copenhagen. Niels did it as a goalkeeper and Harald was a scorer, the latter participating in the 1908 Olympics representing the Danish team and with which he won the silver medal.
The day Harald defended his doctoral thesis in the auditorium, more soccer fans than mathematicians were found.
For his part, it is said that the physicist and Nobel Prize winner, Niels Bohr was a great enthusiast of western films. He frequently interrupted his work in the library to go watch a cowboy film. He used to do it accompanied by a couple of students, with whom he talked about the complicated plots found in these films.
Bohr had developed a theory in which he explained "why even though the villain always draws first, the hero is faster and manages to kill him. " And he managed to demonstrate it in one of his classes in which they simulated the typical duels of the old west and, with two toy revolvers and their corresponding cartridge cases, he played the role of hero, being much faster in drawing and shooting than all his students.
Illustration of the William and Caroline Herschel telescope
William Herschel, a virtuoso musician
This is a curious case in which we find that the hobby became the profession, while the profession became the hobby. I am referring to the German astronomer and discoverer of the planet Uranus William Herschel, who discovered his passion for music rather than for heaven.
Herschel had an important musical training, being, along with his father and brother, a member of the band of the Army Infantry Guards Regiment. His bad experience at the Battle of Hastenbeck led him to move to England, where he continued his musical studies and worked as a teacher.
Later he would go on to direct the orchestra in Bath, in which his sister Caroline was a soprano. In their spare time, they began to observe the sky and the stars, becoming increasingly fond of it. One day he bought a book entitled "Astronomy" that would completely change his life.
William and his sister built their own telescope with which they observed the sky, making great contributions to astronomy. Until he dedicated himself professionally to astronomy, he was combining this hobby with his work as a conductor, taking advantage of the breaks of the intermission to go out and observe the sky.
Eusapia Paladino spiritist session held at Camille Flammarion's house
Scientists passionate about parapsychology and the paranormal
Charles Robert Richet, who in 1913 would receive the Nobel Prize in Medicine, was an enthusiastic and passionate lover of parapsychology, at the time known as " met a psychic ", making important contributions to this field and eventually chairing the Society for Psychical Research (Society for Psychic Research). He brought metapsychics to life as a purported science that studied all phenomena that find no normal explanation.
William Crookes, inventor of a good number of gadgets, which would facilitate the work of countless scientists, among which are the radiometer and the Crookes tube (for the study of the properties of cathode rays) was an ardent supporter and defender of the spiritism and one of the pioneers in the investigation of psychic phenomena, especially in the areas of materialization and mediumship
Another passionate about pseudosciences was the French astronomer Camille Flammarion who felt a deep admiration for everything related to spiritualist doctrine, which led him to have a deep and great friendship with Allan Kardec, considered to be the father of spiritualism and with, the supposed medium, Eusapia Paladino, holding spiritualist sessions in her own home.
Feynman in a topless bar
Unbridled passion for women
This post began with Albert Einstein's fondness for the violin and women and I dedicate the last part of this entry to these, due to the large number of scientists who have had the greatest of their hobbies.
Erwin Schrödinger had a weakness for all women, including his wife Anne Marie, and this corresponded to her love for him, allowing her to have as many lovers as she wanted, being complicit in her love affairs and taking care of 'dispatching' the mistress on duty when her husband got tired.
Much has been speculated about the identity of the mistress who was in a hotel next to Schrödinger at the time when he deduced his famous formula.
Richard Feynman, one of the most important American physicists of the 20th century, had a great weakness for going to bars where there were topless ladies. The atmosphere of the place was ideal to find inspiration and after watching an entertaining coming and going of the young waitresses without bra, Feynman wrote reflections and equations on the napkins of the premises.
In the book on biographical anecdotes "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" (Are you kidding me, Mr. Feynman?) He tells how he went to hostess rooms while his wife was sick in the hospital. But this was not the only hobby of the physicist since he had an amazing ability to open safes.
During his stay in Los Alamos, during the Manhattan project, he used to open filing cabinets and safes in the dependencies to entertain himself in his moments of boredom, which caused him more than one problem.

