one thing i love about idol music is that every group or series, no matter the concept, has the occasional, like, alternate universe tragedy ballad. historical japanese inspired angst ballad, angst ballad that implies the lover was an alien who’s now light years away, angst ballad about trying to find their way in a world brought to ruin...and they’re always EXTREMELY earnest and EXTREMELY intense and EXTREMELY dramatic, and high-energy, and the people belting them out are the same idol voice actresses who were singing about cake and dreams 10 minutes ago. usually in the same costumes at lives because they didn’t have time for a change. idol angst is the shadow king of the genre

#i guess this shows up in kpop too with like dreamcatcher and gfriend #cry for me by twice #etc #by dreamcatcher's entire discography gets compared to anime so i'm gonna call it an anime thing anyway #NO BUT LITERALLY teardrops from bandori just came up on shuffle #and like roselia etc have WAY more dramatic edgy ballads but THIS is random out of nowhere angst too #some of the songs i consider to be the backbone of this genre:#summer tears diary from aikatsu #datte datte aa mujou #sky journey #beyond the bottom from wug #glass doll from aikatsu - absolutely glass doll from aikatsu #manatsu wa dare no mono...you get the gist #love it. love it! they're always so good too #personal
