okay so I have no idea how you're gonna make this work but A TAICHIHAYA KISS TO PROVE A POINT PLEEEAAASE!

Ooooh this was so fun! Hopefully I filled the prompt okay, and I managed to sneak in a taichihaya week prompt (poem 48/poems) too! In my head this takes place some time after season 3 of the anime, after they've had a reconciliation, but still haven't talked about... things 👀 Thanks for the ask, margaret!

“You have to contest cards, Chihaya,” Taichi grumbled, clearing their play area and shuffling the cards to deal them out again. “Contested cards can be the difference between Queen and runner-up.” 

It was a common argument between them, and this time was no different. Chihaya pouted, chewing on her lip in a way that made his hands tremble as he pretended not to notice. 

“Harada-sensei says—” 

“I know what Harada-sensei says,” he answered calmly. It infuriated her more when he not only didn’t let her speak, but also kept himself as level as possible. It was fun, riling her up like they were children again. It was easy, too. Instead of focusing on why teasing her was making his heart pound, he counted cards out for both of them to begin again. 

She didn’t say anything more, but he knew she was stewing on his point. He could feel the energy swirling around her, like when she was working on a difficult math problem. 

When he had it all dealt out and they’d both arranged their boards, he started the tape player and their game began. For a while there was nothing between them but the drone of the reader and the slapping of hands on tatami. Although inside Taichi’s head was as loud as ever. Running through poems, analyzing Chihaya’s game, pushing away thoughts of physical closeness. The usual. 

It was on the waves that beat against the rocks poem that their hands touched the card on his side at the same time. Chihaya froze. He waited as long as he dared, his hand next to hers, before he slid the card over to his stack. Chihaya was still frozen it seemed, staring at the spot the card had been. He settled into his stance for the next poem, but she stopped the player. 

“That’s mine,” she nearly whispered. 

“It was on my side.” 

“I know, but…” Her eyes gradually traveled up to meet his, round and glassy and determined as ever. “That one’s mine.” 

“Chihaya, I know I said to dispute cards, but—” 

“I can prove it. My pinkie touched the card first.” 

He sighed. Insufferable, really. He took the card off his stack and placed it back where it had been so she could demonstrate. She slid her left hand over, mimicking the motion she’d used, and he had to admit it looked lower than his right-handed swipe had been. She grabbed his hand and adjusted it so it was where it was when he’d landed. 

“See?” she asked, although since his heartbeat was drumming in his ears he didn’t necessarily hear as much as see her say the word. It took everything he had not to reach over and close his fingers around hers. 

Instead he looked, really looked, at their hand placement. Her pinkie was just barely under his thumb. He could admit that, give up the card gracefully, continue their game. Or… he could prove his original point.  

“And how are you sure that’s how we landed originally? It’s on my side, we touched at the same time, it’s my card.” 

He started to pull the card out from under her fingers again, but she pressed her hand down flat, holding it—and consequently him—still. 

“It’s my card,” she said, with a ferocity that wasn’t entirely surprising, at least not for Chihaya, but there was an underlying current of feeling he didn’t understand. 

“Take it from me, then,” he dared her, pressing his hand down just as hard as hers. “If it’s really your card.” 

“It…” She huffed as she tried to slip it out of his grip without dislodging her hand. “It is my card.” 

“Hmm… Doesn’t look that way.” He was taunting her, he knew, but enjoying it all the same. She leaned over the board, trying to get leverage over him, but he held fast. Even if her ponytail did swish in his face and waft the scent of her shampoo along with it. 

It surprised him that she was even fighting him this long on it. It wasn’t like it was her Chihayafuru card. He couldn’t see the significance to her. 

“Taichi!” she finally huffed, pouting again. She sat in front of him  in the space between their cards and blew a sweaty strand of hair out of her face. “Let go.” 

“No.” 

He knew she was used to his refusals and rebuttals, but for some reason that one stumped her. She blinked back at him, stunned into an uncharacteristic silence. 

“No?” 

“No. I’m not letting go.” 

She chewed on her lip as she pouted which was terribly distracting. He didn’t really mean to, but before he knew it he was leaning towards her, his heart pounding, his throat dry. When he was barely an inch away, he smirked, intending only to throw her off balance enough to slip the card out from under her fingers. 

She didn’t move. It hardly even seemed like she was breathing. Her eyes were wide again and a blush had risen to her cheeks. Too late he realized that the last time they’d been this close he’d touched his lips to hers, featherlight, and walked away. 

Her eyes darted down to his lips. Apparently she hadn’t forgotten, either. 

Before he could even process what was happening, she tipped forward and met his lips shyly. It was enough, though, to make his blood rush in his ears and his hand reacted on instinct, cupping her cheek to hold her to him. 

She didn’t break eye contact, but he heard the subtle sound of the card sliding across the tatami.

here's a few words to avoid possible confusion: i'm merging my old blog, @margarethelstone with this one. there are many reasons for that, none really worth mentioning. about the changes that will happen here from now on:

i will not stop posting art. there, the most important part. i won't be posting less, either. the only thing that will change will be proportions because...

