“So…” John groaned, slumping against a cracked brick wall. Blood trickled from a cut near his hairline, and ash streaked his jaw like war paint. He held up what was left of his shield — warped, twisted, folded . “What now? Because we just got annihilated.”
“No shit,” Ava muttered, spitting dust from her mouth and flicking a burned scrap of fabric from her sleeve. Her split lip had swollen, and she could feel bruises blooming across her ribs. “I say every man for themselves. Bob’s gone full horror movie. This was fun — goodbye.”
She turned into the lingering smoke, already half-vanished — until Yelena’s voice cut through like a knife.
“We can’t leave him.”
Ava stopped, shoulders stiff. “Leave who? That wasn’t Bob back there. That was... I don’t even know what that was.” She turned, folding her arms. “Definitely not the guy who saved us.”
“No,” Yelena said, voice tight. “But he’s still in there. Somewhere.”
“Unless one of you has a secret anti-god laser in your back pocket,” Ava snapped, “what exactly is your plan?”
“I don’t have one yet,” Yelena admitted, stepping forward anyway. “But we’re not leaving him. Not like this.”
Alexei groaned and collapsed dramatically onto a half-shattered bench, which cracked under his weight. “If we go back in there, I need... at least ten minutes. And a cortisone shot. Maybe a priest.” He waved a hand vaguely. “Let me stretch, drink some water, and then we finish him.”
“We’re not finishing him,” Yelena snapped, rounding on him. “We’re going to help him.”
“Oh sure,” Ava muttered. “We’ll just hug the powers out of him.”
“He ripped Bucky’s arm off like it was a doll’s toy,” Alexei added. “We go in like this, we die.”
“It’s fine,” Bucky muttered as he calmly snapped the vibranium prosthetic back into place with a click. “Happens more than you think.”
John held up his bent shield, his face still a mix of shock and mild heartbreak. “He folded it. I mean—folded it. Like paper. Do you know what kind of force it takes to bend this thing?”
Ava raised a brow. “So… not vibranium?”
“It’s vibranium-adjacent,” John muttered defensively.
Yelena didn’t even look at him. “Maybe if it was actual vibranium, it wouldn’t look like a gas station burrito.”
Alexei lit up. “I could go for a burrito. Or a taco. The ones with the cheese in the middle. Mmm. I want that now.”
John groaned. “Focus! We got curb-stomped by Bob! Bob! The shy nerdy one!"
“Yeah,” Ava said quietly, brushing ash from her arm. “He’s not shy or nerdy anymore.”
That shut them all up.
Bucky exhaled. They were beat to hell, and morale was tanking fast. But more than that, they were scared. And for good reason.
He looked at them — bruised, dirty, half-limping, yet still bickering like middle schoolers on a broken field trip — and made a decision he was definitely going to regret.
“There’s a place we can crash. It’s not far. We lay low, regroup. Heal. Then we figure out what the hell to do.”
Yelena eyed him suspiciously. “Where?”
He didn’t answer. Just turned and started walking.
The group hesitated, then followed — slow and shuffling.
A few blocks in, Ava broke the silence again, jabbing a thumb at John’s mangled shield. “So… can’t you, like, unfold it? You’ve got super strength, right?”
“I have super strength,” John snapped. “Not unfold-a-shield-bent-by-a-living-deity strength. It’s toast.”
Alexei squinted. “Is that, like… covered under warranty? Or do you have to mail it back?”
John gave him a deadpan look. “Do I look like I kept a receipt?”
“And you—” he pointed at Ava “—Ghost. Can you even do anything right now or are you just brooding professionally?”
Ava raised her brow. “I walked through a wall and saved your sorry ass five hours ago.”
“She literally did,” Yelena added, smirking.
“I-oh. Right. I forgot,” John said, flustered. “In my defense, I was the one who cut the power so she could walk through the wall.”
“How convenient,” Ava said flatly.
Their argument began escalating again — nonsense mixed with sarcasm, interrupted only by Alexei trying to convince someone to buy him tacos — until Bucky turned sharply on his heel.
“Enough.” His voice was low, tired, and just sharp enough to cut through the noise. “We’re almost there. If you keep yelling, she’s not going to open the door.”
They all stopped short.
“She?” they echoed, suspicious in unison.
“Yes. She. No more questions.” He resumed walking, jaw clenched.
Yelena sidled up next to him, grinning like a cat. “Is this a she-she, or a capital-She situation?”
“I’m not answering that.”
Alexei leaned toward John with a conspiratorial whisper. “Is she a friend-friend or a friendly friend?”
John nodded sagely. “I bet she’s way out of his league.”
“Maybe she's his girlfriend,” Yelena offered with a shrug.
“Highly doubtful,” Ava muttered.
“She’s not my—” Bucky stopped mid-sentence, face twitching. “Just... shut up. All of you. Or I will let Bob use you as a jump rope.”
They finally quieted.
The townhouse appeared as they turned the corner. It was small, tucked between a dry cleaner and an old record shop. String lights framed the little balcony, and a warm golden glow spilled from the upstairs window. Too calm. Too normal. It looked like the kind of place where people had tea and talked about their feelings — not where half-dead super-soldiers crawled in to sleep off a cosmic ass-kicking.
Bucky stopped in front of the door, hesitating. His jaw tightened as he raised his fist, his metal fist hovering before he knocked.
He hated this.
He hated that he’d brought them here — hated the pit growing in his stomach — hated that this was the only safe place he could think of. She hadn’t seen him in almost a year. Not since they separated. And now he was dragging a human dumpster fire of a team to her doorstep.
Behind him, the others bickered in hushed tones.
“Does she cook?” “I hope she has a comfy couch.” “If she has tea, I’ll marry her.”
Bucky closed his eyes. Just for a second.
He almost turned around — almost told them it was a bad idea and they should just sleep in a sewer.
But then he heard footsteps approaching the door.
Too late.
The door creaked open slowly, and there you were.
Your eyes landed on Bucky first — bruised, dirt-streaked, arm slightly disjointed, and he was holding his ribs with one hand.
“Bucky,” you breathed, barely above a whisper. Your gaze swept across him, and the flicker of worry that crossed your face was brief, but real.
Then it was gone.
“What do you want?” you asked. Not cold exactly, but not welcoming either. Just guarded.
Bucky looked down for a moment. His voice, when it came, was low. Worn. “I know I’m the last person you wanna see right now. But we need your help.”
“I don’t play superhero anymore,” you replied, arms folding as you leaned slightly against the doorframe.
“I know,” he said quickly, “I’m not asking you to suit up or anything. We just need a place to lay low. For a night. Maybe two. We got our asses handed to us like ten minutes ago.” He gestured to the group behind him, and your eyes drifted over the chaos on your porch.
“Please, doll,” he added, quieter now. “I wouldn’t have come if I had any other option.”
The silence stretched between you. He held your gaze, waiting — wounded pride barely masked beneath the plea.
Finally, you sighed, the tension in your shoulders softening. Without a word, you stepped aside and opened the door wider.
“Come in before the neighbors start watching.”
The team shuffled in, dragging in a trail of soot, broken egos, and exhaustion. Bucky paused as he stepped through, eyes flicking to the living room. It looked exactly like he remembered — warm, soft lighting, a shelf cluttered with books and candles. Homey. Safe.
Except the framed photos of you two were gone. Replaced by art. Abstract pieces. Beautiful, distant things.
Then something soft brushed against his leg.
He glanced down and froze.
A pristine white cat was weaving through his boots, its tail flicking with recognition. His expression shifted—stunned, tender.
“Hey, Alpine,” he murmured, crouching carefully. “Hi, pretty girl. I missed you.”
She meowed softly and launched into his arms, immediately purring as she burrowed into his chest. He cradled her like porcelain, one hand smoothing over her fur.
You watched from the kitchen threshold. You and Bucky had agreed Alpine would stay with you — your life was stable, his wasn’t. It had made sense. But it hadn’t been easy.
Behind Bucky, the team just… stared.
“Are you seeing this?” John whispered to Yelena.
Ava elbowed him without even looking. “Shut up.”
It was a surreal image: The Winter Soldier, dusty and battle-worn, cuddling a white fluffball like it was the most natural thing in the world.
You took in the rest of them. They were strangers, mostly. Strangers who looked like they'd crawled out of a battlefield and onto your rug.
The blonde woman leaned against the wall like it was the only thing keeping her standing. The woman in the sleek suit by the door looked cool and dangerous in equal measure. Then there was the massive man in red. He smiled and gave a little wave when your eyes met. And then there was the guy with the folded shield and the “punch-me” face.
Bucky nodded toward the group. “Uh, yeah. That’s Yelena, Ava, Alexei, and... that’s John.”
They all gave awkward waves. Alexei’s was the most enthusiastic.
You nodded politely. “I’m Y/N. Nice to meet you.”
They all looked like they were one nudge away from collapsing.
“Can I get you anything to drink?” you offered.
“Water, please,” Yelena said quickly, her voice scratchy.
John raised his hand like a kid in class. “Same.”
Ava glanced at you, almost apologetic. “Do you have tea?”
“Sure. What kind?”
“Anything.”
You turned to Alexei.
“Do you have anything… stronger?” he asked, hopeful.
“How strong?”
“Very strong.”
You smirked. “Got it.” Then disappeared into the kitchen.
The moment you were out of sight, all heads turned to Bucky — still petting Alpine, who had zero plans to move.
“So…” Yelena drawled. “You and her?”
Bucky tensed like someone lit a fuse in his spine.
“Don’t,” he muttered.
John leaned closer to Ava. “There’s definitely history here. Did you see the way she looked at him?”
“She also looked like she wanted to slam the door,” Ava replied.
“She likes him,” Alexei declared confidently. “There is affection. And the cat approved. Cats never lie.”
Bucky glared at all of them. “If you value your limbs, you’ll stop talking.”
Yelena held up both hands, grinning. “Okay, okay. No shipping the grumpy soldier. Got it.”
A few moments later, you returned balancing a tray with glasses, a mug of tea, and a tumbler of something amber.
“Bucky, seriously?” you said, seeing them all still hovering like awkward ghosts. “You could’ve told them to sit down.”
He shrugged, still holding the cat like a teddy bear. “Didn’t want to break anything.”
You waved the team toward the couches. “Please. Make yourselves at home.”
John and Yelena nearly collapsed into opposite ends of the same couch. Ava leaned against a windowsill, blowing gently on her tea. Alexei sniffed his drink, took a sip, then sat upright.
“You, my dear, are an angel,” he declared reverently. “Is this whiskey?”
“Only the best for unexpected guests,” you replied dryly. “I was meal-prepping earlier,” you added, glancing over your shoulder. “I’ve got a big pot of soup if anyone’s hungry. Showers are down the hall. Towels are in the closet. Clean shirts in the basket.”
There was a beat of stunned silence.
“Soup would be heavenly,” John mumbled, eyes already closing.
You gave a small smile and turned toward the kitchen again.
Bucky hesitated, gently placing Alpine down as she curled onto a throw pillow. Then he followed you, slow and quiet.
You were setting down a basket of warm dinner rolls on the table when you felt the shift in the room. You didn’t have to look to know who it was.
Still, you glanced over your shoulder. Bucky stood quietly near the doorway, half-shadowed by the dim kitchen light, his hands shoved in his pockets, posture stiff like he hadn’t quite decided if he should be there.
“Do you need anything?” you asked, keeping your voice steady. The soup was already simmering; your hands moved automatically to the ladle.
He offered a faint smile — the kind that didn't reach his eyes. “Thanks for letting us crash here.”
You nodded, focusing on the steam rising from the pot instead of the way your chest clenched. “You all looked like hell. Someone had to be decent.”
“Look, Y/N—”
“Bucky, don’t,” you said quickly, sharper than you meant to. You turned to face him fully, hands still holding the ladle. “You don’t have to say anything. I know why you're here. Nearest safe house. Not personal. It’s fine. Really.”
He hesitated, jaw tightening before giving a slow nod. “We’ll be out of your hair soon. Just need some rest.”
“That's fine.” You turned back to fill the bowls. “Alpine misses you.”
His voice was softer this time. “I miss her too.”
You didn't answer right away. But when the bowls were full and the bread was out, you called out toward the hallway.
“Lunch.”
A few thuds and grunts later, the rest of the group shuffled in like survivors of a disaster movie. Everyone looked slightly cleaner than when they arrived — but still bruised, bandaged, and about ten seconds from passing out.
Everyone except Bucky, who instinctively sat down in the seat next to yours.
Yelena took a spot across the table, her hands wrapped around her water. Ava perched at the end, still sipping her tea slowly. Alexei helped himself to three rolls before anyone else had time to blink.
John hovered awkwardly before finally taking a seat beside Alexei, clearly not wanting to be anywhere near Yelena again after their last round of bickering.
“And then—oh! Oh! Bob folded his shield like a freakin’ taco,” Alexei said mid-chew, nearly choking from laughter. “Just snapped it like paper!”
Yelena chuckled. Even Ava cracked a smirk.
John looked personally offended. “It’s not that funny.”
“And then—wait for it—he ripped off Bucky’s arm.” Alexei nearly doubled over at the memory.
Your spoon paused halfway to your mouth. You turned your head so fast toward Bucky, it made your hair sway.
Bucky rolled his eyes at Alexei, but when he caught your expression — real concern flickering beneath practiced calm — his demeanor softened.
“It’s fine,” he said gently, lifting the vibranium arm a little. “Reattached it without a problem.”
“Are you sure?” You were already reaching out, ignoring the way your hand trembled just slightly. You turned his arm gently, inspecting the seam where metal met flesh, eyes scanning for dents or stress damage. “Did you check everything out?”
“I’m okay,” he said, holding your gaze. You gave him a look that said you weren’t convinced. So he did something he hadn’t done in a long time. He squeezed your hand. “I promise. I’m okay.”
His eyes looked at your hand, and something flickered behind them — something like a punch to the gut. It was bare. There was no ring on her finger.
Automatically, he reached up to his chest, fingers ghosting over where the chain should’ve been.
It wasn’t there.
His stomach dropped.
Bucky’s fingers frantically searched under his collar, pulling at his shirt, then dipping into his jacket pocket. Nothing.
No. No no no.
He never took it off. Ever.
His pulse spiked as he started checking every pocket.
“Bucky?” you asked, watching him unravel. “What’s wrong?”
“The chain,” he said hoarsely. “My chain. It’s gone.”
Panic etched across his face.
At the end of the table, Yelena blinked, frowning as she slipped a hand into her coat pocket. She felt the cool weight of something metallic there — something she had shoved away mid-battle and forgotten about.
When she pulled it out, her heart skipped.
It was a chain.
And dangling from it — a simple gold wedding band.
“Holy f—” she whispered, catching herself before the full curse slipped. “Holy shit.”
Everyone turned to look.
Bucky’s head snapped up.
She held the chain in her open palm like it was glowing. “This is yours.”
He surged forward before she could say another word and plucked it from her hand like it was oxygen. His breath shuddered as he slipped it back over his neck, the ring resting once again near his heart.
Relief washed over his features — raw and unfiltered.
Your eyes locked with his.
“You still have it,” you said, voice barely above a whisper.
Your hand brushed your ring finger again, almost absentmindedly.
“I—I…” Bucky swallowed hard, words failing. His throat felt too tight.
Alexei broke the silence like a sledgehammer. “Wait—you’re married?! Congratulations!” he bellowed, raising his glass. “That’s adorable.”
Bucky flinched like he'd been shot.
The silence that followed was very loud.
He looked at you again — the weight of everything unspoken between you crashing back in all at once — then abruptly stood.
He didn’t say anything.
He just left the room, Alpine trailing after him as the others watched, stunned.
“Did I…” Alexei frowned. “Did I say something wrong? Is that not a wedding ring?”
Yelena sighed, rubbing her temple. “We’re gonna need way more soup.”
“Uh… we’re not married anymore,” you whispered, and the air in the room seemed to shift.
Everyone went quiet. You could feel the weight of their stares settle on you like a spotlight, but you didn’t look back. You just stood, heart pounding, and walked out of the room — your feet already knowing where to go.
Of course you knew where he was.
You and Bucky had lived in this house together for two years before everything fell apart. The bones of the place hadn’t changed — not the layout, not the memories buried in each room. And especially not the basement.
You made your way downstairs, the air cooler, quieter. The moment your foot hit the last step, he spoke.
“You kept everything the same,” Bucky said, his voice low but clear. He didn’t even need to turn around to know it was you.
You crossed the room and slowly sat next to him on the old couch, the one you both used to fall asleep on watching bad movies. The cushions were still slightly sunken on his side.
“Of course,” you replied, your voice gentle. “It was our home. It felt wrong moving your things…changing your designs.”
Silence filled the space between you. Not heavy — just full. The muffled sound of the team arguing upstairs drifted down: something about dishes, someone calling someone a jackass.
“They’re a good bunch,” you murmured. “Very entertaining, too.”
Bucky let out a quiet, tired laugh. “Yeah. I know.”
Your eyes drifted to the chain around his neck — barely visible, but there.
“You kept the ring,” you said softly, watching him tense just slightly.
He nodded slowly, the admission coming with a quiet sigh. “Yeah. I did.”
“Why?”
He finally turned to face you, eyes tired but sincere. “It helps me. Grounds me. I didn’t have much left to fight for after Steve left. But then there was you. And that ring… it gave me comfort. Protection, in a weird way. It became my good luck charm. I couldn’t get rid of it after the divorce. I didn’t want to.”
You felt your chest tighten, but you gave him a small, sad smile. “So you’ve been wearing it around your neck this whole time?”
He nodded again, this time more slowly. “Every damn day,” he admitted, dragging a hand through his hair. “I couldn’t take it off. It’s stupid, I know. Makes me look like a fool.”
You shook your head and stood up, walking to the cabinet on the far wall. He watched you with guarded curiosity as you pulled out a small, velvet box and returned to the couch.
“You’re not a fool,” you said gently. You opened the box and held it out to him. “I couldn’t get rid of mine either. Every time I tried, it felt wrong, like throwing away something sacred."
His gaze dropped to the ring in your fingers, and his throat tightened. Slowly, his eyes lifted to meet yours again.
“I really wanted our marriage to work,” he said, the words coming out like a confession.
“I know you did.”
“I’m really sorry, Y/N.”
“I know you are.” You reached for his hand and held it. It still felt the same — steady, calloused, familiar. “You needed to find yourself, Buck. I should’ve understood. Everything was changing so fast. Steve died. Sam had the shield. Walker was Captain America for a minute. And then… you got into politics. You’re actually a congressman now.”
He let out a breath that was half-scoff, half-laugh.
“I couldn’t keep up,” you continued. “And that was on me.”
“No. It was on me,” he said firmly. “I didn’t prioritize your feelings. I kept shutting you out — thinking I was protecting you. You were right to divorce me. I wasn’t a good husband.”
You looked at him — really looked at him — and shook your head.
“Bucky, no. You were an amazing husband. You just had things to work through. And I pushed myself aside instead of speaking up.”
You leaned in and wrapped your arms around him. The embrace felt effortless. Like no time had passed.
His arms went around you instantly, like they never forgot how.
“I’m also sorry,” you whispered.
Bucky’s laugh was soft and bitter. “What the hell happened to us?”
“I don’t really know,” you said, your voice muffled against his chest. “But I missed you.”
“I missed you more.” He pressed his face into your shoulder, inhaling like he needed the scent of you to survive. Alpine purred softly at your feet, curling between your legs.
And for a while, it was enough.
Peaceful. Quiet. Just the two of you and the cat you shared, back in a place that still remembered love.
And then—
CRASH.
You both jumped slightly at the loud clatter upstairs.
“Did you seriously just break their bowl?” John’s voice rang out, horrified.
“Well, if you think you can do better, then help me wash the dishes, Walker!” Ava snapped back.
You giggled, forehead still resting against Bucky’s shoulder. “We should go before they break more of our dishes.”
He smiled — a real one, one that reached his eyes. It lit up something in him when you said our. He tightened his hold. “A few more minutes. They’ll survive.”
You didn’t argue.
And without meaning to, both of you drifted off, curled into each other like no time had passed at all.
********
“This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.”
“Shut up, Alexei. You’re being too loud.”
“We should wake him up, though. We haven’t even talked strategy.”
“We can’t. Look at them.”
“They look like a cute, happy family.”
“We should take a picture.”
The shutter sound was loud in the quiet room, with the flash blinding all of them.
Bucky blinked awake, eyes adjusting slowly. There was warmth on his lap — Alpine, purring softly. And in his arms, still tucked close, was you.
For a second, he didn’t move.
This was what peace felt like. This was home.
“You woke him up,” Yelena hissed. “Seriously, Dad, turn off the flash and the sound!”
Bucky looked at them — bleary-eyed and still half-asleep — and his expression dropped into something flat and dangerous.
“I’m going to give you ten seconds to leave,” he said calmly, voice low and sharp as a blade. “And if you don’t… Bob will be the least of your problems.”
The team scrambled out of the room like they’d seen a ghost.
He sighed, then looked back down at you — just as you stirred.
You blinked yourself awake slowly, eyes meeting his. He braced himself, just for a second, wondering if you’d pull away. Regret it. Pretend none of it happened.
But you didn’t.
You just smiled sleepily, and snuggled closer.
“Is everything okay?” you murmured, reaching over to pat Alpine, who purred louder.
“Everything’s just perfect,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
And for once, maybe for the first time in forever, Bucky believed that was true.

