I guess the biggest issue I personally have with A/B/O fics is that instead of just owning that they’re essentially glorified primal kink/werewolf fusion AU (which is like, fine.) they often try to incorporate “meaningful” systems of oppression or draw analogies to real-life issues faced by, say, women. In a way that’s badly thought out, gender essentialist, and ends up being far more misogynist than if they had never attempted to write it that way at all.

Yes, every event for this blog is fanfic friendly :D

Though as I mentioned on my Ominous October post, for events that include multiple short stories, I encourage everyone to flex their creativity and take one of their planned short story fanfics, and at least *attempt* to turn one of them into something entirely original; rebuilding a character and story from the ground up to stand on its own two legs is no easy feat, and that is what makes it so fun!

It really gets your creative gears turning, to make an "au of an existing material" to be something entirely original, and you can be pleasantly surprised about the things you come up with!

As a few people say, its not just a matter of "filing the serial numbers off" -- you have to add in just as much *or more* as what you take out when you are turning a fanfiction into something that is original and completely divorced from its original source material / inspiration, and that is a hard, but very rewarding challenge!

Obviously, this is not a requirement (there's no hard requirements for any of the challenges, other than no cheating, including no using AI),

but if you would like an extra challenge for the short story events and you're planning on doing entirely fan-fiction, I highly recommend trying it out at least once, and seeing where it leads you--

you may find yourself pleasantly surprised by what you find down that rabbit hole!

"A trip down memory lane" or something

For me, there are some songs that I listen to that remind me of whatever part of my life I would often listen to that song during. This is the power of music; the same song brings different emotions and different memories to each person, and can give you the feeling of being brought back in time.

Video games can be described as an escape from reality for many. This makes the unique combination of being brought to a time where you are experiencing another world. It feels childish, but despite that, this is a big part of some people's childhood and lives. So let's go back in time real quick.

Disclaimer, I'm going to use some remixes/remasters for these songs that I think fit the song better. Also, they're almost all Pokémon ;)

Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver ~ New Bark Town

The peaceful, first town music of each Pokémon game is always a nostalgic one, as it is the sound of a new adventure. Still being a huge Pokémon fan at the age of 20, hearing the starting town music from a game I played when I was 7 years old is a feeling like no other. It makes me remember the days where I had fun even without having to try understanding everything. This is a great studying or waiting song for me.

Minecraft ~ Volume Alpha

Nowadays, it is pretty widely accepted that video games can get very addicting and consuming. My first time experiencing this was with Minecraft. A simple game with endless possibilities, where you build up your own world, at your own pace, however you want. The song might be even more nostalgic than New Bark Town's theme for me. Being one of the most popular games in the world to this day, this song probably brings nostalgic feelings for many. As it is a slow paced song like New Bark Town's theme, this could be good study music. However, I don't personally listen to this.

Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire ~ vs. Wally

Perhaps one of the most interesting things in video games is the concept of characters. While they bring lots to the table, there is one thing that isn't expressed much: the fact that you are always the main character. In Pokémon, this means all of those around you will be weaker than you in the end, because canonically, you win every battle.

In the original Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald games, Wally was a character with little impact or meaning to the games. He was just a boy who was overprotected by his uncle, and who you would help start up his adventure. In the remakes (Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire), he starts off similar, but grows into a different character in the end. He is no longer another random kid for the player to crush on their path to become champion. Now he has the resolve to win, and doesn't care for being protected by his uncle. He gives one of the best speeches in the series, then goes straight into the hardest guitar theme in the series to kick off the player's battle with him.

A discussion on GameFAQS goes over how he feels like a different character altogether. In the end he still loses of course, but his battle theme is honestly one of my favorite songs in general, and I would listen to it at any time. It would be a crime to describe it with any word other than awesome.

Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum ~ The piano before Cynthia

The piano that every Pokémon player fears. It would have been criminal of me to not include this song, so here it is.

For context, this is the song that plays right before the player's battle against the champion of Sinnoh (a region), Cynthia. The battle against the champion is (usually) the climax of a Pokémon game. Whoever defeats the reigning champion is granted the title of champion for themselves, and is the end goal for the protagonist.

As you make it to the final battle, the intense piano begins to play. And before you is Cynthia, the girl who goes around studying the history of Sinnoh; little did you know that the whole time, she was destined to be your final opponent.

Looking and acting badass isn't all there is to Cynthia, though. Remember when I said every Pokémon player fears this song? She is notorious for being the most difficult "boss" in the entire series.

Overall, an epic moment to be remembered. Just chills every listen.

Kirby's Dream Land ~ Green Greens

Ah yes, Kirby. The adorable little circle that goes around eating things. Green Greens truly captures the fun of these games and the world of Kirby. That is all this song means to me, but that is okay. It's still a banger and the energy it gives is refreshing.

These songs and many others from games give a kind of feeling that I can't find in any other kind of music. I could listen to most of them in any way, but studying, walking around, and driving would be the best 3 things overall.

Below are some other songs I really like and will include in this playlist, but won't go into depth about (If you're into this kind of music, I highly recommend giving "vs. Trainer Red" and "vs. Zinnia" a try):

5. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

One of my two biggest childhood influences. Ps1/PC puzzle/platformer/adventure game about a funny blue guy escaping from slavery when he discovers his whole race is about to get butchered and sold as food products. Gets back in touch with his native roots and gets granted spiritual powers to help him free his fellow captives and topple capitalism while killing hundreds of cops along the way. There's no guns but there are grenades occasionally. Or you can possess the cops and make them use their guns to kill other cops. And then blow themselves up. Has a ton of sequels and a couple remakes, ports and remasters on PC and just about every other console. Cannot recommend enough. Also you can fart on command this game has a dedicated Fart button you use it for communicating (and then in the sequel you can possess farts too)

4. Myst

The other childhood influence. This game and whole series made me a huge wanderlust slut. Point and click adventure, puzzle solving, world exploring, journal reading. Some puzzles will definitely have you Stumped (but feel free to hmu bc I still have the first game memorised like the back of my hand and am happy to offer guidance ^^) my fave is actually the third game Exile, but I gotta pay respect to the OG. It's full of images and sound effects that remain engraved in my brain in vivid detail 20+ years later

3. Bloodborne

I'm actually not talking abt the whole "series" here I dont rly care much for dark souls etc. It's just this one lmao. Love the tone, love the gameplay, love the level design, love all the horrid monster designs. Love the Rally mechanic discouraging you from hiding and playing safe when you should be going full throttle wailing on everything as fast as possible. I love learning to party attacks with a firearm instead of a shield. I love the blood vials system. I love the doll I love Eileen the crow I love lady Maria I love all the funny little creachurs and most of all I love dying and being dead

2. Final Fantasy V

This ones kinda personal and maybe a bias I guess but idk this was my first FF and even now when I go back to it it just Hits Different somehow. Maybe it's nostalgia/bias but even comparing it to the other pre-ps1 FFs it's just got this vibe of its own. The music helps ofc the music is so fuckin good esp the new pixel remaster arramgements. Anyway it's a nice fun story about Four Complete Randos And Their Grandpa And Pet Chicken And Pet Dragon And Pet Sea Serpent And A Gay Pirate Gang And A Furry And Also A Tortoise At One Point who fight against a Giant Evil Tree that spent like a hundred years absorbing all of the most Evil souls in the world and now he wears a big blue suit of armour and calls himself Exdeath. He wants to conquer and kill and maim and destroy and eventually suck the entire world into The Void for no other reason than he's evil and loves being evil and badass. Not a whole ton of complex plot depth but that's why it's so approachable as a FF game. Also this game is where Gilgamesh and Battle on the Big Bridge came from, plus Omega and Shinryu, so if you like those then you're obligated to play this one. Also one of the main characters is a genderfluid twink with a thing for silver foxes and another is a non-binary/transmasc pirate

1. Kingdom Hearts

I couldn't not lmao. The entire series Of Course but also in this case I specifically mean the first one. Again it might be nostalgia bias but the first KH just has this unique charm to it, this warm atmosphere that none of the others have been able to replicate. Traverse town feels like a second home to me

AEW is kinda like WWE. The main thing is that WWE does lots of talky segments to establish characters and motivations and stuff, to make sure everybody understands the storylines. AEW doesn't hold your hand as much, and tells more of the story through the action during the matches. It might take some getting used to, but it's not too tough.

The big storyline for the July 19 show is the Elite versus the Blackpool Combat Club in a ten-man "blood and guts" match. That's just AEW's name for WWE's WarGames--two rings inside one big cage, wrestlers enter one at a time, the match can't end until all of them are inside. WWE tries to avoid blood and people falling off the top of the cage, but AEW loves doing that stuff in a big match like this. So this may be pretty intense for someone who hasn't watched much outside WWE.

The BCC is a faction created by William Regal, Jon Moxley (Dean Ambrose), and Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan). It's dedicated to honing the craft of violence with hard-hitting wrestling and manly guys doing manly things. Wheeler Yuta joined as their young apprentice, and Claudio Castagnoli (formerly WWE's Cesaro) came in last year when Bryan was hurt. Bryan is hurt right now too, so he won't be in this big match. Konosuke Takeshita is not a member of the BCC but he hates the Elite, so he's helping them out in this match. The fifth man on their team will be a mystery partner.

