2024 roundup!
Honestly, I don't know how to start this one. Before looking into my diary for specifics, I know this year was one of the most emotionally difficult years for me in recent memory. And yet, I still just want to take this moment to look back and reflect
cw depression symptoms, eating issues, medical talk, death talk
I started off this year getting more tattoos, and that was fun. I still love them, just taking a small break until I get my next one
I also got to check out Igloofest, which was so enjoyable that I plan on going at least one or two days again this year. A few years ago I started going to these music festivals, and something about them just really hits me. Something about being able to wander around and hang out somewhere quieter or less crowded or grab some food at any point makes it a very "relaxing" party atmosphere.
Then my first temporary layoff occurred pretty early in the year, because the industry still, to this day, is still being affected by the hollywood strikes last year. People are still struggling to find stable jobs because of it, on top of things like AI starting to replace artists in front of my very eyes. it was pretty difficult for me, as everyone else, as you could imagine.
Also at around the same time, my parents lost a good friend of theirs suddenly from undiagnosed cancer. While I didn't know him very well personally, that was immediately also just... awful. Just tragic. And in the background, a few other people I care about were also struggling with cancer themselves.
I spent a lot of my "break" in the worst depressive period I think Ive ever gone through in my life. Not diagnosed, just when thinking about how hard it was to do anything other than sleep all day. I lost so much weight from being unable to eat without getting sick, if I had any appetite. things were very bad.
The fandom and all of my other friends also helped a lot. I had a massive output of fanart this year, with most of it being drawn during the first layoff. People being so kind and supportive and joining in the Coffinshipping fun with me helped keep me sane, and gave me something to look forward to every day.
Once the weather finally started getting warmer up here, around March, I also started taking myself out on little daily walks around my neighborhood, and checked out local museums. That also helped stave away the extreme depressive thoughts.
I did manage to do something I've always wanted to do, and that was fly to Manitoba to hang out with my online friend of 10 years, Jen of riseofthefallenone fame. Finally getting to hug her irl and watch movies and go to museums for about a week was definitely one of the highlights of this year. And while it didn't cure my slump, she can attest that I was still struggling heavily with food and stuff, it really helped a lot.
Late spring, my mental health started stabilizing enough that I was able to start doing things I really love again, like go to the movies and draw even more and write fics, and most importantly- eat like normal.
I was able to see the total Solar Eclipse with friends. Anyone else who was able to witness it probably understands when I say that was another highlight of my year. It was just breathtaking, and a little bucketlist win that I really needed while I was still unsure if I was going to have a job to return to at all.
By June, I was still just being wracked with stress waiting for my job to call me back as I watched my emergency rent funds fizzle away. I spent a lot of quiet time outside enjoying the nice weather, just trying to keep my mind off of things.
I drew more. Wrote more fics. Got more tattoos.
Then, my job DID call me back. and I was so happy!
kind of!
because the MOMENT my job called me back, I had to take a sick day to get an abscess removed from my leg. yeah, I know. gross. but holy fuck, that shit hurt like a motherfucker. I felt like everything was finally turning around, and then I was in immense physical pain every day before and after recovery.
also, the medication was killing me.
the 10 days I was on antibiotics was torture. after spending most of the year so far struggling to eat, the side effect of my medication was really bad nausea, so that set me back again
and changing the bandage alone every day hurt so fucking much until that shit finally healed up after a month
Then the political debates started. and that started affecting me subtly in the background.
Also every global thing, pretty much.
Then my grandfather's cancer was starting to get worse.
Meanwhile, finally back at work, I was working on something that was so stressful that the extent of how stressed out I was is only really hitting me now in hindsight
One fun thing: I was able to make that Strahm cosplay that I really wanted to, and I had a lot of fun at Montreal comic con! I am going to describe that as a brief reprieve from everything else that was going on.
Shortly after, with a fuck ton of surrounding dramas that I don't care to describe in detail because it's too personal, my grandfather passed away.
