Mapleshade designs
I wanted to see how the characters would look like whem i draw them, so here it is. This was supposed to be posted days ago, but laziness got me.
Mapleshade was kinda of a random design, and i like it, but i want to improve it someday, also wanted to make her look like a female Disney villian, so she has Tigerstar 1 treatment.
Appledusk is an old design, and his markings in the chin, neck and chest were supposed to look like an apple.
Reedshine has similar markings as Crookedstar and Silverstream, and Silver's blue eyes, because omfg, her description is literally "a dark orange she-cat" Wtf Erins.
Frecklewish is related to Tigerstar 1, so she gets some of his looks, but in a more skinny type.
The kits, they were fun to make, i loved to draw Patchkit and Larchkit, and Petalkit is basically mini Mapleshade with Appledusk's colours.
And Ravenwing, i wanted to given him a mullet for some reason, but i failed because he looks bald now, well you win some and lose others.

hiii hello, i just finished reading all of the Boatem Ghosts fics and the whole tag over like. two days (i love it btw, especially To Keep it's so fucked up <3, and also what exists of the prequels) and felt i had to say that i can't stop comparing Scar to Mapleshade Warrior Cats i'm sorry he's got those vibes, completely unhinged and entirely convinced that his motivations make perfect sense and should apply to everybody else. i'm being autistic about this
ALSO i really really love your cub x mumbo stuff it's making me insane, i'm gonna read like all your writing if i continue being unable to sleep
mapleshade comparison set my warrior cats blood on fire and fur on end the first second I read that but. god. you might fucking be right. You should be sorry. This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me /extreme silly
Side note I believe this is unironically the best piece of merch warrior cats as ever made. god. please don’t make me start thinking about boatem ghosts mapleshade’s vengence. don’t make goodtimeswithscar bringing children into this world a reality. However Impulse would be appledusk, Mumbo would be Frecklewish, Grian would be Ravenwing(?) and Pearl would be the apprentice that rocks scar’s shit. Skizz is impulse’s new wife obviously.
putting mumbo in misogyny cat hell with scar is just as terrible as it seems. This is so stupid. I hate mapleshade LMAOOOO

