Kayne speaks slowly, clearly excited to reveal what he’d come up with. “John comes back, owns your eyes, as he always did, and I say it’s only fair he gets to keep that hand and foot… but! You’ll. Remember. Nothing.”
It’s a stomach dropping realization, panic rearing its head fast and familiar as Kayne continues through the ringing in his ears. “Nothing?”
“Nothing. No opening the book back in Arkham, no memories in the Dreamlands, no discovery of each other's true natures - all those squabbles and heartfelt conversations. Nothing.”
---
What if Arthur was the one that lost his memories during Season 3?

Since part 3 of my fic series is going to be finishing up later this month, here's a post about my current ongoing fanfic series, "The Stars Claim Them". If you're following me, you probably already know at least some of this, but I thought it'd be fun to have a quick summary (under the cut):
In part 1, "The Walls Begin To Tear", Lyfrassir Edda leaves Yggdrasil, bumping into Nastya Rasputina along the way, and decides on a new course of action. It's set almost entirely post-Bifrost Incident (aside from a few flashbacks). It's a fun read, and the shortest of all these parts. Start here if you can!
In part 2, "Tearing At The Seams", Lyf and Nastya make their way to Earth, and the Magnus Archives crossover begins. In the TMA timeline, this is set pre-season 1, but there are spoilers through season 3 and possibly 4. Consider yourself warned. But hey, there's a lot of fun stuff in here, too. If you like heists, the name Michael, road trips, shared dreams, or similar nonsense, you might enjoy this one.
In part 3, "Now We Are Derailed", we begin crossing over with Season 1 of TMA proper, including all the chaos Lyf's involvement adds to things. We've also got ongoing plots for some side characters from the last part. This part includes a Peter Pan side plot, an unexpected circus heist, quite a few flashbacks, and more. The last chapter of this part will be posted 7/21/23.
And there will be a part 4, too! Twisting The Track is going to be fun, trust me. Some stuff that's been hinted at so far: a major reunion or three, some memory issues, Camelot-themed nonsense, paranoia, problems in the Archives, and more. It'll be crossing over with season 2 of the Magnus Archives. Look for the first chapter of this up probably on 8/2/23, as I'll be taking a short break after I finish posting NWAD.
If you enjoy this series, stick around for a while! There's plenty more on the way. As well, there are some talented fans who've made art, which I've done my best to reblog under #the stars claim them. If you're a Malevolent fan, too, one person's even done a rewrite of chapter 43 of NWAD that you might enjoy. We also have a Discord going, and there are plenty of shenanigans there. If you're interested in joining the Discord, message me and I'll get you a link.
If you're new to the story, have fun! I hope you like it. If you're a current reader, enjoy yourself! There are fun times ahead, and I can't wait to share them. And hey, thanks for reading. It means a lot.
#the stars claim them#I'm also the one who did the knit dolls so#there are one or two of those specifically themed for this series#fun times :)

SEASON 3 (SEMI-DIVERGENT) THROUGH THE EYES OF FLORIBETH DALISAY
3x01: the next school year begins in we’re not worthy and flori is fighting the urge to fall asleep at the assembly. she perks up at the mention of a field trip, however, and participates in the games.
a green knight shows up, effectively ruining the field trip. several students - including jed - try to attack him and much like josie, flori makes a face when alyssa flirts with jed.
flori connects the dots and figures out that this green knight is gawain, who had a wife named florie. once she says his name, his armor falls away - but according to loren, the enchantment sticks because it’s been building up for ages - and flori sees a handsome boy about her own age. he collapses and she vamp speeds towards him, catching him and holding him close. he dies, thinking he finally made it back to his wife like he promised he would so long ago. flori plays along to give him some comfort in his final moments and sobs as he passes away.
3x02: alaric falls into a coma in goodbyes sure do suck. bonnie takes over as interim headmistress until caroline’s return from europe.
