Maison Martin Margiela black skirt with lining pulled out of the pockets — fall 2003 Not shown on the runway (or perhaps underneath that one long coat) but here's a small photodump of FW2003 detail references. As you can see the season was infused by glimpses of lining showing. Whether it was by creating fake tears or by adding axcessive fabric as if it was ripped due to fitting. A fairly understated collection except for the glorious confetti tabi boots. As you might've seen in our stories, we sold some Margiela teddybear boots with a nail heel a while ago. In the same collection of crazy Margiela shoes, we present: Tabi Cowboy boots with stiletto heel in gold (!!!) Yes you read that right, they took cowboy boots, put tabi toes on it and, why not, a stiletto heel. And if that wasn't enough, the Margiela team said: 'well lets make them in gold.' How about this for a sunday surprise? Original Maison Martin Margiela tabi boots from the 1990's. The design was modeled after antique Japanese workmen's shoes and these types of shoes are often still worn by performers during traditional festivals in South-East Asia. Secret: we still have more tabi boots in different executions waiting for you. All original but different 90's models. Patience please. It will be rewarded. They stand apart from current designs by their round toes (newer models have square toes) and buttery soft leather. More comfortable and reminiscent of the Japanese fabric tabis. Goodie goodie another pair of archival tabis! This pair comes from the fall 1996 collection. (Our Millenial mind still can not comprehend this was 26 years ago!😭) Model's legs and tights were painted, as well as the tabi boots. One of three seasons (spring and fall 1995 too) for which these style of tabi pumps were created. Not cut open enough so that they would be seen as regular pumps. But also not closed up enough to be seen as ankle boots. Martin really succeeded at making the Uncanny Valley of shoes, in tabi version. If you're a small size 38 or a 37, you're in luck! They are stamped as a size 38 but check the measurements because the archival tabis run smaller. Before you go running to the website: these are not archive tabis! I thought so when I bought them but they are from spring 2013. But that was pre-Galliano, so still designed by the staff! And I really wish they continued as a collective instead of appointing a head designer. This would have fit so much more with Martin's vision. But that's what you get when you have external investors. Also a reason I am introducing/selling more archival Belgian designers such as Wim Neels, Angelo Figus, Lieve Van Gorp, Ingrid Van De Wiele... even though their career was short, they didn't need to compromise their vision to please investors. That's why their collections have the purity of their own aesthetic. Was a bit tired of always the same pictures so just casually threw* our new tabis in a box. *put down extremely gently The plastics are drycleaner covers we keep and reuse to store delicate fabrics. And the metal hangers are brought back to the cleaners. Only wooden and wide plastic hangers here! The new tabi boots, yes also unworn and new, have creamy beige color and the brown wooden heel. A newer version, post-Martin. But without the ugly newer square toe. There, we said it. Somehow Facebook and Instagram hate Margiela and refuse to sinc any of his items. So you'll have to go to the site yourself. But that's the sacrifice you make for tabi boots.
