"Who's Manny?"
I just found out that "Manny" is used as a nickname for "Roman" and i decided to make a short fanfic about it because i got inspired.
Resume: Virgil has been crazy about his new boyfriend lately and has been talking non-stop about him, his two best friends, Remus and Janus, start to befome curious about this new man Virgil is dating, his name is, "Manny" or at least that's what Remus thinks since that's what Virgil calls him, to his surprise, Manny is only a loving nickname that Virgil uses to hyde the identity of his boyfriend, eventually, the true comes out and Remus is not happy about who "Manny" actually is.
Pairing: Romantic Prinxiety, mentioned romantic Demus.
Warnings: Swearing, lying, Remus being an overprotective brother and Virgil is a simp.
-----------------------------------------------
Remus is rolling his eyes, once again, Virgil started going on about his new man. Virgil has been like this since he started seen his current boyfriend, he was going on and on about how beautiful and talented he is: "Manny did this" "Manny did that" or "Manny and i went to X place last week". Remus was tired of it, it was cute at first but now it was just annoying.
He couldn't understand how Janus was SO patient with Virgil, meybe because the emo has never been so invested in a relationship before, Virgil is usually really private about his love life and never talked this munch about his dates. But this time he was head over heels and couldn't stop talking about this "Manny" guy.
Janus was starting to get really curious about him, and really suspicious about their relationship too, because as he said it: "For a man who brags so munch about his boyfriend, he is trying really hard to hyde it from us" and he wasn't wrong, Remus couldn't care less, he was tired to hear about Manny, but he admited that it was really weird how little Virgil shared about his boyfriend. Sure he talked a lot about Manny, but at the same time he didn't? Sure, he talked about how amazing he is, but he never gives any actual information about him, like how old he is or what he does for a living, what he is studying in collage, nothing.
"is kinda impresive, you know?" Remus heard Janus said "How you can talk so munch about this guy, but never tells us anything about it" Remus looked at Virgil, who now had his eyes wide open and had gone completely silent. Janus continued:
"When are we going to meet him?"
Virgil said the same reason he gave the last time they asked him that "is too soon" but Janus wasn't having it
"Come on, Virge, is been seven months since you used that scuse, you can't keep using when you two have been dating for ten months by now"
Virgil shrugged his shoulders and look away:"You can't meet him now, he is out of town".
"Oh, why? Is he gone because of work? Or collage?".
Virgil looked unsure to answer that question, but finally he said:
"He is away because he got a role in a musical, is not a big one, but he is really exited about it".
"So he is an actor"? Janus asked and
Virgil nooded, Janus wanted to know more, Remus was listening to the conversation, he wanted to see how munch information Janus could get from Virgil before the emo decided to leave. Janus asked another question:
"How old is he?"
"22"
"Is he in collage?"
"Why does that matters?" Virgil was starting to get anxious, so he grabed his drink and looked at Janus before taking a bif sip from the cup. Remus was starting to get interested in the conversation joined in:
"don't get defensive, Emo, Jani just wants to know more about your little boyfriend, is normal since you want to hyde him so badly"
"I AM NOT trying to hyde him"
"Then why don't you tell us more about him, right now the only thing we know about him is that he is an actor and is 22 years old" Remus smiles at janus and laugh.
"And that his name is Manny, don't forget his name, Jan"
Janus looked at Remus and said, with a smirk on his face.
"Oh, i don't think that's his actual name Remus, little Virge here has a bad habit of refering to his boyfriends by nicknames only" Janus looked back at Virgil, who looked like a bowl of cold water had just fall over him.
"So what's his actual name? I guess is something like Emmanuel? or Manfred?"
Virgil was now sweating and got up.
"None of those, now if you scuse me, i have to go"
"I guess his name just end with "Man"?"
"Wait a minute"
Remus looked at Virgil, something was weird, things started to connect in his head. Virgil had a 22 years old boyfriend, that was an actor and was away from town because he got a role in a musical, meanwhile, Remus just happends to have a younger brother, who is put of town, is also and actor and is the same age as Manny.
