i think the shift from fanfiction dot net and youtube amv srmthfg fandom to ao3 and tumblr srmthfg fandom is so funny.
its very indicative of how fandom culture as a whole has shifted from the "hetero shipping above all else" thing to a heavier focus on meta and also a more open-minded shipping scene (see how we went from "shipping everyone with nova" to "mantauri divorce arc").
and even though i have no proof of it, because i wasn't active in the fandom at this time, but i think the shift happened in 2016, when the voice actor for sparx released anthony fantano's worst album of the decade.