The Elite is the faction that All Elite Wrestling is named after. If you've only watched WWE you won't know them very well. Kenny Omega is basically the biggest wrestling star that hasn't had a big run in WWE, and the Young Bucks are the hottest tag team that's never been to WWE. Hangman Page has anxiety about being the least important guy in the group, which was a looong storyline for a few years. Feuding with the BCC helped all four guys get back on the same page again. The BCC hates he Elite because they think the Elite aren't tough and badass enough for the BCC's vision of what wrestling should be. The Elite hates the BCC because the BCC keeps trying to stab them with screwdrivers and stuff like that.

The Elite need a fifth guy to be their mystery partner in the cage match. We don't know who that will be but everybody's hoping it will be Kota Ibushi. Ibushi and Omega were tag team partners over ten years ago, and (aside from a reunion in 2018-2019) they've been kept apart for one reason or another. Somebody will probably explain The Lore better than I can, but basically lots of people ship those two and can't wait for them to get back together again. (Think Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in WWE, except with hotter guys.) If Ibushi is in this match, the crowd will go absolutely bananas, and you'll be experiencing A Moment.

Oh, the other big thing is Don Callis. Don has been a mentor to Kenny throughout his career, and he usually shows up when Kenny is being a heel. Kenny's been a face for nearly a year now, so everybody wondered when Don would turn on Kenny, and he finally did a couple of months ago to help the BCC. Don recruited Konosuke Takeshita to be his new protege, and everybody despises Don so both of them get crazy heel reactions now. Don is trying to put together his own faction to fight the Elite, but we're not sure who he's going to recruit yet.

- Echo played such a major role in this episode and honestly I'm so glad. I still think there is so much more room to grow his character, but at least it's something.

Overall, while I did really like the Ryloth episodes, I honestly think this might be my new favorite episode.

The episode itself was well paced

The stakes felt rather high

Fantastic action

Echo played a main part in the storyline

Contributed to not only the plot of the show but added context for how Gregor and Rex meet up

Tech flying and looking hot while doing it...that's very important to the overall ranking

It was engaging and intense with one hell of a cliffhanger at the end

So yeah I really liked this episode! I'm super excited to see what happens next (omg there's only two episodes left oh no scary)!

Keep it Simple: A Sonic IDW Review

And here we are.

The Sonic IDW series. A review of the series done by yours truly. I’m gonna start off by saying that there will be slight spoilers for the most recent Issues (notably Issue 50), so if you wanna get into the series yourself, I highly recommend checking it out before reading this blog. Secondly, spoiler alert; I like the IDW series. But why? What’s my reason? What’s my drive? We’re gonna dive straight into that and it’s all under the cut. Let’s waste no further time and get right to it. 

The Main Series Characters

Nearly every single character from the main series has seen a massive buff as far as their personality is concerned. 

Whenever his ideals and principals are not at the forefront (that is worth an entire blog to talk about which I will get to), Sonic is maximum Sonic. He’s witty, he’s charming and he bounces off of other characters very well. In my eyes, Tails is the character who has seen arguably the largest improvements in the transition from the games to the comics. Friendly, optimistic and incredibly courageous. We’ve seen a return to his Adventure era, which has sorely been missed after Heroes.

Knuckles is a little bit different, but it’s far from bad. He’s still the stubborn, tough and headstrong echidna we know and love, but he also takes things a little bit too seriously (viewing Rough and Tumble’s introduction as a sign that they’re highly coordinated rather than silly). Amy has been given a lot more screen time and she’s very lovable as a result. Her playful attitude with Sonic is great and her desire to help everyone out if possible is equally as good.

My main man Eggman remains largely the same, but with a few extra tweaks which make him amazing. There’s been controversy regarding how in IDW he’s portrayed as a lazy idiot who doesn’t think things through and the contrast with one of Unleashed’s cutscenes (the one where he eats a sandwich), but people also fail to point out how in the same game, he hastily discarded Sonic alongside the Chaos Emeralds. He’s not lazy or stupid, he simply wants Starline (who we’ll get to) off of his case and to shut up.

Aside from that, I absolutely love what they did with the mad doctor. He has a very twisted view of the world, lumping free will with the likes of disease and famine. He is still the same Eggman everyone knows and loves. Thinking on his feet and nearly unbeatable. Metal Sonic saw a return to form as well. Long are the days of just being used as a boss battle. He’s returned to his silent, ruthless and scarily intelligent personality while his belief of ‘Sonic’ being an ideal that he has perfected is more than welcome. Don’t even get me started on Reflections.

Even outside of the main crew, the other colorful characters have seen great buffs to boot. Vector has his role as the leader in the Chaotix justified, Charmy’s a joy with just how optimistic he is, Espio serves as a great contrast to Sonic with his view on justice, Gemerl is more robot-like but his tactical and robotic yet somehow lifelike nature still apply, Rouge is more playful, Omega’s a funny character without treading too far from his roots, Silver’s incredibly optimistic and I am here for it, the Babylon Rouges are more akin to their rebellious and greedy Riders and Zero Riders characters, even Vanilla has great moments in the IDW during the Metal Virus saga and at the end of Badnik Bases And Chao Races.

Cream. Oh my lord, I love what they did with Cream. Despite her age, she is incredibly noble, sensible, empathetic and cares deeply about nearly everyone. Easily a top three character in the series, she absolutely made the Metal Virus saga even better than it is.

Even the Deadly Six get redeemed here. I kid you not. Zavok went from being one of the most joked about characters in the franchise to transforming into a Ridley-esque character. Despite possessing the appearance of a beast, he’s incredibly intelligent and gets really badass lines wherever he goes. While the likes of Zor and Zeena aren’t as buffed as Zavok, they still get great moments to show their stuff rather than just being a generic girl or having no dynamics with any other character. Zazz and Zik have always been one of the better six members, and I’m glad they get more spotlight. Zomom is still better than his game incarnation with cool fight scenes, but he’s pretty much the same. Unfortunate.

The only two characters I don’t feel are too great (at the time of writing) are Blaze and Shadow. Blaze isn’t terribly written as she is just as she’s always been since Rush, but there’s been so little of her it’s hard to comment. I liked how kindhearted and wise she was in Victory Garden, but I find myself struggling to put words together on that one. I’m sorry. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Shadow. What was once a stoic and determined, yet ultimately heroic hedgehog has now been reduced to an arrogant asshole who only cares about proving his dick is bigger than everyone else’s, nevermind how unreasonable he can be.

The IDW Specific Characters

Much like the Archie series, IDW has its own set of unique characters too. A smaller cast, but I’d reckon they are better than the ones seen in Archie (disincluding the Freedom Fighters given how they originated from the SATAM cartoon, not Archie). There’s some discourse about how they aren’t in the games and how they’re ‘OCs’ (FCs would be the proper term), but being a character that is well-written and needing to be canon are not mutually exclusive. (as Archie and Fleetway have proven)

Rough and Tumble are very basic, yet very enjoyable characters whenever they appear on screen. They’re two bad guys who want to wreck stuff and they often falter against the hero, but good God if they aren’t entertaining throughout with their rhymes and their banter. Tangle is in another, similar boat. She’s hyperactive and friendly, but her seemingly boundless optimism and relationship with Whisper really makes the character, even in the darkest of moments. 

Speaking of whom, Whisper. I absolutely love the way her story was told. The subtle glare she gives Shadow in Issue 9, the “Not again!” in the 2019 Annual and the “Why?” in Tangle and Whisper 1. And then there’s Issues 24 and 25. I don’t wanna talk too much about it, but she really makes those Issues even better.

Dr. Starline. Unironically my favorite character in the series, and who I believe serves as the main antagonist for the first 50 Issues of IDW (he doesn’t appear until Issue 11 but shhh). A lot of people refer to Starline as a ‘creator’s pet’ or look down on him as another Snively, but I’m not seeing it. Starline’s just as theatrical as Eggy, but he’s also sophisticated, arrogant, highly manipulative and subtle. He’s used very often, but he’s entertaining from start to finish. He’s always working towards his end goal, but he’s always doing something different and he’s always one of the most expressive characters in the series.

As for Jewel The Beetle, I… think she’s okay. She’s cute and I like how she genuinely loves her job at the Restoration HQ (so much so to the point she had to be dragged away by Tangle in Issue 45), but nothing about her (aside from her design) ever stuck with me. Not even her role in the 2020 Annual. I did feel a similar way about Mimic until I reread Tangle and Whisper. He’s no Doctor Starline, but I love the Chaotic Neutral to Lawful Evil vibes this man gives off. 

We haven’t gotten too much of Clutch yet, but Issue 48 has really made me love whatever’s coming next with him. His dynamic with Rough and Tumble is phenomenal and I love how dirty and sleazy this man is. The IDW’s most recent newcomers in the form of Surge and Kit are some of the best the series has seen. A deliciously dark backstory that does not hamper the pace of Imposter Syndrome, fun personalities and interactions and amazing character designs. I’m more of a Kit fan than Surge, but I feel like she is the better character of the two (they are still both top tier).

