The way those piercing blue eyes brightened with his laughter made it next to impossible for Kai to think straight. "No, you definitely do not look like a pirate. Not even close." He answered, a little more on the quick side than he intended as his gaze dropped away from Poseidon's just long enough to sweep down and back up his frame. "But, y'know. The ship and the fondness for the ocean. Letting the current take you where it may.." The dark haired male trailed off from his ramble with a softer chuckle. He could see the confusion that painted across the other man's expression and it had him shaking his head pretty quickly, a small grin stretching across his face. "It's also just.. really big and really powerful." He stated rather simply and though he was completely aware of how stupid it sounded out loud, his smile didn't falter any. "Wait. Show me? Like, go out right now?" Kai repeated the question, his own eyebrows raising slowly. Almost more surprised by how intrigued he was at the thought than the offer itself. "Why not? Would be cool to see a real pirate ship." Even his nonchalant tone couldn't hide the subtle growth of his smile that came along with his taunting.

“That’s why you go with an experienced sailor.” Poseidon flirted through his laughter along with the other male and couldn’t help but find that sound just as hypnotizing as his singing voice had been. “A pirate? I guess as long as I don’t look like a pirate.. I didn’t think my beard was that out of sorts..” The sailor raised a hand and smoothed over his beard and found that it was in fact rather tame. Though it couldn’t be the beard he was referring to. It had to be the sailing. That response though furrowed his brows for a moment. “The ocean isn’t scary. The ocean is.. It’s freedom, it’s beautiful.. Why don’t you let me show you?” Maybe he wanted to get a little more quality time with this man, maybe he wanted to prove him wrong. A date of sorts. “I promise you’re in good hands.”

What were the odds that the first person to ever approach him on this secluded strip of beach would be just as gawky in his own way as Kai was? The way the man stumbled to find his footing in the sand had him chuckling under his breath, relieved he didn't fall flat on his face. He also wasn't expecting a legitimate answer to his question by any means, he was sure the slight surprise of the explanation was clear as day on his face. "Huh. You really do learn something new every day.. I'd like to hope my music wouldn't kill anyone." If anything was dangerous it was the smile flashed in his direction, though he couldn't dwell on the inexplicable way it made him feel. "Malachai.." He started before he shifted to stand up and shake the offered hand. "Kai." He corrected himself before he realized he hadn't let the man's hand go and moved his own to rub the back of his neck, nervously?

The way the man’s hands lifted from his guitar was like stopping his heard in his chest. That voice, that song, that tune.. It was new, but somehow so familiar. Like he’d been hearing this song in his dreams for a lifetime or longer. “Well not exa-” Poseidon started but as he took one more step, his foot sank farther down into the sand than anticipated. He would have face planted had he not been fast enough to just lean into his next step and stood upright once again and hopefully a little more stationary of a place to stand. “Not exactly,” he finished through a chuckle full of embarrassment. “Sirens live seaside and sing songs so enchanting that they lure sailors to their deaths. They’re beautiful, but dangerous.” Poseidon replied and offered a smile that showed his pearly whites. Offering a hand to the stranger, the God let his eyes linger on those dark hues. “Poseidon.”

It wasn't often that Kai made his way back home but one of the first places he always found himself was tucked away from the bustle of Portland along the beach. Nothing centered him more than tuning into the sound of the ocean when he played, it made him finally feel at home. The seclusion was why he fell in love with this beach in the first place so when he heard a voice over the acoustic melody, he nearly gave himself whiplash turning to find the source. His fingers stopped moving over the strings as soon as he laid eyes on the man walking toward him. He couldn't remember the last time he was stopped dead in his tracks. "I uh.. didn't know I wasn't alone." Kai chuckled, finding himself unable to tear his gaze away from the older male. "Isn't a siren a mermaid?"

Docking his boat was muscle memory. He could have manipulated the water to help him do so but he didn’t need to. In moments the sea captain stepped out smoothly on the dock though he was less smooth on solid ground than he was on his ship. Unlike most mortals, he never got his land legs back under him properly. Not too far from that very dock sat a man, a handsome man, a man with a guitar. And that tune he heard over the sound of the ocean crashing against the rocks.. was actually memorizing. Before he could stop himself, he stumbled along that dock toward the sound and up the sand. “Hey- hey what is that? Are you a siren or something? ”