…starting today (hopefully!) i will also be posting my writing! as some of my projects are a package deal, expect to be getting both at once every now and then!

my fandoms/interests remain unchanged, meaning it will still mostly be a mixture of miraculous, chihayafuru & and some occasional other fandoms from time to time. that applies for both writing and art!

that's all you need to know i think! thank you for being here and i hope you will still feel comfortable in the slightly changed space of this renewed blog.

I'm kinda new still to online art posting but I try to keep heavy referenced pictures and redraws even in my own style to pictures available to the public, my own photos and art I own hence why I asked for permission first.

Technically my version looks very different but still seeing it's supposed to be redraw I played it safe, I don't wanna step over any lines when it comes to reference etiquette , just trying to keep everyone happy.

(It is sooooooooo much easier to draw straight from photos and real life that is why my anime drawings are still poor Dx )

good day to you, my dear followers! it's lovely to have you here, so please read what i have to say as well :)

as the title says, i have decided to migrate in between my blogs again, this time back to my main. i thought about it a lot - the reason behind the change is that i don't really write that much for mlb these days and though i do make art for it, it's posted on @helstoneart-2 and not here anyway. at the same time, i still want to be a part of the community and hopefully, write a bit more after all!

J: What’s your favorite fanfic trope?  Have you written it?

Apparently I'm a sucker for royalty AUs lol every time I see one I'm like subscribed instantly and wiggling in my seat and just like "ooooh this'll be good" lol I haven't written one yet! I had one planned a long time ago for a Marichat May that was a thief AU with royalty thrown in there, but I don't think it's one I'll ever have time to write 👀

K:  Do you have a guilty pleasures in fic (reading or writing)?

Honestly I don't really think so? lol I read a little of everything and I like what I like and I don't really feel guilty about liking any of it 😅

T: Any fanfic tropes you can’t stand?

Again, not really 😅 lol there are things I avoid for trigger reasons, and characterizations I might disagree with here and there, but I haven't come across anything I can't stand for story reasons.

W: What is your favorite pairing to write?  Favorite pairing to read?

I can’t believe I’m doing this...

THE STORIES

1. Which is the fic you’re most proud of?

There’s a few:

For emotion, depth and just overall improvement in writing would be: To forgive, to let go and to “I’m sorry.”

For world building and writing for so many characters: Sorry for party rocking

But the one I’m most proud of in terms of progression is: Thaw Slowly

Even though none of them are actually complete...

2. Which is your least favourite?

Everything I wrote before I started, To forgive, to let go and to “I’m sorry.”

3. If you were to recommend one to read to your mum?

None. I can’t even stand being the same room with her after five minutes, let alone allowing her to read something so personal to me.

4. Which one would you consider re-writing?

Definitely all of my earlier works before I started writing; To forgive, to let go and to “I’m sorry.”

5. Biggest regret in a fic? My first one - A chance - everything about it I just cringe looking at it now, but mostly just not ever finishing them.

6. Biggest success with a fic?

Thaw Slowly beyond a doubt. The amount of support and appraisal from the artworks to the vids, to find it mentioned with the Hiccelsa community is certainly amazing and touching. This story will definitely be my legacy (if I actually finish the damn thing.)

7. Your fic with the most notes?

I don’t post stories on tumblr but the most reviews I’ve received on fanfiction.net is once again, Thaw Slowly.

8. Your fic with the least notes?

Hidden girl - I used Hilary Duff lyrics and I’m too ashamed to ever glance upon it again.

9. What do you think makes a good fic? Tips?

Argh jeez, I’m the worst person to come to for advice, but I guess just do your research when it comes down to it. Read lots of other works and learn your character’s, well, characteristics and try to keep them in that character. If they do something that’s way outside of their personality, you’ve got to have a good reason to do so, otherwise it’s going to look fake and over the top. Also, spelling is a big one for me and not having all the chapter bunched up into one paragraph.

10. When is the next update on your works?

Thaw Slowly - I’m not too sure to be honest since I’ll be leaving for Japan in seven weeks and got a ton of training at work, however, I’ll try to update before I go.

11. Number of followers before you started writing and after?

No idea...

THE WRITER

1. Which character do you love writing for?

Depends on the current fandom/ship I’m involved in: first was Asuka Langley Sohryu, then Rukia Kuchiki, Queen Elsa - I guess I have a thing for strong female characters?

2. Which character do you dislike writing for? I guess any character whom I can’t quite a grasp on: after all, nothing’s worst than trying to portray a character and not doing them justice.

3. What’s your favorite AU to write for?

I’m not overly fussed on AU but I guess modern for canon based during historical eras and vice-versa if that makes sense.

4. What’s your least favorite AU to write for?

I would have to say Harry Potter universe - too extensive and way over done.

