𝐓𝐄𝐍 NINE 𝐐’𝐒:
1. When are you usually online?
In the afternoon and late into the night at the moment due to work schedules. Literally this time last year I was getting off of work around the time I'm getting out of bed now. But I'm always lurking, watching videos or streams while playing a game or working.
2. What verses are you involved in?
None? I’m not in any fandoms and I’ve never been compelled to create a verse for Hibi to fit into a specific media. I feel comfortable with the current selection I have now to morph those if need be to fit other’s. I only had the main verse in the past so it’s nice mixing it up a little, though.
3. What is your biggest RP pet peeve?
I guess someone consistently being on and active on the timeline but only writing with a one or two people. It just feels rude when it continues for months to the point of it being a theme. Like being invited to watch my friends play while I sit and pretend to tie my shoes. I don’t even care if you reply to a thread 8 months late if you at least vaguely acknowledge prompts or memes and aesthetics that I’ve dm’d you. By then it’s like, ok have fun, I’m gonna go find people that wanna pass the ball to me every now and then too.
Also muns that don’t understand that your muse doesn’t have to be and yes, but you do. Like I get it, Hibiya hates a lot of people. He’s a selfish, fake little dude. That’s why you work together to create situations that force muses interact.
4. Are you drawn to specific types of muses?
In terms of writing myself, none specific. Probably blissfully ignorant characters. Hibi’s the only muse I write and other people I come up with I just save for DND. In terms of writing with, I adore OCs because canon muses make me feel like I’m on thin ice half the time. Honestly this might just be a concern from back in the day? But I need to be told where you muse comes from and the rules of that universe, not just a little bio of likes and dislikes. You can be a naruto muse all day, but I don’t know more than there’s a 1 through 9 tails thing and that one really good opening song. So I get very worried it’ll be assumed I know who it is just because most people know your muse’s canon because it’s from popular enough media, cause I promise I don’t.
5. Are there reoccurring themes in your writing that people might not notice?
I don’t think? If anything, I feel like my writing partners point out themes that I don’t even notice. History repeats itself, coming of age to an extent, identity. I’ve said it recently but I’d love to explore more themes through Hibiya’s work like corruption through power and good verses evil type of deal, but I have to figure out the right situation/people for that cause I don’t know.
6. What are your favourite RP trends?
I think one thing that feels really different and cool now, compared to when I stopped writing cause school, I feel like everyone just has so much love and investment in one another’s OCs. I see a lot of posts that was like “back in my day, reblog karma, rarara,” but like, I don’t remember partners sending memes and shit unless it was for jokes, let alone unprompted headcanon asks and multi paragraph prompts. Maybe it’s just the small part of this community I’ve shoved myself in, but everyone just seems to really care about the world of another’s muse, whether it effects theirs or not. And I think that’s the sweetest thing.
Oh I also love mobile friendly about and rule pages. That's really sexy and cool, especially when it’s not a google doc.
8. How do you feel about duplicates?
Honestly, I would kill to see another fleshed out Hibiya. In the past, there were a handful for sure but I can honestly only think of one that stayed around for more than a few months. The kiss of death I think is only/mainly interacting within the fandom, which I feel is why there are no duplicates. Back in the day there were enough of us, but once the shipping was kinda said and done, they left. I feel like that’s the main reason why I continue to be inspired by Hibi compared to other people that write/wrote him, because I am rarely writing with fandom-preestablished relationships.
9. How long have you been involved in roleplaying?
2013? I wrote Izaya privately for like a year and then brought Hibiya to tumblr.
10. Is there a muse or verse you could write in, but haven’t?
I’m so boring, I’m not really into any fandoms, even Durarara’s honestly, so I can’t think of the last time I felt drawn to throw myself into a character or setting that wasn’t Hibi’s. If anything, I’d love to better fully realize the people in their lives. Their parents, kids, some maids, people in their nobility, just make their world feel more alive, but also to feel more comfortable writing those people as NPCs. Which I’ve been giving a lot of thought to lately and hope to eventually create a small bio for everyone. For no one else but myself really.