He's the first person I've lost in my family that really affected me like this. It's been difficult.
I continued working. Summer came and went. I attended Piknic Electronik and Ilesoniq, which were fun. Everything else from that time just feels like a weird blur. I was really feeling so overwhelmed by everything by that point, a lot of days were just spent crying and trying to feel normal. like someone else was living this year, not me.
I leaned on my friends a lot this year. They really helped me feel sane, kept my mind off of everything terrible, and generally just made me feel happy when I wasn't.
I'm reading through my diary to recall events this year, and nearly every entry by this point had a breakdown. I wasn't doing well. Work was stressing me out, the world was stressing me out, the internet was stressing me out, loneliness was stressing me out, it was overwhelming.
I finally managed to find a therapist. Even just knowing therapy was on the horizon and I was finally going to get some help was tremendous for me finding some optimism again
Therapy also came at the perfect time, because I was at the "crying every day" point of depressive/anxiety symptoms again and my second temp layoff of the year was approaching on the horizon, and I really didn't want it to be as bad as last time.
Also come Fall, I discovered hockey. I finally went to my first game after living in Canada for 7 years, and as you may have noticed, I got hooked. I've been going to games and watching them on tv/online and I've been having a genuinely great time with it!
Things still felt tense though. The election was coming up. We were all feeling it.
Therapy was needed.
The election. You know what happened. I was called back into work the next day after the results came in. Same day, I was told I'd have to learn french in order to continue living in quebec soon. I have a learning disorder, language was always difficult for me, and this was suddenly dropped onto my lap with no warning. I had to be a functioning worker after that.
Then, my parents' neighborhood lit on fire.
Yes I'm serious. Not even a full week after all that, a record breaking forest fire raged for 2 weeks in my home town and my parents had to evacuate. There was a fear for a while that they were going to lose everything. Their brand new house that they only just moved into last year.
Between all of those things all at once, you could kiss my appetite and ability to keep food down goodbye again.
But thanks to the help of what might have been hundreds of firefighters from both in and outside of town and state, every single home was saved.
Ever since, things have smoothed out a bit. Work stabilized. I have been given news that our studio should have enough work to keep everyone employed well into next year. Finally, there's a light at the end of the Hollywood strike tunnel. We're not completely free of industry stress... there's still AI and quebec tax credit drama thats threatening to ruin my life and everything I've worked for... but I'm TRYING to not catastrophize things before they happen. (And I'm begging people... please be more forgiving to sequels and remakes that make you seeth and froth with rage. They're giving human artists much needed jobs. Please.. stand behind us right now.)
A lovely string of movies came out that I was able to enjoy!
Red One, Sonic 3, and Long Distance (well, not available in the US yet) all came out in quick succession, and I was able to see those with loved ones!
When movies I work on come out, it feels like my gallery exhibit opening after months or even years of anticipation. Finally! I get to show everyone my art! Sonic 3 especially was super special. I got to see that not only with excited, cheering adult fans, but I also got to see it with my parents and happy, giggling children. Both experiences were special for different reasons.
This was probably one of the hardest christmases I've ever spent home. With Grandpa gone, it was the first christmas where it felt like something crucial was missing.
With cancer increasingly present in even more elderly family members, I'm anticipating another extremely difficult year ahead of me. Knowing christmas is only going to get more emotional and unrecognizable for the rest of my life has been very, very hard for me to compartmentalize
I'm going to continue leaning on my friends and family. I'm definitely going to be leaning on my therapist more.
I don't really have much in terms of a resolution this year. I just want to feel like myself and not someone desperately trying to feel like myself

April 4, 2023:
Nothing beats than going to a night club for a girls night out with your best friend. CHARIZ. HAHAHAHAHA.
Highlight ng buong March ko.
