I Was Told to Stay Quiet (Part 1)
This is an Auston Matthews x Mitch Marner fic.
Rating: Explicit (depictions of sex, language)
Characters: Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Connor Brown, and the Toronto Maple Leafs ensemble
-x-
No one knew Mitch was bisexual. No one was going to know he was bisexual. Everyone knew that the NHL told people that it didn’t matter your sexual orientation if you wanted to play. Everyone that was associated with the NHL knew that was not true. The slurs and language passed around in the dressing room and on the ice was anything but welcoming to those who were not straight.
Mitch was only 19 years old and he knew he liked men and women since he was 16. There was a guy on his hockey team during junior year that he got really close to, his name was Denver. Closer than he had with his other friends. He got butterflies anytime he spoke to Denver. Then Mitch got drafted and he lost all touch with Denver.
Mitch got close to a couple guys on his team including Willy Nylander, Connor Brown and Auston Matthews. The four of them were quite close to one another but the team was a family and was bonded like a family.
Mitch waits by the front door of his apartment, he’s waiting for Auston so they can go to practice together. Auston pulls up in front of the building and Mitch slides his phone into his back pocket. Mitch heads towards Auston’s car with a big smile on his face. Opening the trunk door, Mitch slides his bag into the trunk, closing it once its in. He opens up the door and slides into the seat.
“Matts, how are ya pal?” Mitch smiles and buckles up his seat belt.
“I’m good, how are you?” Auston looks over at Mitch.
“I’m good. Ready for practice”
The two of them drive to the rink with music blasting from the speakers of Auston’s car. Matthews pulls into the underground parking garage and pulls into their regular spot. Both of the boys hop out of the car and grab their gear from the back. Auston playfully shoulders Mitch, knocking him off his foot.
“Dick” Mitch smiles

The two friends walk into the dressing room and are greeted by cheers from the rest of the boys.
“Mitchy! Matts!” Willy cheers with his slight undertone of an accent. He playfully throws his arms over Mitch and Auston’s shoulders, hugging them. All three of the boys chuckle.
“Alrighty, Willy. How are you?” Mitch laughs and walks over to his stall which is between Willy’s and Auston’s. Setting down his bag, Mitch begins to set up his stuff to get ready for practice.
“I’m good, pumped for practice” Willy pulls his shirt off over his head, messing up his blond hair. Mitch quickly follows suit, pulling his shirt off over his head.
“Me too” Auston smiles. Auston pulls his shirt off over his head, leaving him with just his pants on and his socks. Mitch has always been jealous of the way the taller man looked. Tan skin from growing up in California pulled smooth over large muscles from his religious schedule of playing sports and working out. He averts his eyes, not wanting to be caught staring.
Once everyone is in their gear they head off to the ice. The players start doing drills and just general practice stuff. Mitch skates up next to Willy and quickly starts up a conversation with his buddy.
“Still enjoying practice with burning muscles, Willy?” Mitch chirps. Mitch and Willy always enjoy chirping each other as it is the nature of the game.
“I feed off of the burn, Marns” Willy pants. Mitch laughs in return. Auston quickly skates up to Mitch and body checks him lightly, as lightly as a 6′2, 220 pound hockey player can, and Mitch fall on his ass.
“Oi, you ass!” Mitch gets up and starts a fight with Auston.
“Go Mitchy!” Willy yells from off to the side while he watches them wrestle. Patty quickly skates over and breaks them up.
“Hey, get off of each other!” Patty pulls back Mitch as it is easier than trying to restrain Auston. Connor Brown jumps in to help pull them apart. Auston and Mitch are laughing at this point, panting from fighting and laughing.
“Good fight” Auston laughs
“Yea, good fight” Mitch pants, fist bumping Auston. Patty looks extremely unimpressed from the two goofing off when they should be practicing.
“What even started that?” Patty huffs
“He checked me and knocked me on my ass” Mitch shouts like a 5 year old trying to blame their older brother for breaking their mother’s prized vase. Auston began laughing hysterically at Mitch’s outburst, even Patty lets out a chuckle.
“Alright boys, go practice” Patty pushed them both down the ice
All of the boys resumed their practicing until they were thoroughly sweaty and tired. They all get off the ice and go to the locker room to get changed and go home.

“Wanna come over for a bit? Watch a movie and just relax before the game?” Mitch looks over at Auston buckling up his seat belt. Mitch has definitely gotten the closest to Auston out of his teammates. Auston and him clicked right away and they always drill together and everything. They’re bros
“Sure thing, Marns. I don’t know if I’ll be able to stay awake the whole time though.” Matts laughs. Auston’s laugh always makes Mitch very happy and feel warm inside. It’s a weird feeling but he likes it.
“All good, I don’t know if I’ll last either” Mitch smiles as they pull out of the parking garage and head towards Mitch’s apartment.

Mitch unlocks his door and lets Auston step in first, he follows close behind, closing the door once he’s in his place. Auston toes off his shoes and leaves them by the front door. Mitch toes his shoes off and leaves them beside Auston’s.
“What do you want to watch?” Auston inquires as he plops himself down on Mitch’s soft couch with a groan. Mitch snorts at the ugly sound Auston made. It makes him sound like he’s 70 years old when in reality he’s a couple months younger than Mitch.
“I kinda feel like watching a Captain America movie” Mitch gestures for Auston to move over and give him room so he can sit down on the couch. Mitch flicks through his Netflix to find some Captain America movie. He finally finds one and puts it on.
Not even 45 minutes into the movie Auston is lightly snoring beside him. Mitch looks over at the bigger man beside him through his half opened lids. Mitch grabs the blanket on the other couch and gently covers Auston with it. He gets a drowsy grunt of thanks from the sleeping player.
Mitch trudges to his bed and flops down onto the soft mattress. He quickly covers himself with a blanket and sets his alarm to wake him up in time for the game. Sleep quickly takes over, dragging his already heavy lids down.