If there was any other muse I could write, I can see myself writing an historical figure. Couldn’t tell you who cause I dunno, but like, centuries old, the type of person where most of what we know is hearsay.

Reports and Highlights: Yuukei Roadshow in Tokyo
Tumblr media
Compilation of info found on Twitter, Togetter and Privatter. Many thanks to ayara-resara for indicating them all.
<< Previous Show || Index >>
Before reading any further, I highly recommend those who haven’t seen the first show’s reports to read them, since one is related to the other. I advice those who have already read the previous reports to take a look at the bottom of the post again too, because I’ve managed to find and translate more info on it.
@kon_noooo
Q.: Is Kano left-handed? A.: Ah~, I kinda feel like I’ve heard something about this from Sidu-san~! But there’s also the possibility that we’re being deceived... There’s a chance that he’s actually a vigorously right-handed right-hand shot! He seems to think of himself as cute. Like, “It’s so cute that I’m left-handed~”. Please wait for an official announcement on that...
I asked about this when I was getting his autograph... I’d wanted to confirm it no matter what...
(T/N: The “right-hand shot” part is a gatcha reference. Scoring a big hit from the right side is called “right-hand shooting”.)
@enehai_hiyori1
LISTEN UP!!!!!!!!! JIN SAID THAT ASAHINA-SAN IS A CUTE GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, y’see, I asked about what she likes.
I’m getting lots of reactions here so lemme tell you about when I got his autograph...
Q.: Does Asahina-san have anything that she likes other than cats? A.: She’s a cute girl who likes normal stuff. (The nuaces are difficult here so I can’t convey the whole idea, sorry.)
This is something that had been decided since the very beginning: she likes pancakes.
Jin-san: She probably wouldn’t make them herself, though. Me: She’d be like, “You do it”? Jin-san: She’d be like, “You do it”.
Jin-san: I wonder what state her bedroom is in... Me: Indeed...
Me: I tried to think of Asahina-san’s way of thinking (preferences), but I couldn’t come up with anything at all... Jin-san: Eh? She’s a girl who surprisingly likes normal stuff, isn’t she? Staff member: She is. I don’t remember the details so well but how much does that staff member know...?? They said something about “24 hours a day 365 days a year”. They did say that.
@takephotos12
Jin-san said, “Actually, just how much of what Kisaragi Shintarou says to his comrades is the truth?” and that’s too much for me; I’m in pain. I remember him saying before and after this that he was “going to kill a Kisaragi Shintarou cluster”, but my memory is kinda flying off the nest, so I hope I wrote this in my memo.
@nagihararion
Me: I like Haruka-senpai, so I dressed up like him today... Jin-san: Uwah~! Amazing! That blue plaid is really Haruka-like! Speaking of Haruka, I wanna make a spin-off with him as protagonist or something... Me: !?!?!?!! My memory is fuzzy from the point he said “spin-off onward so I don’t remember it very well, but I feel that he talked about how he “wants to write it” and said that he’d “probably publish it”... I recall him telling me to “look forward to it”... probably...
By the way, I was dressed mostly like this back then:
Tumblr media
@Tanapi_May
Me: When will Takane-chan’s birthday be revealed? Jin: Hu~m, I have no plans for it right now... but it’s a very important day. Some big incident or something of the sort will happen. Ah, but it might be in the future edition... Me: “Future edition”!? Jin: Yep, Takane-chan maybe being a Mama... Me: “Mama”!? I asked about this when I got his autograph.
