Adult female T037A in the foreground and an unidentified calf behind her. . This was taken June 30, 2019 just north of Race Rocks, off the coast of Victoria, B.C. We hung out with them for a little while and got two close passes by our boat, but the whales were not particularly active nor were they terribly interested in the boats. Judging by their swimming pattern and their longer dive times, they could have either been hunting, or just spending time together as a family. . The former is very likely, however, as the waters surrounding the San Juan Islands and British Columbia have been full of the preferred prey of Transient Orca lately - Seals, Sea Lions, Harbor Porpoises, Grey Whales, Humpback Whales, etc. Having such a high concentration of prey available also explains why there have been so many successful pregnancies and births within the Transient population within the past few years. . #salishsea #pugetsound #sanjuan #britishcolumbia #pacificnorthwest #pnw #transient #transientorca #killerwhale #orca #orcinusorca #blackfish #mammaleaters #victoria #racerocks #calf #t037a #t37 #whale #wildlife #marinelife #marine https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz2fY9hHlyl/?igshid=g0uykld3vt6j