We talked about going to a club, I think college pa kami nung napag usapan namin, na when we turn 18 we should probably get that off of our checklist/bucketlist. But we never got around it until recently when we're talking about our unfulfilled goals and dreams or plans. Etc. (Including wearing a mermaid tail to fulfill our mermaid childhood dreams. Well, We'll get to that.)
We were still young back then, broke and still studying. No freedom. I guess. But as we turned 27, almost 30 (AHEM. STILL YOUNG LOOKING.) We decided, that you know, bago man lang kami mag 30 maranasan namin pumunta sa club or bar. Mag order ng drinks. Tapos sumayaw sayaw lang. HAHAHAHA.
So I went to my best friend's place around 6 PM last Friday. We ate dinner. And then we started na mag ayos around 9 PM. Nagkukwentuhan lang habang nagme-make up and nag aayos.
We paid for the entrance. And ayun. Nag enjoy na kami. Kaso nag cut off pala sila ng food. Di kami naka order ng kahit anong food or kahit pulutan man lang hahahahaha.
Corned beef, sinangag and egg.

12.31.23
123123- 8pm.
it's been months since last update ko dito.
So far, i think this is the best year for me.
I am writing this because gusto ko lang i-update buhay ko.
January, I got my iphone 12 pro. Hahaha di man sya brand new pero at least hindi na laggers at quality na photos ko.
February, I had my last field trip :( and it was fun tho. Abi and I also celebrated valentines sa yatyagat at bulalo. HAHAHA TAKAS MOMINTS.
March, papa/abi bday celeb again. Since wala si papa, nag celebrate ako kela abi. So ayun tinreat nya ako sa NONOs. Also renewed my driver's license. 10 YEARS BRUH. :p i consider this as an achievement kasi kaskasera ako mag drive HAHAHA
April, started my OJT in Microchip. Had a great experience in there and kung magaling lang talaga ako sa programming, ipupursue ko talaga dun. I celebrated my birthday sa bellevue sa alabang. Sarap HAHAHA. Also, sumama ako sa family trip nila Abi with fam nya sa Indang. First time ko mag-ilog na hindi sa ilocos i think? medyo skeri pero sige pwede na.
May, I already passed my thesis. So waiting nalang ako finally sa graduation ko. SOBRANG HELL yung thesis namin kasi composed of software and hardware yung prototype namin at napuyat at nagastusan rin kami ng sobra. Pero thank you G, nairaos namin.
June, so glad na naoperahan si mama. Natanggal na yung mga bukol nya. At sobrang swerte pa kasi sa asian hospital sya na-operahan. And it only costs us 9000 pesos for everthing!! Imagine sobrang mura. Kaya thanks to papa's healthcard. sobrang laking help financially. Then, nag bday si tita jers sa pansol, swimming with fam and with abi.
July, nag 50th si mama. Im happy kasi blinessan siya another year. And 6th year namin ni bigeeh, and we celebrated it in Vivere. Sosyal no HAHAHA first time namin mag hotel sa alabang so its a check sa bucketlist.
August, dumating na si papa. Cinelebrate namin 50th ni mama sa Don Miguels. Masaya akong marami rin kaming napasaya non. Sobrang success ng event, kasi syempre, I organized it. :P HAHAHA pero mainit lang talaga non yawa pero it went well.
September, guess what? SAW TWICE WITH MY VERY OWN EYES. It was my very first concert sa buhay ko and TWICE pa nakita ko. I am happy kasi kasama fam and abi. Sayang lang wala si phen pero GAHD. I am beyond happy talaga. HAHAHA sana maulit ulit tong experience na to. Bro, also. I just became a COMPUTER ENGINEER!!! Pero I owe my success and gastos sa parents ko. I hope one day, masuklian ko yon.
October, JAPAN!!! Another achievement nanaman. Nakapag-JAPAN with the whole fam literal. Kulang ang 4 na araw sa Japan. Sana sa susunod weeks talaga ang stay para talagang makapag-enjoy at makapag rest at the same time.