PART 1 ⏤ PART 2 ⏤ PART 3
Tumblr media
You make a deal with the devil.
Simon was right, as much as you don’t want to admit it. You cannot fight your omega. She is stupid, and she is careless, but she controls some of the parts of you that you have never been able to reach. She can kill you with it. You’ve heard of these kinds of things, the places omegas can take you—a spiral so far into yourself, that the only protection your brain has for itself is to turn off.
Brain-dead. No signal. In an effort to conserve life, it turns itself off, but it doesn’t think about the fact that there will be no one there to turn itself back on. In the fight to save itself, it self-destructs, and there is nothing to do but cut the cord.
She can do that to you, if she really wanted to. Feral enough, she can tie a noose around your neck and pull it, and you will have no choice but to fall into yourself. You cannot fight her, but you cannot love her either; so you make a deal.
If she sweetens her scent to Simon’s pack, you will let Simon in. You won’t fight the ticking timer in your head. You’ll let yourself relax. You’ll give her the control to let herself indulge, since you never have before, and all she has to do is make sure every one of those alphas are at your heel. She needs to be good—she can’t half-ass this kind of thing. You need a leash around each of their necks, and you need it to cut off their oxygen when you pull on it. If someone gets loose, you’ll find a way to suffocate her for good. You swear it, promise it, tell her you’re going to drown her even if it drowns you, too—
I can do it, I can do it, I can do it.
Eager little thing, she is. Sweet as honey, but deadly like poison. She’s a carnivorous plant, and ever since you stopped taking your meds, her roots have grown into you—attaching to your veins, tainting your blood, weaving itself into your brain stem like a cancerous cell. You won’t let her take it all. If she gives you a little, you’ll give, too, and that is how the balance can be kept.
You’ll make a man-eater out of her. You think she’ll prefer the taste, and perhaps it will dull the sharpness of her teeth when they sink back into you again.
She lets go of you for now. When you feel her teeth pull back from behind your eyes, you’re gasping for breath, and there is a great weight hanging over your back. You’re dragging someone along with you, leaving behind a trail of blood and hard bootprints, and you can feel the adrenaline that’s been keeping you going slowly start to melt away. You have a pounding headache. There’s something in your mouth that tastes rotten. There’s something that you’re carrying that you’re going to drop any moment as your muscles give out on you.
You smell him before anything else. The stench of him hits your nose so hard that you flinch. You cough, spit dripping from your mouth, and you breathe a mouthful of his pain and his anger. It stings, his scent, but your omega recognizes him enough that you find it in yourself to keep your feet going as you hold him up with a heavy arm around your shoulders.
“Kitty.”
“It’s…I-I got it, Simon. Just hold onto me. We’re almost there.”
Your eyes water with relief when you see Johnny’s terrible hair and Gaz’s dark eyes. Their faces fall in tandem, and you cry with exhaustion when Gaz slings Simon’s other arm around him and grunts as he takes the excruciating weight off of you. You fall, your knees giving out, but just before you hit the ground, Johnny’s got his big arms around your waist, and he’s pulling you back onto your feet. You dig your nails into his forearms, finding your footing, and you lean back against him as you watch Gaz get Simon onto his back so he look at the blood that still wets his mask.
You don’t really remember making it back to the plane. Every time you blinked, the setting was new. Your nose buried in Johnny’s neck—shhh, it’s alright, bonnie, he’s right here, we’re here. Your hands finding Simon’s, squeezing, not stopping to cry until he squeezed back. The whir of a helicopter. The gravel beneath your feet, kicking up with all the boots, dust in your nose. A ramp closing behind you, and then the constant whir of the jet engine. Johnny drags you to sit, and you can still taste blood in your mouth.
Who’s the man-eater?
When you open your mouth and reach in, you pick out something stringy from between your teeth. With a tremble to your bottom lip, you realize it’s flesh. Viscera and muscle, blood and skin, flooded into the crooks of your mouth and notched between your molars, against your gums. Your vision goes blurry, and you realize it’s just more tears when they fall warm and salty down your face. You taste old pennies as it carries blood from between your lips as they come down your cheeks, and you lean forward to spit, splattering wet saliva and dark pink onto the floor of the plane. You cough, wiping your face with the back of your hand, but then your hands shake when you realize they are covered in blood. You look down and see much of the same—your shirt, your jacket, your tact vest, the entire front of your body has splatters of dark red.
“Oh—God—”
You feel sick. It’s all coming up, all of it, you ate something foul, and now you need to be rid of it—
“None o’tha’ now.”
You sob, jerking your head to the voice in front of you. Knelt down, Captain Price is bending to meet your eyes. Your hands tremble, and you shake your head, but he just kisses his teeth and reaches into his vest to retrieve a rag. He unravels it, reaching for your hand, and you give it to him easily as he draws you closer so he can wipe at your face. He uses a canteen to get it wet, and when he wipes your face again, the rag is soaked in red.
You’ve killed before, in some sense, but never in this way. Everything you have ever done in the service has always been tactical and removed—firing a weapon from hundreds of yards away, clicking a button and watching some screen as you blew a building to dust. Even a phone call, you think you made once, and although you weren’t pulling any triggers, the location you gave them would end up on some list somewhere. You never felt good about it, but you didn’t see the aftermath, not up close. You kept your hands physically clean, and in that way, you told yourself that it was acceptable. That you were good.
Forgivable.
It is the first time you see yourself as animal. Sharp teeth, a static mind, driven by aggression and the feeling of a threat. Someone stepped into your space, challenged your territory, and now that your omega has her teeth in you, you couldn’t stop her.
You killed a man.
But he tried to kill mine.
“I did that—” You hiss, and the agony on your face is palpable. It’s in your scent, and it clouds the small plane. You can see the scrunch of John’s face when it hits him head-on, and he shakes his head when you keep talking. Rambling. Babbling about I killed him, I killed him, what did I do—?
“Look at me, Kit,” John says. He says it with his chest, and your omega freezes when she hears the only thing she really understands. You blink, bottom lip still wobbling, but you quiet. When you meet John’s eyes, all you can read is his frustration. He looks tired. He looks doubtful. He looks worried. “What did you do?”
“I killed him.”
That’s right,” John murmurs. “And if you hadn’t, he would’ve killed you.”
His explanation is clinical and matter-of-fact. You aren’t speaking to a man, not a normal one—you’re speaking to Captain John Price, who has enough confirmed kills to make any immediate superior nervous. The only reason John Price is not a rank higher is because that means sitting at a desk, and that just wouldn’t do for a man like this. Not for one this hungry. Not for one with eyes like that and hands that fidget the way they do. There is no way this man understands you; what you have done is what he does before breakfast. Licks his fingers afterwards even, just to savor the way it tastes.
You shake your head, “I mauled him. L-Like an animal, I—”
“You survived,” John explains. He tilts his head to the side, and he sucks you right in. “What the fuck did you think this was, Kit, hmm? Think we don’t get our hands dirty? Think the shit we do is easy, tha’ it? No—look at me.” Your eyes are wild. There’s something terrible going on in your head, and you can’t shake it. Something awful is happening to you. The you that you know is trying to understand how easy it was to do such a horrible thing. The other part of you, the one you’ve been ignoring your whole life, will sleep just fine knowing her mate is alive and well. John snarls a little, and your trembling hands find his vest and hold onto it for stability. You try to ignore the fact that the broadness of his chest dwarfs your hands, but your omega notices.
Your hands curl there, latching on, and while your omega knows this isn’t your alpha, she sighs a little at the feeling of him anyways. Stability, authority, the way he takes control—he feeds her well. Even if you cannot do what’s necessary, she can, and John and his alpha know this feeling well. It’s why he’s still alive. It’s why he’s still here.
Justified murder. Sanctioned killers. The lesser evil. Joining their pack means you are one of them now—does that mean swallowing these half-truths, too?
“You did what you were trained to do. You were backed into a corner, and you used every last weapon you had. You saved yourself, and you saved Simon, and you did exactly what a soldier is supposed to do. Repeat after me—Look at me, Kit! Keep your fuckin’ eyes on me, and repeat after me—I did what I was trained to do.”
You dig your nails into the flesh under his shirt. It barely gives, and John doesn’t flinch. Your eyes on his are so intense. This is a man that has been in your place often, for longer. He wears his experience in his eyes and in the careful movements he makes in the field. There is no hesitance when John Price makes a decision. He’s fought too hard and seen too much to ever do anything with half his heart, half his mind. The lines on his face tell a story—he isn’t this old because he hides, he’s this old because he knows exactly what to do and when to do it. He wears his alpha like armor, and they work together, in parallel, to get each other home.
Your fingers shake a little less when you feel his thick hands resting on your thighs, tugging you just that much closer.
“Say it. That’s a fucking order,” John says again. His scent is warm. It softens your insides. His eyes will never give you the forgiveness you seek, but they will forgive you anyways, and maybe that’s all you really want. Maybe it’s all you really need.
Tell me what I’ve done isn’t wrong. Absolve me. Put your teeth to my neck and tell me that everything I’ve done was going to happen anyways.
“I…” Your voice falters. Your foreheads touch, just for a moment, and your breath comes out with barely even a stutter. “I-I did what…I did what I was trained t-to do.”
“Again.”
“I did…I did what I was trained to do.”
When John stands, your eyes follow. Your head tilts back, and you blink up at him with watery eyes, and there is no mistaking the hand that comes up to cup the side of your face. You look just like the feral thing you fear you are. The cracks of your lips are still dark with blood. It’s still stained along your skin, a thick kind of war paint that you wear apprehensively, but John knows what he sees.
It’s been a long time since he’s had an omega this close. They are distractions. Giving Simon an omega meant needing to accept her into their pack. A pack of four alphas is unusual. No betas, no omegas, just four dog-like alphas that followed each other anywhere. They had an unspoken, silent agreement to keep their pack this way. Betas waste time, and omegas complicate things. They are self-sufficient, John is sure of this fact. They have never needed anyone but each other.
The moment you set foot on base, John felt it—the balance tipping. Simon had seemed indifferent to Kate’s proposition. He had never voiced his desire to claim an omega or to have a mate; his life had been a reflection of how wrong even the most natural of relationships could go, and he was not eager to try it his own way. As soon as you arrived and were tucked into your room, the change in Simon was immediate. You were here, and you would be his mate, and while Simon had never been privy to what it meant to really court an omega, his instincts took over.
John knows why. Nothing in Simon’s life had ever really been his. His entire family was dead, and even his life was not his own—he followed orders. He lived because they allowed him to, and he would die when they told him to die. The simplicity worked for him, and John never questioned that. Having nothing to lose made Simon fearless and smart. He trusted Simon to do what was necessary, and even when Simon knew he was the sacrificial lamb, he never said anything—all that came through on the radio was a curt copy tha’.
Kate gave him something, something soft and pretty, with a bite. Kate mentioned something about her being special, but John is having trouble remembering why. Something about this is the one I can’t have, but it’s white noise in his mind now. He used to think it was about control—if Kate could take you away and give you back, it might give her leverage over Simon, but he knows that’s just a fleeting idea.
No alpha in their pack would let them take you away. Not now. Not anymore. John wasn’t sure before; he had half a mind to tell Simon that this new dynamic wasn’t working, but then he heard your voice breaking over the radio, and then he saw you hauling Simon’s giant body covered in someone else’s blood with nothing but instinct driving you forward. The look in your eyes—he knows what that is, he recognized it as soon as he saw it. Someone tried to take Simon from you, and you did not let that happen. Visceral, that kind of killing. Tormenting. Immutable. It will be with you forever, but so will Simon now.
Just like that, you are accepted. Even John won’t turn you away. Couldn’t. It’s not possible. Fate has fuck-all to do with this kind of pairing.
There is a popular belief that mates are not chosen carefully—when you see them, when you smell them, it is known. The hierarchy of society that is chosen by the presentation of your own self, decided by nothing but your DNA, is divinely driven when it comes to how you pair. Your mate was already decided for you at birth, and you will discover them in your own time, because fate will have it so.
That is a lie. John won’t believe it. Simon certainly will never call this that. Kate propped a door open, and Simon simply decided that yes, he gets to have his cake and eat it, too. The waiting game is over. The chosen misery of not having an omega to knot ends. Simon knows when an opportunity presents itself, and he knows exactly when to take it. It’s pulsing under John’s fingers—a strong pulse you have, the gland just under your ear beating hot and thick under his thumb like it taunts him.
What if he leaned over and sunk his teeth there? What then?
She will never be warm enough. Her food will never be good enough. She’ll always sound distressed. The water in the showers will always be too cold. There are too many lights. She will never have enough pillows, enough blankets, they will forever torture her in a space too small, she’ll never be truly happy. They will always look for the void, for the empty spots, and they will forever try to occupy them. Fill them. Make you happy.
John understands. Maybe even from the moment he met you.
The smell of you. The sight of your doe eyes, your soft skin, the clear distress you were in—fuck, he had forgotten why omegas were kept so far apart on bases like this. Just one whiff, and John fought hard not to break right through his grip on the doorway. Enough to tempt a man; to stuff her away in some box, tuck her somewhere dark, keep her safe, sound, fed, warm, fat, happy, pleasured. A good man would be rightfully tempted by it, even with the claim over you, even with Simon’s scent sticky against your skin.
John’s alpha is not immune to that innate desire. He might not be your mate, but the cry for help is all the same, and so is the itch that his alpha wants to scratch. There is an omega in need—we have to help her.
Looking at you now, he couldn’t stop himself. Those big, wet eyes of yours, the sound of your cries. Your omega is smart. She curls your tears and your whimpers in just a way that makes every alpha in your vicinity stiffen. They all can hear it. They all can hear the clawing of her blunt nails. They all can smell the need to be comforted. Your omega is a magnet, and she’s strong; stronger than John is used to, and he thinks it’s because you don’t know how to control her.
When Simon shuts the door on his room later that evening, John isn’t the only one lingering. He sees their shadows, his sergeants, watching the door until that lock clicks. They all meet eyes, but they say nothing to each other. Perhaps it’s just another unspoken rule.
Not yet. Patience is rewarded.
Simon refused medical, naturally. He slumps onto the floor, back against the wall, and you won’t sit on the bed in your clothes, so you sit down next to him. Your knees wobble a little, and you have to hold onto the wall to sit to keep yourself from falling over as you slide down against it. You lean your head back against the wall, blinking up at the ceiling. There’s a fluorescent light that flickers, making you flinch, and then it goes eerily silent in the room. You feel nothing; it’s blissfully still, only the sounds of barely-there breathing, but then it hits you like a crashing wave. When you start to cry, Simon moves, shaking his head. He huffs, low sounds of disapproval as he shifts next to you.
“I can’t listen to you. Cryin’ like tha’.”
You don’t think he means that. From your peripheral, you can see the way his gloved hands curl into tight fists against his thighs. It’s taking everything inside of him not to reach for you. The need to touch you is something that must be burning under that thick skin of his. You hope it fucking hurts. You hope your omega is making it itch and sting so badly—you hope the discomfort makes him dig his nails so hard into his palms that it makes him bleed even more.
“I hate you.” It comes out of you too fast. You say it without thinking, but it comes out shaky and quiet. You feel defeated. You were someone else only hours ago; you were prepared to do anything for him, and all he can say is that he doesn’t want to hear you cry?
“Didn’t ask for you to do tha’. To do those things. I had it.”
You turn your head to look at him. Your guilt turns to anger. Your face drops into a tearful scowl, and your bottom lip trembles with it.
“What?”
“Don’t make me repeat myself.”
The fucking audacity of this two-faced asshole of an alpha—
“No, I need to h-hear you say that again. I need to hear you say you fucking had it. I need to hear you say that you had it after getting shot in the fucking head!” You cry. You lean towards him, glaring up at him. He refuses to look at you, just keeps his eyes on the ceiling. “Look at me if you’re going to lie to me.”
He doesn’t. He just breathes deep, angry purrs that you don’t believe. You sit up on your knees, facing him.
“Coward,” you spit. “Is that what you’re gonna put in your report? That you had it, and an insubordinate rookie put your life in danger? I can’t wait to see it, Lieutenant, I cannot wait to see what kind of bullshit story you come up with. You make me so fucking sick. I can’t believe I even saved your life, cause what good does it do me?”
Simon finally turns to look down at you. Even sitting, he’s still much bigger, much taller, and he narrows his eyes. Deadly. Hateful. You are caught in a line, but you are prepared for it.
“Careful,” he warns. You gather up some saliva and spit onto the floor next to you. You wipe your wet mouth after, running your tongue over your teeth. Simon eyes the blood that still stains your mouth. Instead of horrifying him, there’s a rumble that happens deep within his chest that he cannot control.
“Don’t test me, Simon,” you throw right back at him. “He’s only dead because he doesn’t get the satisfaction of killing you. If anyone’s gonna kill you, it’s gonna be me.”
A flame that becomes a torch. That’s what you and Simon are. You do not complement each other, you set each other ablaze. That’s what it feels like, anyway.
Your faces crash together in a hard, nasty mess. His mask is first, shoved up over his nose, and then his mouth is on yours. You scramble to get undressed, fumbling to get your tact vest off as Simon’s hands paw at your cargos. You hear fabric tear, but you don’t register it. All you can think about is getting naked enough to get close enough to him so you can feel the pulse of his heartbeat against your skin.
He’s eating you; as close as he can get, anyway. His teeth anchor into your throat, scraping the delicate flesh, and then his tongue is wetting the blood that’s still on your skin and sucking it into his mouth. The taste of torn-apart alpha wasn’t apparent to you, but it must be to him—the way he’s snarling, biting, slobbering as he makes you his dinner plate.
“My pretty omega,” Simon growls. It comes from deep within him, a drawl that makes your pupils dilate. Whenever his alpha shows his face, it’s never for long, but it makes your entire body shake. You don’t really remember taking all your clothes off, but Simon’s gloved hands are on your tits, and he’s thumbing at your nipples, licking over his teeth, snapping his jaws as if he wants to bite you again. “Mine. Mine to fuck, mine to protect, mine to play with.”
“Fuck you.”
“Your heat…I can taste it,” he continues. It’s in your sweat, in your scent, he can feel it boiling under your skin, begging to come out. The way your eyes shift in and out of something, it’s the cloudy haze of it hanging over your head. “Is that how you got your leverage over ‘im? Did he get a whiff of you and forget who he was?”
“No,” you pant, slipping your hand down his pants. You cup the underside of his cock, and he hisses, putting his hand over yours and pressing you harder against him. He squeezes, and your fingers wrap around him, tugging gently. He’s pulsing hot under your touch, and you move to shove his pants lower as your knees fall open. “I saw his gland. It was so…” You falter, whining. “I didn’t think. I just did.”
“My omega,” he sighs, shaking his head. Simon grips the side of your head by your hair, and he shakes your head as he forces you to look at him. Dark eyes. Blonde lashes. A face so terrible and so beautiful and so horrifyingly yours. “You must be mine, you know tha’.”
The quickness to violence. Your unapologetic nature. Because I will do anything for him, because nothing is too much, because death is inevitable if someone gets in my way—
You do. You know it. It’s as true as your nature, as true as the voice in your head, as evident as the bones under your skin and the hair on your head and the beating heart under your ribs that feels like it’s about to break right through. Simon will put his teeth on your gland, and he’s going to bite there, and he’s going to steal everything you are and tuck it inside. You have this disgusting image of the puffed skin around his scars opening up and attaching you to him, bleeding you of any life you still have until you are nothing more than a shriveled, dry cavity.
I won’t let that happen. He might have you, but I have him, too.
When you kiss, you dig your nails into his scalp. You feel him in your guts when he slips inside, pussy opening up and squeezing right back down to keep him in. You whimper, drool spilling out of your mouth, and Simon is there to lick it right back up as he hikes your hips up and grinds into you. It’s not the worst place you’ve ever fucked, but the hard ground under your head won’t feel nice in the morning. He must know, somehow, because one of his big hands cups the back of your head, pillowing his harsh thrusts as he gives it to you good. He’s there, right there, right against your sweet spot, and you drag your nails down his back as he finds it so easily. Simon knows you—he knows you so well. His alpha knows your body, knows how to make you speechless and stupid, and you hate him and love him all the same. The emotions are so hot in your throat, wanting to come right up. You want to scream at him, you want to tear the flesh right off of his face, but you will always stop yourself with delicate hands. You will always want to save him. You can beat him and curse at him and cry all you like, but when there is a bullet that goes flying, you know you will throw yourself in front of him.
There is little safety in this world for you. You will always be nothing more than your body to others, but here, underneath him, clinging to him as he fucks you right into that plane of existance between pleasure and pain, you are you. You are more yourself than you have ever been. Half of yourself doesn’t belong to you, and yet he’s brushing your hair back and kissing you hot, and he’s saying your name, and you feel more like yourself than maybe you ever will be.
You love him. You love him. You love him.
Do you love him because you love him? Do you love him because she loves him? Do you love him because there is nowhere else to go? Because he is your only means of survival? Because if you don’t love him, you might fall into yourself like a dying star and let her finish you off?
Maybe that’s why you hate him so much. You hate him because not loving him is impossible. You hate him because you want him to prove how horrible of an alpha he really is, and yet his hand is taking the brunt of the pain, and he kisses like he’s sorry, and the scent of him relaxes you like nothing ever has before. You’re safe here with him. You always will be. It makes you so fucking sick.
“Please,” he groans. He whispers it against your cheek. His cock feels so good, hips grinding against your clit, and he’s so warm. “Let me ‘ave it. Give it t’me, omega.”
“Beg me for it.”
“Don’t be difficult.”
“Bite me.”
You cry when he sinks his teeth into your jaw. It stings, in a good way. It nearly comes out, when you come for him. You nearly say it. You would mean it, if you did, but it takes everything in you to keep it down, to swallow it back inside, to keep it mashed under your tongue and sour between your teeth.
Your back bows when he comes. He always comes so much. You love the way it feels. You love how it can’t stay inside, too full, dribbling between your thighs. You love the sound it makes when Simon keeps moving—nasty, messy, lewd, a slick, slick, slick that makes you dizzy all over again. You could come again just listening to it, you could come again just hearing his choked breaths in your ear. He smells so good. You put your face into the crook of his neck and take a deep breath, and you whimper as it curls into the tendrils of your brain. Intoxicating—like you’re high. Right from the source, Simon smells delicious. You think love makes him smell better. You think love makes your omega even more feral, more than she already is, and the heat that stays in your chest tells you all you need to know.
You’re at the edge of that cliff. You’re about to fall over.
“S-Simon—”
Your voice pulls his eyes back to yours. He uses his hands, brushing your hair out of the way so he can look at you better. You cough, still a little delirious from your orgasm, but you’re coherent enough to communicate with him. You don’t need to say anything, you know that. Simon will look at you, and he will know.
“I have you,” he says. You knew he would say that, and yet you weren’t comforted until he did say it. “It’s happening, innit?”
I’m here, so close, I’m coming—
You just nod. He sits up, picking you up off the floor. All the blood in your head rushes down, and you hold on around his neck as he hoists you up around his hips. You press your face to his, cheek to cheek, and he carries you to the bathroom. When he turns the shower on, he sits you onto the toilet, and you watch him strip from there. It’s the first time you’ve ever seen him, all of him.
He’s a canvas of war. Your breath stops in your throat as he turns to shuck his trousers off all the way and steps out of them. He’s covered in marks. Fleshy, pink spots that must be from third degree burns litter his left leg. They make a map of rivers along it, spreading out to his ankle. His other leg must have been slashed to bits. There’s long lines of it all, deep flesh wounds that run along the length of his thigh and his calf. Someone made a knife sharpener out of his skin, and there are dips where the flesh could not be replaced. Your eyes scan over his torso. Simon is the picture of strength. He’s big and beefy, with a solid stomach, and he just looks heavy, but even that isn’t enough to fill out the mess of his skin. Gunshots, knife wounds, cigarette burns scattered along his arms. Simon’s body wears his history like a bright neon sign. He doesn’t cover up because he’s ashamed of it—he covers himself because he doesn’t want people to ask.
He doesn’t want people to know what used to be.
You stand up on wobbly legs, putting your hands on his lower stomach, pudgy to the touch but rigid against pressure. Your fingers wander, smoothing over the lines and taking in the landscape of his body. Simon stiffens just a little, but his breaths even when you lay your cheek against his bare chest. You shut your eyes, and the only sounds are the water from the shower and the beating of his heart. It pumps strong—Simon’s blood sounds thick, tar and honey.
Under the hot water, you watch as the water runs red. You watch it carefully until it runs clear, and then you look up at Simon. He’s already looking at you.
“I’m scared,” you tell him honestly. You are afraid. You try so hard not to be, and you know deep down that your omega’s true nature is to protect you, but you’re afraid. Trusting her means giving up control, real control. Even if it’s only for a period of time, it’s long enough that you are so fucking terrified. You don’t know what to expect. No one ever taught you what to expect, no one ever told you what would happen, what you would feel. You’ve been drowning your omega so long, you are afraid of what she will do once she comes out—kicking, screaming, clawing, burning, biting. You’ve been doubtful and spiteful all your life, and now you have to just hand yourself over?
It’s mother nature; and she is such a bitch.
“Do you trust me?” Simon asks lowly. You touch his face, and he bends to keep his eyes to yours. You see nothing but honesty in them, and that terrifies you even more.
“I don’t really have a choice, do I?”
“That’s not wot I asked. I need ta hear you say it.”
“Yes,” you sniffle. “Yes, Simon. I trust you.”
When Simon tucks you into bed, you fluff the pillows. You keep doing that, picking up pillows and shaking them, tucking them into new corners until it looks…right. You stop when you’ve got the blanket scrunched up in your arms, and you blink up at Simon who’s standing by the side of the bed.
You’re making a nest. A God-awful, terrible, messy shitload of a nest, but you’re making it. You put the blanket down gently, pushing it into the corner, and then you play with your fingers in your lap, twisting your hands over each other nervously as you look around the bed. The shadow comes over you before you feel him at your back. Heat like no other, and then you feel his fingers on your arm, tracing a line from your shoulder to your elbow.
“Wot is it?” He leans over your shoulder, and you feel his lips touch the side of your head. “Wot’s wrong?”
“I need more,” you say softly. “More things. Uh…” You look over your shoulder, and his lips brush over your cheek. “Some of your clothes, maybe?”
He drops them beside you. A couple shirts, a couple hoodies, and when you hold them up for him, you hold each other’s eyes as he scents them for you, rubbing the fabric against his wrists and along his neck before you find a spot for them in the pile. It’s haphazard and not at all neat, but it’s the first time you’ve done anything of the sort. It doesn’t feel perfect, but it feels like yours, and you will always remember the look in Simon’s eyes when you invited him into your nest.
It’s shockingly intimate. There’s something so warm, something so lovely, about tugging on his arm and pulling him into the space you’ve made. He climbs over you, sinking into the blankets, and you lay back with him into the warmth. You curl up into his side, closing your eyes, and when he hooks his forearm around the small of your waist, you go with him.
It is close. You can taste it. It will be easy with him here, with her.
I know what to do. It’s okay. When you wake up, you’ll be new again. I promise. I’ll make you new. I’ll make you better. I’ll have them, I swear it. It’s okay.
It’s okay.
Okay.
Tumblr media
You dream in a haze. The visions spill like water, crashing and moving, but you never get to focus on them long enough to see what’s really happening. You feel dirt under your nails and between your fingers, can feel the rocks cutting up your feet as you try and climb a high mountain. When you come to the top, you feel your feet slip, but someone grabs onto your wrists at the last second and pulls you upwards.
When you blink awake, all you can feel is the heat. It licks up your spine and curdles there at your back. You’re drenched in sweat, and it’s hard to breathe. The world looks like your dreams, but you can blink into focus. When you do, Simon is there, leaning over you. You whine a little, and when you rub your thighs together, you nearly choke at the feeling of how damp they are, sweat and slick staining your skin and the mattress beneath you. You didn’t expect to feel coherent. You do feel out of your body, but not in a frightening way. Maybe it’s your omega, or maybe it’s Simon, but all you feel is this immense pressure in your chest, something telling you to find and seek.
Alpha. Alpha. Alpha.
“I’m ‘ere,” Simon murmurs. He passes a thumb over your forehead, pushing some of the sweat out of your eyes. Your throat is dry, and you croak a little as you smack your lips together and arch your back up into him. “Right ‘ere.”
“Hurts,” you whisper. It does. There’s a pain in your belly that aches, and when Simon presses a hand there, you whine, immediately sensitive. There’s something missing inside of you, and your omega is singing for it to be filled. “Simon, it hurts—”
“Gonna make it better,” he says against your lips. When he kisses you, it feels like drinking fresh spring water. His saliva hydrates you, the taste of him satiating some deep-seated hunger that you’ve never felt before. It isn’t enough, but it’s good, tastes good, and you grab at him from all angles, trying to bring him closer. “Fuck, my pretty omega…” He gets between your legs, prying them apart, and you moan when you see the strings of slick that follow the motion. He seats himself there and pushes you backwards. “Present for me, kitty. Show me.”
You’ve never heard the phrase, but your omega knows what to do. She draws your hand down and uses your fingers to spread your puffy folds apart, and Simon sighs through his nostrils, hard and heavy, when he sees you spread open for him. He bends down, nudging your hands away, and when he closes his mouth over your pussy, you cry with relief. He groans. You are so warm, and you are positively sopping. He swallows mouthfuls, and it is still not enough—he bends your knees and hugs your thighs and tries hard to taste more, but it’s difficult.
“Simon,” you whimper. “Simon—” You choke on a moan as he tightens his grip. His fingers dig into you, bruising and hard, and you cry big, salty tears as he slips his tongue inside of you and fucks you with it. Soft, snarling licks, a devouring that you know is nothing short of primal. Your omega is stepping through the door, and his alpha is clawing at its fence, and soon they will meet, and you can do nothing about it but hope that they don’t kill each other.
Never. I can do it. You’ll see. I’ll make it so good.
“Alpha.”
The word resets him. He finally removes himself from between your thighs, dog-like expression on his face as looks up at you. Tongue out, drooling, that dead, loving look in his eyes. You cup his cheeks, drawing him up, and when you kiss, you note how sweet it is. How sweet you are. Natural pheromones that your body emits, something so luscious that her alpha cannot refuse it. It really is brain-swelling. You start to feel the spiral, a buzzing in the back of your head that is starting to get louder and louder and louder. Once you come for the first time, it’s like tinnitus. She’s here. She’s in your head.
She is not going anywhere.
It’s my turn now. I’ll give you back after I get what I want.
Tumblr media
It must be revenge that she wants. Revenge against you—for every time that you’ve taped her mouth shut, every time you’ve scruffed her by the nape of her neck and forced her to quiet down. Revenge against Simon—for acting like he could do anything but submit to you, for being a right asshole just to fall at your feet for a taste of your cunt. Revenge against everything—for being underestimated, for being ignored.
You don’t know how long it’s been. A few days must have passed by now, but time slips through your fingers like water. You close your eyes to sleep, and when you open them again, it’s to fuck your pretty alpha until you need to sleep all over again. You wake up in increments of lucidness, feeling Simon tip your head back and feed you small bites of something savory or a few sips of water. You lick into his mouth after, purring as you rub your nose against his jaw, and he always presses back tenderly. Smiling as he fixes his fingers under your jaw, murmuring something soft into your ear, slipping a few thick fingers inside of you to make you relax for him.
He’s underneath you right now. Your hands are wrapped tight against the headboard, and you’re straddling his face. His thick arms are hooked over your thighs, and you whine as you draw your hips back and forth against his tongue. He eats hot and heavy, his nose and mouth wet with slick as he alternates between flattening his tongue for you to ride and forcing you to sit still as he pushes his tongue inside of you and swirls it all sloppy.
You suck it out of his mouth after, like you always do. You sink down until you’re straddling his thick middle, your mouth against his as you kiss with gritted teeth, all giggly and wet. Simon is a good kisser; the mask shouldn’t fool anyone. You reach down as he does, feeling around until you cup the underside of his cock and guide it inside of you. His knot swells as soon as you sit on it, and Simon grips you under your thighs, spreading your legs a little more until his balls are nestled between them. You whine when his knot catches, already pulsing as your mouth drops open and your eyes roll back into your head.
Simon’s always been big—but the hormones he’s been producing in response to your heat only make him thicker, and his knot nearly splits you in two. You love it, and you chase it all the same.
He hasn’t claimed you yet. You don’t remember how many times you’ve taken his knot, or how many places you’ve fucked in this room, but he won’t do it. His teeth have just grazed the spot, teasing, but he never seals the bond. You cried about it a few times, in between rounds, but he just stuffed you full again to distract you. It doesn’t always shut you up, but then he’ll hook his forearm around your neck and nearly suffocate you as he comes deep, and you’re so delirious, you forget about it for awhile.
Your omega doesn’t though. Your gland protrudes, swelling, and she wants him so badly to claim you. Half of her job is to get him to do it—she’s supposed to take his knot and entice his claim, that’s what she’s made for, and she doesn’t want to come out of this empty-handed.
I’ll give you back after I get what I want.
She fixates on his mouth. She draws you to it, making you cup his face and lick over his teeth. She makes you shove his face into your neck, makes you smother him in your scent, but Simon, to no surprise, holds his composure. He’s too capable and too aware, even in his moments of staticky pleasure, to give into her all the way.
It’s a few days later when you start to feel less out of control. Your omega still tugs at the strings; slick still pools between your thighs, the heat of your body is still making you sweat, but Simon is in focus, and you are aware as he ruts into you. Your hands cup his cheeks, and you kiss tenderly as he grinds into you with shallow thrusts, low grunts from deep within his chest making you whimper.
“I-I love you so much, Simon.”
It’s instinctual. You couldn’t stop yourself. You’re crying, so overwhelmed with sticky pleasure and soft insides.
Simon knows it’s the same when he falters. His elbows give out, his mouth grazes your jaw, and before he can think twice, his teeth sink right into the skin under your ear.
Now that is fate—Simon had set his sights on you. There was never going to be any other ending.
You cry out. Your eyes widen, bugged out, and your pupils dilate. You dig your nails into his back, right up against his other scars, and you feel blood under your nails as he presses his hips to yours and comes, more than he has before. Your toes curl, your back arches off the bed, and you choke on squeaking gasps as he shakes his head a little, sinking his teeth in deeper, holding himself there.
Animal. Bear. Hook, line, sinker—there was something that once belonged to you, but now the seal has been broken, and the golden ichor inside bleeds, and Simon takes it into his mouth like its the essence of life. Maybe it is. There will be no one else. There will never be another omega. There will never be another person that tastes the way you do, that fucks the way you do, there will never be another cunt that opens up like yours and swallows his knot just like this.
Simon’s been at death’s door far too many times. It is only now that he thinks he’ll be afraid to see it again.
You go blind for a few moments. You see spots, glittering ones, and something trickles from the base of your spine all the way to the top of your head. It feels like you’re floating—as if your blood inflated, picking you up, taking you somewhere warm and safe.
A cocoon. A protective blanket. The space against Simon’s chest, the place you’ve made under his skin.
When he pulls back to look at you, your blood between his teeth, you feel your omega come right back. You thought it was over; you thought the days of dreamy fucking and scalding sweat and mindblowing orgasms was done.
Not even close.