5. What do you hope never gets requested?

Anything involving my NOTP.

6. What do you wish was requested more?

More Hiccelsa. Yeah, I love that crack-canon ship with all my heart.

7. Thoughts on writing Smut/POC/Curvy/MxM/FxF?

Smut? I’ve written a bit in the past but nothing very graphic. Believe it or not, you can have a good romantic story without your OTP needing to get it on every freakin’ chapter! One, it’s unrealistic and two, it gets boring. I grew up in a time where smut wasn’t a common occurence in every fic, but when it happened it was erotic and well-worth the wait.

POC & Curvy are neither of which I can relate to so I’d probably do a terrible job if I tried.

Same sex? I’ve never written one before, but that wouldn’t stop me if I found the right inspiration. For me, love is love, regardless.

8. Which account is your biggest inspiration in writing?

@margarethelstone for her constant support (whining) and helping me throughout my TS journey. Without her, I could not have continued as far as I have now. So thank you.

9. How long have you been a fic writer for?

I had been writing another story a few years prior in a little notebook and never saw the light of day. However, my first official story was published October 23rd, 2004 so well over 13 years now. Damn, I didn’t think I’d still be doing this...

10. Any upcoming secret works?

Pretty much everything in my Story folder which I’ve never bother to complete or upload, however, there is a particular story I want to write but it won’t be for another 1-2 years at least.

Hmm... I've been working on my description lately because I feel like it's a weak point in my writing... so I'm not really sure right now, but I'm gonna go with people, particularly faces.

🐾 worst nightmare to describe?

This might be a surprise based on my writing, but I do not like describing kisses 😅 if I could always just write "they smushed their lips together and it was happy-making" and have it have the effect I need it to have in that moment, I totally would.

💛 – if you could, what's one fictional world from a book you'd travel to right now?

1. What was the first fic you ever wrote?

Soooooo about that 😅 the first one I wrote was also the first one I ever deleted off my Ao3 page because I noticed I was uncomfortable getting comments on it and I kinda wished I never wrote it lol but the title was "Carnage" and it was an MCD fic and the reason it exists at all is because there's a scene in Guardians of the Galaxy that my brain took and mashed with Chat Noir and said 'what if.' But even though it's not posted anymore, it did get me posting in the first place, and for that I'm pretty grateful 😊

6. Who are your favorite characters to write for currently?

Right now it's definitely Luka and Marinette from Miraculous Ladybug 😁

5. Have you had a writer you admire comment on your fic? What was that like?

Okay so I still remember when @quickspinner commented on my first little lukanette piece. I think it was my third fanfic ever and I was so so nervous about getting the dynamic right and when I saw that the writer who got me into lukanette had commented on it I just felt a rush of acceptance that's really stuck with me 💖

8. Talk about any friends/connections you've made as a fic writer

The first fandom friend I made was @margarethelstone-2. We were in a small Miraculous Ladybug discord server and she sent out a bid for betas. I think we've been talking ever since!

And of course everyone in the LBSC group is absolutely amazing and encouraging 💖 I'm shy by nature and it's hard for me to connect sometimes, but with this lovely group of people I feel like I've found my place.

9. What inspired you to write your first fic?

This is kind of funny actually lol I'd watched Guardians of the Galaxy to go to sleep the night before. You know that scene near the end where Rocket is holding one of Groot's twigs after he sacrificed himself and Drax walks up and pets him between the ears to comfort him?

So I woke up with the image of Chat Noir holding Ladybug's earrings and Carapace walks up and does that. I couldn't shake the image, so later that day I wrote and posted my first ever fanfiction which... just so happened to be MCD 😅

(That's also the only fic I've ever deleted 😅)

if i started posting more than just art...

no, wait, it's serious question here! you see, i'm actually about to move my activity from my old main blog (@margarethelstone) to a new one, and i realised i have two ways of doing it:

create a side blog to this blog and keep my writing and reblogs there while keeping the artblog separated

rename helstoneart-2 and turn it into a main blog, with writing, art and all else kept in one place

the second option really just came to me today, as obvious at it may seem, so i'm still hesitant. on one hand, it would be easier, having one blog for all, especially as some projects (Our Sleeves, chihayafuru miraculous au) consist of both writing and art. also, i have my 113 followers (❤) here, and since the content of the artblog overlaps with that of writing, it wouldn't be that much of a change

BUT

i'm still anxious! because i kinda like the idea of having a separate artblog! i am also fond of having it 'clean', and only containing original content! and...

...i guess i'm kinda afraid of you guys losing interest too, since you're here for art in the first place. right?

so please, please be so kind and let me know how you feel about those changes! would you follow the blog still if there was other content here too? would that be too much? maybe you've done something similar in the past and can share some knowledge about what works and what doesn't, or have things you regret doing?

tldr; please let me know if art is all you're here for. going on anon is fine, being painfully honest is fine, too. i'm doing research, not looking for affirmations.