3x03: no one really wants to put on salvatore: the musical, especially when most of the people centered in the aforementioned story are still alive. also, one of their own is essentially on death's door. but it happens anyway. flori gives her heartfelt condolences to the saltzman twins but finds she herself isn't grieving the headmaster as much as she probably ought.
the musical goes through numerous rewrites, though the massacre of the tennesee wolf pack doesn't make it in and neither does derek machado's story. either way, flori is glad that bonnie's role in the musical has been significantly expanded because bonnie is the reason this town is still standing, after all.
she helps kaleb and jed run their lines and helps out behind the scenes with the lighting.
3x04: in hold on tight, flori finally has time for her own projects again: cataloguing the dark dimension, finding out everything she can about the machado family, taking tentative steps to reach out to the remaining harmans, researching eastern vampires and hanging out with her best friends as well as jed.
cecil barnes - one of the humans of mystic falls high - reaches out to her and asks her help: he wants to figure out what happened to his aunt heather and fisherman zachary larson pointed him in the direction of the boarding school again, citing that "once you learn to see what was once hidden, you'll find that everything is real."
it becomes clear, however, that things have taken a turn because there are more witches in the hallways practicing malevolent magic than before; there are more and more vampires who bite their fellow students - not just behind closed doors but out in the open.
(this continues throughout the rest of the show.)
3x05: the therapy box returns in this is what it takes and this time, it’s a slasher movie. fortunately, flori has seen every scream movie and three seasons of the tv show, as well as other horror properties. so this time around, she makes it to the end despite the fact that making out (and/or going further) is a clear horror movie rule violation. she finds her safe word, becomes self aware, and leaves the simulation.
3x06: the next day, flori hears that a lot of families are pulling their children out of school in to whom it may concern which, yeah, fair. she helps out with trying to recruit new students. one of wade’s friends, gaby rodriguez, is also one of flori’s penpal friends (and is someone flori knows from her human life). she finds gaby's arrival very exciting. the real excitement only begins, however, when penelope returns from belgium.
3x07: in yup, it’s a leprechaun all right, flori helps out with the first ever salvatore fundraiser but ends up leaving early because cecil needs her help.
3x08: long time, no see is all about blind spots; flori’s blind spots are her best friend, the man she loves, her other friends and classmates and the family members on her mom's side. tensions rise between hope and lizzie.
3x09: do all malivore monsters provide this level of emotional insight? the answer might be surprising. tensions between hope and lizzie keep rising. higher and higher. landon returns, cleo gets voted into the super squad.
the monster they're up against is not a gremlin but a crocotta - a being that can mimic the voices of others. and when flori overhears what seems to be a conversation between the staff members about sending her back to the triad industries detention facility, she decides to visit mg at mystic falls high.
once there, beula hammond makes it clear that she's not a fan of any salvatore student. she was only okay with hope in 1x04 because cheryl and dana were.
3x10: during all’s well that ends well, mg tells ethan that he’s a vampire. flori tells ethan that he’s related to her sire as well, finally coming clean about the connection between the machado's and herself.
meanwhile, it's revealed that flori was deliberately kept in the dark about the banshee because she would've worried for jed and that would have impeded the investigation as a whole.
3x11: you can’t run from who you are, right? finch is revealed to be a werewolf. lizzie comes to flori for help first but she refuses to do a headdive, causing her to go to mg, who does it instead.
flori joins up with kaleb and cleo to go back to triad industries. flori smiles to herself when kaleb flirts with cleo while they all look through the files. kaleb catches her smile and calls her out for her crush turned love for jed, which causes flori to blush something fierce.
it is only when they get back that flori gets told all about how hope turned into a berbalang before wade, armed with flori's research, landon and josie helped her.
3x12: jed and landon apparently hang out now. who knew? in i was made to love you, flori teams up with mg who tries to keep ethan from turning into a vampire. flori tries to impress upon him that it’s not all fun and games and superheroics. she even goes as far as detailing her own harrowing transformation into a vampire. mg ends up erasing ethan's memories.