Regrettably however, if you’re someone who’s been keeping up with my blogs, you’ll know I dislike Belle The Tinkerer. And while I do feel a little bit more optimistic with her, my thoughts remain largely the same. I’ll keep it short and simple here. Belle’s story is not about moving on from her past and trying to find out where she fits in life. Belle’s story is about moping over the loss of her father, a Mr. Tinker, for nearly FIVE arcs straight. If you read the Issues back to back, the pacing is better, but not only was I someone who joined when Issue 41 released, her storyline repeats over and over. She’s the closest thing to a main character in the Third Saga, and it doesn’t help how repetitive her stories get. She cries about her father, a character cheers her up, she feels better. That is it. Even her role in Issue 50 (despite how much I like Metal Sonic’s interactions with her) feel undercooked. 

All-in-all though, the characters that were made for the IDW are a blast. On average, I’d reckon they’re some of the best characters in the series. 

The Story

At the time of writing this blog, IDW is an ongoing series. Therefore, I do not know what stories lay beyond Issue 54 and Scrapnik Island’s first Issue. What I can safely say though is that the stories we currently have are certified BANGERS.

The first saga is the saga with the fastest pace (at the time of writing) and I heavily appreciate it for that. It only lasts 12 Issues long (with a 2019 Annual and maybe Tangle and Whisper if you wanna count it), but I find the first saga to be a really fun ride from start to finish. It addresses some of Forces’ faults (Tails’ characterization, Eggman’s whereabouts after the event, why you fought a phantom of Metal Sonic) and does so beautifully.

The story itself is very simple. Badniks are regrouping under the helm of a disguised Neo Metal Sonic. After tackling some Badnik hordes and the Mr. Tinker scenario (rest assured I will get to it in the blog about Sonic’s principals), Sonic learns that Neo Metal Sonic is making trouble and sets off to stop him. Neo Metal gets a hold of Angel Island, goes Super and even turns Metal Overlord once again, but is defeated and reverted back to base Metal Sonic.

Certain highlights (for me) include the slight angst Tails has in Issue 1, Sonic and Amy bouncing off of one another in Issue 2, Knuckles taking Rough and Tumble too seriously in Issue 3, Sonic’s ‘break’ in Issue 4, Elder Scruffy’s view on the Tinker scenario in Issue 5, Sonic vs Neo Metal Sonic in Issue 7, Shadow neutralizing Super Neo Metal Sonic in Issue 10, Starline’s introduction and Sonic checking up on Tails after Metal Overlord’s defeat in Issue 11 and ‘Eggdad’ in Issue 12.

Some gripes I do have with the first saga comes down to the introductions of the two fan favorite characters, Tangle and Whisper. Their introductions are very low-key in stark contrast to the introductions to Dr. Starline and even Rough and Tumble. Issue 6 makes me feel very weird with the Sonic and Shadow debate and I’ll be honest, I’m not ready to tackle that yet. I need to think more about it.

Notoriously, we have Sonic and Metal Sonic in Issue 12 too. My gripe here is with Sonic’s reasoning and… later what Issue 50 would claim. Sonic’s reasoning here isn’t ‘If he tries to attack anyone, he’ll fall to pieces and will eventually come around’, it’s ‘we gave him a chance and he denied it’. Additionally, even though Metal Sonic was deweaponized, in Issue 50 Tails claims that he still had his turbine and metal claws, meaning he could go around impaling people willy nilly.

All in all though, the first saga was a great introduction to the IDW. I will always love the faster pace it has compared to the next three sagas. It introduces and recharacterizes multiple characters (for better or for worse) and while it has the least going on, the way it executes the story it tells is good stuff.

And then we have the Metal Virus saga.

My God. I absolutely love it. I’ll start with the pool of negatives the first time around. Of all the characters in the saga, I feel Charmy and (notoriously) Shadow are the two that were handled the worst. Charmy isn’t terribly written or anything, but he’s the first hero to get fully converted and he doesn’t do much aside from motivate Espio and especially Vector. Even after he’s turned back to normal.

And then we have Shadow. He’s just really stupid in this one. “Cowards run. I win.” You all heard it before. He gets himself infected in the worst possible manner and he’s just an idiot. There are notable inconsistencies with the art and how the Metal Virus works too. There’s a bear character in Issue 16 who hasn’t fully been coated in the stuff yet, but he begins to convert. Meanwhile, Sonic almost gets fully infected multiple times but remains the same as ever throughout the entire saga.

Shadow spindashes through a horde of Zombots and is fine, but when he grabs one with his gloves he gets infected. Knuckles punches a Zombot Shadow near the end with his glove, yet he gets infected. Ultimately though, I can forgive all of this because of just how good everything else is. It is a blast from start to finish. After Eggman is done setting up his Metal Virus and unleashes it on the world, all Hell breaks loose.

This gives us easily some of the best and most memorable moments from the entire cast. I don’t know how well the pacing is given I joined in when Issue 42 was waiting to be released and I read it back to back, but I think the pacing here is still very good. Up until the second half of the saga, we are constantly dealing with a fresh batch of characters. The stories may be similar, but the different characters and their dynamics keeps the pacing fresh.

Sonic’s actions and morals are called into account numerous times. By Vector, by Shadow, by Espio, even himself and Eggman. This is what kicks off the themes of Sonic’s principals in the series. Things get worse and worse, and what makes this so good is that we are constantly seeing how characters react and how they break down or even keep a smile on their face until the bitter end. It is amazing.

The Deadly Six actually feel like they live up to their title here. They are deadly. Their electromagnetic abilities are put on full display here and actually makes sense rather than feeling like a reason why Sonic is still busting Badniks after he teams up with Eggman. The second half is notably slower than the first, but I am very easily able to forgive it because again, the content here is so good.

Alright, time for the highlights. It’s gonna be a long one. Everything involving Eggman and Starline from Issues 14 to 25, Vector showing why he’s the leader, the “Team Chaotix!” shout and Vector piling the lady in cars in Issue 17, everything involving Cream and her family from Issue 18 to Issue 31 and Starline and Orbot’s talk in Issue 18, Omega in Issue 19 and 20, the return of the Cyclone in Issue 21, the chat between the monkey and the girl and Vector’s sacrifice in Issue 22, Sonic and Eggman’s talk in Issue 23, everything in Issue 24, Sonic and Metal Sonic’s talk in Issue 26, the Babylon Rouges vs Zik and Espio vs Zazz in Issue 28, all of Issue 29, Eggman’s escape, Zavok’s “No.”, Knuckles’ continued use of “Any second now.” and Shadow vs Metal Sonic in Issue 30, Amy and Jewel, Tails and Tangle’s talk, Shadow and Rouge’s talk, ‘drunk’ Tangle and tail waggy Whisper in Issue 31 and the Restoration vs the Giga Omega in Issue 32.

Good God, there is a lot of everything. I loved so much of this saga. I really, really do. So many great moments, so many great characters, a phenomenal story. It is the best of IDW so far, in my eyes.

Finally, we move onto the most recent saga. At the time of writing this, I am unaware if it has ended or if it is still going, though I assume the latter. The third saga. This is notably the slowest paced saga, focusing more on stories that last four Issues long with the same characters. It’s not terrible, just a different take on the series. That being said though, I feel as if this is the weakest saga we have so far.

I do not hate it for the record. I am aware that Evan has taken charge of the role of the lead writer with Ian in the back. I do believe both of them have their pros and cons as well. I like Evan’s character dynamics a lot more than Ian’s, but I do think he was better at handling angst. That being said, the third saga is a bit of a doozy regarding the story since there isn’t a big ‘overarching plot’ until Trial by Fire.

Coming hot off of the heels of the Metal Virus saga, I am okay with this. We do not need another grandiose saga so soon. Regardless of which, we’re shown numerous stories with two overarching narratives. Of which are represented and owned by two characters. Starline’s rise and fall with Operation Remaster and Belle’s loss of Mr. Tinker. The best of the third saga in my eyes comes from the Imposter Syndrome mini-series and the character dynamics with Sonic, Tails and Amy outside of it.

Surge and Kit are two excellent and enjoyable characters. Their story is deliciously dark and I cannot wait to see where they go with it in the future. The third Issue of Imposter Syndrome really did it for me. 

Highlights include Omega in general, the relationships between Amy, Cream and Rouge and Sonic and Tails in Issues 33 to 36, the return of White Park in general, Shadow roundhouse kicking Clutch in Issue 34, Starline getting his teeth kicked in by Amy and Rouge, Vanilla confronting Amy and Rouge and Shadow and his ‘son’ in Issue 36, Amy immediately sensing where Sonic was, Belle’s blissful ignorance, Tangle and Belle’s dynamic, Jewel’s pride and the greatest character of all time, ‘Monkey Man’ in Issue 37, everything with Sonic, Tails and Amy in Issues 37 to 40, Orbot and Cubot in Issue 38, Belle’s confusion to Tangle’s plan near the end of Issue 39, Belle and Eggman’s talk in Issue 40, ‘Baldy Nosehair’ and  Zavok’s thought process and plan in Issue 41, Sonic in his entirety in Issue 42, The Deadly Six vs Sonic and Tails’ vs Zavok in Issue 43, Sonic sending the Deadly Six back, Starline and The Chaotix in general and Zavok’s proclamation in Issue 44, more of Sonic, Tails and Amy in the beginning, Tangle needing to drag Jewel away from her work in, Tangle daydreaming about Whisper all day and the return of Motobud in Issue 45, Belle and Ashe and Belle and Tangle in Issue 46 and 47, Sonic and Amy in Issue 47, Charmy falling asleep and carrying Vector and Espio out of traffic, Espio’s subtle comments beneath the sewers and The Chaotix vs Clutch, Rouge and Tumble in Issue 48, Sonic’s dialouge and Belle’s lines in Issue 49, just about everything in Issue 50, Sonic throwing Belle into an alley, Eggman seeing right through Sonic’s distraction and Metal Sonic’s subtle rage in Issue 51.

