All your posts abt Trigun has me wanting to watch/read it now. But like ... How much damage should I expect to recieve from this? Is it Evangelion level type of hurt or what? Is it tragic, traumatic, and homosexual(even just enough to feed my gay brain)? Pls advise.
Yes, there's MUCH emotional damage, but in a good way. That completely devastates and traumatizes you, then heals you with a genuinely hopeful message of love & peace. :'3 (So don't worry, bc despite all the fucked up tragedies and suffering, the ending is still a bittersweet happy one.) The manga is one of those gems that will probably change your life~ and/or go insane with the Feels, as I don't think I've seen any fan who has come out of it emotionally stable or 'ok' 8'D. Extremely worth it, but it's a hard seinen with some pretty difficult/heavy content for some to stomach. And oh yes, from my ace eyes, it was quite disastrously bi too (nothing explicit, but more...Victorian style longing for solace that's subtle/artful in a way I like) - swinging both ways that were meaningful, poignant, and important to the mc in different ways (so yes, Vash has two hands for Wolfwood & Meryl). However, as a fair warning, one of them is perpetually doomed by the narrative, which made me mentally bluescreen when [redacted] happened, that I probably still haven't recovered from to fully process it - so I'll just say, cherish it while it lasts. :')) And don't ignore the women also, because they rock~
Also fyi, the old 98 anime, manga, and new anime are all different tellings of the story. :O So to introduce yourself and get the most out of all the lore, trying it out in release order is probably what I'd recommend (as that's what I did, tho I grew up with the old anime-eng dub first as a kid too.) Note that the old anime has a lot more filler/humorous moments (as it was made before the manga finished, and they characterized the mc as a bit of a skirt-chaser for some outdated gags, when he's not Like That in the actual manga and new series at all, so just Be Aware that that's a thing you can ignore) so it tells a different story than what the manga becomes, but to slowly introduce you to [The Pain] that happens around mid-way, the old anime can 'gently' prepare you for the meat of the manga, because oh, it goes way harder than anything the old anime showed. :'3
And the current Stampede anime is utilizing manga-only endgame elements/lore in new ways that are fun to catch if you've already read the manga too (and I'd say in vibe it's much closer/accurate to the manga's too, meaning there's not much relation it has to the old anime, so you can safely separate them), but just don't expect the new anime to be exactly like the other two either, as it's still its own separate thing - so that means, all in all, Trigun is 'holy shit 3 cakes!' worth of content to enjoy~
#trigun#anonymous#replies#the amount of content may be overwhelming but it's worth it#you can find the manga's dark horse tl at manga4life/mangasee123 or look for the overhaul fan tl#and you can easily get BOTH anime's dubs/subs from animesuge.to

yeah capitalism and economics isnt really addressed at all, its all about the nobility, i suppose maybe in the yuumori universe the industrial revolution hasnt started yet, though they do have technology and stuff. but like you said, if they go on from this point to there, thered be that sort of class inequality developing instead. i dunno, maybe itll be brought up in part two of the manga, surely thatll have to be about the same theme of inequality at least a bit
as for the violence, in the manga the guy on the noactic is some random person. i think the impression i got is that they let him die instead of intervening but ot hadnt been in the priginal plan. also alberts bio family werent good people, but neither did they actually murder anyone, and in the manga their servents died in the fire too. though that is when theyre all still kids. and youre right that he definitely tries to avoid innocent people dying as much as possible, i think the idea is that sometimes its unavoidable if he wants to acheive his plans.