Jurgen Klopp thinks Arsenal are a really good side capable of making the next step, but only if they sort out their defensive organisation.

One month with Lou and Roman- Poland, self-doubt and a tournament
A/N: okay this is my favourite part so far, i just love it. you gotta stand not so much roman in this chapter though but i really like it
tell me if you wanna be tagged
@frecklednando @buerkihoe @the-mary-ann @marco-reus-dimples @carlaimberlain
Masterlist
Wednesday was quite a rush. She was picked up by Markus just past five in the morning so she was still tired and didn't talk while they drove to the train station. Markus and his girlfriend, Justine were chatting a bit but no chance she would join the conversation. Although Lou had no problem with getting up early she hated talking to people in the early morning.
They said goodbye to Justine at the train station before entering the train just before six o'clock. It wasn't very crowded but they still searched for an empty space where they could sit without being interrupted for the whole 2 hour drive. Markus couldn't keep quiet at all he was just too damn excited but Lou couldn't be mad at him. It was his first big tournament and he just deserved this so much. She was just as excited as him a few years ago so she just went along with it talking about how cool it will be.
They had breakfast at the train station in some cafe before her uncle picked them up there to go to the airport. By now Lou was up fresh and dandy talking as much as she could. Being the chef trainer of their national team her uncle tried his best to reassure Markus he would do just fine and had no need to worry. He did anyway, of course he did, Lou understood him. Her uncle, Paul, also tried to give her some positive feedback but Lou just brushed it off, saying she was used to this enough not to worry. She knew that he knew she worried anyway but didn't comment on it any more, knowing Lou her whole life he knew when to shut up. She was keeping her worries quiet in contrast to Markus but once they arrived at the airport, meeting up with Steffi, Sandra, Alex and Steffi's mum, Sarah, the worries faded. Lou had been knowing everyone at least half a lifetime so they were always ready to talk about everything and anything while Markus found into the conversation pretty fast.
They checked in and were in the plane in what felt like no time, their conversation just left them so busy time passed by fast.
Another three hours later they arrived at the hotel where they were staying for the tournament. It was quite fancy and only about fifteen minutes away from the riding location. Lou smiled immediately after looking around the entry hall.
“MALIN!”, she screamed before literally running to her long known but not so much seen friend.
“LOUISA!”, the dark haired girl smiled at her before they hugged as tight as too people could hug without hurting each other.
“It's been so long, I missed you so much you have absolutely no idea.” Lou had tears in her eyes while she looked at Malin's face. She knew Malin would be here but the two girls grew really close seven years ago in both their first international tournament when they both surprised everyone .
“Me too, Louisa, me too. But girl what have you done to your poor skin?” “Let's just not talk about this, please. I have so much more interesting stuff to tell you.”, Lou stated and she was right.
The girls barely separated for the whole day, her uncle even arranged them being in one room together and Lou was crying again them because this was so much like 2010 she just felt like nothing could go wrong any more or better as long as her and Malin got to spend time with each other she had already won who even cared about the title. Lou only left Malin's side when the German team was going to the barn together, saying hello to their horses again and doing a last round of trying. She was happy to see Luci again and he was as well. They didn't like being separated although they got more used to it in the last years because the barn in Dortmund was more than hundred meters away from Lou's room.
Second best thing this day was Lou completely failing in the last training because whenever everything went wrong before she would do amazing in the tournament itself.
After dinner Malin and her went to their room, unpacked their suitcases and cuddled up under the covers. Just when Malin decided to take a shower, Roman called. Lou talked to him until Malin was back, not much had happened so far so they didn't have much to talk about.
“Goodnight, pet Cliff for me and tell him I love him and I love you.”, Lou said before ending the call.
“So you are seriously fucking that Roman football goalkeeper guy?”, Malin asked, one eyebrow raised at Lou.
“I have no reason to defend myself. I can fuck whoever I want!”, Lou explained looking unbelieving at Malin.
“I was just surprised by footballer. Didn't think you would be a wag.” “Shut up! I am not his wag whore. We love each other and he's such a good person, you have no idea! Plus you should see him shirtless. Wait, Imma ask him for a pic.”