As for things I didn’t like, this is gonna sound really harsh but anything involving Belle that I didn’t mention above I was not a fan of. I didn’t quite like her introduction, Zeti Hunt destroyed her as a character for me and I found Tinker’s letter to be really dumb. For as much as I like Starline, his part in the B Plot of Zeti Hunt alongside Belle had no connection to the actual story. I don’t think anybody would ask how he got the Imposters out so quickly if they just cut it from the story.

The drama between the characters in Issue 45 I was not a fan of either. I think it lasted too long and it felt jammed in there. I did really enjoy the small panels when Belle and Metal Sonic did interact, but I found it weird how quickly and anti-climactic their part ended. Maybe that’ll change when Issue 52 rolls around.

So yeah, this might be my least favorite saga so far (could change in the future), but it’s moreso because someone has to unfortunately be at the bottom. With just a few stories, it could swing to swap places with the first saga. 

Before I conclude this blog, I wanna talk about something going around Tumblr. Lately I’ve been seeing an Anon go on the blogs of people who don’t like IDW and I gotta call them out for it. I do not endorse people who spread negativity nor do I support people who try to cram the series down the throats of people who do not like it. If you’ve tasted the series and do not like it, it is okay. You do not need to keep chewing and nobody should force you to.

So yeah, that is it. Over 3,000 characters. Needless to say, I wanted to pump out everything I could regarding the main series of the IDW and why I enjoy it. I also love the mini-series and most of the Annuals stories, though I do not believe I will be covering them. Top 5 favorite Male and Female Wrestlers and Why?

Edge: I think he can be responsible for officially getting me back into the world of wrestling full time back in 2004-05. His run towards becoming a champion and how psychotic and obsessed it made him was just really cool to me. The night he cashed in the MITB contract to become WWE Champion was just so special for many reasons. it solidified what that briefcase could mean for years to come, it gave the people someone that could actually topple "Super Cena" and it finally gave Edge the very thing he's burned every single bridge to get. He's the first and for a time only bad guy that ever made me actually root for them. Not to mention he had the most badass theme and entrance on the roster and today that still holds true. It is impossible for anyone to be cooler than Edge to me.

Victoria: She was and always will be not the lady to mess with. Victoria was right up there with Edge for me in the realm of psychotic badasses. Hell, I even hoped they would end up being paired together before Lita came and showed why that spot was hers. I always really enjoyed Victoria's character though and her finisher Widow's Peak is some sick shit. Best believe I had her wrecking everybody in SVR 2009.

The Miz: As far as I'm concerned anyone that can bring themselves to actually dislike The Miz and think he hasn't earned every right to achieve the things he has hasn't been paying attention. WWE themselves are even sleeping if they honestly think they shouldn't let him have a real run with THE title again. He has more than proved countless times that he can carry a show, carry a feud and carry a championship to absolute relevancy. Miz is a main event caliber star and as the music states he is in fact AWESOME. Punk's jealous-ass can kick rocks.

Mickie James: That woman has accomplished so much in the industry and for the industry that she is worthy of every single flower you could give her. And to top it all off she's not even remotely close to done. With everything that she's doing now it should cause the person that picked up that trash bag to cut their hands off out of sheer shame. She should be right up on that pedestal with Trish and Lita and so should Victoria. Not to mention she is finer than any wine you could find in a cellar 'cause GOODT LORDT.

Bray Wyatt: Truly the definition of infinite potential because you know that mind and his creativity will never stop rising. There is no such thing as a glass ceiling no matter how much WWE wanted it to be there. I look forward to seeing what he does next because from swamp cult leader to devil incarnate to demonic Mister Rogers to slasher killer Bray has hit shit out of the park every time. Everyone should be scared and excited for what comes next because that creative monster is loose and as he says; you can't kill it.

Jade Cargill: That woman is a goddamn amazon directly from Themyscira. She has not been in the game long but damn if she doesn't have my utmost attention every time she's on screen. She just captures it like she captures her opponents in the ring because she is as advertised and that is DAT BITCH. I look forward to seeing her rise in the industry and only getting better.

Roman Reigns: If star power was a person it would be Roman Reigns. He is someone that was always capable of having that very thrown around "IT" and it took WWE such a long time to actually let him utilize that to it's fullest potential. He is the "Head Of The Table" and the "Tribal Chief for a reason. People like to bring it up in discussion about who's the better champion for their company; Roman Reigns or Kenny Omega and for me that's always been a very easy question if I had to choose. Nothing at all personal against Omega but to quote Reigns himself there are levels to this. Levels that nobody else is touching right now as THE champion of their respective company. At least not to me. Honestly in the end you have to appreciate that it took WWE such a long time because now it makes his current persona all the more sweeter.

(I'm going to cheat a bit but I have to put these 2 together..) Asuka & Kairi Sane: When I tell you that these 2 became a match made in heaven the moment they turned heel to win those Tag Team Championships you have to believe me. Their initial face run was all a bit questionable. As questionable as the name "Kabuki Warriors" was itself but it was that heel run that made it all gel so perfectly. They were fucking magic together and just played off each other so well. Hell, they did so well they were the main event of TLC against Charlotte and Becky AND they fucking won. I still feel bad about Kairi in that match though. She earned every right to get to enjoy that moment and unfortunately she couldn't. Kabuki Warriors 5 Life.

LA Knight: In my head it's always going to be "E-LI DRAKE" but he is another person that just oozes the vibe that "This is your guy, this is who you should be building your brand around" and if the company he's in doesn't get that same vibe then they better not waste his time. He is honestly what got me back into watching Impact Wrestling with just how good he was every time he was on screen. He was THE reason to watch anything they were doing and I'm not saying that to be insulting; it's just a fact of life. No matter what's about to happen to NXT I hope to see him still be able to get to the level he should be there which is at the very top. His career is something I intend to follow no matter where he goes.

Hikaru Shida: She's all around just a personal favorite of mine. When it comes to her I ain't even gonna try to be unbiased. Her look and her in-ring style just had me hooked from the get go. So much so that when they introduced the AEW Women's Championship for the first time it just seemed destined for her and best believe I was ecstatic when she finally won it. I'm always going to really wish she got more TV time during her reign as champion though. And it may just be me wishful thinking but I feel like she might be up to something on Dark Elevation and the day she finally comes back to the main show I think she's going to bring something new with her.

Sae: (Giggles Softly) Seriously?

Futuba: (Smiles Brightly) Yeah, seriously! I mean, granted, I'm not the biggest romantic out there, but if I had to spend hours in my room, writing the most sappest poem on why I wanna take you out on a date....(Points Two of her Finger Guns at Sae) then I'd do it all for you no problem.

Sae: (Giggles Once More) I'm so flattered!~ But I honestly don't mind being single for a little longer. Plus, I wouldn't want to steal you from that Inari kid.

Futuba: (Eyes Widened in Complete Shock as She Starts Blushing) HUUUUH!? (Quickly Turns to Sae) W-W-What are you talking about!? I don't have a thing for that guy!!

Sae: You sure? I've seen the two of you together once or twice before and you look like you seemed to be enjoying his company fairly well. Which reminds me, what kind of name is Inari supposed to be anyways? Is it a middle name of sorts? Or do you call him that to make him stand out in your point of view?

Futuba: (Starts Facepalming herself) Oh for God sakes..... There's no deep meaning involving the name, Sae! Inari is just Inari. Simple as that! And besides, even if I do like spending time with him from time to time, there's no way as someone as smart and intelligent as myself, would ever be romantically interested in a dopey, weird.... (Suddenly Starts Mumbling) artistic, funny, sweet, and cu-(Turns Back to See Saw Smirking at Her) You heard all of that, didn't you?

Futuba: Cause you're sitting right next to him. And besides, don't you ever wonder how fluffy his hair is?

Sae: (Thinks About Futuba's Words For a Few Seconds Before Sighing in a Bit of Defeat) Alright....If you're really that certain.... But I'm ONLY doing this once. (Slowly and Soundlessly Reach Hand Towards Ren's Hair Before Gently Stroking It) Oh wow.....It really is fluffy.

Futuba: I know, right!?~ I've always wondered how he managed to get hair like that. It has to be some kind of rare conditioner we haven't heard from.

Sae: Maybe. Or he just took care of his hair fairly well for the most part. (Move her Hand Away from Ren's Hair)

Futuba: Yeah. That too.

TV Screen: MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, VEGETAAAAA!

Futuba: (Groans While Covering her Face in Annoyance) ('Ugggggh') Seriously, Goku!? Do you HAVE to step in and steal Vegeta's thunder like that!?