"I REALLY HAVE TO GO" Virgil grabed his things and left his part to pay for the drinks. In that moment Remus got up and started to follow Virgil.
"Virge, wait, who is Manny?"
Virgil didn't listen to him and walked faster.
"Virgil, come back"
Virgil started to run.
"VIRGILIO DON'T FUCKING RUN AWAY FROM ME, TELL ME WHO THE FUCK "MANNY" IS FOR?" Remus screamed while running behind Virgil.
Janus soon regreted his choices, payd for their drinks and run behind them while telling Remus to calm down.
Three weeks later, Roman come back to town and he was not happy when he found out about the fight his brother and boyfriend had in the middle of the street, and he was even more livid when Remus had the audacity to give him the silent treatment for dating one of his friends.

Character
Ares, AKA Mars, is Greco-Roman god of war, spirit of battle and courage. Second son of Zeus and Hera. Although he was disliked for his short-temper and aggressive demeanors, he is known as “father of Amazoness and Rome”. Arranged marriage with Enyo was needless to describe, toxic and dysfunctional; Enyo neglected and occasionally abused him with cruel words and physical violence. He endured for their son Enyalios to live normally, but when the abuse was revealed to Olympians Ares was encouraged by Hephaestus, Hestia, and others to divorce her. Although freed from Enyo’s abuse, he remained love-touch starved but finds comfort of blue roses sent anonymously to him. He occasionally accompanied Aphrodite whenever his brother Hephaestus was out working. While flattered that she’s attracted to him, Ares didn’t wish to betray his brother. One day, on his way home from war, he found little dove crying for its mother. Feeling sympathy, he picked it up and take it along to his home to care for it. However, he was shocked when the dove transformed back as Aphrodite. He was offended by trickery, but surprised to see petals of blue roses she rained in his house as she confessed her love to him. Realizing he himself loving her all along, the two began the love affair, but exposed to the gods by his brother Hephaestus who have heard of their affair from Helios and Apollo. Ashamed with guilt and humiliation, Ares left to Thrace. Eventually, reconciled with his brother, he learned that Aphrodite had his child and gave birth to a son named Eros.
Because of his dysfunctional first marriage, he had been touch/love starved as this lead to emotionally unstable conditions, lashing out his misery as anger when in war, causing many deities to fear or avoid him more. Unlike uncaring Zeus, Ares is no sex offender as he prioritizes consent of others. Equally loving his children and grandchildren, he would go in any level to protect them. Whenever Aphrodite shows a slight self-consciousness of her own appearance, Ares would immediately comforts her in his surprisingly bashful but genuine affections, melting the love goddess’ heart. According to many deities, Ares is the “sub/bottom” in relationship with Aphrodite.
In Fairly Odd Parents AU: Being one of the Olympian gods survived from the downfall, he resides with his wife Aphrodite. According to Eros/Cupid, Ares is described to be THRICE vindictive and jealous than Hera’s. He is also one of a very few gods Jorgen fears. It is also revealed he is “father of Amazonian Fairies”, as Amazonian fairies call him “papa”, “dad/daddy” or “father” with sheer glee when he visits them. The love god told Timmy it was Ares who taught him archery, and the godchildren can see Ares is a family man, unlike neglectful Zeus.
In Courage the Cowardly Girl AU: Along with other Greek deities, he witness his father falling for Courage Bagge, much to his annoyance and chagrin. He seemed disturbed how 2000 years of imprisonment in heaven can make Zeus forgot how to approach women.
In Grimm Adventures of Billie & Manny AU: He is one of the Olympian gods who support Hades’ status as Greco-Roman underworld ruler. Due to casualties from war, Ares help Hermes’ part-timing in counting the dead before retrieving their soul to underworld. Taken interest in Manny’s attitude, he thought of training the blond teenager as fine soldier. Watching Manny and Billie’s interaction brought him the times he and Aphrodite spend their time together.