You’re alone when you wake up. Your eyes blink, adjusting to the soft yellow light of Simon’s desk lamp. You can smell him—he’s nearby, you hear some noises, but he’s not in your line of sight, and that makes your insides clam up.
“Simon?”
Your voice comes out more broken and sadder than you wanted it to, but your emotions feel like they are all over the place. You feel happy and sad at the same time, elated and entirely too depressed. You feel overwhelmed and also too empty. Your body aches, and you feel like there’s something wrong with you, but also that nothing is wrong at all.
“S-Simon?”
You blink through warm tears, and then you feel a hand brushing your hair off your face. Simon bends down to meet your eyes. His mask is back on, but he’s without a shirt, and you swallow at the sight of the intense bruises, hickies, nail scratches, the bite marks. The relief you feel once you know he’s here deflates your insides so warmly. You hold onto his wrist, keeping him close, and there’s a rumble that happens under his chest that makes you whine to get him even closer.
“Good morning, kitty,” Simon murmurs. He must be smiling under the mask; you see his eyes squint a little, and you hear it in his voice. “Feelin’ olright?”
You sputter and shake your head. “No.”
Simon snorts, thumbing at your cheek. You chase the feeling, following his thumb, not satisfied until he cups your cheek with his big hand.
“Tha’s olright. Y’r just hungry.”
The bath Simon leaves you in melts your bones in the best way. You sink into the hot water, humming, watching from the open door as Simon changes the sheets and cleans up the leftover food wrappers and empty beverages lying around. You remember Simon feeding you between rounds, letting you lick his fingers, suck on them—
You clench your thighs together, gripping the edge of the tub.
“Simon…” You call for him. He drops the trash he’s holding, running a hand down his bare chest as he comes into the bathroom. He kneels down beside the tub, tilting his head to the side, and you guide his hand into the water and between your thighs easily. He chuckles lowly, tipping your head back, and you sigh with relief when his fingers slip inside of you.
“You are insatiable,” Simon hisses. “Fucking for nine days ain’t enough for you, kitty?”
“N-Nine days?” You gasp, grinding against the heel of his palm. You cling to his thick bicep, the water sloshing as you squeeze your thighs around his hand. Your nipples touch the cool tub, and you hiss at the sensation, leaning up to press your face to his. He grunts as he pumps his fingers, kissing his teeth as he leans his forehead against yours a little harder.
“Nine fuckin’ days,” Simon echoes. “Nine days of fucking my best girl.”
“Mmm—” You giggle, but it’s cut off as you gasp when he adds another finger.
“Nine days of you,” Simon clicks his tongue. He sounds starved. He sounds intense. He sounds determined, and you feel it in the curl of his fingers and the way his thumb swirls over your clit. He knows just how to make you shake. “It’ll never be enough, kitty.”
“N-Never.”
“Ahh—fuck—” Simon groans when he feels you tighten up and come. You’re so sensitive, it only took a minute or so, but he slips his fingers out and keeps stroking your clit with a thick thumb to keep you whimpering. You blink up at him, and Simon feels a deep satisfaction in his chest. He knows that look in your eyes, he knows it now.
You want to go again.

Simon has never been an affectionate person. You think it’s a sound assumption for how he behaved before you met him, but it was certainly not true anymore. When you were near him, he tended to stand close to you or guide you with a hand a few inches away from your back, but Simon kept to himself. He was not romantic. He took care of you—he made sure your meals were good, ensured the water for your shower was warm, but he didn’t hold your hand. He didn’t hug you or touch you beyond what was necessary.
Things are different now. Things have changed.
He’s warm behind you as you walk. His hand is fixed on your waist, occasionally hooking a finger around your belt loop and pulling you back when you walk too far ahead. You giggle when he yanks you back, stumbling in your boots before he rights you with a firm, gloved palm against your belly.
Touchy. Possessive.
The boys are all seated and enjoying their lunch when Simon opens the doors for you. You make your way towards the table, taking a seat, and the entire group goes quiet as Simon walks past to go into the kitchen. You adjust your hair, resting your chin in your hand, and you smile knowingly at John when he meets your eyes. He sizes you up; it’s been a few days since he’s seen you, and you already look different. Looser. Warmer. Thicker.
“Ye hungry, bonnie?” Johnny finally asks. You turn your head to look at him. You really look at him this time—you notice his eyes, bright and blue, and you take in the sight of him after morning training. His cheeks are a little flushed from the workout, his arms are bulging as he sips from a paper cup of coffee, and he’s smiling like he knows a secret about you that no one else is privy to. His hair has grown out since you last saw him; the mohawk takes up the curls of his natural hair, and you reach over absentmindedly and twirl your finger around the curl that falls over his forehead.
He holds his breath with your hand so close. Your scent is strong, sweet as he turns his head just a little to take a deeper breath from where your wrist lays. You follow the swirl of his hair before letting it go, smiling wider. Johnny is terrible at hiding what he’s feeling; his eyes obviously glance around your face, lingering a little too long on your lips, until they brighten a little at the sight of the mark that peeks out from your shirt.
“Mmm…” You lick over your top row of teeth. The action is too wet to be anything but enticing. “I’m starved, Johnny.”
His knee gives out and bangs against the table at your response. You giggle, and Simon places down a tray of food in front of you just as John grumbles under his breath as he picks up his cup of water that’s spilled over the edge of the table.
“Fuckin’ hell,” Simon mutters, taking a seat next to you. You take the fork from his hand and look down at your plate. Pasta. Garlic bread. An ungodly amount of parmesan cheese on the side. Your stomach growls looking down at the food, and Simon seems to hear it. He scoots just that much closer, and it’s nothing but instinct that draws him close. His mask brushes against your shoulder and the side of your head, and his fingers trace the scabbing outline of his teeth just peeking out from the high collar of your shirt.
“Bloody hell,” Gaz hisses, leaning back in his seat. You blink away the fog in your brain, feeling your face heat. “You both reek of it.”
“Of what, Sergeant?” Simon bites, and John is the one to curl his fist around his cup and crush it with a scowl.
“Don’t play stupid, Simon,” John murmurs. “You both need another hosing down.”
“Anyone wanna join me?” You purr, and Simon curls his fingers around your hair and yanks your head back with a huff.
“Oh, you’d like tha’, wouldn’t you, kitty?”
“You have no idea, baby—”
“Bleedin’ Christ!” Johnny groans. He’s gone before you turn your head to look at him, and you smile to yourself, amused, but Simon tugs you back to him, pressing his nose to the side of your head.
“What are you doing?” He whispers in your ear. You twirl your fork before pushing his hand off, taking a bite of your food. You chew and swallow before taking a few more pieces of pasta and holding it up to his masked mouth.
“Nothing. You want a bite, Simon?” You ask. You meet his dark eyes, raising a brow as you hold up the fork a little more. He narrows his eyes a little before hiking the mask up, and you feed him with a little laugh. You wipe his mouth gently before tugging his mask back down. “You know, I’d really like some iced tea, Simon. Do you think they might have some in the back?”
Simon’s eyes twitch a little. He looks over your face for a moment longer before standing, and you bite your lip as you stare a little too long at him in those cargos before he disappears into the back again. Your omega warms you, all down your spine. It tickles—her fingers curl around your bones, licking at your insides, purring—bite him, bite him, bite him—
“Real subtle, Kit,” Gaz comments. You take another bite of your food, leaning forward a little. You point the fork at him, tilting your head to the side.
“You know, I remember having this conversation with you not that long ago,” you tell him. “Something about how much you stink even this far away. You got something in your pants, Gaz, or are you just happy to see me?”
“Piss off,” Gaz snaps, and you smile. You know you’re getting under his skin when you smell ash in the air, something bitter and eye-watering.
“Is that a kink of yours, honey? Real subtle.”
“Knock it off, you two,” John sighs, shaking his head. He leans back, running a thick hand over his beard, and you go back to eating. “Gaz, you’re gonna be late. Get a move on.”
The air feels a little tense when it’s just you and John. You move your food around on your plate, frowning a little, and John shifts where he sits.
“How…” He clears his throat. “How are you feeling?”
You look up a little at him. He’s staring at you curiously, arms crossed over his chest. You shrug lightly. It’s humorous seeing him behave so awkwardly.
“I’m okay,” you tell him. “Sore. Really tired.”
“You been to medical?”
“No.”
“Consider it an order,” John nods at you, looking at the collar of your shirt. “Those things can be nasty if you neglect it.”
You put your fork down, and when you and John look at each other, you have to swallow your omega back down your throat. She’s salivating—look at him, he likes us, he’s worried—
“Oh, yeah?” You smile a little, coy, demure. “You know a lot about that, Captain?” The use of his rank makes his jaw clench, and you wet your lips with your tongue. “Claiming omegas?”
If the air was tense before, it’s scorching now. John is white-knuckling his own arms, and his entire body is stiff. You blink, not looking away. You hold him there, and his nose twitches at the way you pin him against some invisible board. You’re already acting so differently—so confidently. There is nothing to fight for anymore. Your omega won her prize, and now she can reap her rewards.
Your omega is greedy.
Four is just so much better than one, isn’t it?
“You seem lonely,” you say softly. He sniffs a little, laughing dryly, and your boot moves just enough to touch toes with his. “Are you lonely, John?”
Are you lonely, John? Do you need me, John? Do you see me when you close your eyes, John?
You barely contain your jump when an ice-cold glass is slammed down on the table in front of you. You blink up at Simon, who’s standing there beside you breathing hard. He sniffs, looking between you and John, but you’re quick to pick up the glass of iced tea and nearly drink the entire thing in one sip.
If Simon notices John following the drop of tea that traces along your jaw and down your neck, he doesn’t say anything.
Your omega purrs, and you nearly do, too. When Simon grips your wrist, you follow him out, but not before catching John’s eyes right before you turn the corner. He watches you the entire way, until you disappear behind a wall.
You think you smell anger on Simon. It makes you cringe a little when you get a deep breath of it, but when he presses you up against the door back in his room, you realize it isn’t anger. You smile up at him, hands behind your back, and Simon fists your hair and kisses you hot. Nope, not anger.
Fuck, he’s horny.