which shows i think, similar to the rochefort stuff (as completely inaccurate to actual history as it is i think it makes more sense to view it through the lense of yuumori as irrelevent to the real worl situation) that william prioritises the collective good of society over that of the individual, whether thats himself or other people. i think the jack the ripper case shows both that he still has limits though over how far hell go, but also that he wont accept a system that sacrifices some parts of society in favour of others. which is a bit of a contradiction, but i think thats part of his character, like how he believes he has to die, and then by the end he does the same sort of stuff without killing people
the collective good of society thing is sort of similar to socialism, though also considering the series is from japan, and this part of asia is generally considered to have more collectivist thinking, even when it isnt very socialist (for example in the way buisiness is treated). though im still not really familiar with japanese political thinking at all. the fact it was made in japan and not the uk or somewhere else definitely has a big part in how its all portrayed though i think
but anyway, william clearly sees social cohesion as so important, hes not willing to risk the chaos and potential negative consequences of a revolution (in the late 19th c he wouldve had the british french and american revolutions, maybe not others, but hed be smart enough to know even without those that a revolutions probably not going to go well, and he himself is proof that violence generally leads to more violence, his plan being to kill himself to end that cycle). i suppose communism definitely sees social cohesion as important, but definitely more so in stalinism than marxism as a way to control the population, which isnt exactly what williams after. and communism also sees the bourgeoisie as the enemy, i think the idea is to get rid of them and make them workers instead? whereas william doesnt really seem to want to get rid of the existence of the nobility completely. which is partly why i think i wouldnt consider him far left revolutionary, more like centre left, possibly even more moderate if he was in todays society not victorian times. like he doesnt seem to want to overturn society completely. his methods are extreme, but even there theres a lot of restraint with what he isnt willing to do
Was William from Moriarty the Patriot socialist?
During the manga and the anime he very clearly believed that the class system is a curse upon the British empire, that change must happen and that it is extremely unfair for the 2%, the upper classes, the Bourgeois be spending all their life in luxury whole the lower class, the Proletariat work all day to feed their families.
Although it is true that that way of thinking can be found in socialism, there are some things that he seems to disagree with in that ideology. In the Jack the Ripper arc, William finds out that there is no Jack the Ripper, an organization is making a villain to try and stir up a revolution between the Proletariat and the Bourgeois.
That, coincidently is the whole idea of Socialism, Communism and Marxism, a Proletariat revolution. He is against that. If he wanted a Proletariat revolution, he would just let that happen, but he didn't.
He tried to stop that from happening. William doesn't completely agree with Socialism because Socialism, Communism, Marxism ect is really violent. Innocent lives will be lost. But wouldn't that backfire with his final plan? He started killing people and setting fires to become a common enemy.
There is a big difference between the revolution and what he did. His plan, was making him a common enemy, just like Maximilien Robespierre, so that the two classes could put aside those differences. While a revolution wants one class against eachother, he wanted all of the people together.
That I believe is the biggest difference. He doesn't want to eat the rich like socialist want, he doesn't believe if someone is rich he is inherently evil. After all, people are born into wealth, just like people are born into homelessness.
So in conclusion, no. He isn't a socialist or communist. He believes in some ideas of Socialism but he despises the violence of the revolution socialism wants. The red in his eyes isn't for the Soviet Flag (fortunately since that would be time inaccurate)
But that's just a theory,
An anime theory
Thanks for reading.
It feels so good to rant about communism in anime.
#sorry this is just totally incoherent rambling i really didnt mean to make it that long#yeah its fun to discuss this stuff though#i havent been doing any of politics in uni lately so i havent thought about politics much at all but talking about anime politics#also yeah if you want to be mutuals#also if you dont mind pirating and reading the manga online#you can read it in english on manga4life and rawkuma for japanese#i think the remains is at least partly translated on mangadex#i know not everyone wants to read it that way though#moriarty the patriot

Saw your post about paying to read Witch Hat Atelier. No one should ever have to pay for anything so when ever a new chapter comes out just go here -> manga4life(.)com/manga/Tongari-Booshi-No-Atorie. Piracy gang rise up.
i've been finding new witch hat chapters eventually available on mangasee123 (after, yeah, they stopped putting scanlations on the old website i was using).
wig thanks y'all. ultimately i don't mind paying a few bucks for some chapters the legit way every now and then but also ultimately id rather spend that money on physical volumes than digital releases

An Ajin Manga Review: Discussing the Art
Part 1: Art Style in Relation to Storytelling
I entered this manga not knowing the first thing about it. I was scrolling through Manga4life after catching up on Hunter x Hunter and came across Ajin on the highest rated filter. I read through the comments and saw the praises for the story. I was collecting a number of different titles to read through and chose Ajin to begin my series of readings.