In Camp Lakebottom AU: He was only mentioned by Esmeraldus, the merman who reside in Lakebottom. Ares was well-known for the first Olympian god for being pardoned from murdering Poseidon’s son and yelled for women’s right. According to Aphrodite, Ares partake in protecting female victims and a feminist.
In Disney Retelling - Heracles AU: Ares is portrayed as a main antagonist, finding Heracles’ existence as a threat as he believes he would replace his position as Olympian god as Ares is least liked by fellow gods. Hearing truth of Heracles’ birth, Ares decided to “avenge” his mother by concocting plan to get rid of Heracles. Throughout Heracles’ adventures in arc “Heracles; Year 1-12”, Ares sabotages or bring trouble in his and his friends’ lives. Ares is also a vindictive and jealous god, mercilessly making Aphrodite’s flings’ lives miserable or attempt to kill them for “defiling” his love with “their lowly seeds”. Through the journeys, Heracles confronted him as the god of war persuaded Hera to turn back on Zeus and take over Olympus. Heracles then saved his half older brother from Typhon and later, the two bothers finally make amends.
...More AU appearance ideas coming soon~!

"You don't look different the last time i've seen you." Manny seems to be more serious now judging from his expression, as if he's constantly pissed off all the time.
@mannequinentity
Autumn meets with people every day. Sometimes, he takes someone home and has them leave the next morning. He's rarely alone. But that's on a physical level. Autumn isn't close to anyone and doesn't have the desire to build a bond with anyone, either. He has had that mentality since he was a little kid. Yet, he met with Roman.
Life is strange, he must admit. In his unconscious and conscious detachment, there have been times when a random encounter has felt different. Autumn locks eyes with someone, and a magnet pulls them together. It's an attraction that doesn't fall into the sexual category. These are people he has coffee with, a short debate, and a laugh. Some of them have made him sigh. Then, he's quick to run.
Autumn does not crave intimacy, but these encounters leave him staggering for specific periods. People's energy tends to leak through other people's pores, invading them quickly as smoke mixes with air. He naturally escapes from this, but he can not reject the fact that it happened; it happens and will keep on happening.
"I guess I never changed the locks." Although he could swear, he hadn't done it.
Manny was one of those random attachments. Autumn had told himself he was doing charity to a poor soul, but now he was dropping his shoulders and putting the gun away from the door, disregarding the burning desire to hurt the man, to have him disappear from his life for good.
Manny's energy did not add comfort, excitement, or introspection to Autumn. In fact, Manny made him stressed and angry. He'd shout and break things constantly in their terrible attempt to communicate with one another, but Manny shrugged it off and pretended it never happened. Autumn knew that Manny had it better at his place than on the streets, and that's how the man became a pest he couldn't get rid of, no matter how hard he tried. And Autumn tried.
One day, Manny never came back. Autumn wondered if he had found somewhere else to stay. He guessed he'd be kicked quickly and come charging through his door. After a week, Autumn believed he had been taken by one of the gangs. Honestly, he looked for him to bring him back to safety. With no results, Autumn started reading the news, waiting for the day they'd announce a man found dead in an alley or a river.
Three months went by. Autumn hated it when he'd come back home and find the TV on. He was hopeful, thinking Manny had returned. Soon, he realized he had forgotten to turn it off before leaving. Autumn would slam the door of his room, resulting in thinking of Manny more fervently.
Life is strange, and human magnetism is a nuisance.
Tsk.
"You do look different, I must say." Autumn pursed his lips, turning the TV's volume up. He had no intention to listen to what Manny had to say. He was back, and that's what mattered.

For Christen Press, the Joy is in the Journey
Progress isn’t perfect.
That’s been Christen Press’s motto over the 781 days since she last played in a soccer match—and not just when it comes to her recovery from the ACL tear she sustained in June, 2022, but also when thinking about life as a whole.
