tbf, this movie glosses over so many details that he might as well be anlaf’s son and the writers just forgot to elaborate on that lol i just assumed they weren’t related bc they do stress on the father-daughter thing a lot more with astrid and she does call him father

but headcanoning him as anlaf’s son does add more gravitas to the story

no no i think you're right, i just watched the movie and was like

#my constant struggle with tlk is that they keep bringing in Just Some Guys #and i keep being like oh are we going to get a rich and layered backstory?#and tlk is like 🤗#'no <3'#me psyching myself out two years in a row for finan's backstory it's fine #like i think it would be deeply fascinating if ingilmundr was the less preferred child #the one who was indeed raised by saxons #making him unwanted by anlaf #now he's been sent to seduce aethelstan #playing the sort of traditionally feminine role #while astrid the girl is anlaf's preferred heir #playing the traditionally masculine role #but no #that is too complex for tlk #once again it is asking too much to scratch beyond the surface level #and i have seen complicated sibling dynamics where there are none #seven kings must die #the last kingdom