What is Mapleshade like in this au?
Great question. I'm putting most of this under the cut bc it gets really, really long.
Mapleshade is what i call a 'Victim Villain', a character who at the time of the events they experienced were a victim, but over time become a villain, from vengence or anger or processing trauma in an extremely unhealthy way.
To preface the rest of this post, i have not read Mapleshade's Vengence, but i know the plot and have read up on character essays about her. Please correct me if i get any of the fundemental facts wrong, but this is a rewrite, so i have leg room.
In my rewrite, Mapleshade is a concept more than a person. The clans- Riverclan in particular- treat her memory as a mythos, a tall tale to tell kits, something that didn't truly happen.
However, Mapleshade did exist. The truth of her story is that she was the mate of a horrible tom who refused responsbility when his actions caught up to him. This resulted in the deaths of their kits. And, yes, Mapleshade killed, she killed at least three cats in her vengence. She was not, at any point, psychotic, or hallucinating. She was a grieving, betrayed cat who saw her kits' deaths as a message from Starclan; that they had turned away from her. In the belief that the ancestors themselves had betrayed her, too, she took fate and karma into her own paws and enacted her vengence.
She was not right for this, but I personally understand her actions. In my opinion, she was not wrong for the murder of Appledusk. He had that coming. what she was wrong for was the murder of two other, less involved cats.
However, Starclan is a biased god, they prosecute based on rules they decided, and do not prosecute those they like or those that are close with them. This is why Appledusk ended up in Starclan, despite his cheating, cross-clan relationship, and the death of innocent kits. Starclan liked him, so he got to stay.
Mapleshade was prosecuted for all three murders and the death of her kits. Starclan refused to accept that Thunderclan and Riverclan's leaders caused the entire situation, that their own rules caused it to happen, so she was prosecuted for it.
She was caught in a situation we see later in the arcs; Bluestar and Oakheart, Leafpool and Crowfeather, even Jayfeather and Kestrelflight. Cross-clan relationships that result in kits and use another cat as a parentage claim. Mapleshade wasn't even the first, and she certainly wasn't the last.
Since her death, however, her memory has been twisted. She is not viewed as a greiving mother, angry at the stars themselves for taking her kits. Nor as a cat who commited murder for revenge. She is seen as a boogeyman, but in very different ways depending on the clan.
Windclan and Shadowclan have little opinion on her, she doesn't belong to their history. Riverclan and Thunderclan, however, remember her, or they think they do. To Riverclan, Mapleshade is told to kits to scare them, to make them behave and stay within camp walls. Mapleshade kills kits by drowning them, so don't go too far from the reeds. To them, she was a mad outsider, a thunderclan cat who killed riverclan cats, and especially kits. the three kits in her story are not seen as hers, but entirely as Appledusk's. They have twisted the story to make their clan look better.
To Thunderclan, Mapleshade is just another code breaker who was exiled. She had a half clan relationship, killed those that found out, and left. She was killed by the brave and faithful warriors of the clan. Her spirit is said to roam the forest when the moon is empty. But, in Thunderclan's tale, the riverclan mate is to blame, but is not named. He is known as her accomplice to the murders, an unnamed, unknown figure who followed her orders. It is known that she had kits with this tom, but it said they were left with a clan queen when she disappeared, later coming back to kill the kits to dispose of her sins.
Neither of these are true. For Riverclan, it is to make themselves look better. To push the blame onto a mad outsider and not one of their own, to not have to consider the damage they caused. For Thunderclan, it is to reinforce why half clan relationships simply cannot and should not occur. It is dangerous, look what happened when this cat tried it! It is a twisting of history that the clans often do, primarily before arc 1. They use genuine tragedy and twist it to ensure their warriors behave.
However, Mapleshade is still affectd by this. You see, the dark forest is a dangerous thing, all on its own. You have to be remembered, by at least one person, in some way, to exist in the spirit world. That is why stories are passed down so extensively by the clans, they can't let the stars die out. But it applies to the Dark Forest, too. The more you remember a 'villain', the more they exist and the less they fade. But, if you twist the memory of a dead cat, their spirit will corrupt. Mapleshade, as a spirit, is significantly different than she was when she was alive. She is cruel, manipulative, and ancient compared to the remembered villains around her. She cannot clearly recall her own past, because she has been so heavily distorted, she cannot tell what is her true past and what is the clans' memory of it. Even her physical- or, more accurately, spiritual- body shows evidence of this distortion; her tortie markings have corrupted into the shape of a maple leaf, her fur drips with bloody water, and her claws are always out, the fur of her kits trapped between them.
And yes, she targets Appledusk's lineage as a spirit, but that is due to the corruption. In a cruel combonation of the era she was raised in, and the twisting of her memory, she belives in the sins of the parent passes to the child. Appledusk's sin of causing her kits deaths- in whatever way she thinks he caused it- makes his entire bloodline guilty of it, too. She only appeared to some of them, the ones who looked or reminded her of Appledusk the most. Crookedstar, most noteably. But others, too.
Interestingly, she does not target Mossheart. she knows, inherently, that they are of his lineage, and she is angry at Thunderclan, but for reasons she herself cannot understand, she cannot bring herself to target the half-clan cat who almost died as a kit because their leader wouldn't have allowed their existence. She took mercy on them, but she did not take mercy on Silverstream. She did not cause her death, but she certainly had an influence over it, even if she didn't directly appear to the molly. She intended for the kits to die with her, a twisted, distorted sense of mercy. Silverstream can't be punished if there's no evidence it happened. It is the same concept that Thunderclan distorted into her, the idea that she killed her own kits to wipe her sins.
And, of course, neither leader at the time of her tragedy were punished. Both ended up in Starclan, and faded by the time the clans realised Starclan's problems. Unfortunately, Mapleshade herself was killd in the War Of Stars (Arc 4), so she didn't get any sort of apology or second chance, either. A spirit killed outside of the spirit realm is gone forever, no coming back. no amount of remembering will bring her back. But by the end of Arc 7, Mapleshades story is acknowledged. Some still think her to be blindingly evil, but others understand her position. Roseleaf, my thunderclan protagonist for Arc 7, makes sure her kits are named and remembered, and that the leaders that caused their deaths are known for their actions, even if their spirits are not around to recieve just punishment. Her story in thunderclan post arc 7 is told not as a tall tale, but as a lesson on how leaders are not inherently correct, and that unjust actions must be challenged by their clan. How Starclan is not correct simply for being their ancestors. Roseleaf, personally, believes that if someone in Thunderclan had defended her from the leader, made him let her stay until the rivers were calmer, that she and her kits would have survived, even if Appledusk rejected them.
Ultimately, she is a tragedy. But not one that is forgotten.