Lou shook her head, threw a pillow at her friend who was combing her hair in front of the bed, but she was still laughing. Malin tried to threw the pillow back at Lou and missed so the only response from Lou was sticking her tongue out while she was texting.
“It's not like I care he is a footballer but I thought you would care.”, Malin explained further while lying down next to Lou again, her head resting against Lou's shoulder.
“Roman, proved me and all my stereotypes wrong, okay maybe not all of them but Malin I think I seriously love that guy with all my heart and I don't wanna loose him ever.”, Lou told her honestly.
“God, that guy really ruined you.” They both laughed at it.
“Kinda, but look at his body!”
Lou pointed at a picture on her phone which showed Roman half naked on the couch with his million dollar smile on his face and Cliff on his lap. He didn't even asked when Lou said she needed a pic of him half naked, he just went along with it.
“Okay, I would pay to sleep with him.”, Malin admitting a devilish grin on her face.
“Malin, shut up! That's my boyfriend, you can't say that!”, Lou screamed so loud the people in the next room probably still could hear her and she also hit her friend with the pillow again.
“I was just telling the truth!”, Malin defended herself.
Lou was just done with her but she still loved Malin and enjoyed the time with her.
The next day went by almost boring, it was raining the whole day so they didn't go out watching the others rather hiding inside with Lou playing the piano and singing or playing games, until it was Malin's turn to ride the dressage and Lou wanted to watch her friend who did great. Lou was really proud of her and not really glad she didn't need to ride that day but had time to freak out.
Malin feel asleep early in the evening but Lou was going crazy for hours, her skin itching and her mind just thinking about everything that could go wrong the next day. She decided to go out of her room to call Roman and he picked up. They talked for over two hours until Lou finally felt more relaxed and was just so tired she almost fell asleep on the hotel floor. It was way past one when she went to bed and couldn't sleep more than five hours before being woken up by her alarm.
She was so nervous she just sat and watched everyone else eat breakfast and then went to the entry hall to play piano again. It just calmed her down and kept her thoughts far away from the competition. But although she didn't feel like she could do this she was sitting on Lucifer a few hours later to ride the dressage as the last one. Lou took a last breath and went into auto-pilot for the whole ride and this worked. She was doing so well, she was still in the top ten for the next day. But sadly Steffi disqualified after falling down from her horse but she didn't injured herself.
This night was better, Lou could sleep cuddled close to her friend and felt prepared for the next day. She spent the whole morning by the piano anyway and wasn't even bothered by the reporters who were filming her. The endurance competition went even better so Lou would be in the top 3 of the last day, only Sandra and Alex being better than her and she knew she was the best show jumper of her team.
Therefore she spent the afternoon relaxed, watching Roman's football match with Markus and Malin in their room. Neither Markus nor she went out of the hotel more than they needed to the last days because the sun was burning and there was some pollen in the air they both reacted allergic to.
The last day came and Lou was as relaxed as she could be because she could do that without question. That's why she smiled and rode through the show jumping competition with her head held high and when she passed Sandra and Alex on the horses while riding off of the riding location she knew the looks on their faces could only mean one thing.

The Week in Women’s Football: Jill Ellis departs USWNT; Pensacola wins WPSL; France clinch U19 Euros;
This week, we review U.S.-Republic of Ireland game, which was the first Victory Tour match in Pasadena, California, while Jill Ellis recently announced that she is stepping down as head coach after the 5 friendly Victory Tour matches across the U.S. We also look at the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) 2019 Season and Finals and the recent UEFA U-19 Women’s Championships.