“You have to accept that things won’t go the way you think they will, but maybe they’ll go better,” she explains. “Progress isn’t linear. It’s up and down and back and forth. But in that movement there’s more than what you ever imagined. So the imperfection—the struggle, the setbacks—those are actually the greatest gifts as you get to learn about yourself and you have the chance to grow.”
Press has had more than her share of setbacks over the last two years, as an initial surgery turned into two, then three, and finally four.
“I think every single time that I was told I’d have to have surgery, from the first ACL reconstruction and the three scopes that I had, I always thought I would be on the quickest timeline possible,” said Press when she returned to Angel City training in June. “I think that's part of who I am. I'm just relentlessly optimistic. I'm naively positive, and just thinking that everything's going to work out for me—and I never want that to change, you know? And I got off course of all of those timelines so many times that I finally had to actually relinquish that expectation of myself.”
In her two years off the field, Press says she’s grown and healed in more ways than just physically, but the goal was always to return, even if that possibility felt far off at times.
“I never thought about giving up,” says Press, “but there were moments that I thought I’d have to accept that I wouldn’t make it—or that ‘making it’ might not look how I expected.”
One of the hardest things about this process has been accepting that the outcome was not fully under her control. “I’m able to do a lot of suffering for success, and I’ve been that way since I was a child,” she says. “The question I had to answer was how to accept and be open to things I cannot control.”
Press had access to the best medical and rehabilitation care in the business—first at the Meyer Institute of Sports, an El Segundo rehab and performance facility specializing in elite athletes, and then with Angel City’s training staff, including VP of Medical and Performance Sarah Smith, Head Athletic Trainer Manny De Alba, Head of Sports Science Dan Jones, Director of Rehabilitation Sarah Neal, Performance Coach Michael Roman, Assistant Athletic Trainer April Seymon, and Senior Physical Therapist Joscelyn Shumate Bourne.
Ultimately, bodies don’t always heal the way we hope they will. All she could do was show up every day and try her best.
“I had to make decisions that centered my well being and full personhood,” she says. “To start to find my inherent value outside of excellence in the pitch.”
In part, that meant finding joy in other areas of life. She worked on her business, re–Inc, including starting a podcast with (business and life) partner Tobin Heath, initially focusing on the 2023 World Cup, then branching out to cover women’s soccer more generally. She went to the beach. She spent time with family.
In some ways, this time away from the game Press loves has been freeing. “The last two years have been the first of my career that I wasn’t evaluated on my performance,” she says. “I showed up for PT every day with a smile on my face and gave max effort. That’s all I had to do.”
Press’s return comes at a perfect time for the club: they’ve begun to build momentum with two convincing Summer Cup wins, against Club América and Bay FC, as they look ahead to the back half of the regular season. Playoffs are still well within reach heading into this stretch, a fact that Press’s return can only make more tangible.
“Her quality is inevitable,” says First Assistant Coach Eleri Earnshaw. “Last week in training, she scored a couple of goals that we haven't seen anyone else do yet this season in training.”
Returning to play after such a long hiatus isn’t easy for anyone, but Earnshaw says there’s a point the coaching staff have emphasized both to Press and to other injured players eyeing a return to the field: “your ability doesn't change overnight,” she says. “There are some things that just stay with you. Her chance creation, her separation from defenders—you’ve got to be in the right physical and mental place to be able to perform those things, to be confident to do it, but she is building those things up every day.”
“If we can get that quality onto the pitch for any number of minutes, great,” she concludes.
As Press anticipates her return to what she calls “the real world of professional sports”—one “filled with stress and pressure and often angst,” as she puts it—she’s going in with a fresh perspective.
“I’m determined to enjoy it,” she says. “I know who I am as a player and person, and I see this opportunity as a chance to do what I love. I told my teammates today: football is a miracle. It’s a miracle we get to do the thing we love.”