It’ll never be a level-playing field. From the moment you first presented, you didn’t think there’d ever be a real future for yourself. The social order that exists has always been well-maintained and aggressively understood. You exist all the way at the bottom; your kind is meant to get on their knees, be weepy and soft, and submit. You’ve always been told that is the easy life—you aren’t like betas who have to find their way, and you aren’t like alphas who have to continuously prove themselves. All you have to be is be quiet and obedient and gentle, and everything you want will come to you.
Even wants for omegas are understood. You aren’t supposed to want anything other than a cozy nest, a locking knot, or fat babies. You aren’t supposed to want anything at all other than the alpha that claims you and whatever they decide is right for you.
Your family abandoned you. Your caretakers lost you. Kate gave you away. Simon is the only one that has never asked you what you want, not because he doesn’t care, but because it’s not what matters. All he asks is what you need—everything else will follow as it’s supposed to.
He’s staring at your mark again. He does it often; he gets lost in his thoughts, and his eyes fixate on the faint bite mark that’s there behind your jaw now. It’s since healed nicely—all that is left behind is a faint indentation that would match Simon if he hinged his jaw open and bared his teeth. He has a strange obsession with it; not only does he stare, but he likes to touch it, too. He likes putting his gloved hand on the back of your neck and stroking it with his thumb, warm circles that make your entire body relax for him.
Simon’s not so bad. Things could be worse. Simon’s purebred, that’s for certain, but that also means his relationship with your omega is a bond unbreakable. All she does is flutter her lashes, and Simon’s alpha is on a leash, pulled taut, choking him of air. She likes that the most; she likes when he stumbles, when he falters, when his alpha is huffing and puffing because he can’t contain himself when she wags a treat in front of him.
You let her have it. It’s the least you could do.
Simon’s pack is no better. Sometimes, you think your omega feels guilty, but you push it down just like you’re used to. They deserve none of your pity. Entitled shits, they all are, and if it wasn’t for the fact that you are in their pack, you would never give such fragile egos the time of day; but they are in Simon’s pack, which means they’re in yours, which means you at least try to play nice.
Sometimes, though, it’s real funny watching Simon’s sergeants covering their crotches and waddling out of a room.
You can’t figure out John. He’s difficult to pin down. He has a special bond with Gaz and Simon, but every time you think you and your omega have figured out his wants and needs, he surprises you or oddly turns you down. While you already have an alpha that satisfies you entirely, it still stings, the rejection. Your omega whines. She is a part of their pack now, and the cold shoulder from even just one makes her upset—it does not help that John takes the place as head of this pack, either. She wants his approval, and she begs you to get it.
“Does John like me?”
Simon pauses at his desk. His pistol is disassembled in front of him, parts laid out carefully in a pattern only he might understand so he doesn’t lose any of the pieces. There’s gun oil and a rag to accompany him, and he’s methodically running that rag over the barrel when he stops. You turn your head from your place on the bed to look at him.
Simon shrugs. “Dunno,” he says finally, continuing with the rag. “Would think so.”
“I don’t think so,” you say softly. “Not like Johnny does. Or Gaz.”
“Tha’s cause they wanna fuck you, kitty,” Simon snorts, and you draw your knees up a little, squeezing your legs together. You think about Johnny’s wagging tongue or Gaz’s wet lips too long, and you’ll drag Simon over, even knowing his gear is filthy.
“John doesn’t?”
“John is…” Simon shrugs again, sighing deeply. “Him and omegas. It’s…complicated. Wot do ya care, anyway? Three alphas not enough for you?”
Three. The thought makes your omega giddy. You have yet to have them, but just knowing you can makes her so lightheaded. Since meeting her, you’ve come to know her as selfish and entirely too greedy. She’s a fiend for Simon’s attention the most, but you know she aches for all of it. She wants all four of them to fuss over her, to follow her like dogs.
“Maybe for me,” you agree, but your voice longs. It carries weight to it, and that makes Simon pause. “But not for her.”
Simon drops his things, standing up from his chair, and you smile wide as he comes towards the bed and grips you by your jaw with a shake. You blink up at him with a shaky breath, and his eyes crinkle, like he’s smiling, too, under his mask. Your omega will never be afraid of him. She adores him, far too much for your liking.
“Well, then. Maybe I should let my sergeants have a taste, and then we’ll see what’s not enough for her, eh?”
Your omega sighs. She just loves getting what she wants.
But it’s not enough. It’s not enough.
One reprieve you do get now, however, is that your heats are predictable. Like clockwork, every ten weeks, you can plan for those seven to ten days of complete bliss underneath Simon. You can lock him away, pull him out of any obligation or any mission, and he’s in your nest, staring down at you, feeding you between intervals of intense sex to keep your omega happy and satiated. John just bites his tongue when you take his lieutenant away—even if he wanted Simon not to go, he would never command it. He couldn’t do that to you, not to their omega.
She gets whatever she wants. No questions asked.
The balance is certainly well and tipped. It is no longer a clean-cut ladder with John at its stead. Now, it’s a foot on the tightrope, with each alpha fighting to make sure it does not tip over. As long as you are happy, their footing holds. They feel it steady and still, and they breathe easy.
There is still something that has the ability to disturb the equilibrium your omega has maintained. You just never thought you’d see it again—or smell it.
Your omega knows what it is as soon as gets the scent—who it is. Familiar. Edgy. Dark chocolate and herbs, a scent that used to comfort you, and now one that makes you hot with disdain.
She looks older. Tired. Stressed. You see it on her face, and you smell it on her, too. She wants to take them away from you. Not one, not two, all of them—and she doesn’t want you with them when she does.
She waves her hand like she always does. She throws her orders around, expecting everyone to move as soon as she says to. She’s not prepared for the tension, and she’s not prepared for the reluctance she’s met with. Instead of four bloodthirsty dogs, she stares down at outright disobedience.
She’s disturbed a den—and she doesn’t understand what stands in her way.
You remember the first time you saw Kate Laswell. Freshly 18, nowhere to go, no family. The streets weren’t suitable for you; omegas are vulnerable on their own, and if you didn’t choose the pack you got swallowed up in, it would get chosen for you. The doors for the service were always open. That’s what they do, that’s what your country does—they break their people down to the bone, down to their knees, and then the only way to build themselves back up is to put shackles on their ankles and cuffs on their wrists. It is the circumstances your country thrives on. They build the walls that cage you, and then barely wrench the door open enough for you to breathe.
You will always be kept at the same level—you always beg them for more, and Kate is just one cog in the wheel that keeps the machine running. She saw your face, saw you for what you were. She promised you a life worth living, and then she pulled the rug out from underneath you. She put you in her pocket; she tucked you away for a rainy day. Her precious 141 was slipping away from her, and she played her cards.
You want her to hate the hand she is dealt.
You’re outside when she finds you. You’re sitting outside the mess hall, where the benches are plentiful, and you’re staring down at the pack of cigarettes you stole from one of Simon’s jackets. The lighter is in your other hand, but you can’t get yourself to try one.
“Didn’t peg you for a smoker.”
You keep your eyes down on the cigarettes. You smooth a thumb over the label, licking over your teeth. Despite everything else, her voice hasn’t changed.
“I’m not,” you say softly. “Just…”
When you look up, you meet Kate’s eyes, and those have not changed either. They are still looking right through you, just as they always have. You used to think you loved her, at one point. She always would check on you. Visit your base herself, call if she couldn’t—ask how things were, if your CO had given you the accommodations she ordered him to. She made you feel like you were her favorite, as if she cared for you differently in some way. Surely, she did not check up on others the way she did you. She had other soldiers she must have kept her eye on, other places her guidance was needed, but surely, you were someone special to her.
You had been around plenty of alphas before her, but she was the only one that used to make you feel like you couldn’t rightly breathe. The first time you felt your omega bobbing her head to the surface of where you stuffed her, it was when Kate stood just this close to you. There was a time when you thought maybe Kate was reserving you. When the time was right, she might you ask the question you always thought she would—the terrifying world she tried to protect you from, she’d really do it, she’d take you away, take you with her.
Grass is always greener, you suppose.
You swallow hard when she takes the pack of cigarettes from you and brings one of them to her lips. She steps closer to you, jutting her chin out, and you raise a hand to flick the lighter on and burn the end of it until she puffs out a breath of smoke.
“Nasty habit,” you say softly, and Kate just laughs bitterly.
“Got nastier vices, kitty.”
Your eyes flick back up to hers, and you narrow them stiffly. Maybe she thinks she’s being cute, but all you see when you look up at her is someone alone. Someone reaching. Someone desperate. There’s an edge that Kate Laswell is known best for, but you don’t really see it anymore.
You tilt your head up a little, relaxing your face. You smile, but it doesn’t reach your eyes.
“How’d your meeting go?” You ask. She takes a long drag from the cigarette, blowing it out just to the side. You reach over and put a hand to the collar of her shirt, straightening it out. “Hope you got what you needed. I imagine you don’t wanna be here long.”
“Interesting you asked,” she says lowly. “I, in fact, didn’t get what I needed. I’m not leaving until I get it.”
“That’s too bad,” you tut. “I’m sure you’ll figure something out. You always do, don’t you?”
You have to lean back a little when she steps closer. Kate has always been someone who was more or less affectionate with you. Soft touches, shoulder squeezes, comforting words. You don’t remember what you used to see in her. You can no longer recall an instance of ease, a time when she was kind. You can only remember her words of rejection and her dismissiveness of your fear. Every warm memory has been replaced with her abandonment of you and her autonomy over you. Building you up just to knock you right back down.
You used to want her to want you. You used to pray that she would wake up one day and realize you would be content to live out a quiet life somewhere secluded, even if your relationship would be nothing but platonic.
You were wrong about her, and she was wrong about you.
“I don’t know what you’ve said to them,” Kate murmurs. “But I need this. You wouldn’t understand, but this isn’t…I’m not dealing with trivial matters, Kit. This is life and death. International security, and I’ve never expected you to understand where I was coming from, never wanted you to—”
“They said no,” you whisper, laughing a little. “They said no to you, didn’t they?” You tip your head back even further, staring up at the night sky, and you laugh again as you close your eyes.
“John said no.”
When you open your eyes again, Kate is sitting down, leaning her head back against the brick wall of the building behind you. She takes another drag of the cigarette, her face scrunching as she breathes it in deep. She flicks the ashes off the end of it, looking down at her feet.
John said no.
“John said no,” you echo, crossing your arms over your chest. “And Simon?”
“I expected that,” Kate shrugs. “A given. You did good there, Kit.” When you sit next to her, you notice her knee spread a little wider, just barely touching your own.
“But you weren’t prepared for John,” you finish for her.
“If anything, I can always count on John to separate…” Kate scoffs, “wants and needs from what needs to get done.”
“From what you want to get done.” You turn to look at her. “Did you ever think that…maybe this wasn’t meant for them? That they wouldn’t do this forever?”
“That’s a dangerous way to think for men like that,” Kate snaps. “You don’t want them out of here, living a civilian life.”
“The only person this is dangerous for is you,” you throw back at her. “Who else is going to clean up your fucking messes if not them?”
“Watch yourself, Kit.”
“You don’t get to tell me what to do anymore.”
You don’t realize you’ve said it until it’s been said. You nearly cover your mouth, horrified by what you couldn’t stop yourself from spitting at her. You can feel your omega’s fingers in your mouth. She’s feeling around your gums, drying out your tongue, cackling as she shows her newfound teeth. She never thinks any harm will ever come to her—the hollowness of your scent gland is proof of that. She’s been claimed but something foul, by something mean, and now she’s not afraid to do whatever it is she wants to do. You thought she’d given you back, but she’s still here, still causing trouble, and now Kate is forcing herself onto you. Her fingers are tight around your throat, and now you’re pressed up against crumbling brick, gasping as she crowds your space and attacks your nose with the bitter, poisonous concoction that her anger emits into the air around you.
“Don’t forget yourself,” she spits. Her lips nearly brush against yours, and you breathe in mouthfuls of her scent. It’s achingly heady, and it tastes like it’s filling your lungs with smoke. There’s something else there that you can taste, however—something warm, spicy, something a little less sour. Acid turns to sweetness, and you laugh between gasps of breath as you grip her wrist and dig your nails into her to try and get her to loosen her grip. When she finally lets you go, you take in a deep, shaky breath of fresh air. The tension never leaves her shoulders, but she steps back, away from you, and you smooth a hand down your own neck and brush yourself off.
You adjust the collar of your shirt, looking down at your feet.
“You owe me,” you say, throat scratchy. “I’ll do it. Whatever you’re here to ask me to do, I’ll do it. But you…owe me.”
You slam the doors behind you as you leave her there. Cigarette still burning on the floor, light flickering overhead—when you turn to glare at her from over your shoulder, she’s still staring after you.
You wonder if she looked at you this way when she left you the first time.

You remember when you used to be wary of Simon—when just the sight of him made the blood under your skin heat and bubble just under the surface. What you can’t remember is why; he’s standing between your legs right now, head bent forward, forehead brushing against yours occasionally as you gear him up. You pick up a few rifle magazines from beside you, trying to ignore how warm he is even under his gloves as you fill up every pocket of his vest. You pick up a pair of scissors and tuck it into another pocket, tugging to make sure everything is secure before you start to load the first aid kid that’s on his front.
You close your eyes when he juts his head forward just enough, his masked face pressing into the side of your neck. Your hand slides up, over his chest, just to cup the back of his neck and hold him close. His nose touches just under your jaw, and you make a small sound as his big hands grip you under the thighs and tug you forward. Your knees widen to accommodate him, and you scrunch your face at the feeling of his gear digging harshly into your middle.
“What is it, Simon?” You whisper, and he just huffs. You lean your head back a little, giving him more room, and you squeeze your legs around his hips when you feel his tongue from under his mask, wetting where your scent gland is. “Simon—”
“Smell nice,” he tells you. You laugh a little, and when he stands up to stare back down at you, you give him a nervous smile. “But I know how y’r feeling. Can’t hide tha’ from me.”
You don’t say anything. There isn’t anything you want to say. He’s right; you are nervous. The last time you followed Simon out in the field, he nearly died, and so did you. Sometimes you wake up thinking your saliva is someone else’s blood; and when he isn’t in bed when you wake up, you think you’ll see him again, sprawled onto his back, a bullet too close to his head.
You feel his fingers on your throat, blinking up at him, and when you meet those dark eyes, you feel your bottom lip shake. You’ve never been scared, but you feel so out of yourself when you join them. The 141 aren’t called in when the job is easy—they only do the things that no one else has been able to do. Your training is tested every single time you join them. You’re not like them; you cannot turn everything off. Simon is someone else on the other side. Johnny is fucking crazy. Gaz goes somewhere else in his head, and you don’t always recognize his voice. John—always level-headed, that one, but his gentleness with you is nothing short of an exception. These aren’t good men. They’re war criminals with badges.
“Ya don’t have ta come,” Simon says lowly. “I could ask Price, you—”
“No—!” You sit up straighter, your hand gripping his wrist to keep him close. You shake your head adamantly, squeezing his arm. “No, that’s…it would be worse.”
“Worse?”
“Who the fuck else is gonna watch your six?” You ask. “You suck at it.”
Simon laughs, from deep in his chest, and you press your lips against his from over his mask.
“Oi—kitty,” he murmurs, tilting your head back. He kisses you from under the mask, a soft peck through the fabric that leaves you with a light stomach. His attention is always too much and not enough. “Tha’s never gonna happen again, ya hear me?” He shakes his head. “Didn’t do my fuckin’ job tha’ day. Won’t be like tha’ anymore. I have you.” Simon kisses you again, pinching your chin, and you don’t let him move away. “My omega. Mine.”
“Wheels up in 15, lovebirds.”
Simon stops you from going too far when you hop down from the table. He tugs on your tact vest, making sure it’s tight enough, and then he picks up your helmet to fit it over your head. He picks up your sidearm next, releasing the magazine to make sure it’s full before hitting it back inside and loading the chamber. He bends to secure it in your thigh holster, and then he’s tugging on the straps of it, making sure it’s not loose around your leg. You can’t hold in your smile anymore when he stands and reaches under your chin to buckle your helmet.
There’s no reason to be scared. Not around him, not underneath him, and certainly not under his command. Maybe you’d step in front of a bullet for him—maybe you’d throw yourself in front of whatever someone tossed his way, but he would do the same for you. You don’t doubt that. You don’t think there’s anything someone could do to you that he wouldn’t give back to them much worse.
Simon’s love isn’t typical. It’s not sweet, nor does it fit inside its confines. He isn’t violent at his core, but it’s a response ingrained in him. Possessive, sick, overbearing to a fault—he’s too much all the time, but maybe it’s because Simon’s never been allowed to ever love anything without terms.
Everything has always been decided for him. How long he got to play as a boy. How tight he could hug his mother. How high he could raise his voice, how big he was allowed to grow, how he must behave once he presented. He’s always been too much, and he’s always been told what to do, so to have this thing, this one thing that could belong to him—who the fuck are they or you or anyone else allowed to tell him how to feel? How could anyone tell him the pedestal he puts you on is too high? Too warm? Too comfortable?
He’s died twice before in his life, but it wasn’t enough to keep him buried. Now he’s here, and he’s with you, and it wasn’t a coincidence. Fate handed you over, but by sheer will, he will keep you, and you will stay here, rooted to this spot, to the space between love and hatred and what overwhelms you and what lives inside of you between the hollow of your ribs. There’s a heart that beats there, too fast, too hard, knocking against the bones, and whenever Simon is near, it aches. You are bonded for life. Even if you lose him, you’ll never want another, not in the same way. It’s only ever been Simon that’s ever told you that it’s okay to be what you are; you cannot change your anatomy, you have to understand it at its most basic level and learn the rhythm of every song it sings.
I am not your enemy. I am your best friend. I will do things for you that no one else can do, I can hear the things you can’t tell anyone else, I’m the thing between what you really are and what you’ve always wanted to be, I know you, I know you, I know you—
“You trust me?” Simon asks. The ramp of the jet lowers, clattering against the tarmac, and he fits his thumb under your chin to bring your eyes back to him.
“Yes.” You smile up at him, and his thumb falls to touch the imprint of his teeth that’s there, right under your shirt. Only when he feels the dip where his canines have marked you does he look into your eyes again. Dark. Honest. Content. “Yes, I trust you, Simon.”
Simon drops his head, and you flutter your lashes when his helmet hits yours.
“On me, then, kitty.”
Simon is the thing that hides in the dark. The dark figure at the wrong end of a gun. He is the silhouette that takes the shape of your own shadow, and he is the terrible monster that hides under your bed; and yet, here you are, falling into step with him. It is not your omega that carries your feet—it is yourself, you, the one you’re hyper-aware of, the side of yourself that you have known for too long and neglected because you were taught the very worst enemy was the one inside of your own head.
If she was so bad, you don’t know why Simon’s hand would feel so warm in yours. If she was so terrible, you don’t know what makes his eyes so difficult to look away from. If she was so horrible to you, you don’t know why Simon is standing over a man that pointed his gun at you and forcing a blade so deep into his throat that the tip dents against the concrete.
It’s not that bad. Simon’s name will forever live in you, in the shape of his teeth under your ear.
Simon looks at you when he wrenches his blade back out, blood against the sharp edge. He lifts it to his face, and your lips part when he wipes it against the mouth of his mask, painting the skull teeth red.
No, it isn’t so bad. She’s smiling. No, you are. You’re one and the same, and you know her the same way you know yourself. She’s home, tucked into the warm places you know you’ll keep her, and you—
Well.
You’re right where you’re supposed to be.

I don't remember if you've ever been asked this, has any Gothamite shipped Danny the Menace with Phantom like BatBruce?
"Did you hear?" A girl whispered to her friends, taking glances at Danny. He had half the mind to tell them they weren't being subtle with their gossiping about him but he was a little curious to see what new rumors were going around this time.
A few months ago, the hottest rumor was that he apparently tricked three students into following him into the sewers as a prank. He fist fought Killer Croc after the criminal came upon them mid prank, outrage the man ruined his hard work.
What no one knew was that Danny had gone into the sewers to map them out, and the three students followed him. He thinks they wanted to blackmail him or something. Instead, the three idiots were making such a ruckus that Killer Croc found them. He had to defend himself and the three idiots in the heat of the moment.
It was his luck that Killer Croc stepped on his wet map - he liked to map things out with a fancy quill and ink- and Danny had shouted, "You stupid idiot! You ruined everything!"
The three idiots had wrongly assumed he ran at the mountain of scaled muscles because of his map. Him winning and then turning to them with bloody knuckles, rage filled eyes, and a sharp grin had only made them think he planned this.
They had run home screaming that Danny was planning on killing them.
It was hilarious how many people jumped out of his way when he walked down the hallway the following days after that.
"Apparently, Phantom asked out Wayne-Fenton, and he was rejected," the girl reveals with a gasp. It's quickly followed by her own friends gasping loudly, too. "He told the Star of Gotham he wasn't good enough"
"Ugh, who does Wayne-Fenton think he is!? Just because he has swooping hair?!"
"Or that he has blue bedroom eyes and a moody demeanor!"
"And so what, if he looks good in anything he wears!?"
"I saw him in the gym once. Washboard abs. Sculpture biceps, and did I mention the abs?! He makes me sick!"
Danny rolls his eyes. So it wasn't a new hot rumor. Just a bunch of people thinking him uncool and attractive again. He picks up his tray and marches out the cafeteria, ignoring the looks that various people sent him.
Its odd to be both the hottest boy in their grade and the most disliked. But he sure the this will in time pass too. He'll just go sit outside on a hill and draw constellations by memory over the city. He misses clear skies so much....
When Danny leaves, he isn't around for various people to hear the gossiping girls and suddenly realizes how attractive he is. How could they not see it? I mean, the guy rejected The Star of Gotham! Phantom is literally one of the hottest beings in the world. They know because Phantom was rank number three in Top hottest Teen Heros.
All the girls and a good chunk of the boys had the sudden realization that.....Danny Fenton-Wayne was so hot he even made ghost blush. Wow.
Phantom receives a lot of "Emergency HeartBreak Kits" from well meaning teenager all over Gotham. A few even tried to consult him by patting his back and revealing that Fenton-Wayne held the hearts of all adolescents in the city, and all adolescents in the city only held Fenton-Wayne's pity.
Unlike his adoptive father, Fenton-Wayne was the forbidden fruit too poisonous to touch. Oh, but we're people tempted to look.
Danny graduated Gotham Academy without a single romantic relationship. No one was good enough for him
(Danny was crying on Alfred's shoulder. "Am I ugly? You have to be honest")

"𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐭𝐬?"- Bucky barnes x former Avenger freader
An unexpected surprise awaits you when Bucky shows up at your house with a group of strangers
a.n - This is just a scenario of what it would be like for the members of the thunderbolts to crash at your place. Also this fic contains spoilers! (Let me know if you want a pt.2!)
Warnings - John Walker, dark humour, mention of injuries, minor cursing, making out and major fluff!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You gotta be kidding me, were not seriously bringing Bob with us are we?"
"Look Captain America, if it weren't for Bob we wouldn't have made it out of that death trap of a lab alive!" Yelena replies sternly. "Besides, he seems to have more discipline than you'd ever have."
This seemed to tick John off as the two of them started shouting back and forth, while Bob sat between the two of them awkwardly.
"Ok uhm...can we maybe...not fight?" He mutters under his breath but was completely ignored. Ava rolls her eyes at the childish scene before her and flickers her gaze down towards the nervous man. Silently telling him that it wasn't worth wasting his breath.
Surprisingly enough, he understood rather quickly and kept his mouth shut. Bucky groans in annoyance at the bickering in the backseats, and it didn't help either when a large man was snoring away next to him.
But swiftly brushes it off after pulling into a familiar driveway. He hadn't been back at this house for about a week now, so he was dreading what awaited him when he opened the doors. Especially since he has four other guests with him, who he quite recently found acquaintanceship with just a few days ago.
"Listen up, we're staying at this place for a while until things die down. So please, don't make this harder for me than it already is." Bucky states as the the group follows him down the pathway towards a red brick secluded house that was tucked in a small corner of New York City.
They all exchanged confused looks before reluctantly nodding at the grumpy man, with a few grunts and hushed responses. Honestly they were just really tired and their bodies were sore so there was no use in complaining.
"God - I hope she's in a good mood..." Bucky mumbles before reaching into his pocket to fish out his keys and was about to put it into the keyhole. Only to be interrupted midway as he hears the sound of another car pulling up behind him.
"Bucky honey? Is that you?!"
Everyone turned around at the sudden mention of 'Bucky' and 'honey' in the same sentence. All but Bucky himself as he walks back down the pathway towards you.
"Did I hear that right? There's no way Mr. Congressman would have a girlfriend." Ava whispers to the others as they all watched him walk past the minivan, disappearing from their sight.
There were mixed reactions as they all talked amongst themselves, trying to figure out who you might be.
You were pretty confused as well since there was a dirty minivan parked in your driveway. As soon as you step out of your car to examine the vehicle, you catch a glimpse of a figure in the corner of your eye.
Adrenaline kicked in almost immediately, thinking maybe this was going to be a robbery. I mean you do live in a pretty sketchy neighbourhood so it was possible. The sun was setting so it was pretty difficult to see who it could be, you had your fighting stance ready as the person steps out of the shadows.
"God Bucky! You could've said something instead of sneaking up on me like that!" You yelled and tried calming yourself since your heart was practically hammering against your chest.
"Yeah sorry 'bout that doll, didn't mean to scare you," Bucky drawls as he pulls you into his arm for a warm embrace. A sigh of relief escaped your lips as you bury your face into the crook of his neck, breathing in the strong scent of gasoline mixed with his cologne.
There was sand mixed with dirt on his tough leather jacket, but you didn't question it since he had finished a mission. Honestly speaking, you were just glad he was home again.
You then peer over Bucky's shoulder and finally noticed the rugged group of individuals standing in your porch.
They wanted to see what all the fuss was about so they snuck up on the couple and spied on them from behind the van. You were about to open your mouth to say something before spotting a familiar face amongst them.
She had short and slightly messy bob cut and an oddly cute frown on her face. Yelena steps forward hesitantly while examining your face at the same time, seemingly trying to figure out where she had seen you before.
Then it clicks, you were her older sisters best friend. She remembers how kind and comforting you acted towards her whenever she'd come to visit her sister.
You spread open your arms for her and without hesitation, Yelena falls into your embrace.
"Its good to see you 'lena," you murmured into her hair while she smiles at the mention of her nickname.
" 's good to see you too..."
Bucky joins the rest of the group, a small smile tugged at his lips as they all watched the heartwarming scene unfold before them.
He's not sure what waited them past this, but for now, he just wants this disfunctional group of anti-heroes to find some sort of peace while they stayed here.
Tumblr media
"Sorry I brought them here on such short notice," Bucky mutters as he leans down to your height when you let the others into your house.
"Ahh it's no biggy. Besides, I'm happy to have more house guests." You quipped while closing the door after Bob awkwardly walks in as the last in line.
Everyone had already made their way down the hall towards the living room to look around. Yelena let's out a long whistle as she checks out the place, to be fair, your house was quite spacious since you got the best place in the neighbourhood thanks to Pepper.
Although she insisted on getting you a penthouse, you turned down the offer.
"What's this?" Alexei asks with curiosity after picking up a delicately crafted box. You ran over to where he was and effortlessly took it from his hands so that he doesn't break it.
"Oh well - it's a gift from a friend. She's gone now...so I like to keep it up on the mantle to remember her by." You say in a hushed tone while you look down at the detailed craftsmanship in your hands.
Alexei knew exactly how you felt, so he placed a large hand on your shoulder and gave you a light squeeze of acknowledgement. "I understand, Alexei has been through much loss just like you."
Thanks to Yelena, you had the privilege of meeting Alexei a few years back when Natasha was still alive. So you were happy to have both of them back in your life.
"Dad, you can stop bothering her now. You've said enough shit already." Yelena groans while dragging Alexei away from you since he was still rambling on about Natasha and how much you reminded him of her.
"Do we have enough space for them?" You felt Bucky's fingers brush against the back of your hand to get your attention since you were still deep in thought.
"Hey...you ok doll?" Bucky asks with a worried tone since you hadn't responded to his previous question. You snap out of your thoughts and look to your left to see Bucky by your side. His brows were furrowed as he brought up his other unoccupied hand to cup your cheek.
"Uh yeah..! I'm fine," you respond with a tight-lipped smile. Bucky had just come back from a mission, so you didn't want him to now worry about you too. He wanted to press on but then thought it would be better if he just let it slide this time.
"Are we sleeping down here?!" Yelena yells from another room down the hall. The rest of you make your way to where Yelena was, she had found one of the guest rooms and was already laying down on the neatly done sheets.
"You could've at least taken a shower before hopping onto the bed," Bucky sighed in disappointment. Yelena's clothes were pretty dirty since they had come back from the desert.
"Oh right! Sorry that was my bad," Yelena responds in a muffled voice as her face was now planted into the plush pillows.
"Its fine, there's extra duvet covers in the storage closet," you say while walking towards the walk-in closet in the room. "Don't worry guys! There's more rooms upstairs."
"Do we have to share? I'm not sure how I'd feel if I have Santa Clause sharing a bed with me." John grunted while crossing his arms. You assumed he was referring to Alexei , which almost made you snort in response.
"I'm serious! Does he not look like the Russian Santa Claus to you?" John carries one while Yelena lets out a coarse laugh from the bed.
"Pfft - sorry John, there's only 3 guest rooms, so you have to pick your roommate wisely." Bob lifts his hand up shyly and clears his throat.
"I wouldn't mind sharing...if that's OK with you?" John thought about it for a moment before giving in. "You know what? Why not?"
"Great! That leaves one more vacant room -" You were cut off by another female voice.
"I'll take it," Ava replies rather quickly. John was about to protest and say that he changed his mind, but Ava gives him a sharp look which made him backdown. You were going to ask for her name, only to be cut off yet again.
"Oh right sorry, the name's Ava," she says plainly while giving you a small smile.
"Uhh OK cool, it's nice to meet you Ava. Let me guess, you also have an incredibly sad back story like the rest of us?"
"Oh God, don't even get me started..."
"Also...what's all this talk about 'thunderbolts'?" You prodded while giving Ava a confused look. Ava curses underneath her breath while the others shout in since that they're not called 'the thunderbolts.'
"Thunderbolts yes!! That's my lovely 'lena's football team name from when she was a child -"
"Dad please stop--!" Yelena groans while trying to get Alexei to stay quiet. It brought a smile to your face to see how liveley your house had become after being alone for a week.
"Alright, is there anyone here who needs medical care?" You asked while handing the new duvet sheets to Yelena.
"I think all of us do," Yelena sighed while clutching her side. She was so excited to finally sleep on a comfortable bed that the adrenaline rush took over, making her forget about the pain.
You nodded before turning back to the group. "Right, who wants to go first?"
Everyone had lined up in the washroom to get themselves checked since it would be easier for you to clean up afterwards.
You were currently bandaging Yelena's arm as she winces slightly. If anything, she had been through the worst due to the others being practically impenetrable.
"Just leave this on for a few weeks and take some painkillers. Trust me, the pain will be gone before you know it."
"Ok, thank you," Yelena exhaled while she got up to let the next person in. John walks into your view as you clean up the area for him to take his seat on the stool. The space was pretty cramped since you chose the guest washroom instead of the large one upstairs.
"Hey John, got any major inuries?" You asked while preparing a wetcloth and some bandages. John stops you midway and he shook his head.
"No not really, just have a few cuts on my face and the side of my head." True enough, he looked like he was perfectly fine except for some cuts and grazes that was scattered across his face.
You almost forgot that he took the super soldier serum back when he was Captain America. It was hard to forgot since you were with Sam and Bucky at the time. You nodded before putting away the bandages and took your seat infront of him. Now that you were face to face with him, you noticed how mature, yet different he looked from before.
"Must've been rough for you, running from the law." You start off by cleaning some of the smaller cuts with some wipes. "Trust me...I would know."
You were referring to the time you were on the run with Steve and the others for two years after freeing Bucky. That was how you two met and became close in Wakanda.
"You have no idea..." John responds with a slight waver in his voice. You choose not to press further and lightly dab the bigger cut on the side of his eyebrow.
Unbeknownst to you, John was silently admiring the way you were taking care of him. He doesn't mean this in a creepy way, rather he's surprised that anyone would show an ounce of care for him due to his character and lack of social awareness.
Bucky, on the other hand, misunderstood the scene completely. He had a glass of water in his hand when he went to check up on you. The water that was already in his mouth almost made him choke as he saw the way John made doe eyes at you.
As much as he wanted to strangle the man on the spot, he waited and observed at the doorframe. A smile threatened to tug at the corner of your lips as you felt the presence of the jealous man boring his eyes at the side of your head.
"Relax hon', John's just being John." Speaking of John, he blinked at you in confusion before looking up to see Bucky shooting bullets at him with his eyes.
"Don't worry, he's not going to do anything." You whispered before placing a clear bandaid on the scar. John didn't know if he felt reassured or threatened, so as soon as you finished, he scrambles to his feet.
Bucky steps aside to let John leave, but not before leaning towards him to say something. John flickers his gaze between you and Bucky before leaving with a terrified look on his face.
"Bucky dear, what did you say to him?" You sighed while placing the remainder of the medical equipment back in the medicine cabinet.
"Oh nothing really, just...gave him a peptalk." Bucky responds with a smug smirk as he walks into the washroom. You raise an eyebrow at him, which prompted Bucky to pull you in close by your waist with his arms.
"I didn't threaten him doll," Bucky drawls while bumping his forehead against yours, letting his hair frame his face. It was slightly damp with clumps of sand still stuck in some places. You'd have to remind him to take a shower later after dinner.
"Uh huh, that's why he left like a pale ghost? Because you gave him a 'peptalk'," you mused while playing with the lose strands of Bucky's hair that fell over his eyes. Bucky chuckles softly before responding.
"Right...just a peptalk." Your breath hitches when he bends down to your height while his hair tickled your nose from a loose strand.
"You know you're a really bad liar, right?" You huffed while the rough pad of Bucky's thumb ran gently across your cheek. Your skin felt soft and warm underneath his touch since the blood had rushed to the surface, painting a soft hue of red across your cheeks.
"So? Is that a bad thing?" Bucky's voice goes an octave lower while he inches closer towards your lips, his breath now heavy against yours. His scent flooded your senses, it was a mixture of his cologne and his natural musk from his skin. He hesitates before flickering his gaze up to you again. Silently begging for your permission.
You pondered for a moment while tapping a finger on your chin. "Hmm, do you really deserve a kiss?"
Bucky tilts his head to the side before giving you a deadpan look. But you knew that he was fighting back a smile, so you were the first to lean in. He did deserve a reward for being the amazing partner that he was. Except, he was too quick for you.
He dips his head low, and presses his slightly chapped lips against yours, practically melting into yours. The kiss was gentle yet full of desire. Head tilting the side, his hot breath mingling with yours as his tongue dragged gently across your bottom lip.
Coaxing you to open your mouth. Your tongue meets his as the hand slips down towards your waist. Pressing his fingers into your supple skin, which will definitely leave marks considering how tight his grip was. Not that he didn't mean to, of course.
"Love you s'much," your voice was barely a whisper as it was all becoming too much for you. Bucky let's out a small chuckle as you began to pepper his face with quick pecks before moving back to his lips.
He could picture his lips were probably now a sugary pink colour due to the lipbalm that you wore. The brand was probably called... Summer Fridays? Or something across that line.
"Love you too angel..." he mumbled against your plush lips.
The couple completely unaware that Yelena, Ava and Bob was spying on them from afar with popcorn in hand.
"Guys...I feel a sneeze coming," Bob whispers towards the two women sitting next to him.
"Cucumber! Cucumber! Cucumber!!" Both Ava and Yelena whisper shouted back and forth hurriedly. But it was no use, the sneeze along with their hushed shouting caught the attention of the couple in the washroom.
Needless to say, they learned their lesson from Bucky after an hour long lecture of why they shouldn't spy on people. That also included the punishment of getting limited screen time on the TV as well as playing video games.
p.s - I really love John's character and I believe he has some depth to him that could be explored more

My fantasy is a bit different.
Brainwash my future wife leading her to think that she was born to be a eexual relationship expert. Just because she has never been a good student during her high school time. So, I made her think that if she's not smart, nor she likes to sit and revise, then she can only be good in one thing. She's good at helping single girls giving advise on how to be excellent wives. But in order to be a great expert, she 1st needs to be a qualified slut. And that qualification requires for her to master every aspect about being a private and faithful whore only to her husband. To get that qualification she needs to follow the program for 12 months.
1) Month 1. Learn about man and women's psychology. Stuff like- She needs to learn that the 1st thought a man has before coming home after a hard day of work is " which hole I'm going to use when i get home to my wife". Learn that men have non negotiable rules. If she wants her husband to talk with her parents on the phone just to say hello, she needs first to be naked and start rimming him before he engages in any conversation. She needs to understand that cleaning her husband's shit is far more important than her listening to the conversation . She also needs to understand that a man is happy when his wife behaves like a member of the OWC (Malaysia), surrendered wifes club or a stepford wife or even a gook whore. The american geisha's teachings are clear. Build a cock temple in the bedroom and see yourself everyday being throatfucked and pissed by your husband.
2) Month 2-3 after the theory, comes the practise. Learn about the importance of deepthroat and sleeping with your husband's dick in your mouth for full 30 days.
3) Learn about the levels you need to achieve before becoming a Perfect wife. When you get married to your husband, these are the levels chosen for you.
- human toilet
- slave
- assistant
- secretary
- mistress
- girlfriend
- friend with benefits
- fiancee
- wife
- good wife
- concubine
- 2nd wife
- 3rd wife
- perfect wife
Each stage can take from 1 to 5 years depending how you progress.
4) Month 4-6 Learn & practise every aspect of sex taught by the experts. Learn how to do b2b massage, nuru etc. Learn abt the importance of blowjob competitions with other wives. Learn how to teach/train other girls to suck dick.
5) month 7-12 - Practise practise practise.
Then after you become a qualified slut then you can start consulting and eventually open a good wife's academy.
To join the academy your students need to follow the requirements:
- Over 21
- Be a PHD - pretty hot dumb
- Have nice and beautiful boobs
- need to be single
- Sign the agreement that during the length of the course, I (as the headmaster of the academy) can use their bodies, brains and their precious time to do whatever I think it's needed to help them achieve their goals. They should also comply that they will follow everything the academy sets for them and not argue.
So now that my wife is qualified and she'll be busy, she needs to ensure that all my needs are met. So we need to hire one maid, one assistant and call her hot stepmum and hot sister to stay with us for couple of months.
boarding school for denied girls
one of my favorite fantasies is a boarding school for girls where masturbation is absolutely not permitted. girls would get fitted with a chastity belt on their first day, required to wear it all the time except for maintenance washings, edgings and punishments. teachers would of course be allowed to fuck their student's asses or demand blowjobs in between classes, but the keys to the chastity belts would be stored in the headmaster's office. there would be rewards for girls that did exceptionally well in class, like supervised edging sessions or the permission to use sex toys. bad grades would mean you'd have to sit in class with a dildo or plug up your ass, get your tits, ass or pussy spanked by the teacher and forfeit your edging rights. on one day per week, all students would have their pussies stuffed full to determine how well the denied girls could work with the constant distraction. only the best and brightest students would get occasional ruined orgasms, and it would be the closest to satisfaction a girl would experience in her entire educational career. i imagine attending this school, getting better at satisfying my teachers every day, forced to study with my ass stuffed and my pussy dripping in its cage… who wants to be my teacher? 🩷

im insane but i need facetime sex with frankie whilst hes away. he would be so shy and lowkey confused (old man doesnt get technology bless him) until you spread your legs for the camera and start drooling over the sight of his cock.
erm ANYWAYS
-💥
this 😵‍💫 oh my god. I've been thinking about this for days now, your requests make me fucking feral girl, I hope you enjoy this lil thing i whipped up!!
18+ MDNI below the cut :3
Frank Castle and FaceTime Sex - headcanon/drabble
Tumblr media
he's such a fucking grandpa when it comes to technology. the first time you'd call him on facetime he'd pick up and put the phone to his ear
"no frank- move your phone in front of your face.. no frankie, i can see directly into your brain"
"I won't be able to hear ya if it's not up to m'ear doll.." he grumbles, completely oblivious to the situation.
"then turn your fuckin' volume up old man!!"
he finally catches on and he's met with your giggly face as he raises his eyebrows
"didn't know ya could do this, why didn't ya call me like this sooner babydoll?"
and from then on out he'd facetime you every night (if he could) from his shitty motel rooms, after you taught him it was a whole damn separate app on the phone. Frank loved being able to see you so candidly when he was away from home, often staying on the phone with you as you fell asleep, camera facing you as he stared lovingly at your unconscious form, hating how he wasn't there in person to hold you and kiss you as you dreamt soundly in his hold.
you were the one who initiated the inevitable facetime sex, it was only a matter of time until the light bulb went off in your head. instead of sending him sexy selfies for him to fuck his fist to, why not be his own personal cam girl?
you call him one night, earlier than usual because that day you had been needier than usual.
"everythin' ok sweetheart? was gonna call you in a couple hours-"
he's cut off as you angle the phone down, showing him your body in his favourite black lacy underwear. you devilishly grin as you watch the muscles in his jaw tick, watching him try and suppress a groan at the sight of you.
"fuck mama, ya tryna kill me or somthin'? feelin' needy?" he softly speaks into the microphone, his voice rough, laced with his own desire.
"mhm frankie, need you so bad.. been wanting you all day.."
"shh doll 'm here now.. want ya to do everythin' i ask, okay sugar?" his own hand travels down to his bulge in his jeans, roughly palming himself through the fabric, cock impossibly hard just from seeing your perfect body through the tiny screen.
you whine in response to his question, moving your hands down to your core but he stops you.
"not yet babygirl, want ya to pull y'bra down.. slowly. no need to rush, we got all night.. lemme see those pretty fuckin' tits."
you comply with his requests, pulling your breasys out and slowly kneading the flesh in your palm, twisting your nipples slowly as your breathing deepens, soft moans and whines escape your plush lips as you rut your hips into the air, chasing non existent friction as you clench around nothing. he can't help but shed himself with his clothes instantly, pulling his boxers down and exposing himself in record time, his arousal destroying him.
"good fuckin' girl, my good girl. wanna see what ya do to me? bein' so perfect f'me?... shit how do I turn the camera round.."
you laugh as you instruct him, and your laughs stop as you see him, thick, hard and dripping all over himself as he fucks into his hand, groaning your name as well as a string of curse words and strangled moans. you practically drool at the sight, sucking on your fingers in the camera before reaching down to play with your pebbled nipple as he requested.
"thatsss it babygirl, push y'panties to the side, need to see her.." you comply, moving the phone to show him your spread legs, soaked panties and slick cunt. franks eyes roll to the back of his head as his cock twitches desperately, fucking his hand quicker as precum oozes from his red tip. "fuckin' soaked sweet girl, rub your clit f'me, slowly.. attagirl."
he talks you through pleasuring yourself, telling you to speed up, rub harder, stop altogether. he makes you take it agonisingly slow until you're begging him through the receiver to let you touch yourself more, your release imminent as he continues edging you with his dirty words.
"gonna fuckin' ruin ya when i come home Monday.. fuck baby, teasin' me like this.. shit. need to fill that pretty lil mouth.. need to stretch that pretty pussy with my cock, that what ya want doll?"
"frankie- please.. 'm so close.. pleasepleaseplease-"
"been so good f'me doll, that's it cum for me. pretend it's me instead of ya fingers." his orgasm is close too, however he waits until yours crashes through you first, hearing you whine his name as you both cum together, gushing over your own hands wishing it were the others instead.
let's just say when he finally does come home, you both don't leave your shared bedroom for the entire day, calling your work telling them you're too sick when in reality you're getting stuffed full of him repeatedly until your knees give out.
being taught what facetime was, is the best thing that ever happened to frank.

I'm still here!
hi all, just wanted to update y'all on how I'm doing.
Thank you, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, for the kind messages and anons. Every single one picked up a tiny piece of me and placed it back into its original place. I cannot thank you enough.
.. There's no easy way to say I'm still not doing good. BUT! I am doing *better.* Even if just a little, I consider it a win.
Mornings are a heavy issue. The past two, I've thrown up. Not today though, so that's a win right? Nightmares plague me - even today I caught myself dreaming that, once again, my words have been used against me and I was left alone, with only hatefull paragraphs to keep me company. Had I not realized I didn't have my phone in my hands when I woke up, I might have thought it was real. Man. Just another reason to have an aversion to my phone!!
I found a new.. Man, I never thought I'd use this word. I found a new trigger for my, what I can only assume, are panic attacks. Discord notifications. Just seeing the icon on the notification bar has my heart in my ears and I can't breathe. I still don't know how to efficiently calm myself down from these. While walking helps, I sit back down and it starts again. My job requires me to sit!! I've begun just brute forcing past it.
My appetite has completely vanished. I usually eat a decent amount through the day, but for the past 4 I've hardly been able to finish a single plate of food in a day. Yesterday I struggled with a can of monster. I LOVE MONSTERRR and yet I kept nursing it the WHOLE day. I was so mad... I'm going to go to my favorite restaurant soon, gonna work on getting my appetite back up.
On the way to my atelier, the song that inspired Timeless!AU came on: For Her by Jeremy Jordan. I adored this song. It meant everything to me, it's going to be on my Spotify wrapped from how much I listened to it. I.. Can't. Anymore. I put it on blast, I couldn't bring myself to skip it - and still, even when I was walking my heart beat faster than it should and I suddenly found myself out of breath. Negativity seeped into my favorite song. Figures
Still - it brought me some clarity. Past days I've really been feeling like a monster - but For Her made me remember that the AU really was always meant for this unrequited love, the whole thing somewhat inspired by the Great Gatsby and a dream that's just out of reach. How could I let myself be deluded so much? How did I let their words get to me so deeply that even I began questioning myself? ESPECIALLY since they don't me at ALL?! I saw someone say something so outrageous it become an inside joke with my friends! That really helped to disillusion me. I hope that with time, or with enough replays, I can find comfort in For Her again.. And I will. Jeremy Jordan is too good not to listen too
It's not all bad, though. I know I've been venting, yet I have to tell it at least to someone that's not my wife. Poor thing, I feel bad for her. She shouldn't be weighted my mistakes.
now let me tell you about the good too.
Oh there's so many amazing people in this community. Like each of you. Like my community on discord. Like my closer contemporaries. Discord notifications are not as scary when I see a certain groupchat or even server. Yes, while my heart skips a beat - I've laughed far more than cried. I can't thank them enough. I'll never bring it up to them, I don't need to drag down their mood, so I'm telling yall instead.
I've begun drawing again. I feel like I understand Shadow Milk Cookie on a very personal level now. If his demeanor changes going forward... I'm probably projecting.! Oh I've gotten to the point in rock bottom where I imagine PV helping me out with stuff. Man that's embarrassing to say. Akctually everything here is embarrassing to say - I still feel ashamed my body has such a visceral reaction to.. All of this! I digress. I began drawing again. I'm happy with what I have, can't wait to start showing yall.
I've begun scrolling Twitter too. In small doses. My modteam suggested it, and woah, it helped scrolling through the splatoon tag. I can't just up and leave it, as it's my current main source of income. I'm watching CRK tiktoks too! Slowly.
I'll try to be stead fast in my recovery - I've come to realize there are people who are dependant on me, they look to me to see how they should react. I did not see that before, and for that, I also apologize. Many have pointed out I'm new to this, and only now did I realize just how right you were. Especially as someone whos always kept to a side line - having a voice baffles me.