U.S. Defeats the Republic of Ireland in first Victory Tour match in Pasadena, California while Jill Ellis announces her Retirement as National Team Coach
The U.S. Women’s National Team attracted a crowd of 37,040 to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California—site of the team’s iconic World Cup Final win over China 2-1 on penalty kicks in 1999 in front of over 90,000 people—in their first game Stateside after winning the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France on August 3rd.The Americans won 3-0 with all of their goals coming in the first half from Tobin Heath, Lindsey Horan (both Portland Thorns) and Carli Lloyd (Sky Blue FC). The Americans overwhelmed the Irish with 80% ball possession percentage, a 16-2 advantage in corner kicks and 30 shots to only 2 for the visitors (9-0 for shots on goal). Alyssa Naeher (Chicago Red Stars) in the first half and Ashlyn Harris (Orlando Pride) in the second half shared the shutout in goal.
The Victory Tour of five matches will exclusively feature the 23 players who helped the USA win the World Cup. Other matches scheduled are on August 29 in Philadelphia and September 3 in St. Paul Minnesota—both against Portugal—and October 3 in Charlotte, North Carolina and October 6 in Chicago (at Soldier Field)—both against the Korea Republic.
2019 U.S. WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM VICTORY TOUR ROSTER (CAPS/GOALS) GOALKEEPERS (3): Adrianna Franch (Portland Thorns FC; 1/0), Ashlyn Harris (Orlando Pride; 21/0), Alyssa Naeher (Chicago Red Stars; 53/0)

Ireland brought a relatively inexperienced side with 14 players having less than 20 caps. The most experienced were in the back, with SC Sand (GER) defender Diane Caldwell (70 caps), Arsenal defender Louise Quinn (73 caps) and Liverpool defender Niamh Fahey (84 caps). Quinn is the top scorer on the roster with 11 international goals. Forward Katie McCabe, who also plays for Arsenal, has six career goals. No other player has more than one. Missing from the side were regulars Denise O’Sullivan (North Carolina Courage) and Megan Campbell (Manchester City and ex-Florida State University) who had club commitments and were not released.
Ireland is preparing for qualifying for the 2021 UEFA Women’s Euros. Ireland starts qualifiers against Montenegro in September and is in UEFA Qualifying Group I, along with Germany, Greece, Montenegro and Ukraine.
Former Republic of Ireland Coach Colin Bell—who was a high profile signing in early 2017 after taking Frankfurt to a UEFA Women’s Champions League title in 2015—left his position in late June when he was named assistant coach of Huddersfield Town, who were relegated from the Premier League last season and will play in the Championship (2nd Division), with Tom O’Connor moving up from assistant to interim head coach. Bell said that he wanted to stay but did not receive clarity on his position and program direction from the federation. Todd’s successor seems to be set with former German international Maren Meinert—who led Germany to the UEFA U-19 Finals last month and has won 3 U-19 European titles and 2 U-20 Women’s World Cup in her time coaching the German youth side—set to be appointed; she is very well respected in the game.

Jill Ellis Steps Down as U.S. Coach
The U.S.-Republic of Ireland game in Southern California was overshadowed somewhat by the fact that Jill Ellis announced on July 30 that she was resigning as head coach following the Victory Tour, after five-plus years in charge. With the win over Ireland she now has a 103 wins and trails only 1999 World Cup winning coach Tony DiCicco (105) as the all-time winningest coach in U.S. women’s soccer history. While head coach, Ellis has won eight tournaments: the 2015 Algarve Cup, the 2015 Women’s World Cup, the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, the 2016 SheBelieves Cup, the 2018 SheBelieves Cup, the 2018 Tournament of Nations, the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Ellis explained her decision in a press conference: “When I accepted the head coaching position this was the timeframe I envisioned. The timing is right to move on and the program is positioned to remain at the pinnacle of women’s soccer….Change is something I have always embraced in my life and for me and my family this is the right moment.” Ellis (52) will make appearances for the US Soccer Federation for at least a year. U.S. Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro said. “The US Soccer Federation and the sport in general owes Jill a debt of gratitude. Jill was always extremely passionate about this team, analytical, tremendously focused and not afraid to make tough decisions while giving her players the freedom to play to their strengths. She helped raise the bar for women’s soccer in the USA and the world and given the history of this program, the level of success she achieved is even more remarkable.”