Why did I choose Ajin as a starter? What stood out to me about Ajin was its art. For many mangaka, the art begins somewhat immature and the artist hones their skills throughout the serialization. For example, there's a noticeable change in Tokyo Ghoul, Bleach, Naruto, HxH, etc. Ajin began with a recognizably polished art style thanks to Gamon Sakurai. The lines were confident and the scenes were already challenging in a way a veteran artist might be expected to execute. I was grabbed immediately!
These two pages are both from the first chapter. Note the details on the folds of clothes, the sneakers, the officer's ear, and his uniform even. I have not come across many manga who's art begins with dramatic detail in the most mundane things such as clothing, at least not in such a way. I'm reminded of how in sports manga, the mangakas take a lot of time to detail a player's shoes, because those have importance to the sport itself.
To clarify, Ajin still went through a maturity in its art. Obviously, there was a change when the original writer Tsuina Miura left. With Sakurai having more control over the story, it's clear his change in story affected the characters and art style as well. For example, Kei Nagai goes from a rounder more doe-like appearance to sharper and straighter lines. His original design fit alongside his character portrayal as an innocent kid unfit for the severity of the story's premise; Kei was perhaps meant to be pitied in the original story.
After Sakurai became the writer, Kei changed into an untrustworthy character who could shift personalities, utilizing both the younger look of the first volume, and the more confident and mature appearance Sakurai had created. Sakurai says that after volume 1, he "tried to move the art gradually closer to [his] own style" (ch.83, pg. 82). I recognize Kei's purposeful tonal changes as a creative method to transition the manga into Sakurai's own style and design changes that he had decided for the story.
Below, this series of pages illustrate first the differences between Kei in volume one and two. Then, the ways Sakurai uses both the softer and sharper designs to convey a transition of his character.
Finally, in chapter seventeen, page seven, Sakurai commits to the shift and reveals this new design and characterization to be the "real" Kei all along. Nakano comes to the same realization as the reader.
Sakurai used Kei's earlier more pitiful appearance to show Kei's softer mask that he wore to hide his true, more cold and calculative nature. After the moment between Nakano and Kei, the later design remains more consistent and total. Personally, I enjoy the later design more than the first and what it implied for the story. Along with a change in Kei's character was a change to the story's tone as well. Sato became more devious, and so did Kei. These character changes, in a way, foreshadowed the extremes in which the plot would take as well.
Though, still I would have enjoyed the closer relationship that was foreshadowed for Kei and Kai. I mean, look at these pages and tell me you don't see a budding homoerotic romance on the rise!
To round out my thoughts, I enjoyed the first premise, but overall enjoyed the second premise even more. In the next review, I'll dissect Sato's character and how he was handled from an authorial point of view. I just needed to discuss the art style change and what it implied for the story, especially Kei, as he plays an important role for the overall tone of the story.

Is there any way where I can see the small redraws? For example in volume 19, in cubari Garou’s “im a monster” panel is the old one, and I would like to see all other panels that had a change<\3
Hmm…there’s no single one place, so your best bet might be to compare the volume changes yourself between different sites that upload either the fan translation (cubari archive - where the reddit group uploads first and keeps things updated) vs the official viz volumes (manga4life, mangasee123, etc - where all older chs are replaced by the published eng vols as they’re released in bulk) then you can see all those redrawn details as you go. A slow (tedious) but sure way to find exactly what you want, whether it’s seeing the updated art or the translation differences.
Lately, several reddit users even make dedicated threads to report all those little vol redraws (cause there are Many!) the first time they’re spotted in japanese, so you can even search per vol on the subreddit for a good handful of results.
I understand it’s tough to find everything though, because many of the older fan chs were lost to site purges (and that’s why the cubari archive now exists, to salvage what was left, and to reliably host the rest) and because so many chs have been wholly redrawn that not even the official viz site (not recommended) can keep up with Murata! But many fans share your same sentiment to see all those changed details for fun, and will be glad to help you out or point you in the right direction wherever you go, so best of luck out there!
#opm#anonymous#replies#results are def out there but if you want to get down into the nitty gritty details as you read#then comparing the fan tls vs the published viz vols on diff sites are your best bet#fans have posted changes on recently released vols but not so on older vols since a lot of older data was lost#bottom line - we understand and plenty of fans will love to help you out :’D