I have a triplegic uncle, he only has the use of one arm. He also has a bit brain damage if I remember correctly and he has been this way his whole life due to an unfortunate accident that happened when he was a baby. He can't do a lot of things like going to the bathroom on his own. My gramma and grampa used to help him with these things but now my gramma is old and can't lift him and my grampa passed away a while ago. My uncle is in a nursing home now but had to be moved around a bit until he got to this recent one cuz the other places were awful or too expensive, I think it was only two the more I think on it.
One place wouldn't bathe him nor help him go to the bathroom and instead put a diaper on him and DIDN'T FUCKING CHANGE IT! Uncle got a bad rash ALL OVER and he was suffering cuz it hurt. Gramma and my mom went up there and moved him out with a quickness. Now he is in a better home and thankfully is getting the help he needs. Sure they give him a diaper too but that's incase of accidents and they still transfer him to the toilet and to a shower-safe wheel chair and bathe him.
Now, if a man who can't take a shit properly nor bathe properly needs to save himself from a fire, what do you think will happen? HE'D DIE AND MY GRAMMA AND I WOULD BE HEART BROKEN! He has help and there are precautions in place so that there is less risk of a fire breaking out that bad at his nursing home but think about that. There are countless people who struggle and are forced to "Get over it" cuz "it's not that bad" if they need a wheel chair on occasion THEY NEED THAT WHEEL CHAIR!
Sometimes I get so overwhelmed and become nonverbal, I have an app I can use to help me communicate, it's an e-reader app I think, there are a lot of different ones to choose from. I use natural reader for multiple things this being one of them. Once I got into an accident on my electric scooter (two wheeled electric scooter where you stand) on my way back to work from lunch. I fell off in the parking lot and was fine. Got back up FELL OVER AGAIN IN THE STREET AND ALMOST GOT RUN OVER BY A CAR. Had to text my co-worker quickly to help after I got on the sidewalk. I couldn't work the rest of my shift cuz I was shaking and couldn't speak, had to write down what I needed help with, which was to call my gramma (I live with her) so she could pick me up. Gramma was a bit freaked out cuz her grandchild almost got run over and seeing me all frazzled and not talking was a lot for her cuz she never saw that. I used my phone to communicate with her while I let it ride out, cuz that's what works best for me. I get myself in a comfortable environment and relax.
I can't force myself to talk when I'm like that (I've tried and it just either doesn't happen or I yell out single words at a time unable to make full sentences, having to hid my chest to "force the words out" in a sense which NOT GOOD), I literally strain to speak. It's hard to explain to have others who don't struggle with this type of thing understand, but the way I put it is kinda like getting the wind knocked out of you but with words. You can breath but you can't speak even when you want to. You try as hard as you can but there's no words, a tightness in your chest, and a sort of fog or ringing in your brain.
Safe to say, if I were caught in a fire I might have a rough time talking to the operator on the phone or something and then I might die or get really injured.
Long story short, I'm very aware of visible and invisible disabilities from either personal experience or through second hand experience since I helped with my uncle before he moved to his current nursing home. Trust me when I say that people can die if they don't have the support they need if they're disabled! People with disabilities should not be undermined or dismissed and told to get over it, they should be respected and offered help and opportunities to make their lives better! Wasn't Stevin Hawking technically disabled and in a wheelchair?
Help a disabled person, help the next potential Stevin Hawking! Just be nice!
I hate how often some (typically abled) people will go “well, if you can’t [get a specific support], then what?” when it comes to disabilities. As if it’s a “gotcha” moment. And then act like you’re exaggerating when you answer that question honestly.
Disabled people often die from a lack of support. A lot of disability aids are not a luxury, but a basic need in order to live.
“Well what happens if—” people die. People hurt themselves. People hurt others. Disabled people don’t magically become abled if our needs aren’t met.
If a bedbound quadriplegic is caught in a housefire, and there’s nobody there to save them, they’ll probably die. They won’t magically become able-bodied out of sheer will.
If a nonspeaking/nonverbal autistic is denied access to alternative methods of communication, they’ll suffer in silence. They won’t spontaneously become capable of speech.
Disabled people are disabled all the time. Our disabilities don’t go away just because they’re inconvenient, or if we’re in danger.

One's man trash is another man's treasure
Run
Run
Run
His little legs swing as fast as he can. Escape is all his choice left. As incompetent as he is, he is very good at escaping. However, they don't need an escaper. What they need a warrior. And he is not one.
So he run. The league wishes to kill him. His grandfather Ra's sees him nothing as a lesser being. Even his mother Talia despises him. He has no one else here. He needs to be gone while they are focusing on the newest recruit.
So he run. And run. And run. He doesn't know how long has he been running. He only stops at the end of the day to sleep for an hour and drink some water. He is not a good fighter. Mainly because he isn't capable of killing. But his physical abilities are beyond what any of peers have.
He doesn't know where he is now. All he could see is towering building that pierce the sky. People in weird clothing, walking fastly along the road. And a huge fountain.
Water!
Rushing to it, he jumps straight into the water. He could feel the gazes coming at him but the feeling of the cool water is enough for him to ignore them for now.
???: Hey, you!
He turns around at the voice and sees a girl that's a little older than him standing there with her hands and her hips. English
????: Yes, you. You can't bath there. And you can't drink from that fountain.
?????: Why?
????: Because it's dirty. And it's not good. You should take a bath at home.
?????: I don't have a home.
????: What? What about parents?
?????: My mother hates me.
????: Oh! Errrm, would you like to come with us then?
?????: *Vigilant* To where?
????: To our hotel room. My mom and dad are out searching for ghost. So you can come use our shower. We even has food.
?????: No thanks. I'm not hungry *grrrrr*
????: Well, your stomach disagree. C'mon. I will make sure you eat the best food you will ever eat.
As the girl drags his wet body and clothes away, he wonders what is wrong with this girl. He will sneak out after he finish eating and showering.
?????: I'm Danyal
????:Hey Danny, I'm Jazz.
Danny: Danyal. Not Danny.
Jazz: Wasn't that what I say?
Danny: *Gives up* Whatever.
----15 years later----
Danny: Yeah, mom. I'm right in front of Gotham U right now. Ehhh, it's okay but it gives off serious haunted vibe. No. There is no ghost here. I will deal with the ghost here if there is any. I know. I will say hi to Jazz for you. Bye, mom. Love you too dad.
Danny enters Gotham U and true to Sam's rambling, it has the 70s gothic vibe to it. Sam did try to attend here too but her parents make her go to Metropolis U while Tucker goes to Star U. It is kind of weird going to class without them but it is not something he can't do.
As he opens his enters his dormitory, a figure rushes down the hall and accidentally bumps into him. Thankfully, he is fairly strong and the impact isn't strong.
The guy apologizes and immediately disappears at the end of the hallway.
Danny: Huh, what a weirdo.
After he enters the dormitory, he settles down and goes on his day.
---Wayne Manor---
Duke: You wouldn't believe what I just see at Gotham U this morning.
Steph: What?
Duke: I met a guy that look almost identical to Damian. If Damian smiles and his skin a little lighter, that would have been him.
Tim: Are you sure? We could try to do a background check on him if you want?
Duke: Nah. It's probably just a coincidence. There is no way he is somewhat related to Dami.
Tim: Daniel James Fenton. Birth of origin: unknown. 18 years old. Male. Have 2 sisters, a brother and parents. Live in small rural town. The only significant thing about them is that his sister is working at Arkham Asylum and his parents is ghost hunters.
Duke: What the fuck?! How the fuck do you know who to find out?
Tim: *Imitating Batman's voice* I'm Batman.
Duke: Whatever. See! He really does look like Damian. I'm not crazy.
Steph: No one says you are, dude. Anyway, we should show this to Damian. Maybe he knows him?
Damian: What are you all imbeciles talking about?
Tim: Hey, Dami. Look at this guy. Does he looks familiar?
Damian: *Freezes*
Steph: Uh oh. That isn't a no.
Damian: Where do you find him, Drake? Tell me!
Tim: Woah, dude. Chill. Duke bumps into him at Gotham U. He is studying there for Aerospace engineering apparently.
Damian: I need to make a call.
As Damian walks away, all of them look at each other signifying their shared thoughts. Yeah, they are not gonna leave this alone.

I think we in the A:TLA fandom have missed the absolute potential of the fact that Ozai Firelord is canonically a fucking idiot. I mean the dude's straight up stupid. And I want to be very clear that this isn't a plot hole, this isn't a flaw in the show, this is a fantastic and super realistic element that honestly enhances my enjoyment of it! Dictators are often stupid and breed a culture of cronyism-over-competence. Any similarities with real world leaders, dead or alive, are coincidental yet inevitable.
What do I mean?
Well, let's take the Drill. When faced with the problem of Big Wall, Ozai's Fire Nation comes up with Big Drill. One singular Big Drill. Which, as anyone except an idiot could have predicted, immediately breaks down and accomplishes nothing. And if the Fire Nation had made it past the wall, then they would have been fighting through a narrow opening against people who can hurl long distance rocks! Which, if your face or body is vulnerable to high velocity rocks, is a bad thing for you and also for the battle.
Not to mention the resource cost of that thing! It's so insanely gigantic, it must have cost the Fire Nation the equivalent of trillions. For ONE drill. Not ten smaller drills. Just ONE drill. (Fanfic fuel: how much did Ba Sing Se profit off of stripping that drill for parts? Did they reverse engineer it? Did Long Feng keep that for himself?)
And you might be thinking, fairly, that it was War Minister Qin who came up with the drill and you'd be right, but it's Ozai who's approving all this shit. Instead of doing the reasonable thing and asking Qin if he et the whole edible, or even the in-character thing of burning him to death, Ozai just goes... big drill. Makes sense. We should have the biggest drill, because we are the biggest nation. Drill, baby, drill. sorry
It's not the first time, either! He also approves Zhao's invasion of the North Pole, apparently just because Zhao is good at kissing ass and hates Zuko? I couldn't tell you what merits Zhao has. We do not see him lead a single successful mission. The closest he comes is Pohuai, and even then its the Yuyan archers who do most of the work. (My longstanding headcanon is that the reason we don't see the Yuyan archers again is because Zhao blamed the whole thing on them and they were disbanded. This is great fic fuel for displaced Yuyan archers just, wandering around, being elite.)
He approved a massive naval invasion of the North Pole, surrounded by and made of water and ice, inhabited by people who bend water. A nation that was, by its own choice, completely out of the war.
Every time we see Ozai doing something, it's something stupid. Like disfiguring and banishing his firstborn child in a culture that has primogeniture. And then (once he's done pissing away a massive fleet of ships) he does the logical thing and sends his only other heir to bring his first heir back - even though his first heir would have been willing to return with a simple invitation. Like he could have sent a letter saying "dear son come home miss u pick up 200 000 tons of steel qin wants 2 build a drill lol", and Zuko would have come. (Okay, he did have a valid reason for having Zuko escorted, since he thought Iroh was a traitor, but there's absolutely NO reason to risk Azula. Why not send Combustion Man? It's the luckiest stroke of luck ever that Azula is 100 times more competent than her dad.)
Of course, a dictator(-wannabe) sending his daughter on high-level diplomatic missions is pure fiction. Nobody would do that.
The best part of this is that it's entirely realistic and in-character. I could absolutely imagine Ozai purging all of his competent admirals and generals, and then promoting brownnoses like Zhao and crackpots like Qin, because they promised him glorious destinies and secret knowledge of Big Drill.
I also really, really want a scene of Zuko and Azula realizing that their father is a fucking idiot.
I would also like to note that all this stupid shit happens after Iroh leaves with Zuko. So, here's a headcanon: the only reason the Fire Nation didn't immediately implode when Ozai took the throne and purged everyone is because of Iroh. Iroh leaving with Zuko doomed Ozai. It's also a nice little drop of complexity in Iroh's character - he knew he was single-handedly keeping the Fire Nation afloat, yet he only left when Zuko did. Did he plan for Zuko to take the throne from the start? What was his plan before Aang showed up? Did he not intervene in the Agni Kai because he was afraid, or because he knew that Ozai was making a huge mistake and didn't want to interrupt? Give me chessmaster Iroh please.

Safekeeping (Part 2)
Summary: a father loses his mind over a silly little thing that Robby has to deal with, of course. Needless to say, he fucks up when you come into the picture and his judgement gets clouded.
A/N: sorry for the long wait, this is still like setting the ground lmao I'm sorry, promise things will pick up after this one.
Part 1.
Tumblr media
Robby has always tried his best to be approachable.
The irony doesn’t pass him by. He knows what he must look like, 6’1 and sleep deprived all the time, annoyed and at the brink of yelling at the next person who comes to him with a stupid ass remark about patient satisfaction scores or vaccines being harmful or whatever the fuck conspiracy theories are spinning around lately. He would argue being approachable doesn’t equal putting up with bullshit, though.
But he tries, honest. The last thing he would want is to become one of those doctors people pray to avoid rotating with, he knows the feeling. He dreads ever seeing a patient sighing when they notice him approaching, or have a nurse press their lips together whenever they work a case with him.  And he knows the job inevitably gives you nightmares, how could it not? But he hopes he doesn’t have a recurring guest role in his students’ dreams.
The hospital is overwhelmed and understaffed, the nurses are not safe, his new students have gone through the horrors since day fucking one (God, he already sounds like them). There’s no time to sit down and talk, barely time to stuff his mouth full of whatever he can get his hands on to eat, and he doesn’t really check his phone almost in the entire shift. On good days, he finds it hilarious. On bad ones, he doesn’t really get why they’re still trying, why all of them haven’t quit on the spot.
But he’s the one in charge, right? So he has to be approachable.
“Doctor Robby? Could you help me out here? The father keeps telling us he doesn’t want the vaccine to avoid the, uh, ‘tracking device created by the government’?
He takes a deep breath. Well disposed, easy going and approachable, goddammit.
“I’ll be right there.”
Whitaker scurries off and Dana starts laughing her ass off somewhere to his left. He can’t really help it when he starts laughing too, despite covering his mouth and turning away.
At the corners of the entire ER, there are these metallic things that are supposed to serve as mirrors, circular as to give a better perspective of every place. They have cameras too, of course, but he can’t really use the CCTV system to sneak glances at the mother of the babygirl, can he?
He tries to be subtle. Stands in front of the closest with a chart and plays dumb, ignores Dana's teasing smile and Samira's weirded out looks. He finds it interesting that they don't say anything though.
He takes another deep breath and walks to the room with the conspiranoic parent, grabbing the inside of his sweatshirt for dear life.
He doesn’t quite manage to smile, but can anyone blame him?
“Good morning sir, heard we’re having some trouble here. Mind if I help out?”
He already met this man, so he has already decided he doesn’t like him. Still, he keeps his face neutral and bites back the snark and the snapping.
“You’re not getting any injections anywhere near him.”
Ah, of course, not like we already pumped him full of other shit to help with the state you brought him in.
“It would just be a vaccine, sir, nothing more.”
The man scoffs.
Robby doesn’t quite understand people, despite having a career longer than their lifespan. They had to sedate the patient- Dylan, when his father had brought him in with a deep cut that had torn his right thigh and he was so deep in a panic attack he wouldn’t answer a single question they asked, just kept sobbing and screaming while his father kept frowning at him. A piece of rusty metal had done it, after his father had taken him to a wrecking yard for a “fun time”.
Dylan is now laid in bed, with stitches going from the right side of his knee to the upper middle of his thigh. He’s barely ten.
“Yeah sure, how stupid do you think I am?” Very. “I said no.”
Robby nods, turning his head to the side in hopes of hiding the anger. “I understand your decision, but I’m sure you can understand too that we’d rather wait until his mother gets here so she can tell us as much, if she agrees with you. Ultimately, it is her decision.”
Sweet satisfaction spreads through his veins when the man seethes in front of him, clenching his hands by his sides and walking around like a caged animal. “I’m his father.”
It’s so hard for Robby to hold back the shrug, but he manages. “And we’re aware, but we also have registered that the mother has full custody of the boy. I’m sorry, but what she says goes.”
The man in front of him is big, younger than him by at least ten years. If Robby got close to him, he thinks they’d look at each other eye to eye.
That said, he thinks a simple punch would get him on the floor, in case he loses his mind. Not like he can do it though, he’s not about to lose his license over some stupid ass man that has more air than brain inside his skull.
“I could sue you for this.”
His voice rises, setting Robby on high alert in seconds. He gets his hands out of his hoodie and threads them behind his back.
“You are free to do so, sir, but we are following the law and the mother’s wishes. She set on record her consent for vaccines whenever they are required.”
He already feels frustrated by not giving it to him as soon as he arrived. It was a deep cut, deep enough that the cleaning was messy and had made Javadi turn a little pale. McKay had held the little boy’s head while it happened until he passed out, then had asked Robby for her break and ran outside, to the ambulance bay.
“You’re not getting a single fucking thing inside my boy, you hear me?”
It rings louder this time, loud enough that everything seems to quiet down outside the room. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Dana approaching. He takes a few seconds to step back and shake his head, motioning for Mateo instead.
Relief fills him when she doesn’t protest, only to be squished as soon as he notices she turns around and goes to the room you’re in. You’re right outside, standing at the curtain with your hands shaking. Dana grabs you and pushes you inside, closing the blue cloth behind her.
Fuck.
He turns back around, rising his hands with his palms open.
“Sir, please calm down. This is a hospital, there are many other patients here that would appreciate some silence.”
It comes out harsher than he intended. The man walks closer to him, and Robby was right, they meet eye to eye.
Mateo comes inside right then.
“Should I call security?”
Some sort of stupidity must be infecting him today, cause he raises his eyebrow before he speaks. “I don’t know. Should we, sir?”
He braces for impact when the man’s face turns red.
Oh well, at least he’ll have some days off.
You looked so shaken, eyes darting around the room in search of the voice that kept yelling. He never likes to see his patients so unsettled, but God, what he had felt was something else entirely. It was almost like someone was choking him, tied down to the place he’s standing at while he was forced to take the beating.
He’ll go take a look at you right after Langdon fixes his soon to be broken nose, he decides.
“Are you out of your fucking mind, you imbecile?”
A woman comes rushing inside the room, pushing the man that was about to punch him away from Robby.
He won’t admit it to anyone, ever, but he almost cries out of relief. He really likes his nose to be intact.
“Get the fuck out.”
She’s the mother, he notices. They come to the hospital for check ups often enough that he recognises her, even if he’s just treated them once before, after Dylan threw up blood once only to discover it was just a nosebleed that had gone to his stomach.
“I’m not going anywhere, he’s my son too. Where does it say he’s only Sydney’s?”
The mother, apparently Sydney, scoffs. “By law, he is, remember? You don’t have fucking custody and I was stupid enough to allow you to see him, but not anymore. Get the fuck out before I call the cops.”
A few beats pass. Mateo looks at Robby like he has the answer for world peace right at the palm of his hands, so he sighs and gets between them.
“I’m sorry to interrupt, but I need to remind you that this is a hospital and we cannot allow you to have this type of behaviour here. If you don’t stop now, I’m gonna ask you both to leave.”
He seriously thinks he’s about to get tackled to the floor by both of them before Sydney nods and grabs the man by his arm, pulling him away. “I’m sorry, we’ll keep it quiet. Can you tell me what’s going on with Dylan?”
He nods, nodding at Mateo so he can go get McKay and Withaker. “We’ve stitched the wound and had to sedate him to do so, he was in blind panic when they arrived and made it nearly impossible for us to treat him properly. He’ll be fine, one of our doctors will explain further to you. For now, we need to get him a tetanus shot too, to prevent any infection.”
Sydney nods, ignoring the way the father glares at her. Robby’s sure he’ll end up being escorted out of the place sometime soon, but he’ll deal with it later. “He got the full scheme when he was little, if that matters.”
“Unfortunately, since the wound was dirty, we had to stitch it together, and it has been close to ten years, the booster is needed. He’ll be fine more than likely, this is just protocol.”
Once she tells him the go ahead, McKay comes inside smiling at her. Whitaker understandably looks six seconds away from jumping out of his skin.
With a warning look to both of them, he steps outside and tries his best to appear nonchalant as he nearly runs to your room.
His stomach twists in knots when he hears you sniffing inside, but he doesn’t dare go in.
He catches Dana’s soft tone talking to you in reassurance, doesn’t quite get any words but knows how she looks like, bent over by your side, rubbing your back while she holds your hand.
The baby girl is quiet now, probably taking her much needed rest after crying for so long and getting a relief from her colics. He can’t really help it when a smile blooms over his face, picturing you holding her and talking softly. You’re so pretty, but it makes him dizzy to think what you must look like when you’re loving your daughter. There’s something so soft and gentle about you, tender in a way that he didn’t believe possible in times like these. A raw, dormant part inside him wants to jump out and wrap itself around your frame, letting your arms keep the baby close to your chest while he keeps you safe inside his.
He nearly jumps to the roof when Dana steps out and finds him in the middle of the daydream. A nervous laugh bubbles out of him when she raises her eyebrow at him, but he brushes it off and clears his throat.
“So, how’s she doing?”
Dana shrugs. “Better now that you’ve shut that piece of shit up. Good job, doc.”
He preens at the praise, satisfied with helping you feel better in any way possible.
He doesn’t dare ask to go inside, afraid of shaking you further. Still, he thinks he can ride the high of having helped you until he has a chance to see you again.
He doesn’t really expect you to step outside and stare at him with wet eyes, clutching a piece of cloth-a baby’s blanket, he thinks, close to your chest. His legs feel like jelly.
“Are you okay, doctor Robby?”
Dana, that traitor, scurries off, leaving him with his mouth hanging open.
“W-well I-uhm, yes ma’am, don’t worry.” He gives you a shaky smile, so pathetic he can feel his entire face turn red. “All in a day’s work.”
You frown at him. “That’s awful.”
A stupid little nervous laugh leaves his mouth, rubbing his neck subconsciously.
“I hope it didn’t bother you too much, I try-we, we try our best to keep things as calm as possible here.”
You shake your head. And there it is again, that subtle shift between the scared woman he’s dying to take care of and this other version that seems ready to eat the world whole.
“I’m fine, it just set me off a little. It hasn’t been the easiest day today.”
He nods in understanding, wringing his hands while wrecking his brain in hopes of finding a way to keep you here, talking to him for hours and hours and eternity and then more.
“Hopefully we can keep it this way now.”
A sweet smile is gifted to him again.
“I know you’ll try your best, doctor Robby. Thank you.”
You go back inside your room, and he has to brace himself against the wall. Holy fuck.
There is no way he’ll stay with just your name and a one time meeting. He needs to figure something out before you leave, or else he’ll regret it for the rest of his life.

