state of the halfway point: thinking about tropre and zenkai so far
tropical rouge: charming show. school club theme is it’s best element, i love how much they’ve committed to it. good girls, with a very solid comedic group dynamic, play off of each other well enough to have fun with a variety of scenarios. extremely endearing villain family! sometimes its nice to have a villain group in precure that just likes each other for a change, rooting for them. and laura’s arc was the peak of the show so far. one monarchist allowed.
that said, deeefinitely reaching a point where it seems to be drifting a little, in need of some development. probably by making the extra cure an established character and putting laura’s cure development Before her debut, the section of episodes in the middle of the show that would normally be ‘everyone has adventures with the new teammate’ has been... just kinda chill, general stuff! which is fine, but there’s not really any plot momentum right now
could also really use some more focused development for the cures that arent the main duo, too. minori’s gotten some, asuka we’ve been waiting for the obvious other boot to drop for Awhile now, and sango,,, she’s dying out there. every friend group needs one Boring girl (affectionate) i guess :’). (also, some episodes about individual duo relationships that Arent laura and manatsu would be welcome too!)
(that said, to complement sandwich, i do think that tropre has been good at steadily providing Incidental Character Details along the way, like what we learned about asuka’s dad last ep. they definitely feel Characterful, even if i want a deeper dive soon!)
overall: having a Good Time, but im not sure that the element that would push it over the top for me has shown up yet. looking forward to the back half :)
zenkai: its perfect. retrospective over