Where does Jill Ellis go next is a primary question? It will be interesting to see and she could be with another national team side for 2023 (perhaps Australia as their coach Ante Milicic will step aside after the Olympic Games—if they qualify—to coach a new men’s A-League expansion side in Southwestern Sydney—Macarthur F.C.). As for her replacement, there will be no shortage of applicants. Longtime U.S. assistant coach Tony Gustavsson—who was brought from his native Sweden by Pia Sundhage in 2012, is quite respected by the players and was a finalist for the job when Ellis took over in 2014, has already also left the team. He could be a serious challenger for the position and reports in the Swedish media state that he already has interest from teams on four continents. He certainly will end up with a nice position somewhere, but could it be in the States after working there for almost 9 years?
WPSL Sees Pensacola FC Win the 2019 Championship Final
The WPSL completed its 22nd season and bills itself as the largest women’s league in the world, this year with 119 teams; the WPSL had 16 conferences this season, with 4 of them split into 2 divisions. WPSL rosters feature elite collegiate, post-collegiate, international and standout prep student-athletes and has well-known U.S. international league alumni such as Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe and Brandi Chastain, who once graced the league’s teams.
In the semifinals on July 20 held in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Pensacola FC defeated the Seattle Sounders Women 3-2 in a repeat of last season’s Championship Game which Seattle won. Pensacola has been dominant throughout the 2019 season, as the only remaining undefeated team in the league after the match. Pensacola used a 14th minute goal by Briana Morris (University of South Alabama) past Seattle goalkeeper Isabel Jones (who had 5 shutouts last season at sophomore in 2018 at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington). Pensacola’s Nigerian international Uchenna Kanu (Southeastern Fire, who was on her country’s Women’s World Cup side this summer and played for their 2014 U-20 and U-17 Women’s World Cup teams)scored in the 43rd minute to give the Florida side a 2-0 lead at half time. Seattle replied in the 64th minute when Summer Yates (University of Washington) scored on a corner kick. Mollie Rouse (an English youth international who plays at the University of Louisville) scored a third for Pensacola FC but Seattle narrowed the gap in the 81st minute on an Alexandra Hobbs (Pepperdine University in California)goal in the run of play. Goalkeeper Kathryn Scheele (who played at the University of Colorado and Colorado College) helped to secure the win for Pensacola in the tense final minutes.
Note: Pensacola FC center back Hannah Godfrey, who scored seven goals for Pensacola this season, has signed with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the North London club’s first season in the FA Women’s Super League. A Thornton-Cleveleys, England native, Godfrey also played four seasons at the University of South Alabama. Godfrey (22) is Pensacola’s 20th professional signing (17 international, three NWSL) since the club joined the league in 2012. Pensacola FC coach David Kemp said: “We are thrilled that Hannah has realized her dream of signing a pro contract back home in England. She gave us four years of leadership, hard work and fun. She’s a joy to be around, and we look forward to watching this next chapter of her career.”
Seattle had a star-caliber squad from around the country; Kaylee Dao (who finished her four year career at the University of Oklahoma in 2018) led the team with 6 goals while Kimberly Hazlet (who will be a senior this season at the University of Portland) had 7 assists and Madeline Nielsen (who will be a junior at the University of Minnesota) had 17 saves and a 1.33 GAA. Besides Gonzaga University’s Jones, a third goalkeeper was Laurel Ivory (a junior at the University of Virginia who has played for the U.S. at the U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels) who had 8 saves and a 1.20 GAA. Melina Ayres (Melbourne Victory) came from the W-League for the summer.
In the other semifinal, the Utah Royals FC Reserves came out on top of Motor City FC after winning a thrilling game that came down to penalty kicks. Utah’s lone goal in the run of play came in the fourth minute when Amber Marshall (Utah State University junior this fall) scored. In the 27th minute, Motor City tied the game when Yujie Zhao (Florida State University/China U-20 national team) dribbled deep into the box and forced a Royals’ own goal off Danika Serassio (Brigham Young University). Royals’ goalkeeper Kaytlin Bradley (Weber State University in Utah) proved up to the task in penalties, saving from Alexa Spaanstra (University of Virginia/U.S. U-17 Women’s World Cup team member in 2016) during Motor City’s second penalty attempt, which putting Utah in the driver’s seat for the remainder of the spot kicks. On the next Motor City penalty kick, Bradley made a decisive move to the left and forced Zhao to pull her attempt wide of the goal. With the Royals firmly in control, forward Hailey North (ex-University of Utah, who now is a personal trainer for female soccer players—naming it Train Like A Girl) roofed her kick into the net, earning Utah a spot in the 2019 WPSL final.
