FLASH REPORT OVERNIGHT: Severe Tropical Storm 'Kristine' takes Converge fiber internet down in the Luzon and Visayas areas, leaving local residents including Dumaguete City are being disrupted out [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
DUMAGUETE, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- Central and Eastern Visayas experienced several areas of overnight internet disruption, including Dumaguete City. This outage was caused by a Philippine fiber internet provider 'Converge', in partnership with SkyCable Corporation hits severe tropical storm 'Kristine' that hit the northeast and central Luzon region last Friday night (October 25th, 2024 at 10:35pm -- Dumaguete local time). This was once known as 'SkyFiber' to 'SkyTruFiber' under a new partnership with 'Converge ICT Solutions Incorporated'.
Earlier last Friday morning on the same day, per during an exclusive radio interview of 'XFM 104.9: Santiago City', Chief Meteorologist named 'Mr. Ramil Tuppil' from a state weather bureau 'Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration' (PAGASA) discussed the severe tropical storm 'Kristine' on the programme 'Bullseye'. He emphasized that this storm has no ties to 'Kristine Sanchez' from "Hailey's on It!" and is moving northwest through the West Philippine Sea (WPS). The storm was reported to be 125 kilometers per hour (kph) west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union in the Ilocos Region.
Tuppil reported that signal number 2 eventually impacted several areas, such as Isabela, Zambales, Pampanga (which is where Converge, the leading telecommunication provider is based), Tarlac, Metro Manila and among others. Here in Central and Eastern Visayas, areas under signal number 1 are experiencing impacts. This includes places like Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Iloilo, Bantayan Islands, the western part of Northern Samar, the northern part of Samar, the southern tip of Cebu, entire area of Siquijor and Negros Oriental. The municipalities and cities that are feeling the impact are Mabinay, Manjuyod, Bais, Tanjay, Pamplona, Amlan, San Jose, Sibulan, Dumaguete, Valencia, Bacong, Dauin, Zamboanguita, Siaton, Santa Catalina, Bayawan and Basay.
Apart from the STS 'Kristine', we contacted our news team at 'Converge' using the main landline in Pampanga. We can confirm that the fiber internet network outage is real. OneNETnews can exclusively reveal for the first time that the affected fiber internet outage are from Sibulan, Dumaguete City and Bacong in Negros Oriental. The Converge technicians are currently working hard in this 'City of Gentle People' to restore internet service by Saturday at 12nn, or possibly even sooner in the morning.
Converge fiber internet users in Dumaguete City and surrounding areas experienced significant disruptions as mentioned above due to the impact of STS 'Kristine'. Fortunately, the fiber internet services were resumed back online, right here in this city on Saturday morning at 7:25am.
For the affected areas in northeast and central Luzon, Converge technicians are working diligently to gradually restore fiber internet service over the weekend hours. As part of a new partnership, 'SkyTruFiber' customers can expect improvements in connectivity as repair efforts continue.

Manjuyod White Sandbar is located in the North Bais Bay of Negros Oriental and has been dubbed the "Maldives of the Philippines" because of its spotless whitesand. The whole sandbar stretches for seven kilometers and is best seen during the low tide. When the tide is high, the sandbar disappears under the waves and makes the native wooden houses here look like they're floating on water.
Last sunday it was June 2, 2024 when my niece decided to celebrate her birthday to sandbar. So I and my relatives were very excited because it was our 2nd time to go there. We stayed sandbar for an hour to eat delicious seafoods and take pictures.
Another popular attraction here is dolphin watching as pods of dolphins are known to swim by the sandbar when the conditions are right. Aside from taking a stroll on the sandbar and watching dolphins, you can snorkel and ride a banana boat.
According to local boatmen, the dolphins around the Manjuyod Sandbar and Tanon Strait normally appear in the morning hours just after sunrise. And we were so lucky to see a lot of them during their playtime. What an AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!

Is this for real?
Yessir! 😄
It's 100% legit!
My friends (fellow wanderlusters) and I went for a delightful vacation in Manjuyod in Bais, Negros Oriental.
We frolic on the white sandbar, ate 100 coconuts, and did yoga poses with awesome Japanese students. 😀
Watch the video to learn more.
