hey everyone! back for a little bit before a hellish two weeks so im taking my chances. im here to drop soro lore (subject to tweaking ofc if canon says otherwise)

- as expected, soro was born to parents of nobility and was trained, like everyone else, as a warrior. however, soro’s mother [currently unnamed rn] decided to impart some harsh truths: the truth about the covenant, and how they have been a poison from the very first day. her mother is also the inspiration for why she reads so many scriptures, sangheili literature, what have you. so from the get-go, soro was determined to break many moulds of sangheili society.

- soro was also criticized later in her life for conversing and spending her time helping civilians and those who were not of higher status like her instead of “tending to important matters.” like for example, helping with fishing and farming, raising the children alongside the women of the community, etc.

nazam seaside brainstorming. this is a long one btw

- because they’re one of some keeps on feldokra with beaches and not just cities above water, they have beach house style architectures with hay and wood but those of higher class have manors made of teracotta clay and if they wanted to show off, have painted flowers, greenery, cultural symbols, etc

- diet consists of mainly marine animals, a form of kelp, and vegetables/grains grown on land. berries are a common dessert everyone enjoys but soro’s family has a secret delicacy recipe

- boys and girls are raised communally which ends up in both of them wearing clothes that are not defined by binary. toys of all types are shared and recently are raised to see each other as their equal with no power dynamics, however elder kaidons of smaller keeps or surrounding neighbor keeps, politicians and priests reject this notion in the name of “preserving tradition”

- thanks to soro’s rise in power from an early age, sefa refumee’s resistance to covenant principles and the popularity of the arbiter’s ideas (thanks rtas ur the first feminist here 🙏), women had more control in their households regardless of class. although written on paper than during the time of the convenant women had the say in politics and household, this was not very apparent in practise

- a popular sport in nazam is a sangheili water polo which adults can play, whereas children make up their own games on the shore and have fun safely. elders play games involving cognitive thought and memory building to prevent forgetfulness in old age

- teenagers in nazam have a special code exclusively amongst themselves for indicating romantic statuses. regardless of their identity: an untied sash spanning around their waist indicates seeking a relationship, meanwhile a tied sash means they have a partner.

for adults: a simple rope around their waist and nothing more indicates not seeking marriage. a rope weaved in with coral indicates seeking marriage. finally, a rope with a knot and two hanging ends means they are married. because there are sangheili who like more sexual freedom, they are free to use only one hanging end. (soro has this to indicate that she is not willing to marry but also does not stop her from pursuing who she wants. this is to cover the identity of tasze’s father without anyone prodding into her business) (aru has a simple rope around his waist to show he isn’t willing to marry anyone because his heart secretly belongs to soro but for good reason, cannot express that to anyone. he can’t have a hanging rope on his waist either because it will draw suspicion.)

- colors and texture of clothing also symbolize class. lower class typically wear more earthy tones made of breathable but cheap material. higher class sport mostly white, ivory and creme colored clothes made of silk-like material that is expensive to come by. in recent times, people defied these rules by imitating high class fashion and even soro wore earthy tones her whole life alongside the milk white robes

fyi this is sonia but not in odst form !!! very very old art from well over a year ago before i recycled her for halo (she’s across multiple fav medias of mine wbdjsbdisjdj)