Sae: (Starts Rolling her Eyes) I know, right? Freiza annihilated his entire race and effortlessly killed him in Planet Namikan. If anyone deserve to finish the scumbag off, it most certainly should've been him alone.

Futuba: EXACTLY!!!

The duo stops talking and immediately turn their heads to an awaken Haru who is tirelessly glaring at them.

Haru: Could you please keep it down among yourselves? Everyone in this room is trying to sleep and I am trying to have mines in a beauty like fashion! (Turns her Glare into a Scary One) You don't wanna upset a tired, young woman with an axe, do you?

Futuba: (Immediately Scared Shitless) Nononono! We're good! We're good!

Ben Gen 10 - Live Reaction Review

Right, so since I’ve finally got my hands on the new crossover episodes, and since my favourite show of all time is Generator Rex, I thought I’d watch it and write down things along the way. Mostly just reactions to things happening as they go, and then probably a simple review at the in another post of what I liked, didn’t like, and maybe what other ways this episode could have gone.

Spoilers! Kind of, for those who haven’t seen it yet! But onto the watching!

Should probably mention I haven’t seen a whole lot of the Reboot Ben 10. Not awful from what I’ve seen, some interesting and well-done aspect even, but certainly not my cup of tea. But I’m here for my boi Rex anyway so…

This is actually quite a cute theme song intro, not gonna lie

Lol, of course they use Heatblast as the first alien in the episode, got the same voice actor as Rex, nice touch.

Also, what is Providence in this world? What are EVOs and Nanites in this world? None of this has been explained yet.

Ok, so that’s what Providence is...You’d think we would have seen them before based on all the aliens showing up who want to destroy the world.

EVO Generator....I wonder if that means that there aren’t very many EVOs, like maybe there is only a set group from the same lab, and Rex is considered the most dangerous because he can make EVOs.

Ben, do you even know what an EVO is?

Jeez, I know Six is like, the sixth deadliest man on the planet, but he just tackles alien Ben like it’s nothing. This guy should take on Vilgax.

I’m not liking this Six...very much not the character I’ve come to love. Who are you and what have you done with the real Six!

I do have to ask why Hex was picked to me the main villain, beyond whatever the hell Providence is doing. Why the magic dude and not a tech based villain? Someone who could be both interested in the watch and nanites.

“No, those are my aliens!” I think that’s the least of your concern there, Ben.

Why is Bobo one of the best-written character’s here? Not that I hate Bobo, but just…

Are there EVOs are are there not!?

I know this is supposed to connect with older fans, but most of this info would fly over the head of anyone who hasn’t watched Generator Rex. They act like everyone knows what EVOs and nanites are.

Still with the blame game are we, Ben?

Judging by that look, Rex’s parents are also dead in this world. Guess he’s not allowed nice things in this universe either.

That flashback was….so latching in the dramatic department. 

Now ya wanna help, Ben.

He’s so scared of himself, noooo!

Ya, but the different between you and him, Ben, is that he lost his parents, his home, got mutated, his memories became hazy, got locked up and called a monster, and now lives on the streets stealing smores. I think Rex has more of a reason to feel scared at being new with the hero business.

Gotta love they added details on Gwen and Max’s alien forms to make them stick out from the rest. Don’t want to confuse anyone lol.

Thinking of a clever comeback on the spot is hard, not gonna lie.

Again, with the American music, lol. It ruins the fight scene here.

What is this fight scene?

Original Providence agents would have died on screen rather than ditching the fight.

God, everyone’s made Rex feel like everything is his fault, poor guy.

This message and heartfelt moment falls flat, the build-up wasn’t there and it just...kind of happens. It lacks a lot of flavour and impact, and it doesn’t help with how most of these characters are written.

Old people jokes.

Now we shift the blame to Kevin.

Is Fourarms Gwen bigger? Because if so, nice touch, since we know female Tetramands are stronger/bigger than the men.

Ok, so attempted murder is fine when Six and Ben try to do it, but not Rex, got it.

Get in line Hex, you’re not the first who wants to ‘recruit’ Rex. You’ve got Providence, Van Kleiss, Quarry, Black Knight, that one band, and so on so fourth.

Why is this heartfelt moment suddenly happening now? This feels like it could have been placed back when Rex refused to fix the watch.

Ben…”I’ve already tried that!” Bruh, you tried beating him up, telling Six and Providence you saw him, basically acted like he wasn’t a good hero because he refuses to get over his trauma, and reached out your hand once because it benefited you....I get what they’re trying to do, but it just makes Ben look like a jerk. I get he’s ten, but still…

Just...slap him Bobo, please…

Why are we so nervous about Rex’s sword? Ben you have aliens that can burn, cut, smash and so on, and you barely care what you do. Remember how you nearly started that forest fire at the start?...

Yo, what!? What kind of logic is that, Providence? “Whelp, guess earth is screwed, might as well burn it”

Ya, remember that time when EVOs infected the whole world, and Providence decided to just burn everything down with lasers?

So the episode starts with Rex being alone, homeless and being chased by Providence, and ends with him being alone, homeless and being chased by Providence. What was the improvement here? Self Confident?

Ben even just lets him go, doesn’t even offer him to stay with his family.

Rex deserves better.

Another heartfelt moment that just...falls flat…

“Always be family and be there for you, Ben” Until you go to college without telling him before hand

So!...That was the crossover. Not...amazing sadly. I didn’t have high hopes to begin with, and mostly was just happy enough to have Gen Rex be acknowledged. But this Crossover missed a lot of points, and fumbles quite a bit. It reminds me a lot of the Secret Saturdays Crossover and what was wrong there. But I’m tired and will do a break down/proper review another day, if people are keen for that. Thanks for reading this if you did, it was a rollercoster!

Like I said, pretty dark and serious, so if that isn’t your thing don’t read, but it’s amazing

Three Lives, Three Loves, One Face by @these-dreams-go-on (complete)

This fic has a ton of my favorite themes all mashed together and it’s amazing. Basically it’s similar to the Josephine!Clarke situation of s6, but Wanheda is an actual manifestation also inhabiting Clarke’s body so when Josie gets put into Clarke, Wanheda takes over and goes mass murder on Sanctum. Phenomenal fic, I’ve read it so many times and I adore it

Into The Anomaly by @fuckitup-in-style (WIP)

Time Travel AU!!! Starts after s6, but resets back to s1 canon divergence. The hundred all wake up on dropships and they all remember up until their deaths, and then it’s this thing where the mains all take charge and start herding up their crew. Just- if you like time travel fix-its, this is p e r f e c t please read it

I just read this one recently and g o d is it amazing. After being left alone during Praimfaya, Clarke finds herself becoming desperate after being alone for so long. Until she finds out there’s been a grounder watching her the whole time. Grounder!Bellamy AU, with some accidental pregnancy that just makes it even cuter

I Found Peace in Your Violence by @eyessharpweaponshot (WIP)

I just found this fic a few days ago and holy shit is it a piece of art. I finally went through and read the entire 80k fic last night, it’s absolutely enthralling. Basically, there’s this gene called HTS and Clarke ends up having it, and so does Bellamy, and it’s just a beautiful story from both a romance and a plot standpoint. Such an interesting concept

This isn’t a super long fic, it’s 20k right now and hasn’t been updated in a few months but what’s there is amazing. So the delinquent group is desperately trying to get Bellamy and Clarke together since they’re constantly denying their chemistry, but what the delinquents don’t know is that Clarke and Bell have actually already been together in secret and it’s such a fun fic, highly recommend

Don’t Wake Me, I’m Not Dreaming by grumpybell (complete) (I can’t find their tumblr sorry)

A very interesting AU where Clarke can see into other people’s dreams. She’s been meeting Bellamy in his dreams for years, him being the only person who could actually see her. Guess what happens when they meet in person? Probably not what you expect. Read the fic to find out, you’ll love it

I love love love this fic!! It basically mashes together the worlds of The 100 and Deus-ex, and if you don’t know what the latter is don’t worry too much, the fic gives all the backstory you’ll need!! Basically Clarke gets severly injured and ends up with augmented limbs, and Lexa, thinking Clarke dead, has some pretty severe reactions to it all. Kind of an enemies-to-lovers, but it’s set after the s2 finale

Clarke Kom Azgeda by FMLClexa (WIP)

This fic combines so many of my favorite ideas it’s amazing. Coming back after a long hiatus, basically Clarke gets sent down to Earth alone and ends up in Azgeda territory. She’s tortured and trained into Nia’s top assassin for years, and eventually gets the order to infiltrate Polis and kill the commander. You can guess how that goes

A Riffle and the Sea by Follower_Of_Mania (complete)

I will say it’s been a while since I read this fic but it’s amazing. Another Clarke gets sent to Earth alone AU, but she gets adopted by Floukru and trained to be a seriously badass killer grounder, like even Lexa is pretty put off by her. Clarke and Lexa develop this really interesting relationship where half the time you can’t tell if they love or hate each other and it’s amazing

Ascendants by whiteleopard1124 (WIP)

So this isn’t entirely clexa, it’s also clarke x luna but it’s clexa enough. Basically Clarke and the hundred get injected with this solution before being sent to the ground, and it causes certain people to develop supernatural powers. But Clarke gets injected with a special serum that causes her to be extra-OP but like in a very very good way

doing the impossible (with you) by snowandwolves (WIP)

Another Time Travel AU where Clarke kills herself and, after having a discussion with the goddess of death herself, wakes up back in time. She (and her accomplices) work out how to rewrite their story and make everything go better than it did last time. One of the best time travel fics, in my opinion

Healer on the Ground by Owlmemaybe (WIP)

This has long been one of my favorite fics, I love AUs where Clarke turns grounder, and that’s exactly what this is. Basically Clarke has a healing talent, so she can heal herself and others on command, and during s1 gets separated from the 100 and ends up with Heda. Another fic that isn’t likely to get updated, but it’s 100k of goodness that you h a v e to read

Whispers In The Dark (Lead Us To The Light) by JadelynDeath (WIP)

This one also hasn’t been updated very recently, but it’s still 50k good words to enjoy. Wanheda!Clarke AU where Death is a real being and takes a liking to Clarke before she even touches the ground, and once on Earth Clarke is an absolute badass in leading the delinquents.

