Three beautiful songs from the album “Lipotaktes” of Mikis Theodorakis (1962), with the voice of Theodorakis himself. The lyrics are of his brother Yannis. Bouzouki plays the great Manolis Chiotis. The video includes scenes from the movie “Synoikia to Oneiro” of Alekos Alexandrakis (1961), for which Theodorakis has written the music.

Hi! I just watched that video with greek music in it, and wow it was awesome! I tried to search for the titles and artists that were played but I couldn’t understand anything as I can’t read greek. Could you at least provide me with the songs from the 50’s? That was the best era haha, thanks in advance!
Hey Anon, I’m glad you enjoyed the video and the music!
The songs from the 50s are:
Η Ταμπακιέρα - Σοφία Βέμπο (I Tambakiera - Sofia Vembo)
I gave you the links to the original performances but if you copy paste only the song titles on youtube you will be able to find performances by various artists and more contemporary renditions of the songs . Hope I helped!

My Master research
The music genre rebetiko is the name of the Greek urban folk song which appeared at the end of the 19th century . This music developed mainly on the ports of Greece, where the working class lived and then moved to other urban centers. Manolis Chiotis, the composer of the song whose case study is base, was one of the most important artists of the rebetiko genre that word has known.
The subject of the master's thesis:
The subject of my master thesis is based on a case study of a contemporary reprise of a composition of Manolis Chiotis. With the opportunity to talk about how rebetiko over time has evolved and changed the performance of its pieces from its inception until today.
Methodology:
Bibliographic study of rebetiko
Biographical study of the composer Manolis Chiotis
International bibliography study on rebetiko covers
Transcript of the original version
Transcription of the reprise
Interview of the l’artist (cover)
Search for interviews already published out
Musical analysis of the transcriptions
Bibliography
: The Biography is based mainly on rebetiko and the composer Manolis Chiotis but
in addition to that I was also interested in the international literature on the reworking of an older repertoire. So I also study bibliographies on other types of music that are identical from the same period time (rebetiko) like jazz latin and manouche.