Royals coach, former U.S. national team defender Amy LePeilbet (who played for the U.S. National Team, at Arizona State University and in WPS and WPSL and has been a Utah Royal assistant coach since 2018), gave up only 4 goals in 10 regular season games, while Motor City FC surrendered only 3. Le Peilbet said after the game: “I was so happy for the team when Hailey put that final penalty away,” LePeilbet said. “This team has so much heart, and they fought so hard today. I’m just so incredibly proud of them.”
Pensacola FC then won the WPSL Championship with a goal in the 118th minute to defeat Utah Royals FC Reserves 4-3. Briana Morris scored twice including the game winner in extra time. Mollie Rouse fed Morris on the winning goal as she dribbled into the Utah penalty area). Ana Paula Silva Santos (from Brazil, she has played at NAII William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi) also scored for the winners. Pensacola FC won its club’s second WPSL championship – the first since its 2012 title when it was the Gulf Coast Texans. Pensacola has qualified for three-consecutive WPSL Championship matches, finishing runner-up in 2017 and 2018. The Florida club finished the 2019 season undefeated at 12-0-0.
For the season, Sydney Schultz of the California Storm had 17 goals to lead the league while Mollie Rouse (Pensacola FC) had 8 assists and tied with teammate Ana Paula Silva Santos, Kimberly Hazlett of Seattle and Cameron Tucker of Utah and for points. Alyssa Poarch of the CAFC (Coastal Atlantic Football Club Ospreys, who play in Frederica, Delaware and were competing in their first season in the league, had 37 points to pip Schultz of the California Storm (35)
The quarterfinal results were:
East Motor City FC 4 Chicago Red Stars Reserves 2.
South Pensacola FC 3 Charlotte Lady Eagles 1
Central Utah Royals FC Reserves 2 Fortuna Tulsa 1
West Seattle Sounders Women 4 California Storm 0
France Defeats Germany for 2019 UEFA Women’s U-19 Title
France defeated Germany 2-1 for their fifth title in a record tenth UEFA U-19 final on July 28 in Scotland. The other two semifinalists—the Netherlands and Spain—also advanced to the 2020 U-20 Women’s World Cup, expected to be held in Nigeria, while India and Republic of Korea also bid for the hosting rights, with India hosting the 2020 U-17 Women’s World Cup. Melvine Malard (Olympique Lyon, who played in last summer’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup) topped the tournament goal scorers with 4.France previously won the title in 2003, 2010, 2013 and 2016. France is now within one of German’s record six Women’s U18/WU19 titles, having reached a record tenth final, one ahead of Germany (who were also runners-up in the 1999 four-team round-robin).Justine Lerond (Metz), the France goalkeeper who was outstanding in the match, said: “I’m really, really happy—after weeks and weeks of preparation. I went to three EUROs where we didn’t get to go to the end, now we have done it. It was a really tough game but we all played together, that’s how we won.”
France’s Vicki Becho is the youngest-ever winner, and was the first 15-year-old to score in the U-19 finals since Ada Hegerberg in 2011 (the youngest scorer is Jordan Nobbs in 2008). The tournament was held in Scotland, in Glasgow, Paisley, Stirling and Perth, with Scotland, Norway, Belgium and England also participating. Maren Meinert, the Germany coach, said: “Of course we are very disappointed about the result, but not about the way we played today because I thought it was a great game and a great final for the fans. But in the end you need to win the game and that’s what is still there in our minds and why we are so disappointed. But overall in the tournament I thought we did very well and developed very well in the last two years.” Meinert, as reported above, is expected to be named as the full women’s national team head coach of the Republic of Ireland.