3x13: flori is glad that finch has transferred to the salvatore school in one day you will understand because it feels good to have someone to share her culture with. to share food and idioms and proverbs and just know.
despite the fact that finch and josie are together, flori does clock the fact that josie is still drawn to hope. flori is surprised to hear that cleo left again but not as surprised to find out landon’s left as well.
3x14: in this feels a little cult-y, flori returns to grove hill where andi holds her witchy wellness retreat but is denied access because she's not a witch. flori calls andi from inside the grove hill trauma center. andi tells flori to be on the look out for the old powers. flori also talks to her about the triad industries detention center and the ties it has to the zetes institute. flori goes home with new information and new questions.
3x15: during a new hope, flori joins kaleb, mg and jed during the team building exercise, during which she keeps to herself but does ask some burning questions: "who are you beneath the mask you present to the world?" and "who are you when no one's looking?" and "the seats are empty, the theatre is dark; why do you keep acting?"
3x16: flori appears in fate’s a bitch, isn’t it? together with other members of the super squad and the anti squad to confront malivore for once and for all.

So, recently I found myself thinking about Teen Wolf, specifically the MTV show from the early 2010s. And I’m reminded about how fascinated I was by the Argent family in the first three seasons of the show.
I loved the Argent family for the same reason I loved the Lightwood family in Shadowhunters. In a lot of ways, I think they’re very similar. Both families represent people who are raised from birth in a system in which they believe they are righteous warriors, protecting innocent people from horrible monsters, while being blind to their own prejudices and committing some truly heinous acts in the service of their “cause”.
There are differences of course. The Argents are not part of a greater society, and do not have institutionalized power over the Hales or presumably other werewolf families (though they’re certainly good at exploiting human organizations and legal systems). The Argents are also very clearly villains, while the Lightwoods are sometimes adversarial but contrasted with more extremist villains like Valentine.
But both families represent a theme that I find fascinating: the way that growing up in an isolated culture of violence, hate and extremism can warp an individual and the ways that they might overcome it or not.
Honestly, Teen Wolf as a show was always more complex and layered than I think it’s given credit for. It didn’t always deliver on what it was trying to say, but there were a lot of interesting ideas.
So anyway, the Argents fascinated me from day one, because there were some very interesting layers. We had Kate, and later Gerard, who were the complete monsters. We had Chris and Victoria as more noble demons. And then we had Allison, who was the complete innocent in all of this.
And actually, it’s the fact that Allison WAS innocent that got my attention. Because that says something really interesting about Chris and Victoria. We know, at least in retrospect, that the Argent family are fanatics who raise their hunters very young. The little that the show told us about Chris and Kate’s upbringing is pretty horrifying. Gerard was raising weapons, not children. We can probably assume Victoria’s upbringing was similar.
(At least going by her death: she’d clearly bought into the Argent mindset by that point, even though she’d met at least one non-malevolent werewolf at that point.)
Allison was clearly taught skills useful for the hunt: marksmanship, gymnastics, et cetera. But they never told her about werewolves. They never told her about what they did. And until Kate’s death, they’d had no contact with Gerard. In their very flawed way, I think they were genuinely trying to protect their daughter and give her something better than they knew.
A lot of this didn’t become clear until Gerard’s arrival. Before Gerard’s arrival, it was easy to see the Argent family as a group of fallen Knight Templars. They’re extremists, but ones with a cause that might, once upon a time, been worthwhile (at least when we look at monsters like Peter Hale) and still possessing a remnant of a code of honor. Kate was portrayed as the outlier, based on Chris’s disgust at her deeds, and the willingness of Victoria and Chris to leave Scott alone at the end of the first season.
But then, in season 2, we meet Gerard. And it becomes clear that Chris and Victoria, with their antiquated code of honor, are the actual outliers, at least in the modern Argent family.
This doesn’t mean that Chris and Victoria are good people at this point. They’re not. They still hunt. They were still complicit in Gerard’s actions. But there are clear lines drawn here.