Straight up the more I contemplate this question the more I feel like this the the only possible response
#they all have knives! and swords! and bows and arrows! and poison!#who in this entire story is NOT equipped to the teeth with instruments of death? besides A-Qing#also who besides A-Qing genuinely had the chance to just kill someone previously much more dangerous than her#in a way that would materially make a difference in any one’s life?#sorry I’m coming to the conclusion that the last thing#that this story needs is yet another way for people to inflict violence on one another#lotta people in the comments being like ‘give any female character a gun!’ but why though#who are they going to shoot and when and why and how will it change anything#who is Qin Su shooting and why is she shooting them#she’s a cultivator she has a sword#Madame Jin has a sword. Madame Yu has a sword and lightning whip#Wen Qing has a sword and cool acupuncture needles#most of the women in this story are armed and know how to stab#why would giving them a gun change anything about their choices#they already had violence as an option! they already either used or or didn’t use violence!#why are we giving Yanli a gun#who is she killing#is it Wei Wuxian? after he murdered her husband?#I think if Jiang Yanli wanted to kill things she would have worked harder at the sword the way her mom wanted her to do#if you mean she’d murder JGS..but like…why#what would prompt her. what in the actual story would make her shoot her father in law with a gun#when she did not try to kill him through any other means#she could have killed that man with a frying pan if she wanted to kill. she does not need a gun#I simply think if you gave Jiang Yanli a gun she’d lock it up and never use it#I think if canon Jiang Yanli had a gun she wouldn’t have brought it with her to Nightless City#sorry you guys don’t understand her but you are all wrong#A-Qing would kill though. no hesitation. and good for her.#the untamed

A couple of things that I love and admire about Sylus ♡♡♡
(This got long so decided to add a cut dhdjfj there is just too much to appreciate when it comes to this man ^^;)
For earlier parts in this "series": go here and here
How mentally and emotionally strong he is. His past never broke him or managed to twist or warp his soul. Which considering his background is incredibly impressive. This is a man that suffered severe trauma pretty much from infancy and onward for thousands of years. He is heavily implied to have been abandoned as a child due to being "weak". He self harmed at an early age. He witnessed the total slaughter of the only kin he'd known. He was nearly murdered himself for no other crime than looking different. He was tossed into the abyss to rot for over a millennia, stuck in place with a greatsword lodged through his chest. All of this happened while he was still a juvenile. He most likely hadn't experienced a single day of real happiness or care in his life up until meeting his sorceress. But even before they get properly close, he shows her kindness and compassion despite never having known any himself. We learn that he has never eaten a human soul, nor harmed anyone that didn't deserve it. When he dies, his soul is revealed to smell like flowers. He never lost his innate goodness. In the present, he also shows that same remarkable inner strength and stability, now even more noticeable with added age and further maturity.
How well he takes care of his people. All evidence points to him being an amazing boss and leader. It's especially touching to see how much the twins admire and appreciate him.
The effect he has on those that come under his wings. They all seem to flourish and come out stronger than they were before.
His aura. His scenes in LAR and his entire anecdote gives me chills to this day.
His perfect jawline. It's immaculate.
His honesty. He never lies to MC. Not even once. He doesn't ever whitewash himself and is upfront about his desires and his greed. Similarly, from what we've seen, he honors the deals he makes with anyone seeking his protection (No Way Out, Elysium).
His straightforwardness. On a personal level, as a ND individual, I appreciate this quality in others immensely since reading subtler signals more often than not isn't my forte and tends to stress me out trying to figure out what they are trying to convey to me. So it brings me comfort to see Sylus be straightforward with his feelings for MC. He may not always be direct with his words – both he and MC like to talk in riddles at times – but his actions and his demeanor always are.
His quick thinking and savvy.
Just his sharp intelligence in general. He is always eight or ten steps ahead of his opponents.
His sheer unwavering confidence and charisma. Both enough to fill the mariana trench.
How he is incredibly emotionally mature. He is calm, composed, never abuses the power he has, never lashes out, never loses control of himself. He isn't bitter, doesn't dwell on the past. He isn't brooding or hateful. And when MC tells him he sucks at something (giving a massage in the specific instance I'm thinking of) instead of getting annoyed or taking it personally, he asks her to teach him how to do it. When she says that he is pestering her, he accepts it and gives her the space she says she wants without arguing even a little. We have never once seen him fight with MC over anything. Nor can I even picture a scenaro where they would, try as I might. They're just too chill/emotionally intelligent to get heated or argumentative.
Overall his emotional strength and maturity shows itself best with MC. He definitely made major mistakes in his treatment of her at the start of LAR out of desperation and a misguided belief that the end justifies the means, but the moment he realizes that he has gone too far and that he needs to stop trying to force their past onto her, he stops. Nor does he ever try to manipulate or hold their soulbond over her head (he never even mentions it to her). Instead, he puts his all into building a relationship with the present her from scratch, on her terms, at her pace. He falls in love with and cherishes the present her, just as much as the past her. That is not to say though that all emotional scars have healed. Of course not. Whenever MC unknowingly makes those oddly specific references tied to the shared past she doesn't remember, it's bound to hurt him. But he handles it amazingly, staying composed. And he still aches for her to remember – but I suspect in large part for her sake rather than his. He wants her to know herself entirely, every single part. She deserves to know her history. But crucially, he never pushes the issue. All he does is make gentle references in the hopes that she might remember. But that's all. At the end of the day, on a personal level, if MC never recalls anything, then he'd be fine with that. He is overjoyed just to be a part of her life again, to hold her in his arms.
And imo the probably biggest instance of his maturity and strength? Being willing to let her go, if that is what she desires. Remember that MC represents everything good, beautiful, and joyous in his life. She is the best thing that happened to him. The one person to love, accept, and want him unconditionally. The sole individual to truly see the real him (the only one that dared or cared enough to try). After his resurrection he has yearned and searched the galaxies for her for an unknown but more than likely vast amount of years. And yet... he is willing to let go, for her sake. Even though it would destroy him on the inside. Because she is so much more important than his own desires.
Following on with the maturity theme, I admire the way he approaches losing. He isn't a sore loser but bears it with ease of mind, which isn't always the case with people like Sylus who are used to coming out on top. But to him, whether he wins at a competition or not doesn't affect his confidence or self worth, and he can readily acknowledge when he's been fairly beaten by an opponent. The only time he truly cares about winning is if MC wants him to. And then he'll make sure to win no matter what.
Another thing I admire is how he is so willing to adapt and adjust for MC and the love he bears her. For instance, Sylus is not by nature or temeprament a patient man. He wants to get things done and wants them done fast. A good example of this is in the most recent event, where he does not have the patience to let flowers grow naturally and so tries to force the process. However, when it comes to MC? He is willing to wait infinite lifetimes. He always walks at her pace when it comes to their relationship, and never pressures her. He gives her as much time as she needs to figure her feelings out. He is an impatient man willing and ready to be endlessly patient for his beloved
For all that he is down bad for MC, Sylus isn't a doormat nor spineless in regards to her. He won't just mindlessly agree and go along with whatever she wants but has a strong will, agenda, and boundaries of his own. He teases and bullies MC (affectionately), gives as good as he gets from her, and doesn't hesitate to call her out and/or fluster her for his own amusement. Leading to the banter we all know and love.
His ability to truly self reflect and grow. I am referencing what happens in and after LAR 1-8, where he disappears for a while after having gotten hit by a harsh but necessary reality check. My belief is that he went away initially to cry, but that he also did some major self reflecting. Afterwards, his behavior toward MC changes quite dramatically. He realized that he fucked up, and is determined to do and be better for her. And he never falters. We stan a person that recognizes they fucked up and learns from it. His character development and growth in general mean a lot to me.
How incredibly skilled he is at driving those mototcycles of his. No wonder MC feels safe riding with him no matter how fast they go or how dangerous the terrain.
That his crimes never affect innocents. Sylus has always made it a point only to harm or kill those who truly deserve it.
Despite how he claims never to have comforted anyone before, he is touchingly good at it. He is incredibly emotionally intelligent and attentive. He is always so quick to pick up on how MC is feeling, and he also knows when it's best to give advice, when it's best to act (ie send her something to comfort her, take her on a joyride etc), or when it's best to simply listen and be there for her. Most of the time he is incredibly in tune with her feelings and her needs.
And he can be so achingly tender when he comforts her. A great example of this is in Where Hearts Live, when at one point MC feels embarrassed and insecure about verbalizing how she feels. He is so patient and gentle, holding her close in his lap and rocking her, softly reassuring her that she can talk to him, that he wants to hear what she has to say. And there are other examples of his kindness, such as with animals and plants. A huge reason why this is so admirable to me is that Sylus is a man that has lived a rough life, and with few exceptions seen and dealt with the worst humanity has to offer. He has had precious few opportunities to witness or experience goodness or tenderness from others. And yet he has no trouble being either to those he cares for. It comes so naturally from him. Again, further proof that he has always at his core been compassionate and kind, and that those qualities have withstood throughout all the hardship and violence.
Lastly, I (naturally) greatly admire his hands. They are mesmerizing. Large and rough, yet elegant and beautiful. I can stare at them for hours and never get tired.
Ok I lied I also need to add his veins. Both on his hands and on his bulging arms.

Oh oh oh!
Will bucky have a special golden egg (larger than the rest of the eggs) that has cash 💵 inside instead of candy? Who ever finds it first gets to keep the cash! 🐇🐣
Considering this is Bucky we're talking about, all the easter eggs had one of the three : cash, jewelry or candies.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Mafia!Bucky x Reader, daughter nicknamed Bumblebee.
A/N: Easter fic teaser.
Tumblr media
"Ooh monies," Bee cheers, cracking the easter egg open before carefully closing it and dropping it in her basket. A few seconds later. "Ooh pwetty rings."
Its been ten minutes of this and she responds the same way each time she get new "treasures".
Bucky went overboard and had the backyard covered in easter eggs of various sizes and colors. So many were scattered between the back door and the edge of the yard that Bee was already on her second basket.
"You know it's not really a hunt if she's surrounded by eggs, Bucky." You lean against his chest, watching with amusement as Bee and Frankie swap eggs and immediately stumble across five more.
Bucky hums in his throat, placing one hand in his pocket. "You didn't specify how challenging it had to be so it was left up to me. You know I don't like my girls having to work too hard."
He catches the glimpse of a smile fighting it's way past your lips even as you roll your eyes.
"Besides with her occupied that gives me time to give you your present," he teases, pausing to softly kiss your neck. "Unless you don't want it," his voice skated across your skin.
You mull your response, temptation sweeping through your veins, calling you to give in. Your eyes follow the toddlers roaming the backyard, gazes laser focused on the dark green grass beneath them. Bee leans over, grabbing two lavender eggs, her growing collection almost tipping out of her basket.
"Lookit pink stawburts. My favorites," Bee says, jumping up and down, like she doesn't have a basket full of her favorite candies sitting on one of the benches. "What you get Frankie?"
Bucky hums again, drawing your attention back to him. "I can always take it back."
You scoff. This man has never taken a gift back. He's hidden new necklaces in your vanity, given Bee matching items so you couldn't say no to whatever he splurged on, left things in your purse and have the audacity to look shocked and confused when you asked him how they got there.
But take back a gift? He doesn't know how to do that.
"Let me see it, Barnes," you reply, heart warming when you feel him smile against your neck.
"Anything for you. Malyshka," he murmurs in return, revealing his hand, a charm bracelet dangles between his fingers. A little chubby bumblebee, an easel, the Barnes family emblem and a pair of miniature wedding rings are nestled between the easter themed charms. It's a gorgeous piece that just so happens to match the dress you're wearing.
"It's beautiful," you say, lifting your wrist. He closes the delicate clasp with ease, so used to putting jewelry on your body.
"Yes you are." This time you can't stop the grin from pulling at your lips even when you see him smirk. He's good and he knows you know how good he is.
For a few moments, the two of you stay like that. Your newest charm bracelet warm on your skin, a gentle breeze fluttering the bottom of your dress and Bucky's chin on your shoulder, the two of you watching Bee and Frankie run around the yard finding brightly colored eggs, excited for each one.
Bucky would have never guessed what would happen next. Neither would you.