NOVEMBER, BRO IM EMPLOYED. Kahit mababa sweldo at dami tasks. I think I can do it alone naman but, for sure. This is only for experience. I am a SALES DATA ANALYST.
I am not saying na proud ako about it. But somehow, nakahinga nako ng maluwag kasi naging honest na ako tapos I feel free na rin. Nagsabi sila na they won't support, but I'm glad na they understand.
ALL OF THESE I OWE IT TO MY FAMILY AND LORD. Thank you so much. I hope next year, mas masaya at marami pa. I love you 2023, more to come <3
Hanggang dito nalang kasi magpuputukan na. THANK YOU G.

Striking off from my bucket list…
(extract from 2021)
A selfie by the Eiffel tower, a sun-kissed evening gazing over the London bridge, and a trip to "the" United States of America. These three had found their place in my travel bucketlist. March 2020, my well planned and sorted out trip to USA was bowled over by Modi-ji's plan to suspend all international flights, as a measure to protect all of us against the spread of COVID-19. An year of masks and sanitizers went by. School @ home, office @ home, recent recovery from COVID-19 infection; a perfect time to visit the USA and strike it off from my ever growing bucket list.
A glimse of the Eiffel tower while landing or taking off from CDG would be a cherry on the USA trip cake. Excitement took over commonsense, I went ahead and booked my round trip flight to USA through Paris. Do I have to pay a little extra and consider a refundable ticket? No I don't, I am not cancelling my plans anyway. The USA had imposed travel restrictions for Indians transiting through the Schengen area. I realised it the next evening and not to forget, I had booked a non-refundable ticket. Sleepless night.
Should I wait for one more year till the "new normal" isnt normal anymore. I was raised with the independence to dream, and to do what my heart desires.
Travel restrictions were for transit, not for Indians. I stay in Bengaluru (I call it "the rocking city"), and flights to USA were departing from Delhi. Don't hesistate, go ahead. Another set of non-refundable air tickets were delivered in email with a note saying "you will not be allowed to travel with a name mismatch in the travel documents." My name has 34 characters in it! As a practise I always leave a portion of it while typing. Which means, with the newly booked tickets, I won't be able to travel. Another sleepless night ahead. The whole name issue was sorted out and new tickets were issued after a day long draining discussion with the airline. Since the pandemic was still around, it was mandatory to get the negative COVID-19 test result for travelling. Twice gone wrong, this time I was extra cautious while taking an appointment with a clinic nearby for the COVID-19 test, and made sure they get the test result delivered a day before the travel.
COVID testing triggered my nose to bleed which wasn't very unusual.
I was all set to fly, my shopping list included masks, sanitizers, wet wipes, dry wipes and everything else for a safe travel. While I was pulling down my luggage from the loft, my phone rang. A lady from the COVID testing clinic said, "Madam, we apologize. We won't be able to provide the test results on time as a portion of our testing lab caught fire."
Expensive tickets, shopping, $$. I was going to lose it all, if I dont get the test report on time. Another sleepless night, with all of these flashing in front of me. There was nothing much I could do about it, other than to wait for the testing lab to be functional soon. Few hours before the flight, I got my test results delivered to me. Name mismatch again! From the lab, they informed they can't get my full name printed on the test result as my name was unusually long.
Early morning, I boarded Bengaluru-Delhi flight. A journey little more than 2hrs. I was looking forward to Delhi-Chicago flight to relax and sleep, after having few sleepless nights. I could pull back the seat, lean and watch some good movies during my 15hrs journey. If that's not enough, my phone was loaded with Netflix downloads. In India, domestic flights do not have an entertainment system, so that was something to look forward to, on an international flight.
Boarded Chicago flight. After usual safety announcements, the flight took off. Flight crew had their PPE kit on. I was ready to relax and indulge in the in-flight entertainment system. Few button clicks, the displayed remained blank. I called a lady from the crew.
"The display isn't powering on, could you please check."