It took me so long to actually finish this fic once I started reading because oh my god the angst, it was actually too much for me. This is a beautifully written story, so many emotions, can’t recommend it enough. Basically, Clarke gets separated from the 100 and ends up temporarily mute while she’s taken in by Heda

Another big-time favorite, this has badass commanders Heda and Wanheda. The grounder culture is different in this fic, but in such a good way. They’re much more tribal than is portrayed in the show, preferring not much clothing, bloodthirstiness, but it’s amazing. Also Bellamy comes in and makes a fuss of things

Through the Looking Glass by RhinoMouse (WIP)

Role Reversal AU where Lexa comes down with the 100 and Clarke is a BAMF Commander of the grounders. It’s been a really long time since I’ve read this one but I remember loving every second of it. Faintly follows the s2 plot, but it’s different enough that not a second of it is boring

Can you See Me? by clexawarrior (complicated)

Okay so basically this story was discontinued, but the author left a summary of how it would’ve played out at the end, so it’s... complicated. But this is another one of my favorites!! Lexa was at the explosion on the bridge and got injured, Clarke brings her back to the dropship to care for her. A lot of sexual tension ensues

I love love love this fic!!! So basically the dropship landed in the sea rather than on land, the ship explodes, leaving Clarke stranded alone in the middle of the ocean. She’s rescued by a clan called Tseekru and after years of living with them, has a run-in with our one and only Heda and sets this whole thing going. Amazing fic, so many twists

Returning to Hell by ElseworldKara, littleraider99 (complete)

If you haven’t read this fic what have you even been doing honestly. Set two years after the s2 finale, Clarke leads the coalition beside Heda, and she’s returned to Arkadia to finally tell them to get their shit together or suffer the consequences. Very dark, a lot of character bashing on Abby, Bellamy, and others. An inspiration for many of my own fics

Then There Were Two by TheWorldNeedsMoreOctaven (WIP)

I haven’t read the most recent chapters of this, but it’s phenomenal. ABO universe where Clarke is the only omega sent down in the hundred (later followed by Raven), and they have to deal with the grounders and nature. It’s a lot more interesting than I make it sound, promise. Also very octavia/raven based too

Doctor on the Ground by @underneaththecovers-au (WIP)

Very angsty, very smutty fic. Clarke finds an injured Lexa while out of camp and takes her to the bunker to help her heal. Lexa pretends she can’t understand English, but even with the barrier, things get heated very quickly. You can imagine the chaos when Lexa’s secret gets out. Must-read

This is pretty short, only 16k words, but god is it good. If you like dark!clarke, this is the story for you. Clarke, Lexa, Octavia, and Raven are all a bunch of criminals who run around- saving people?? That makes it sound like a superhero story but no, they’re all badass. Clarke is literally a psychopathic ex-assassin. It’s just an amazing fic

Are You A Kidnapper? (Because You Abducted My Heart) by 707 (complete)

This isn’t normally the type of fic that I like to read but I’m so glad I picked it up. So Clarke and Lexa have this hatred going on between them that’s actually just hidden attraction, and they’re finally forced to address it when they get kidnapped and locked in a room together. This fic has it all, fluff, smut, angst, an amazing plot, it’s just all around wonderful

Make Two Halves Whole by awkwardrainbow, Lexawoodz (WIP)

This one I also don’t remember all that much about other than that it was amazing. It’s been years since it was updated, though, so I doubt we’ll get any more, but what’s there is 80k worth of goodness. Clarke and Lexa meet online through Twitter, living on opposite sides of the US, but still manage to fall in love with each other

So this is another long-time favorite of mine!! It’s a 36k oneshot where Clarke moves into a house that ghost Lexa haunts but instead of being creeped out Clarke just starts chatting up the ghost and they become roommate buddies. Such a good fic, I highly highly recommend this one

I’m putting this one down here rather than in modern AU just because of how different it is from most modern AUs. Lexa goes camping with her friends out in the woods, some shit happens, and she meets what’s basically grounder Clarke, with a twist. This fic is so captivating, I loved it

ABO modern AU where omegas are sold as slaves to alphas. Clarke is an omega who is bought by Lexa’s father as a gift to her, but Lexa doesn’t like the way omegas are treated and goes out of her way to give Clarke the best life she could possibly have

Review:

I really liked this mature, darker take on transformers. Recent media on the transformers were light-hearted and kid-friendly, so this was a refreshing take on them. Lots of nice cameos, I hope we can see more of the cameos as characters with important roles, such as Cliffjumper. The story was easy to follow, but it constantly jumps into new side-stories. The fight scenes were amazing, but there were only a few amount of fights in the series. Theres alot of talking in this. It's fine, but theres like ALOT of talking. The excessive talking may be seen as a flaw to people, but it is not for me.

Onto flaws, several side stories took place at once, it was executed well, and I like how they all ended with each other, but it was alot to pay attention with in a short amount of time. That's just me, personally. Another flaw is the stiffness in the characters. It is great animation, but like in previous series, the characters seem stiff because of the blockiness some of them have. Personally, I dont find the voice acting too bad, I think the actors did well.

I have questions on what happens next. How is it going to take place on earth if some of the main cast are on cybertron? The decepticons are on cybertron, who's going to be the enemy? Is Earthrise not going to happen for another season?

AEW needs to fix their women’s division

AEW’s women’s division desperately needs help and needs more screen time. 

AEW have done more to set women's professional wrestling back than bring it forward. From forcing Brandi into programs to their deliberate non-efforts in actually building any of the Japanese women with promos or video packages or any angles of note until they lost them all to Covid travel restrictions. Only in the past four or so months did they let Hikaru Shida even speak. That's straight up bigoted, culturally elitist, racist shit.

Hikaru Shida is badass, a very likable champion in and outside of the ring.  But she is rarely given the time of day on Dynamite and barely enough time to build storylines or feuds. AEW NEEDS to do better by Shida. 

The problem is only two people in AEW who they actually allow screen time. Britt Baker and Brandi Rhodes. 

As far as I'm concerned with, Britt Baker is the closest thing they will have to a star. She's great on the mic, talented, her role model/dentist gimmick is awesome and Britt just feels like she should be champion.

Now the problem isn’t Britt. The problem is Brandi. Brandi has to be everywhere. She always has to be in the spotlight. To the nightmare collective to tagging with Allie(when she was already in a stable to begin with??) to always being there with Cody. Even when she doesn’t need to be there or when it’s not even in the women’s division, Brandi is always there. Brandi Rhodes camera hogging and attention whoring has been a detriment to their women’s division. I joke about Brandi being a discount Stephanie, but she really seems like she wants to be Stephanie complete with always being a presence and even having her job title. The only difference is Stephanie has more charisma and grit and is just that one person you can’t help but love to hate. Brandi is just annoying. 

AEW spent more time on the nobody-fucking-gives-a-shit camera hog Brandi Runnells and Britt Baker than the rest of their entire women's roster. Hell, even the women dancers in Kenny Omega and Cody’s entrances get more screen time than their entire division

There is a complete lack of development for anyone NOT named Brandi Rhodes or Britt Baker. 

Sorry/not sorry. AEW are even trailing WWE's atrocious main roster booking of women, hell it’s almost as bad as WWE’s Divas era complete with a bad belt design and they show no signs of helping to develop that division in any way. Oh, and all of the bookers are men. Brandi doesn't count because she knows fuck all about booking (and branding). Men who book shit are doing their shittiest at booking one of the worst women's divisions going at the moment. None of the talent grow and zero effort is being made to make that happen. Zero. Hey, pay $50 bucks though and AEW will pretend to care with their "Heels" online ponzi scheme program. I mean, how fucking condescending is that? Naming some hokum ponzi scheme "online safe space" for female fans that requires $50 to talk about a  promotion who has done fuck all beyond virtue signaling for their women's division. Let's play on the name of women's fucking shoes because it goes with the biz lingo for the tough, bad guys (fuck you very much, Brandi Rhodes).

Then Nyla Rose. Goddamn I love the native beast. She was awesome since her debut and I always thought she should’ve been the first AEW Women’s Champion and held onto it until Shida dethrones her, giving Nyla plenty of time to squash the entire division and building up her character. Giving her Vickie Guerrero as a manager was a smart move. But why did they wait so long for a rematch? Her statistics is higher than anyone on the roster. Even higher than Riho. Yet they gave the match to Big Swole? Glad she’s getting a rematch at Full Gear, but it feels a little too late.

