Hey hey!! I was literally thinking about how I really dislike the Mammon raised Satan headcanon last night.

Headcanons treated as canon by a fandom can be really annoying on their own, but this one super irks me because it diminishes Satan's character in favour of Mammon. Mammon who already is a favoured character in the narrative and absolutely does not need it?

And!! Satan would absolutely hate to be reduced to an object to further someone else's character. It's so disrespectful!!!

(also I don't really get the appeal of putting your fave into like a position to be a parent?? It's really weird to me djdjsgjd)

And it doesn't even fulfill the whole Mammon as a dad thing well, because Satan was messed up by his upbringing. There was that dialogue from the most recent event, I think he was saying that he wants to be useful to someone or smth like that? You want your fave to be responsible for that?? A disservice to both their characters if you ask me.

“Mammon is already a favored character in the narrative and absolutely does not need it” EXACTLY!! Honestly I’m convinced that the devs refuse to make anyone nicer to Mammon because they know it gets the Mammon stans talking, but by virtue of them actually stating that he’s one of the team’s faves, and because he’s been pre-emptively chosen as MC’s sidekick, he will always get special treatment even if the writers make everyone treat him like shit. You’re forced to have him as your bestie that you canonically treat extra special (I’m not kidding, @/still-a-morosexual-help has posts on this that I can’t find because Tumblr search sucks) and I hate it honestly

But anyway yeah I don’t understand why anyone would want to have Mammon raise Satan??? Satan is like… Fucking damaged lmao why do people want Mammon to be responsible for that? Mammon might’ve held the family together while Lucifer was still picking himself up but after the pep talk he gave him as shown in The Rulebook you bet your ass Lucifer picked up the slack and went back to being everyone’s strong parental figure, even bolstered by Mammon’s talk to the point that he became the prideful prick we see.

And I’ve already gone on about how that ended up hurting Satan in the long run here so I won’t rehash that again in this post but my god. Lucifer and Satan’s relationship is something representative of all the people out there with parents who meant well but did irreversible emotional damage to their children and removing Lucifer as the main caretaker when he is exactly like the kind of person who’d end up doing that shit to their kid is so asdjkfhskdj to me. Find other ways to further your ‘Mammon is the best brother’ agenda please. Let Lucifer and Satan have this complex relationship with each other that they’re still slowly working through.

**In fact, while I’m on this and fired up, I also wanna rant about people who think Satan should be ‘over’ his hang ups with Lucifer already. It’s not that simple. This is like, partly me projecting, but that’s thousands of years of being treated like shit and having your inferiority complex furthered by the guy causing it. That’s not shit that can be solved in like, however long MC’s been in their lives, and MC’s talk-no-jutsu (if you can even equate it to that) can only do so much.

Think about it. How long does it take a human to forgive their shitty parent for all they did to them? To reconcile their anger at being treated the way they were with the fact that their parent did it because it was what they thought was the best for them? 3 years is a long time for us but it’s a blink of an eye to them demons who talk about centuries as if they were just months.

Satan’s at least willing to spend time with Lucifer for fun now. Let him take his anger out on Lucifer via pranks and curses. Those two still have a lot to deal with regarding each other and this is one of the rare times we’re the devs’ refusal to change the status quo regarding the brothers actually works.