I remember being really surprised when Chris pulled the gun on Scott at the beginning of season 2. It seemed like a direct contradiction to his and Victoria’s resigned acceptance at the end of season 1. But then it makes more sense when we see Gerard’s arrival at Kate’s funeral. Chris and Victoria were probably never going to be happy with their daughter dating a werewolf, but if they truly hated the boy, they’d have just told Gerard what he was. Instead, they spend most of that hilariously awkward family dinner lying through their teeth.
I think Victoria often gets the shaft when folks discuss the Argent family. She seems to get labeled as the same kind of monster as Kate and Gerard, while Chris is recognized as a more complex character. I don’t think that’s fair. For the most part, Chris and Victoria are a united team, working on the same page. They both had the same potential to turn on Gerard and become a reluctant ally to Scott and the team. It’s just that Victoria went one way, succumbing to fear and desperation, choosing to sacrifice Scott to save Allison, and it doomed her.
Chris went the other, and he became an ally. I hesitate to call his arc a redemption arc, at least at this point, because I'm not sure I think Chris is capable of true remorse for his past decisions. He’s not really wired like that. He can recognize that the Argent code was flawed, and certainly that Gerard and Kate crossed the line, but I’m not sure he could ever really acknowledge how cruelly he treated Scott or the other victims of the hunt.
To be fair, I’ve only seen bits and pieces of the series after season 3, so it’s possible that I’m wrong about that.
So I don’t think Chris has a redemption arc, per se. But he does actively choose to become better. Mostly because of Allison. Because as terrible a father as he can be sometimes (and the Argents were TERRIBLE parents), he does love her and he wants to become the person his daughter wants him to be. And we see that best of all in that moment when Allison rewrites the code. CHRIS may not be truly redeemable, per se, but the family can.
At least until Allison’s death.
I stopped watching the show regularly after they killed Allison. It’s not that I disliked the other characters. They were great. Kira and Scott are adorable. Derek was slowly starting to turn into a character that didn’t annoy the shit out of me. I love what I’ve seen of Malia and Lydia’s development.
But my investment was in the Argent storyline, and that really died with Allison. Chris was still around, and I was glad to see that because he’s still my favorite, and he continued to be a willing and ready ally to Scott, which makes me happy. But he’s basically lost his narrative significance. There’s no Argent clan to be redeemed anymore, just one broken soldier with a tangential involvement in Scott’s adventures, who gets an unexpected happy ending with Scott’s mother. (which is an amazing IDEA, but as others have mentioned, there're a lot of missed opportunities with that set up.)
It’s a good, fun show, that I will sit down and finish in full one day. But I’ll always regret the loss of my favorite element. Oh well. There’s always fanfic. Assuming I can wade through the 16 billion Stiles and Sterek fics to find it. :-D
#teen wolf#chris argent#allison argent#gerard argent#i would kill for some good argent fic recs#that aren't 'petopher'#no offense to the fans but that one does not work for me

Dani’s Fic List
As promised for my 300 followers celebration, a list of all my active fics on Quotev! I think this is comprehensive. If there’s a fic that’s left off, that’s by accident. All of these are on my “published” list on Quotev.
For this story list, I’ll start with ones that already have links posted on here, then move to other lesser-known ones (below the cut). These are listed in no particular order at all.
@auradon-bore-a-don Since you asked to be tagged, here it is! Like 95% of this is all Descendants-related. It’s been my hyperfixation since the first book came out back in early summer 2015 and it’s stuck...

Notes From the 2020 Myanimelist.net Challenges - Part 1: Anime
You don’t need me to remind you how much 2020 sucked. It was definitely a hard year for me as well, especially since health problems (fuck cancer) pretty much kept me on the couch, in the hospital, and out of work for 6.5 months out of the year. Add to that the current events, almost daily anxiety attacks regarding the current events, and my main escapes being cancelled, 2020 was definitely a rough one.
That being said, when I was more cognizant and not suffering from executive dysfunction, I did watch some pretty good anime this year.