Abadon. I love my zombie queen. She is a beautiful work of art. Still green, but she’ll get there. She certainly deserves to be featured more frequently on Dynamite. Seriously, stop keeping her on Dark and let her thrive and scare the shit out of everyone on dynamite. She has an awesome character and has perfected her look. No one knows much about her outside of the ring which adds to it. She can definitely help build the women’s division which desperately needs talent. I just see Abadon as AEW’s Undertaker. A character so mystique and compelling, that she doesn’t need the title, at least not yet.

Thunder Rosa. Her match with Shida gave their women’s division the attention it very well deserves. It was the best match at All Out and just shows how much potential their division has.

As of right now, the only ones who I feel can elevate their division are Britt Baker and Anna Jay or unless they sign Thunder Rosa. The more they focus on the NWA women, the less screen time the ladies of AEW can have a chance to shine and improve themselves. Yes, Serena Deeb is signed with AEW. But she's the NWA Women's Champion, not the AEW Woman's Champion. That's the problem, they focus on the wrong championship. It says a lot of how little faith they have in their own champion, plus the small size of the actual title in question is symbolic of how little the powers that be actually cares about their own women's division.

It would be one thing if the brain trust could just admit their booking of the women is bad, but they won't. Considering that even Cody admitted there isn't a problem, there doesn't seem like any sign of change.

It says a lot when NXT, what your EVP refers to as a “developmental brand” is doing so much better for their women’s division than yours, is just really telling.

Sign Thunder Rosa. She is the solution. 

It may not fix everything, but it gives you your needed star power and honestly fuck Ivelisse’s unprofessionalism. Tony Khan should be begging on his hands and knees to sign Thunder Rosa in 2021 after her time with the NWA is up, his women’s division is getting their asses kicked by what Kenny refers to as a “developmental brand” and if WWE signs Thunder Rosa, then AEW’s women’s division might be fucked.

There’s still some time to do what’s right for your women’s division, but the only thing that remains to be seen, does the powers that be of AEW even care?

All Out 2020 Predictions

Just gonna run down the card here, because I keep forgetting what’s on this show, and it is stacked.    

Side note: Looking this up on Wikipedia made me sad, because the article points out that the show was originally planned for a whole other venue before the pandemic started.  I had gotten so used to every AEW show being held in Jacksonville, that I had forgotten the good old days, when they could run every show in Chicago.

Casino Battle Royale, winner gets a shot at the AEW title

I thought they gave up on this stip when they did the Casino Ladder Match at Double-or-Nothing.   Here’s a dumb thought: Ditch the casino nonsense.   The last two casino battle royals were kind of dumb, because they sent out five guys at a time, and then the 21st guy got to come out last by himself.   The problem I had was that I had no idea who half the participants were, and sending them out in fives made it that much harder to keep track.  

Anyway, this time around it’s easier to just list them by faction.    We have

The Dark Order (Brodie Lee, Evil Uno, Stu Grayson, Colt Cabana) vs. Scorpio Sky, Matt Cardona, Dustin Rhodes, & QT Marshall.  

This is like the Dark Order vs. the Dark Order Revenge Squad, trying to make Brodie pay for beating the shit out of Cody.   I saw a video package for this on Dynamite yesterday, and it was fucking stupid, because they wanted me to believe that the good guy team are “four badasses”, even though one of them is QT Marshall for crying out loud.   They do this horseshit all the time, where a group of babyfaces try to gang up on the Dark Order, but it never works because the faces never bring enough guys.   There’s like eight or nine dudes in the Dark Order, so unless your team has ten or eleven, you’re gonna get your asses kicked.    Brodie killed Cody like he was nothing, so why am I supposed to believe Dustin has a chance in hell?  

The last time Scorpio Sky was on one of these anti-DO posse teams, it was with Colt Cabana and his partners in SCU.    Well, Colt ended up switching sides, and apparently Chris Daniels and Kazarian aren’t even booked, so that tells me what I need to know.     Dark Order wins.  

Britt Baker vs. Swole in a Tooth and Nail Match.

I don’t know if “Tooth and Nail” is an actual stipulation, or if they’re just calling it that for promotional purposes.  I wish they’d spell out the rules to these things instead of just calling out the names of matches like catchphrases.   Swole would look pretty dumb if she loses this, so I’m picking her to win.  

Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara  in a “Broken Rules” Match.

Wikipedia says this is a Last Man Standing match, so maybe they should have just called it that?  I mean, less than a month ago Matt claimed that he was ditching all his characters for the duration of the pandemic, and now he’s right back to chanting “Delete!” like nothing changed.   I heard a lot about Matt’s cinematic universe run in Impact, but so far I’m not overly impressed with his run in AEW.   He just makes a bunch of callbacks to stuff he did in WWE, Impact, and ROH like I’m supposed to know or give a shit about that time he was a douchebag.     If Matt loses, he’s supposed to leave AEW, but I’m pretty sure this is a trick, and he’ll just come back as “Leviticus” and pretend to be a robot from outer space.   I don’t think I care who wins.

Jurassic Express vs. The Young Bucks.

Why are these guys fighting?    I feel like they already did on TV?    I’m gonna pull for JE to win this one.    I think the Bucks might be my favorite act in AEW, but I mostly enjoy seeing them get the shit beat out of them.    Yeah, kill the Young Bucks.   

Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy in a Mimosa Mayhem Match.

You can win Mimosa Mayhem by pinfall, submission, or dumping your opponent into a big tank of mimosa.    I guess this is a way for OC to win their feud without actually pinning Jericho twice?    Alternately, the loser can get pinned, only to dump the winner in the tank to get a moral victory.    I’ll go with Orange to win.  

AEW Tag Team Championship: Kenny Omega/Hangman vs. FTR

Now that they finally kicked Hangman out of the Elite, and FTR has finally stopped pretending not to be heels, and now that Kenny Omega finally seems to give a shit about his tag team, I think this program could finally lead to something cool.    I sort of want FTR to win, just to move the Hangman/Omega angle onto the next stage.     If the tag titles are the only thing keeping that team together than we need to see what happens without them.  

Also, I want FTR to defend the titles against Santana and Ortiz.    Yeah, no offense to Omega and Hangman, but fuck this Elite Drama Bullshit, gimme FTR vs. PnP.

AEW Women’s Championship: Hikaru Shida vs. Thunder Rosa.

Fuck yeah, this is the real main event right here.    Thunder Rosa kicks ass, and now she can show her stuff without the nonsensical soap opera booking found in the NWA women’s division.   The last time I saw Thunder Rosa in NWA, Melina had inexplicably declared that she had a title match against Rosa, but when the match actually happened, Melina just rolled out of the ring and took a countout.    Seeing Eddie Kingston, Ricky Starks, and Thunder Rosa has opened my eyes to a lot of problems in NWA.

Anyway, here’s the AEW storyline for Thunder Rosa: Shida wanted competition, and Thunder Rosa showed up to kick her ass and take her belt.   I suspect Shida’s going to win, because Rosa’s NWA title isn’t on the line, but I’m rooting for Thunder Rosa to become the double champ.  

AEW Men’s Championship: Jon Moxley vs. MJF.

I want Moxley to win, although I’m not 100% sure this isn’t MJF’s time.   It feels too soon, but I didn’t think Moxley would win the title from Jericho back in February either.   Also, if Moxley loses the title, it might make it easier for AEW and NJPW to open the Forbidden Door long enough for him to defend the IWGP U.S. title against KENTA.    Is that worth putting the world title on MJF?   Probably not, but it’s fun to think about.  

I don’t understand this feud at all, because MJF has been “campaigning” for a world title shot, even though he’s the #1 contender and he’s undefeated, so I’m pretty sure he could just request the match and he’s all set.    MJF has also successfully lobbied to have Moxley’s finisher banned from their match, but what if Mox uses it anyway?   They’d just disqualify him and he’d retain the title, right?    Or maybe the ref would just stand there and let him do it anyway, because that seems to be how AEW referees do things.   

I really don’t get why MJF wanted the Paradigm Shift banned.   He got hit with one like two weeks ago, and he acted like it half-crippled him, but then he revealed it didn’t hurt him that badly, so why does he care if he takes another one?  MJF also seems to have this thing going on where he pretends to be this high-road-taking “pure wrestler”, who can out-finesse Moxley’s brawling style, but we’ve seen MJF just go apeshit and use hardcore tactics himself.  

This is kind of an aside, but I find it funny when Jim Cornette acts surprised when people accuse him of playing a character on his podcasts.   He’ll be like “No, no, you don’t understand, I really hate Vince Russo and Kenny Omega and I want them both dead for not respecting kayfabe!”    The thing is, wrestlers like MJF and FTR are out here repeating a lot of Cornette’s talking points on TV, specifically to get heel heat.   They praise themselves for being workhorses who stick to the fundamentals, but they’re hypocrites who use gamesmanship and trickery to get ahead.    So people hear Cornette blowing a gasket about Joey Janela and they just assume he’s being some sort of cartoonish supervillain character to sell his merch, because the alternative is too absurd to contemplate.    It’d be like MJF assuring people that he really does bloody people up with his diamond ring in real life, just like he does on TV.   