So, someone who wishes to remain anonymous asked me about my birchfreckle au and tbh imma just ramble about it.
While I do not have an exact reason why, but Frecklewish and Birchface end up becoming mates around the time Mapleshade's Vengence would have happened. However, this AU was essentially me going "What if Frecklewish had kits and got exiled then went on a killing spree?" and "What if Birchface was really the father of the trio?"
But Frecklewish ends up getting pregnant with Petalkit, Larchkit, and Patchkit and gives birth shortly after the battle with the RiverClan patrol due to the stress of Birchface's and Flowerpaw's deaths during the battle. Now, Mapleshade is pregnant with Appledusk's kits, but she gets found out early in her lie and instead of her being kicked out, she rats out Frecklewish as having a mateship with her brother and gets her kicked out. And with river trauma still fresh on her mind, Frecklewish decides to go towards WindClan for help.
However, on the way, they get ambushed by a fox and during the fight, Frecklewish hits her head and gets knocked out. When she comes to, she finds does not see her kits, but sees blood. And in her grief, Frecklewish seeks revenge for her kits.
First target for her is also Ravenwing, who did nothing to help her and voiced on how she should be kicked out. Similar to MV, she kills Ravenwing by the moonstone and leaves his body for hawks.
The next target is Mapleshade. And Frecklewish finds her and her kits by the river. However, she does not want to kill the kits and instead kinda lures them away the moment Mapleshade turns her head away for more than a moment. Frecklewish lures her target deeper into the forest, away from the camp, and close to the thunderpath. After hiding the kits so they do not have to witness the carnage, she pushes Mapleshade into the thunderpath as a monster comes by, snapping her up in it's "jaws" and carrying her away with blood.
The last target of her rage is Oakstar. She brings the kits to ThunderClan and sees Oakstar leading a small patrol with Seedpelt and Bloomheart. After towards the fourtrees border, Frecklewish can't take her grief and anger anymore and then pouncing to attack Oakstar.
In the chaos of the fight, Seedpelt and Bloomheart run off to get help. And during the fight, the two end up dangerously close to the where the river meets the gorge. With timing running out before the rest of ThunderClan would be there to save Oakstar, she throws him and herself off the cliff and into rapid waters, taking her life and his last life.
Now, my AU kinda ends here with Beetail becoming Beestar, but I also am lowkey also into the headcanon that a twoleg finds the kits who hid after the fox attacked their mom, raises the three at the barn, and they all become the surrogate grandpaw-like family that Barley and later Ravenpaw would need.

Which of the Gen 4 MLP cast is a Warriors fanatic?
My take, the CMC, Luna, Twilight has an entire library dedicated to the hardcovers and forgien covers. Maybe Celestia only read the 1st series and cried her heart out, refusing to continue, and maaaaybe read Mapleshades Vengence.
Fluttershy would be horrified at Tigerstars death and cry at Brighthearts injury and get angry at Bluestar for calling her Lostface.
Rarity has no time for 'filly' stories about cats in the forest unlike Sweetie Belle.
Rainbow Dash is hesitant...but geeks out over Firestar vs Scourge! Her fav cat is Tawnypelt.
Pinkie Pie read ALL. THE. BOOKS!!! Novellas, comics, guide books etc and loves Squirrelflight.
Applejack ain't got time fer silly lil kitty books!
Big Mac steals Appleblooms kindle to read Into The Wild cuddling Firestars plushy. And cries at Silverstreams death later!
Trixies...meh. not a book pony.
Starlight read most of the 3 series but isn't that much of a fanatic to continue. Waste of studying time.
Ask. Discord anything.
Moondancer has a fuck ton of Warriors OCs, fanfictions, art, WAP videos at the ready for a Warriors trivia game

On a whim I read Cleavepool's Revenge, and I gotta say, its pretty funny how much it predicted Mapleshade's Vengence.
People really do just want to see a woman go crazy and murder a bunch of people.

head cannon: crow feather is actually raven wings reincarnation brought back to the mortal world to learn to empathize with code breakers, to understand why anyone would have half clan romance and that keeping a secret to protect kits is actually important.
not because mapleshade was in the right to murder people, but because the kits never asked to be born. he, raven/crow eventually take part in helping to rid of the broken law
perhaps in an au mapleshades kits could have been the ones to bestow the powers to the three, including hollyleaf. but they thought she was going too strict on the code law just like ravening and wanted to guide her to inner peace, to not overwhelm her with dealing with a power as well as an inner moral conflict of her very existence. certainly to not recreate history, perhaps that's why she was incapable of medicine unlike her brother, because she cared too much about the code whereas he thought starclan was worthy of suspicion and therefor would be less likely to cause harm in the name of the code =}
