There's so many things you can do with toxic sasha, but what about toxic marcanne 🤔
Toxic marcaneeeee my beloved, their problems are so seemingly subtle but surprisingly destructive, I love them. I love Marcy's refusal to consciously hurt Anne always being at odds with her struggle to notice when she's overstepping. I love how far she can go without even realizing, how narrow her tunnel vision can be, how hard it is to break her out of it. If Anne weren't as strong as she is in S2, if she didn't love herself enough to pay attention and push back, Marcy would just keep hurting her over and over again and make apparently reasonable excuses that continued to chip at Anne's self-worth until she no longer trusted herself to make any decisions without Marcy's approval first. Dumber than a bag of rocks, huh?
This is actually something I want to explore in my RiAAU! Because Anne and Marcy have been friends since around age 8, when they met in Newtopia, and have been penpals ever since, and Anne trusts Marcy so much, but then they meet again at around age 14-15 and Marcy is apparently becoming besties with Sasha, Anne's arch-nemesis, expecting Anne to put aside everything Sasha has ever done and support her freak plan to oppose Newtopia (when the frogs of Frog Valley were pretty much on Newtopia's side so far) and then participate in a dubiously legal political three-person marriage with them to help legitimize Sasha's lil plan and Anne really doesn't like this, she hates the idea of marrying Sasha, and even if the idea of marrying Marcy is a lot more attractive, she doesn't want it like this, and definitely not at age 15. But Marcy keeps insisting and insisting and twisting it to make it look like the most logical thing to do when really, she's the one benefitting the most at Anne AND Sasha's expense. Long story short, Anne ends up agreeing to this marriage, and it's bad, it fucks them up, all three of them. And for years Marcy keeps herding Anne around like a dog, clearly outlining every path to take and every decision to make, and Anne, who was raised by Hop Pop and grew up learning to listen to authority and trust other people know better than her, can only accept that Marcy is just... smarter than her. It's silly to think Anne could contradict her.