"Madam, that unit isn't functioning. I'm sorry about that." The units towards my left and right were all good.
Now I had to resort to my own Netflix library on phone. I click a lot of pictures whereever I go, which is one of the good reasons why my phone battery drains off too soon. For charging mobile phones, every seat has a USB charging point. Watching movies for whole of 15hrs would be seamless as the charging point is right in front of each passsenger seat. But, for me, it didnt help. Apple's decision to change the charger type for the new iPhone had put my entertainment in flight ideas at bay.
I reached the USA 4 days back. I would say, it's worth the sleepless nights. Take time, take a break, travel, enjoy!
As I write this, my gmail alerts me my return flight from Houston to Chicago had been cancelled, due to operational issues!!

In 2022 I made it my goal to travel more, and told myself that money would always come but I couldn’t miss out on experiences. December 2022 I went to the Dominican, March 2023 I went to Phenix and drove to the top of a mountain (I may or may not have screamed) April 2023 I went to south Padre island, and this morning I woke up in Hawaii. Do the things that make you happy! You can always make more money, but the opportunity to travel may never come again. Save that money, and live ❤️

March 27, 2023
Woke up at 5.15am because Eddie's going to be climbing before working. Morning kisses and a brief cuddle and off he goes. Played Wordle before sleeping and the word today was one of the weirder ones in the game. Woke up again at around 11am and called mommy and Aira. Kind of told them off for not saving some of the money I send them. I told them that I'm not one to contact when some emergency happens because I barely have money for myself. I need to enjoy life and when you don't have money it's kind of hard, you feel me right fam? I mean I can't just work my ass off and not enjoy, right? I think telling them that now rather than later will save me and them from having problems.
Took a bath around 12pm and kind of underestimated the time that I have left to get to GOSH. Ran towards Custom House Station and thankfully got to the train in time otherwise it would have been another 11 minutes of waiting and my appointment was around 1.30pm. Got to Tottenham Court Road Station and took the eastbound Central Line to Holborn and walked my way to GOSH. It was a rather long walk. As I was walking I was thinking how this is going to be my life in the coming months. Waking up a bit early, taking 2 trains, and a 10 minute walk from the station to the hospital. Well, it's the development I want. I have to commit. I was also looking for a gym near work so I can go there after shifts to workout. No luck. The tour with Sam, my new manager, was very fascinating. He took me down and showed me 18 theatres and the cases that they did. It's definitely bigger than Kingston's. I'm pumped to say the least. Also scared, but I'm up for the challenge. After the tour, I went to Chinatown because I was craving for their pork buns and decided to buy Eddie some because well, I just like feeding him for some reason. If you date me, I'm definitely the sweet type. Everything I do, I'll definitely think of you. Went to UCLH to give Eddie his pork buns and I can tell he was smiling even when he was wearing a mask and he sent me the cutest text after. Got to Warren Street and took the Victoria Line to Vauxhall and missed the National Rail back home so I had to wait for another 13 minutes. Got home and sorted my BRP which is now scheduled to be delivered this Saturday so I have to cancel my waiting list. Went to the gym and did chest, some back because the equipments were being used, abs, and a 10 minute walk in the threadmill. Went to Aldi and bought some groceries. Cooked some air fried chicken and some rice with pease and bought some sandwiches and protein pudding for snacks tomorrow. Did the laundry and took a bath and now I'm rested. To end, I've ordered some clothes from Boohooman so I can feel better in the gym. I hope they arrive tomorrow.
I had such a productive day today. I had a lovely stroll around London today and to be honest I just want to see more. I'm excited to meet the people I'll be meeting very soon and I just know that things are going to turn up for me.
Today's thoughts are about being ambitious. I think it's time for me to dream. To want something more out of the mundane that I have right now. I'll make a list of the things I want to do and explore, like a bucketlist, and I'll make them happen.. It'll take most of what I have-- to outgrow my shell and go out of my comfort zone but I know I can do it. I have to.