Tumblr media
She’s standing in the kitchen, barefoot on tile, a half-filled grocery list balanced on her palm and a pen tucked between her fingers. There’s a smudge of ink near her knuckle where she pressed too hard writing “milk (again)” and a half-eaten apple next to her elbow.
She tapped the pen against her chin and called out it in what she hoped was his general direction. “Anything you want? I’m headed to the shop today.”
The man didn’t even glance over. “Nah, don’t worry about me. I’ll eat at home.”
She blinked. “What home?”
“Mine?”
“Oh, is that what we’re calling it now? Bold of you to act like you don’t live here part-time.”
“I don’t live here. I just visit. Often. And sleep on your couch sometimes. And eat your snacks.”
“Right. Like a polite, British raccoon.”
She could hear the dull thump of him flipping a cushion over and resettling. Y/N shook her head and capped the pen before turning, leaning her hip against the counter to get a better look at him.
He was sprawled on the couch, hoodie slightly askew, curls crushed on one side from a nap he definitely took while she was in the shower. He was watching her lazily now, like she was some interesting artwork he still hadn’t decided the interpretation of yet.
He raised a brow at her, unbothered. “I’ve been busy.”
“Uh-huh.” She jotted something else down. “With my fridge.”
“Your fridge is elite. It feeds me. It listens when I talk. It’s never judgmental.”
“It’s empty,” she replied, dry. “Because you keep eating all my stuff!”
“That’s on you, really. For buyin’ food that tastes good.”
Even though he couldn’t see her, she rolled her eyes on principle. “So, again. Anything you want?”
He yawned, blinking the leftover sleep from his eyes. She tried not to stare at them too long.
“Don’t fuss, I’ll live,” he waved her off.
She looked at him over the top of her list, unimpressed. “Look, either you tell me what you want, or you come with me and pick it out yourself.”
That certainly got his attention. He blinked, propping himself a bit more upright against the back of the couch.
“You want me to come… grocery shoppin’?”
“No, I want you to stay here and text me cryptic things like ‘grab snacks’ and then complain when I don’t buy the right ones.”
He grined. “Hey, that was one time.”
“Three times,” she insisted. “And I still don’t know how you made that much of a fuss over cheerios. Cheerios!”
“They were sad circles,” he muttered.
“You’re a sad circle.”
He smirked. She narrowed her eyes, thinking.
“Fine. Come with me then. Pick out your own stupid cereal. Or snacks. Or whatever it is you pretend you don’t want and then steal from my cabinet.”
She expected some sarcastic brush-off, or a mumbled excuse about being busy. Instead, he stretched his arms above his head and yawned theatrically.
“Alright. I’ll come.”
That made her pause. She glanced up from the list, surprised to find him already looking at her. “Wait, really?”
“You said I could come.”
“Like, for grocery shopping.”
“Isn’t that what you just said?”
“Yeah, but you’re agreeing. Without protest. That’s usually grounds for suspicion.”
He shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal. “Now why would I deprive you of my wonderful company, hm, sweetheart?”
She makes a face and flips her notepad shut. “And look at that, he’s humble too.”
“I know! I’m the total package, really.”
“Oh, you’re something, alright.” She’s trying not to smile, but it sneaks through anyway. “Also you have to wear proper sneakers. Those fancy dress shoes of yours won’t save you from slipping in the produce aisle.”
“Oh?” He grinned, finishing the last of his morning tea before he got up to put his shoes on. “That sounds a bit specific. You gonna tell me the story behind that, or will I have to force it out of you?”
“It was a tactical slide,” she mumbled quietly, already defensive. “I was testing the floor.”
“You fell, didn’t you?”
 “...Into a stack of lemons.”
“Well, now we know they bruise easily,” he laughed, watching her cheeks turn pink.
She shook her head, turning away before he could see the way her expression softens. He was coming with her. Maybe that didn’t mean anything.
Or maybe it meant enough.
Tumblr media
The sliding glass doors of the grocery store swooshed open, and Lando hesitated on the threshold like he’d stepped into another country.. He stuck close to her side, trying to act casual, but his eyes flicked around like a tourist in a new city.
She, on the other hand, pulled her trolley with practiced ease. It was a little squeaky, but she simply kicked the wheel, and it was suddenly good as new. She started to throw a few basics into the cart — butter, milk, bread — before she had to turn back when she noticed that Liam was still frozen like a deer in headlights.
“...This is it?” he asked.
She looked over, eyebrow raised. “What were you expecting? A red carpet? Spotlights?”
He blinked up at the fluorescent lighting. “I don’t know. I guess I thought grocery stores had, like… more drama.”
“What does that even mean?”
“Dunno. Thought there’d be a big wheel of cheese or something. That’s what I imagined as a kid. This place is kind of underwhelming.”
“That’s because it’s a supermarket, not a Bond film.”
Still, she couldn’t help the grin pulling at her mouth as he trailed after her, pushing the cart with more focus than strictly necessary, eyes darting across shelves like he was trying to figure out the logic of it all.
“Why are the carrots all in bags?”
Liam squinted at the wall of orange like it was a code he was supposed to crack, before he made a disgusted face. “And why are some of them hairy?”
“They’re not hairy,” she said, amused, nudging the cart forward. “They’ve just got roots. It means they’re fresh.”
“Right,” he says dubiously, poking at one with his index finger like it might bite him. “That seems fake.”
She furrowed her brows, shooting him a worried expression. “What, you think carrots come waxed and perfectly orange from the ground?”
“I wouldn’t know,” he says honestly, and she glanced at him, more curious than judgmental.
She watched as he trailed behind the cart, gaze drifting over shelves like it’s a museum, eyes snagging on price tags and multipack deals like he’s never seen a grocery store before. He doesn’t reach for anything himself, just keeps pace with her, occasionally making faces at the labels.
Idiot.
Tumblr media
He looked so serious standing next to the pasta.
“There are… so many kinds.”
She tries her best to hold back a laugh, but with limited success. He just looked so adorably lost.
Liam picked up a bag of rigatoni, turned it over like it might give him directions.
“What do you even do with these? They look like pipes.”
“Cook them, Li. Like a normal human person.”
He put it back, unimpressed. “Too much work.”
She rolled her eyes, already grabbing a box of fettuccine and tossing it into the cart.
They kept moving, and he noticed things.
Little things.
The way she’d linger at one shelf and then trade whatever she picked for the store brand. Or how she’d turn something over in her hand — cookie butter, frozen berries, good Greek yogurt — look at the price, and then gently set it back down without another glance.
She never said anything about it. Just… kept walking, focused and practical.
But whenever he picked something — sugary cereal, overpriced fruit, dumb snacks that just looked fun—she never said a word about those, never even glanced twice at them let alone put it back.
Sometimes she teased his tastes, sure – “That’s not trail mix, that’s a cry for help.” But she never once made him switch his things out for something cheaper.
It sat weird in his chest. He wasn’t sure why.
They were halfway through the produce aisle when he nudged her shoulder.
“Hey.”
“Hm?”
“You didn’t grab that yoghurt you like.”
She blinked, then shrugged. “Maybe next week. Not this time.”
“What? Why not?”
She snorted. “Because I like paying rent.”
He opened his mouth to argue but she’d already turned to inspect a bunch of bananas. She looked over her shoulder and saw the furrow in his brow.
“Relax. I’m not dying, Liam. I’m just budgeting.”
Beside her, he went quiet for a moment, contemplative.
“You’ve really never done this, have you?” she asked softly, halfway down the spice aisle.
“I mean, I’ve been inside a grocery store,” he defended. “Just not… this part. Not with a list. Or a trolley. Or… the intent to budget.”
“Yeah, I noticed,” she said, smiling faintly as she placed the store-brand cheese in the cart and put the fancy one back on the shelf.
But when she turned, he was still looking at her.
“Do you always do that? Swap stuff out for the cheaper version?”
She hesitated, then shrugged. “Well, when you’ve got six bucks left in your bank account, you do a lot of math in the cereal aisle.”
Lando furrowed his brow.
“That’s... that’s a thing? I mean, does it really matter?”
She shrugged, tossing something else into the cart. “If it’s only a few cents, not so much. But if you’re on a budget, it adds up. It’s the difference between getting snacks for the week or just dinner.”
He paused, watching her. She had the same neutral, measured tone she’d use when she explained the different drinks to a customer at the café — like it was all no big deal, just the reality of things. But to him? It was like he’s seeing behind a curtain he never noticed before.
“Weird,” he muttered, mostly to himself. “Seems exhausting.”
She rolled her eyes, but there's a softness in her smile.
“You get used to it. Don’t tell me you’ve never had to budget for something.”
He gave her a look. “I... no, not really.”
She snorted, amused. “That explains a lot.”
She’d laughed of course, but for once, Lando’s mind wasn’t focused on that. Something flickered across his face — shame, maybe, or perhaps realization. But he didn’t comment on it. At least, not out loud.
Instead, he glanced into the cart again.“So why haven’t you told me to swap my stuff out?”
“You mean like the bougie almond chocolate clusters you added?”
“They’re elite, thank you very much” he said, clutching the bag to his chest in mock offense.
She laughed, shakes her head. “I figured if you're coming, you get to pick what you like. Budgeting is my problem, not yours, Liam.”
It landed heavier than she meant it to, but he didn't call her on it. He just walked a little closer after that, watching her more carefully. He let his arm graze against hers, choosing not to comment when she picked up avocados and then put them back because they were too soft. He noticed her pause at her favorite crisps, and then reach for a cheaper bag instead.
Tumblr media
By the time they both reached the checkout, he’d gone noticeably quiet. Not in a moody way, just thoughtful.
She started pulling items from the cart onto the belt, muttering totals under her breath like it’s muscle memory, making sure each item was accounted for. He zoned back in only when she got to the end and started fishing for her wallet.
As the cashier continued to scan, she pulled out her card without hesitation. And Lando, just as casually, reached forward and tapped his before she could blink.
He stepped forward casually, card already out. “I’ve got it.”
She blinked. “No. No, you don’t– Liam– no, seriously–”
“I insisted on the elite chocolate clusters, yeah?” he said breezily. “Consider it my penance.”
“You can’t just pay for my groceries like it’s a takeaway. This stuff’s expensive—”
“Sure I can.” His tone was still light, but there was a hint of something else in it, a bit of quiet determination. “You feed me. Let me feed you back.”
She opened her mouth to argue, but something about the way he said it, like it wasn’t just about food at all – made her stop.
He went ahead and put in the security pin for his black American Express card, the register beeping once in confirmation. She exhaled, torn between touched and annoyed, but mostly just a little soft.
“Liam.”
“Y/N.”
“That wasn’t a competition. I can pay for myself, you know.”
“Wasn’t trying to win. Just figured if I’m gonna live in your fridge, I should at least pay rent.”
“You—” she stared at him, speechless for a moment. “You are so annoying.”
“You’re welcome.”
“I didn’t ask you to—”
“Don’t care.”
She tried to frown but it came out crooked, somehow fond.
Maybe it was a trick of the light, but he liked having her look at him like that.
And when she looked at Liam, he just looked smug. But quiet, too – he didn’t make a big deal out of it. He didn’t expect some grand thank you or a gold star.
They walked out side by side, her bag slung over one shoulder, his hand casually holding the other.
“Fine,” she muttered. “But you’re still carrying everything up the stairs!”
“Of course. I wouldn’t dare think otherwise. Anything else, princess?
She rolled her eyes as they headed for the exit, but once again she couldn't quite bite back the smile tugging at her lips. She seemed to be doing that a lot lately, she’d noticed – smiling like an idiot over stupid things, things she didn’t remember finding nearly as amusing before.
Lando noticed. There wasn’t much he didn’t notice when it came to her. She laughed, and this time, it was him who turned to look. Just for a moment. Like maybe, just maybe, this whole thing — shopping carts, pasta, her — was a dream that might not feel so far away after all.
“You’re impossible,” she huffed, shoving him playfully with her elbow since her hands were a bit preoccupied.
He looked over at her, his expression softening for a second as he grabbed the receipt.
“Oh, please. You love it.”
She smiled to herself, like a secret just for her
Maybe she did.
Tumblr media
She stood at the counter, staring at the ingredients she'd just bought. Dried basil, tomatoes, a bottle of parmesan, and even fresh garlic, which was definitely a step up from the stale garlic powder she’d just finished using last week. A warm, homey feeling settled over her as she inhaled the earthy smell of the herbs. Maybe it was the rain, maybe it was the quiet, but something about it felt tangibly comforting.
The rain had settled into a steady rhythm outside her windows, soft enough to be soothing, loud enough to justify a cozy evening in. Her kitchen, small and usually quiet, felt suddenly full—with the scent of fresh basil and garlic, and the presence of one very unhelpful young man.
“Do not touch that,” she warned, pointing a wooden spoon at him without turning from the stove.
Behind her, Lando froze mid-bite, a suspiciously square cube of cheese caught between his fingers.
“I wasn’t going to.”
“You literally were already doing it.”
“I was testing it. For poison. Very noble of me, really.”
“Right. My hero.”
He popped it in his mouth anyway, shameless, and leaned back against the counter like he belonged there. Like he hadn’t just eaten a chunk of the cheese she needed for the pasta.
She grabbed the cutting board and started mincing garlic, her mind wandering.
"How does pasta sound for dinner?" she muttered, more to herself than anyone else. "It's been a while."
From across the kitchen, Liam poked his head around, looking a bit too much like an excited puppy, just without the wagging tail.
“You makin’ food? I can help.”
She glanced over her shoulder, met with his eager eyes.
“It’s alright, Li. I’ve got it.”
“Nonsense.” He drawled, his voice teasing, but his expression was dead serious. “I am a pro in the kitchen.”
She chuckled, turning back to the garlic on the cutting board. “Right. You’ve cooked before?”
“Uh... well.” He hesitated. “Here n’ there, you know how it is. Probably more than you though.”
She raised an eyebrow, skeptical. “You want to bet?”
He walked over and leaned on the counter, watching her chop, completely ignoring the pan on the stove where the oil was already heating.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure I could teach you a few things. Like how to avoid burning garlic,” he said, a smug little grin curling at the corner of his lips.
Before she could respond, she heard a faint crinkle, followed by a too-loud sizzle.
“Shit!”
He only laughed, while Y/N quickly scrambled to turn the heat to the lowest setting so that she wouldn’t end up burning dinner before dinner had even started. Once she was able to take a sigh of relief, she pressed a relieved palm to her chest, breathing deeply.
Maybe if he wasn’t so distracting–
Wait.
It was way too quiet.
“Liam!”
When she turned around, he was halfway through a slice of mozzarella cheese, the piece he’d swiped clearly meant for the sauce, his face lighting up with satisfaction.
“What? You said you were cooking. Thought that meant I was in charge of quality control. I’m bein’ helpful, you know.”
“That was for the pasta, dumbass!”
“It’s delicious, though.” He shrugged, utterly unbothered. “No big deal. I’ll just, y’know... fix it.”
She turned back to the stove just in time to smell the garlic before it could start to sizzle too much again. In a panic, she grabbed the pan, shaking it slightly to cool the oil, while Lando watched from the counter.
“You do realize, that was your fault, right? I was just getting into my groove.”
“Your… groove?” He pretended to contemplate for a second before shaking his head, a wide grin splitting across his face. “Sounds fake.
She shot him a look, but he was already back to the counter, grabbing another small lump of cheese.
“You really want to help, don’t you?” She sighed, exasperated but fond.
“Of course I do.” He came over, dropping a few more chunks of cheese into the sauce pot. “S’what I’m doing,” he said, in the same tone someone would say duh.
“You’re helping? That’s news to me.”
He blinked owlishly, with exaggerated innocence. “M’ taste testin’ everythin’, of course.”
Y/N glared at him, but that only made him laugh. “I’m just trying to help. I’m a good guy, remember?”
She rolled her eyes, reaching for a wooden spoon. “Yeah, I remember. You’re a ‘good guy’ who swipes my cheese and tries to burn my food. Useless, you are”
“You wouldn’t even know how good I am unless I helped, though.” His grin was teasing. “I mean, look at this sauce. It’s gonna be perfect, angel.”
She glanced at him just in time to catch him swallowing the last of yet another bit of cheese. She turned back to the stove with a muttered, “Unbelievable.”
I give up.
“You’re welcome.”
“For what? Sabotaging my dinner?”
“Enhancing it. With flair. Personality. Drama.”
“You’re about to enhance the floor with your face if you keep talking.”
“Aww, you flatter me.” He grinned and strolled over, peeking over her shoulder. “What’s this bit?”
“Garlic. I’m sautéing it,” she explained, her eyes flitting to his, the flecks of gold glimmering back at her as something soft and weighty settled over her. Like a nice comforter, she thought.
“Looks like it’s about to catch fire.”
Shit. How does this keep happening?
“Because you’re distracting me!”
She hissed and quickly turned down the flame, stirring the garlic before it blackened. Lando winced, hands raised in surrender.
“Sorry. Sorry. Very serious chef business. I’ll shut up.”
He did not, in fact, shut up.
He was still talking as she chopped tomatoes, still talking as he offered to stir and then immediately flung sauce onto the backsplash. He was still talking when she asked him to hand her the pasta, and he held it hostage until she agreed to let him pick the playlist for dinner.
But eventually – finally, eventually – she softened. Especially when he leaned a little too close trying to smell the sauce and got tomato on his shirt.
“That’s what you get,” she said, the sternness in her voice not matching the care with which she dabbed his sweater with a damp paper towel.
I’d ruin a thousand expensive sweaters if it meant you’d touch me with such gentleness each time.
“Didn’t even flinch. You’re getting used to me.”
“Or I’m building a resistance, like a virus.”
“Romantic.”
She snorted, giving him a playful shove with her hip.
Tumblr media
As she plated the food, the rain picking up in a gentle percussion outside, he watched her with a quiet curiosity. Something softened in his gaze. He noticed, maybe, how methodical she was. How calm. How she hummed without realizing. How this, all of it—dinner, rain, soft light—felt like a life.
Not something he’d ever known, but something he was beginning to desperately want to know more of.
She handed him a dish and flopped into her favorite armchair. He’d told her a thousand times to get rid of that ancient thing, that he’d happily take her to get something better, yet ho couldn’t count on two hands the number of times he’d found her curled up in that same spot, study or scrolling or dozed off unintentionally.
He liked knowing her favorite spot.
“My sister always used to ask for this when it rained,” she said casually, interrupting his thought as she swirled her fork in the pasta. “Said it was ‘good food weather.’”
“She’s right.”
“You didn’t even taste it yet.”
“I meant the vibe. But yeah, probably the food too.”
She laughed softly. The kind of laugh that felt like an exhale. Then:
“When I moved here, I used to cook too much. Like… way too much. Didn’t know how to portion for one person. Used to give the rest to the neighbors or just eat it cold the next day.”
“That’s kind of sad.”
“It was,” she admitted. “But I like cooking. Makes the place feel… alive, I guess. Kinda like a real home, you know?”
Lando took a bite then, chewing thoughtfully. He looked up at her, eyes warm.
I wonder what it’d take for me to give you a real home.
“Well, this one’s perfect. Even with the distinct lack of cheese.”
“Gee, thanks.”
“I mean, it could use a bit more cheese—”
She threw her napkin at him.
Tumblr media
The TV flickered in the corner, casting slow, shifting light across the room. Some wildlife documentary murmured in the background—lions in tall grass, a monotone narrator talking about territory and belonging—but neither of them were really listening. They were stretched across the couch, tangled by comfort rather than touch: her legs curled under her, his shoulder tilted back against the cushion, her head resting against his chest.
Lando wasn’t even sure when they’d gotten like this. He just knew he hadn’t wanted to move. Still didn’t.
The room smelled faintly of garlic and basil from earlier. Rain still tapped gently against the windows. It was the kind of night that didn’t need much. Just presence.
She was stretched out across the couch, limbs heavy from the rain and pasta and comfort. He hadn’t meant to stay this long, but the hours had blurred into each other, soft and quiet and safe.
The silence between them wasn’t awkward. It rarely was. If anything, it was the kind of silence that felt rare — like the world forgot about them for a while. Like they could exist in this small pocket of space and not have to explain themselves.
After a long pause, she murmured, barely above a whisper, “Do you ever think this is strange?”
Lando shifted slightly, looking down at the top of her head. Her face was turned slightly toward him, half-lidded eyes catching his. He blinked, slow.
“No. Why?”
“I don’t know,” she said, fingers gently playing with the cuff of his sweatshirt. “Just… do.”
“We’re not strange,” he said, a little too fast. He tilted his head, brows drawn slightly.  “It makes sense.”
She raised an eyebrow, amused. “How do you figure?”
“Dunno. It just–  just does.”
She laughed, her whole body shaking gently against the weight of him. “Thanks, Sherlock.”
He smiled, that lazy crooked kind he did when he wasn’t trying too hard. “I just mean, like… we talk, right? And it, like, works. So, y’know…”
“Gee, just what every girl dreams of hearing,” she teased, poking him.
“I’m serious, though!” he insisted, shifting a little under her. “I tell you loads of things all the time.”
She turned her face into his chest slightly. “No you don’t, dummy. You like being mysterious too much for that.”
“I’m not mysterious,” he protested, offended in that fake way he knew would make her laugh. “I’m, like… normal.”
She laughed then—soft and a little wistful. “I’m not sure anything about us is normal.”
She laughed softly at her own words, but he didn’t laugh with her. He went quiet instead. And when the silence stretched a little too long, she shifted, heart thudding faintly at the idea she’d struck a nerve.
The room went still. The flicker of the TV washed over them in dim pulses. She noticed he hadn’t replied.
She blinked, worried suddenly that she’d struck something too deep. So she pushed herself up a little, reaching instinctively for his shoulder.
“Wait—I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant that—”
“If this isn’t normal…” he interrupted, voice softer, smaller than she’d ever heard it, “…is that bad? I kinda like it like this. Not normal.”
The words landed somewhere deep in her chest.
She paused. Lando didn’t look at her. He was staring straight ahead, as if admitting that was hard. As if he wasn’t used to speaking things that close to the heart out loud.
“I kinda like it like this,” he added, voice quieter still. “Not normal.”
She couldn’t help it. Her heart melted at the honesty of it.
She settled back down beside him, this time a little closer as she exhaled softly, more a thoughtful hum than anything. Her features softened instantly, lips curling into a sleepy smile, her body resting back against him.
“Hmm,” she whispered. “I can do not normal.”
He let out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. She settled back down against him, head resting lightly on his chest now. His hand moved almost instinctively to her back, warm and slow and steady.
She dozed off with her arm wrapped around his torso, her hand resting on his ribs.
Still, he stayed awake longer than he meant to, watching the way her face relaxed into sleep. He didn’t move – he couldn’t bring himself to.
A few minutes passed. Maybe more.
And when he was sure she was asleep — eyes fluttered shut, lips parted just barely—he dipped his head just enough to press a gentle kiss to her forehead. Let it linger.
Then, quieter than a prayer:
And then, when he was finally absolutely sure she was asleep – her eyes fluttered shut, lips parted just barely – the room grew quiet and the storm softened outside. Only then did he lean forward, just enough to press the barest, most gentle of kisses to her forehead.
“I’m not a religious person,” he whispered, so low it felt like a prayer, “but sometimes I do think God made you for me.”
She didn’t stir. But his heart did something dangerous in his chest.
He didn’t stop it.

Steve cleared his throat after exchanging a look with Sam. “So, to recap, you were looking for Alpine and she was just… snuggled with a complete stranger?” He waited for a beat. “In the middle of a sidewalk at night?” “Yes, that’s exactly what she did,” Bucky said through his teeth. His friend was old, but not hard of hearing.
Hahaha I can't with the old joke😂
“A sweet stranger who said you were the hottest man she had ever seen in her life?” Sam smirked. Yes, that was what you said and Bucky hadn’t forgotten it. Nor would he admit to his friends how nice the compliment made him feel the more he repeated your words in his mind. “And she snuggled with Alpine? Pictures, or it didn’t happen.”
Of course Bucky hasn't forgotten and Sam is a "picture or it didn’t happen" guy 😅
Bucky made a face. Why would he make something like that, or you, up? Did he really not believe him?  “Why the hell would I take a photo of her? That’s something a creep would do, and I’m not a creep,” he snapped, thinking about it while Sam chuckled. Grumpy with his share of issues, yes, but he was not a creep. “But there were security cameras outside of her building. Hacking the system wouldn’t be too difficult if you really wanted to see what happened.” “You’re not going to hack anything,” Steve said, trying to be the voice of reason. It wouldn’t be the worst crime committed if he did. “I think Sam meant the picture thing as a joke.” “No, I didn’t,” Sam said.
They crack me up with all the discussion about pictures, no pictures or Hacking to get pictures 😂 I feel like this discussion is so spot on for the dynamic of the 3 of them 😅
“Listen, I’m not saying this… dream girl or whatever you want to call her doesn’t exist, but I do have to ask.” Sam had a shit-eating grin on his face. “Did she really boop you on the nose?” If Bucky clenched his jaw any tighter he would’ve cracked his teeth. “She did. Twice.”
To be fair that does sound so silly that it sounds fake 🤷🏻‍♀️😅
Steve looked like he was trying not to laugh and Sam didn’t bother hiding it. Why did he trust these punks with anything? “Okay…” Sam held his side as his laughter died down. “I have to meet her so I can ask where she got the balls to do that and say ‘you’re welcome’ for accidentally letting Alpine out so you two could meet.”
Valid 😅
“Well, with that attitude…” Sam mumbled, which Bucky pointedly ignored. It wasn’t like he was trying to be pessimistic, but getting his hopes up wouldn’t help either. “If I didn’t know any better, it sounds like Alpine isn’t the only one who liked her.”
Oh we have a Sherlock Holmes on out hands 🤭
Steve tried to catch his eye. “Do you like her, Buck?”
And Steve is so sensible about it 🥹
Sam sighed when Bucky didn’t respond. “Can you message her? Tell her Alpine’s trying to get out to see her?”
That would be a good opener
Alpine batted her paw against his chest and meowed, sensing the subtle shift in his mood. “What would you suggest, Al? That I just walk you up and down her sidewalk with you until she comes out?” Silence filled the living room. Was he really asking his cat for advice on how to see you again? Jesus fucking Christ, he needed help and he was already seeing a therapist.
I don't think it's so wrong to ask Al in this case, it was her fault to begin with this situation, I think she would have great intel🤷🏻‍♀️
Steve shrugged after a minute went by. “...It’s not a bad idea.” Sam snorted. He was enjoying this way too much. “Or you could just start by finding her on social media like a normal person since she at least gave you her name.”
There are decades between them and it shows in exactly that moment 🤭😅
Sam’s smile fell. “It’s weird to add her on social media, but it’s not weird to walk up and down her sidewalk like a wolf stalking its prey or talk about hacking the cameras of her building?”
He is calling them and their old ways out rn hahah
And if he couldn’t figure out a way himself, he had a feeling Alpine would take matters into her own paws.
Yes!! Queen Alpine 👏🏻

Steve and Sam sat across from Bucky on the couch, blankly staring at him once he finished his story. He stared back with a scowl and was pretty sure Alpine was scowling at them, too, daring them to tell him that he was making the whole thing up about what happened earlier. That he didn’t encounter a beautiful drunk stranger snuggling with his cat. That you didn’t seem at all intimidated by his presence. That he couldn’t get your smile or voice out of his head.
Wait, he didn’t tell them that last part and he sure as hell wasn’t going to.
Steve cleared his throat after exchanging a look with Sam. “So, to recap, you were looking for Alpine and she was just… snuggled with a complete stranger?” He waited for a beat. “In the middle of a sidewalk at night?”
“Yes, that’s exactly what she did,” Bucky said through his teeth. His friend was old, but not hard of hearing.

Grumpy with his share of issues, yes, but he was not a creep. “But there were security cameras outside of her building. Hacking the system wouldn’t be too difficult if you really wanted to see what happened.”
Was that creepy? It wasn’t like he was trying to get feed to watch you or to see your beautiful face again. It was to prove to Sam that he wasn’t lying about what happened, nothing more. Not that he had anything to prove. He was telling the truth. It wasn’t his fault if Sam didn’t believe him.
“You’re not going to hack anything,” Steve said, trying to be the voice of reason. It wouldn’t be the worst crime committed if he did. “I think Sam meant the picture thing as a joke.”
“No, I didn’t,” Sam said.
Steve held a hand up when Bucky’s fists curled. “What he means is we’re surprised because, besides you, Alpine doesn’t usually cuddle with people right away. She likes us, but it took her time to do that.”
“Yeah, well, she’s obviously different,” the brunette mumbled, scratching behind Alpine’s ears. “Alpine really liked her.”
Alpine purred in agreement, bringing a small smile out of the former assassin. Though part of him still wondered if you put some sort of spell over his cat to get her to warm up so quickly, he knew that wasn’t it. She was a good judge of character, so she had to take a liking to you since you were a friendly person. It was either that or she decided that you needed her to look out for you. And by extension that meant he had to look out for you, too. Someone had to.
Fuck, now he did feel like a creep with that train of thought.
“Listen, I’m not saying this… dream girl or whatever you want to call her doesn’t exist, but I do have to ask.” Sam had a shit-eating grin on his face. “Did she really boop you on the nose?”
If Bucky clenched his jaw any tighter he would’ve cracked his teeth. “She did. Twice.”
“You’re not going to meet her or ask her anything,” Bucky said, looking up at the ceiling. “Because I probably won’t see her again.”
It didn’t make sense why his heart ached so much at the thought of not crossing your path again. He didn’t know you, and you didn’t know him. Fairy tales and meet cutes or whatever they were called didn’t exist in his world, not for people like him.
Steve tried to catch his eye. “Do you like her, Buck?”
Bucky bit the inside of his cheek. Of course, his friends would latch on that he was possibly interested in someone. He hadn’t dated anyone since Leah, and his relationship with her hadn’t lasted long. Was the universe giving him a chance by putting you in his path, or was he reading too deeply into it? It had to be the latter.
Sam sighed when Bucky didn’t respond. “Can you message her? Tell her Alpine’s trying to get out to see her?”
Bucky almost laughed because he could see the feline trying to sneak out to find you. “I didn’t get her number.”
“Wait, you didn’t ask for her number or give her yours?” Steve asked.
Bucky finally lifted his head and fought the urge to say that he wasn’t the suave guy he used to be. “She was drunk, Steve. I didn’t ask since there’s a good chance that she might not even remember me,” he answered, which somehow felt worse than the thought of not seeing you again. Call him crazy or selfish, but he wanted you to remember him. It was only fair since you were affecting him so much.
“Well, you know where her apartment building is,” the blonde smiled. “That’s a start.”
“But not her apartment number,” he sighed.
You were alert enough not to give away that piece of information, which he appreciated. Though you joked that it was how “true crimes” began, did you have any idea how many laws he had broken over the years? No, how could you? If you knew, there was a chance you wouldn’t run straight inside.
Regardless of what he had or hadn’t done over the years, it didn’t change that he didn’t get your phone number or your apartment number before you parted ways.
Alpine batted her paw against his chest and meowed, sensing the subtle shift in his mood. “What would you suggest, Al? That I just walk you up and down her sidewalk with you until she comes out?”
Silence filled the living room. Was he really asking his cat for advice on how to see you again? Jesus fucking Christ, he needed help and he was already seeing a therapist.
Steve shrugged after a minute went by. “...It’s not a bad idea.”
Sam snorted. He was enjoying this way too much. “Or you could just start by finding her on social media like a normal person since she at least gave you her name.”
Bucky sat up, his cheek twitching. You had given him your name. “But wouldn’t that be weird to add her as a friend?” he asked.
Because, again, there was a chance you wouldn’t remember who he was. It would give him a chance to see photos of you if you shared them. Maybe get a feel for some of your likes and dislikes. Where you hung out. If your relationship status said “single” like he hoped.
…Was he venturing into creepy territory again?
Sam’s smile fell. “It’s weird to add her on social media, but it’s not weird to walk up and down her sidewalk like a wolf stalking its prey or talk about hacking the cameras of her building?”
“And that’s the end of this conversation,” Bucky said, shooting both of them a glare to drop it.
“You’ll see her again,” Steve smiled, quickly adding, “Now that’s the end of the conversation.”
Bucky wasn’t an idiot. It would not be the end of that conversation, not now that Steve and Sam knew he was interested in someone. He should’ve kept his mouth shut and said that he found Alpine all by her lonesome, but he didn’t want to keep you a secret.
He wondered how you were doing. Did you have your water and aspirin like he suggested? Would you feel okay in the morning? Did you hope to see him again? He just had to find a way to see you, if only so you could see “Queen Alpine” while you were sober.
And if he couldn’t figure out a way himself, he had a feeling Alpine would take matters into her own paws.

I swear, he will see his girl again. Because, yes, you are his girl. Love and thanks for reading! ❤️