I will now continue with my yearly post about some of the anime I watched and manga I read for this challenge, starting with the anime side. While I didn’t finish the challenge by the site’s deadline, I finished before the end of the year, which was better than last year’s attempt!!!
Like the previous 2 years, I will talk about some honorable mentions/anime I had thoughts on, followed by my favorites from the challenge.
Let’s do this.
Honorable Mentions/Other Notables:
Inferno Cop - completed for the task “Watch an ONA”
Inferno Cop is, well, a cop, whose family was murdered by the organization Southern Cross. Now, he is tasked with fighting that organization and keeping the peace in the city of Jack Knife Edge Town.
My reaction to watching this anime was pretty much this:
youtube
This anime was honestly kinda funny. I’m usually not into the stuff that’s bad/over the top on purpose (I guess they would call it Stylistic Suck), but this anime made me laugh really hard at points. I feel like it also helped that each episode was about 4 minutes each.
My favorite part was honestly this:
youtube
Believe it or not, it makes just as much sense in context.
There are definitely worse ways to kill an hour.
Strawberry Marshmallow (aka Ichigo Mashimaro) - completed for the task “Watch any anime recommended to your Favorite Anime”
The slice-of-life adventures of 6th-grader Chika, her friend and classmate Miu, 5th grader Matsuri, British transfer student Anna (who transfers to Matsuri’s class), and Chika’s college-age sister Nobue. Hijinks ensue, usually initiated by Miu.
This was recommended to me because one of my favorite anime listed on my Myanimelist profile is Azumanga Daioh. I feel like this one is a little more hyper (if that makes any sense, it’s honestly the only word I can think of for this), but still fun and not a far-off comparison.
Pretty much your basic Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime with some zany hijinks thrown in. It was cute and funny, though I feel like this is one you have to be in the mood for, similar to when I watched The Irresponsible Captain Tylor for last year’s challenge. I still had fun with it and it made me smile. The last episode was actually pretty heartwarming, and the fact that I watched it on Christmas Day was a cool coincidence.
Canaan - completed for the task “ Watch an anime that began airing the same year you joined MAL” (2009, in this case)
Maria Osawa, a photographer, is on an assignment in Shanghai with her colleague, Mino. They end up in the middle of a conspiracy involving a mysterious virus, a deadly terrorist attack, rival assassins, and a white-haired lady named Canaan, who Maria apparently knows.
This anime actually came up for multiple tasks in the challenge, so I pretty much had to watch this one, lol.
This anime was a bit dark at certain points. There was a bit of an interesting mystery, as well as pretty good action scenes, especially the fights between Caanan and Alphard, the main rival assassin. I honestly ship Maria and Canaan; I wish the anime just came out and had them get together, because some of their dialogue can get a little gay-baity at times, but it was still precious. Some lapses in logic and artistic liberties, but still pretty good.
Ginban Kaleidoscope (aka Skating Rink Kaleidoscope) - completed for the task “Watch an anime generated randomly using spin.moe”
Tazusa Sakurano is a figure skater who dreams of going to the Olympics. After a fall on the ice where she hits her head, she wakes up to find herself sharing her body with the ghost of Pete Pumps (yes, really), a Canadian stunt pilot who died during an air show. Tazusa has to get used to sharing her body with a ghost while trying to realize her dreams, and Pete helps her out, too.
I honestly thought this anime was kinda cute and heartwarming. Funny at times, too, especially when Tazusa is first getting used to sharing her body with Pete. I thought it was nice that Pete helps Tazusa with her skating later in the anime
Your Name (aka Kimi no na Wa) - completed for the task “Watch an award-winning anime”
Mitsuha is a high school girl who lives out in the countryside and dreams of moving to the big city. Taki is a high school boy who lives in the city and has a part-time job, living a pretty busy life. One day, they find that they’ve switched bodies! They then try to find out about each other and find an answer to why they temporarily switch bodies every now and then.
Yes, I gave in to the hype, and yes, I loved this movie. And yes, I cried.
