SLAM+ The Tour
I have been a huge fan of Shahrukh Khan for more than 24 years and in my opinion he is a Bollywood superstar. when I read an article online which stated that he was coming to the United Kingdom after a decade for a one-off concert to coincide with the release of his film ‘Happy New Year’ with co-stars including Actress, Deepika Padukone, Actor, Abhishek Bachchan, Actor, Sonu Sood, Actor, Boman Irani, Actor, Vivaan Shah, Actress, Malaika Arora Khan including singer, Kanika Kapoor and the director of the movie, Farah Khan. Also, actress Maudari Dixit was coming but she did not star in the movie.
Therefore, I could not miss this event and I just had to go so I persuaded my dad to let me go, once he approved I booked the tickets one month in advance prior to the concert titled ‘SLAM+ The Tour’ held at the O2 Arena, London.
My Dad and I left the house at 12 noon and he first drove to the ‘London Enfield Premier Inn’ in Enfield as we had booked a room for a night stay and needed to check-in before heading to the O2 Arena. We arrived at the Premier Inn, at 4pm and checked-in to our room and the accommodation was to a good standard with comfortable beds and the staff were friendly and welcoming. However the room was not wheelchair friendly as there were no accessible rooms available on our preferred date but I was still able to manage. After having a well-earned rest we left 20 minutes later and headed to the O2 Arena.
After experiencing the hustle and bustle of the Central London traffic and on occasion getting lost as the sat-nav was giving us too much information at a time, we made it an hour before the show was due to start.

The O2 Arena looked amazing from outside, the same has to be said from inside as well. We entered inside the venue and showed our tickets then we were escorted by a stewed to the disabled seating area, our seats were much closer to stage than any other venues I have visited before. The concert started at 7:30pm and the opening act of the show was from newcomer actor, Vivaan Shah and he performed to theme track of the show titled “Everybody Go Slam”, his performance was great and he certainly got me and the crowd into the spirit and very excited to what was about to come next.
The next star to grace the stage was Deepika Padukone, her entrance was spectacular and she was gradually lowered down to the stage like an angel and she looked stunning! She performed to some of her greatest hits of 2013 from her movies including ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’ (‘A Play of Bullets Rasleela Ram-Leela’) to the song “Nagada Sang Dol” (“Along With The Kettle-Drums”) and from the movie ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (‘This Youth is Crazy’) to the song “Balam Pichkari” (“O Beloved”) this was my favourite song and the atmosphere was amazing while she was performing to the track.
Abhishek Bachchan was next on stage and he entered walking through the crowd. I enjoyed performances from his films including ‘Dus’ (‘Ten’) (2005), to the track “Dus Bahane” (“Ten Excuses”) and “Maa Da Laadla” (“Mama”s Boy”) from ‘Dostana’ (‘Friendship’) (2008). There was also a small segment in the show where he engaged with the audience and everyone took a selfie simultaneously and it was amazing because it was dark and then the arena lit up as the crowd and I took the selfie.
The big moment had arrived and the wait was finally over. Shahrukh Khan entered on a platform with the soundtrack “Main Hoon Don” (“I Am Don”) playing from his film ‘Don’ (2006) and green laser beams shining all around the arena while he was flying over the audience and performing his signature armography where he spreads out his arms, signifying the love for his fans before landing on stage. The atmosphere was electric and the raw of the crowd was so loud, you could not hear yourself speak. I could not believe what I had witnessed and he could not have asked for a better reception from the audience and his fans. Absolutely out of the world, the grandest entry by a Bollywood superstar I had ever seen!
Shahrukh Khan first performed to “Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen” (“These Black, Black Eyes”) from his 1993 hit movie ‘Baazigar’ ‘(‘Trickster’) and then after to “Chammak Challo” (“Stylish Girl”) from the movie ‘Ra One’ (2011). I really enjoyed all his performances, they were fantastic and the songs sounded even better live, some were remixed tracks. I could not also believe I was watching my favourite star performing live at O2 Arena after 14 years as I previously went to a concert of his in Birmingham, United Kingdom at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC).