Anyway, I’ll stick with Moxley, but if MJF wins, I’ll be more intrigued than disappointed...

Persona 5 Scramble Japanese Demo Nintendo Switch Review

Is it a Last Surprise or is it “too fast for eyes?”

The Persona series has come a long way in terms of its success. What was once a spinoff of a series that is currently three decades strong is now a franchise all on its own. The latest game in the series, Persona 5, proved to be a financial and critical success despite the infamous “Winter 2012” meme. Five years later and the Persona 5 van still has a lot left in the tank.

With an anime series, a manga spinoff, countless audio dramas, a handheld RPG spinoff, and a dancing game spinoff, Joker has been around the world and back. At the time of writing, the updated re-release, Persona 5 Royale, hit Japanese store shelves in December with a Western release at the end of March 2020. 

There is one more game in the Persona 5 universe that has yet to be mentioned. Scramble.

When this game was first announced, it was met with a favorable, yet confused, response. Here was a Persona 5 title announced for the Switch; A game that was a Playstation exclusive. While many initially thought it was the highly requested Switch port, the Omega Force logo revealed otherwise. It was instead a Musou game. Or, a Warriors game for the Western audience. Several months later, a PS4 version was also announced, further nullifying the dreams of a Switch-port of Persona 5 for now.

Omega Force are the brains behind the long running Dynasty Warriors series. Can you believe that this series started back in ‘96? As a fighting game nonetheless? The climate was different in the mid-90s that’s for sure.

After countless, and I mean this quite literally, countless entries in the Warriors series, several spinoffs were released. This included Samurai Warriors, which featured Japanese historical figures substituting the Three Kingdoms characters, and Warriors Orochi, which combined both because why not?

It was due to the wild collision course between Oda Nobunaga and Lu Bu clashing swords that other possibilities began to bore fruit. Someone in the Bandai Namco office thought “What if we had Gundams engage in intergalactic battles vs hundreds of Zaku units?” Omega Force obliged.

Several years later, someone else, probably the same person as before, in the Bandai Namco office thought “What if we had Luffy fend off hundreds of pirates?” Omega Force went to work.

Long time partners, Koei Tecmo, pitched the idea of a Hokutou no Ken Musou game and OF was on the scene.

After a while, it did not matter what the source material was. Berserk? Fire Emblem? The Legend of Zelda? It didn’t matter. So long as Omega Force had a check to look forward to, nothing was impossible for them.

So to see the Omega Force brand assigned to the Persona series raised eyebrows, but those in the know nodded their head in approval. Fans such as myself were wondering how a game like Persona would incorporate their mechanics in a Musou game. With the Persona 5 Scramble public demo released on February 5th, our curiosities are finally sated. Or are they?

Turns out it’s not an English demo, but it’s a Japanese demo. Fortunately, it’s not awfully difficult to obtain nor play through the demo, but for the sake of convenience, I’m covering the Switch port. The main reason was that I already had a Japanese Nintendo account. The second reason was my curiosity. I wanted to know how the game played on a console with lesser specs. 

I played the demo on the Switch Lite, so I exclusively played on handheld mode. That said, the game played really well. If there were any slowdowns, it wasn’t noticeable for me. Controls were responsive and everything I wanted Joker to do, I was able to do with no hindrance.

When you first boot the demo, you’re introduced to a sizzler of sorts as you fight several shadows in Shibuya until the game cuts away to several cutscenes.

Now, this is where we reach our main caveat. These are first world problems, but I cannot tell you much about the story. Not because of spoilers although there are certainly here, but because the voices and subtitles are in Japanese. I could deduce what’s going on based on the original story however so, I’ll try my best.

Judging the time of the game, July, the game takes place quite some time after the ending of Persona 5. Several key giveaways are the props within Cafe Leblanc, such as Yusuke’s painting. All of your comrades are present and accounted for, with new attire and the like.

Immediately something is amiss as another app is downloaded on the phone. It is here where you can name your character. Remember when I said this was a Japanese game? Japanese characters and alphanumeric characters only! With very limited space as well!

I went with this. It’s a demo. Don’t judge me.

So, you’re sent to investigate any abnormalities in Shibuya with your best bud Ryujii when an idol appears to have a concert. Almost immediately you’re placed in the Metaverse. A few seconds later you’re fighting hordes of shadows with your buds in Shibuya. 

It is here that several mechanics are introduced, so, I’ll list the controls that are the most important.

X - Light Attack

Y in the middle of a combo - Heavy attack

Y by itself - Projectile

Just like in most Musou games, any combination of light attacks can be finished with a Heavy Attack to provide various results. If you use the Heavy attack by itself, Joker will use his gun.

ZR - Dodge

While walking and holding ZR - Run

R + Button = Spells

These are self explanatory. You can dodge and weave in between enemy attacks. Just like in Persona, he has access to skills. Each skill has a different effect within a different radius. The Eiha spell will hit enemies in a circle while Cleave will hit those in a cone.

X+A - Showtime 

This is this game’s version of the Musou attack. In Warriors games, these are the cinematic attacks that deal massive damage to those around the user. Not only does it look badass, but you’re also invulnerable while using it. This can be used as a way to form wiggle room when overrun.

Halfway through the first palace, as you are introduced to the palace owner and are disposed of, you come across a giant cube. As Joker interacts with the cube, a girl emerges from the cube. The girl tags along with you until it is revealed that this girl is nowhere near defenseless. She can hold her own in combat quite well. The cube she emerged from seems to be her Persona of sorts.

A - Grants you access to the interactable environment around Joker

B - Jump, press again to double jump Environmental attacks let you interact with your surroundings, like the streetlamps in Shibuya. These allow you to stay perched, away from harm as you swoop down on your enemies like a hawk to his prey. Hitting this successfully chains into another wide-ranging attack  for even more damage.

Utilizing the environment to your advantage can also provide a tactical advantage. There’s a moment in the demo where there are three powerful shadows. There’s an alternate path you could go to and sneak behind them. You could choose to fight the shadows head-on, but if you take the beaten path you’ll see a flimsy scaffold. If you use the environment attack on the scaffold, not only will the platform break, but you’ll  also surprise the enemy.

Weaknesses, critical attacks, and technical bonuses from Persona 5 are also existent here. If you hit an enemy’s weakness, you’ll be able to hit them while they are staggered to torment their surrounding foes. Tech bonuses, like in Persona 5, activate when a combination of elemental skills are used in succession. I wasn’t able to activate the tech bonus, but a tutorial prompt explaining the bonus did appear.

In Persona 5, you can negotiate with shadows to coerce them into joining your party as a persona. This game works a little differently. Sometimes if you defeat a shadow, they have a chance to join you as one of your Personas. This is good to cover your strengths and weaknesses.

As in Persona 5, certain enemies are resistant, weak, or invulnerable to specific attacks. The more personae you have, the better equipped you’ll become.

Eventually you’ll face a powerful shadow. This serves as this demo’s boss. These boss fights work a bit different from the rest of the fights thus far. The more you hit a shadow’s weak spot, the more you’re able to attack as they are staggered. Exploit their weakness enough and you’ll be able to do an All Out Attack, much like in the original game.

It is here that the demo ends. If you skip through the cutscenes you can easily beat the demo in about an hour. First impressions, I’m honestly surprised how integral the story is to the game. I’m surprised that I’m surprised, considering the source material is a story intensive game.

I wasn’t able to understand the dialogue, but it was great to travel through Yongen-Jaya and Shibuya once again. It was also nice to see that the game’s story seems to be canon to the main story. The combination of Persona’s mechanics with the twitch-reaction of Musou is like chocolate and peanut butter.

By the way in case you were wondering. The menu animations make a return and they look just as beautiful now as they did in Persona 5.

With the game’s release right around the corner in Japan, Western fans are still starving for so much as a crumb of information relating to a release date. Heck, even a confirmation that the game is coming out to the States at all! While it may be up in the air when fans will be able to look forward to news, there’s still a demo that we can enjoy.

What is your opinion on alpha/beta/omega dynamics?

The way it’s been portrayed in most media is a little tried and annoying. Like a pack is lead by the Alpha Male™️ and he has anger and control issues and his word is final. no ifs, ands, or buts unless you wanna fight to the death. Also every male werewolf is terrible to women.

But I’m fine the bare concept of alpha/beta/omega dynamics. And who doesn’t like to see a sexy badass werewolf take on a leadership role and be powerful? I think if it’s done right, with proper respect and love among pack members (like it should be) that kind of thing can be really enjoyable to read or watch.

In my story, the main characters grew up seeing that kind of toxic alpha/beta/omega behavior and it’s seen as a very old fashioned way of thinking. But of course, Jayde has the makings of an Alpha. She doesn’t like to be called one, but when her pack needs leadership or protection, she steps up to that role without hesitation. And she might sometimes think that her ideas are the best for the pack, but will always consult the people she loves before making any decisions. Jayde definitely doesn’t wanna be a dictator. And I think that’s we’re a lot of media content gets it wrong. An alpha shouldn’t be a dictator, they should be a leader.