This movie was honestly beautiful. The art looked great, the story was interesting, the plot twist was unexpected, etc. Not the best anime movie ever like everyone says, but I still loved this one.
Favorites From the Challenge:
Ping Pong the Animation - completed for the task “Watch an anime with a score of 8.00 or above and an episode duration of 16 minutes or more”
Makoto Tsukimoto, aka Smile, and Yutaka Hoshino, aka Peco, are childhood friends who are part of the ping pong club at their high school. Peco wants to be the best in the world, while Smile mostly finds ping pong as a way to pass the time. The anime shows them playing in and trying to win the championship, as well as them getting better and their various feelings throughout.
Might as well continue the tradition of watching a Masaki Yuasa work for the challenge. He most certainly did not disappoint here.
This made me think of how I felt when I watched One Outs for last year’s challenge. A different take on sports anime than usual, focusing on more of the psychology of the players and their histories. The two friends weren’t together all the time, though their bond was still there. I honestly binged this one in a couple days, that’s how much I was invested.
The art style is very interesting and unique, which was a major positive. I found this anime to be great overall.
Mononoke - completed for the task “Watch an anime that finished airing with 11 or more episodes and has a synopsis by MAL Rewrite”
A mysterious Medicine Seller wanders Japan to slay malevolent spirits called Mononoke. In order to do so, he has to figure out their Form, Truth, and Reason, along with psychological analysis and talking to the people caught up in the Mononokes’ schemes. Only then can he use his special sword to exorcise the spirits.
Unique art styles definitely seem to be a trend here, a complete coincidence on my part.
This reminded me a lot of the anime Mushishi, except on acid or some other drug like that. I like that this is an anthology of sorts, with the 11 episodes divided up into groups of 2 or 3 episodes per plot arc. The art style was unique and very pretty at times, and I found the psychological aspect very interesting too.
This anime isn’t for everyone, and it can get a little confusing at times, but I liked it a lot.
Silver Spoon (aka Gin no Saji) - completed for the task “Watch a listed Gourmet or Isekai themed anime” (Gourmet, in this case)
To get away from the pressures of home life and high expectations, Hachiken, on the advice of one of his teachers, decides to go to an agricultural high school, thinking it would be laid back. When he gets there, he has a bit of a culture shock and learns about farm and country life, including taking care of livestock and making fresh food.
I liked a lot of the characters in this one. I like the friendships Hachiken gets into with his classmates, especially a girl he meets on the first day and his assigned partners in rotations on the farm. This anime was also kinda relaxing too, and another one I was able to watch several episodes of without realizing.
Aggressive Retsuko (aka Aggretsuko) Season 3 - completed for the task “Watch an anime with a main character that is a professional in their field”
To pay off some debt that Retsuko incurs, she gets roped into helping out an underground idol group who is trying to make it big.
Honestly, this season hit me with all the feels multiple times. I loved seeing Retsuko take charge in several of the episodes. A lot of what I loved about the previous 2 seasons of Aggretsuko were here. Definitely made me laugh several times.
Princess Jellyfish (aka Kuragehime) - completed for the task “Watch a Noitamina anime”
Tsukimi is a shy, awkward outcast who loves jellyfish and lives in an apartment building, Amamizukan, with a few other awkward outcasts. One day, while out at a pet store, she meets a confident woman while trying to save a jellyfish from improper care. This confident woman, who is revealed to be a guy, Kuranosuke, who likes dressing like a woman, plants themselves in Tsukimi’s life and helps her break out of her shell.
This wins Best Anime for this year’s challenge. I found myself relating to Tsukimi a lot, being a socially awkward nerdy outcast. To be honest, I found myself headcanoning most of the characters (especially Tsukimi) as being autistic. I loved the relationships between the characters and I found a lot of this anime really relatable. The two main ladies (I say that loosely because Kuranosuke isn’t technically a lady) were my favorite characters.
This anime was so cute and so heartwarming. I’m planning on reading the manga now to see where the story goes. I’m glad I finally got around to watching this one.