Madhuri Dixit danced to a medley of her hit songs including “O Re Piya” (“O Bloved”) from the film ‘Aaja Nachle’ (‘Let’s Dance’) (2007) and “Aatra Baras Ki” (“Eighteen Years Old”) from the move ‘Anjaam’ (‘Consequence’) (1994). Madhuri’s performances were fabulous and she set the stage on fire with her moves and she is one of the best actresses we have in the industry today and not forgetting a fantastic dancer as she can grasp the steps and dance moves quickly, even down to the finest detail.
Malaika Arora Khan was next to dazzle the O2 Arena with her great dance moves, her performances included the track “Yaar Naa Miley” (“If I Don”t Find My Beloved”) from the film ‘Kick’ (2014, this was one of my favourite songs of 2014 as it has great music and melody. Malaika also performed with actor Sonu Sood to “Munni Badnaam” (“Munni Was Mortified”) from the 2010 movie ‘Dabangg’ (‘Fearless’). Sonu removed his shirt during his performance and his female fans went crazy!
Farah Khan and actor Boman Irani were next on stage and they performed a comedy sketch and it was hilarious and their comic timings and punches were brilliant, they also performed to the songs “Main Agar Kahoon” (“If I were to say”) from the movie ‘Om Shanti Om’ ‘(It means a religious chant’) (2007) and “Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha” (“When I first saw you”) from the movie ‘Main Hoon Na’ (‘Trust Me, I Am Here’) (2004).
Kanika Kapoor was the next the next artist to entertain the O2 audience with her sensational voice. She performed and sang her own tracks including “Lovely” from the movie ‘Happy New Year’ (2014), “Baby Doll” from the movie ‘Ragini MMS 2’(‘Ragini is the name of the female character in the movie’) (2014) and a Punjabi song “Jugni Ji” (“Female”) by Kanika kapoor and Dr. Zeus. Kanika was brilliant as she got audience up on their feet and singing along.
The stars of the show took a short break and the dancing duo ‘Signature’ entertained the O2 Arena audience with their Michael Jackson and Bhangra performance. They appeared on the hit reality show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and this was a great addition to the concert and it was amazing to see them live on stage and they set the stage on fire with their performance.
Shahrukh Khan and Deepika padukone came back to the stage with a fabulous performance to the song “Satrangi Re” (“Of the Many Colours”) from the move ‘Dil Se’ (‘From the Heart’) (1998). The act was also intimate and passionate and the chemistry between them was amazing! Shahrukh also performed with Malaika Arora Khan to my all-time favourite song “Chaiyya Chaiyya” (“Walk in the Shadow”) from the movie ‘Dil Se’ (‘From The Heart’) (1998). This song was choreographed on moving train and was Malaika”s first song in which she shot to fame.
Shahrukh Khan always includes a part in his shows were he interacts with the audience and his fans by inviting them on stage to participate and perform a track or recite a dialogue from his films. Unfortunately, I was not selected but you never know, I could one day be with the man himself live on stage or even better in a movie. Fingers crossed.
The stars of the show came back on to the stage for an audition process for a new movie, just for fun. Shahrukh and Abhishek came on a motorbike to the song “Dhoom Machale” (“Make A Blast”) from the movie ‘Dhoom’ (‘Blast’) (2004). I thoroughly enjoyed their entry, it was fantastic! Farah Khan along with Vivaan Shah and Boman Irani performed to the track “Gori Gori” (“English, English”) from the movie ‘Main Hoon Na’ (‘Trust Me, I Am Here’) (2004), each of them added a unique twist to the soundtrack which was very funny and a joy to watch.
The finale performance consisted of all the stars coming back on to the stage and performing to the soundtrack “India Waale” (“We Are Indian’s”) from the movie ‘Happy New Year’ (2014)”, as the show was in London they changed the lyrics from “India Waale” (“We Are Indian’s”) to “London Waale” (“We Are Londoners”). I personally preferred this version to the original as it sounded amazing!
The show finished at 10:30pm and it was truly an unforgettable evening, packed with drama, action, romance and great music. The true essence of Bollywood movie rolled into one. It was quoted that this show was going to be the greatest show on earth, it certainly lived up to my expectations by a mile.
We left the O2 Arena at 11pm and travelled back to hotel. The next morning we had breakfast and headed back to Wolverhampton, arriving home at 4pm.