@knkd3131
I only took a memo of the colors of the limelights during each song and my impressions on them, in case anyone wants to use it as reference... 🙇‍♀️
1. Imaginary Reload Lights: blue, green. The background guitar was cool. 2. Shissou Word Lights: purple, blue, green. It stopped at the second “watashi wa” (lol). 3. Additional Memory Lights: red. The interlude was long (nice). The last hook was emo. 4. Lost Day Hour Lights: white and peach with a mirror ball. Lights during the last hook: orange, peach, yellow, white and purple flashed on and off. Jin kept raising his right leg and his smile was cute. 5. Yume no Hana I don’t remember this one. It was a request from the last person to ask a question in the Q&A corner. “A song from THE BACK HORN that Jin-san likes.” 6. Remind Blue Lights: purple and blue with a mirror ball. 7. Solitude From the MV. Jin’s first independent album will be released. He wants the album to be like a picture book of short stories that will make us think he wants to create a new self separated from Kagerou. 8. Mermaid Lights: blue, green. A song from the album. It depicts a honeymoon. A song about boarding a plane alone. Jin: It’s a sad song, isn’t it? 9. FREAKS Lights: white, red. Lights during the last hook: peach, white, green, orange and red flashed on and off. Once upon a time, there was a clumsy monster. The song is about him, who entretains the crowd in a circus group today as well. Jin-san was lifting his right leg in this one. It was the one I liked the most, super emo. Parts of the song that I was able to catch: “I cried out of emptiness” (from the hook) “They laughed at me, who couldn’t become anything” (from the first part)
@shiunteen
I was overwhelmed by “FREAKS” and how its lyrics tear your body apart when you catch on Jin’s full-throttle melody and some other bits; the tears poured out of my eyes with pitter-pattering. Even though I don’t know anything about Jin, it left me in tatters, like, “Aah, he has it so hard; he’s suffered so much; must’ve been so painful”, and I saw in it the earnestness of an artist’s story depiction. I wanna listen to it again soon.

Jin’s first solo album will be released! 🎵 Mermaid 🎵 FREAKS
The editor of Mekakucity Talkers, Kuroda-san, was the host this time too.
Jin-san entered the stage with a mask on. “‘Why is that?’ Is what you’re thinking, right?”
He’d fallen into a bad condition at the end of the year. Caught a persistent cold that wouldn’t get better at all, and just when he thought he had finally cured himself from it, it turned into influenza. It got better a week prior to the concert, and when he thought he’d be able to do the live just fine, his molar swelled up two days before. Since his tooth was swollen, he got an edema in his face, and so he put on a mask.
There were cavities doing bad things to the root of his molar. He was told that he had no choice but have the tooth pulled out, but he explained that he had a live concert to do, so he received symptomatic treatment. He got three injections on the spot, in a place that had him going, “You’re gonna inject it there!?” and went home. Next morning (the morning of the day before the concert), he had an incision in addition to the injections, so he was in a lot of pain.
“Loxonin is amazing; it’s the only thing I can rely on.”
“Master, I’ll have the same as always,” he said as if to make his order → Jin-san and Kuroda-san’s drinks were soon delivered to the stage. One of the songs was the theme of the drinks...
🎵 Imaginary Reload
(On the tooth) “Thanks to the Loxonin, I’m not feeling pain, but it’s hard to move my mouth. Like, ‘it won’t go any farther than this point’.”
(Regarding Kuroda-san’s question of, “How’s the Imaginary Reload drink?”) “It’s carbonated, and I can’t be having carbonated drinks. Also, I had an incision yesterday, so all the more...”
Q&A Corner ①
Q.: Where do Hiyori and Hibiya live? A.: This would become a matter of “where is the setting of KagePro?”. There are models for it. I was indecisive as to whether I should reveal the actual place or not. In the series, it gets messed up (by terrorists and the like), so we’d decided not to announce it for the time being. As for the model of where the two live, it’s based on a village from somewhere in Hiroo Town, in the Tokachi District of Hokkaidou (where Jin-san himself used to live in the past). If you go there, you’ll figure that it’s a place where perverts are born (because it’s too full of nothing).
Q.: What’s Tsukihiko’s eye color? A.: Ah, I’m also curious about that (lol). The eye colors are important, so they’re all decided, but I told Sidu-san that “Tsukihiko is a normal human being”. Sidu-san also thinks lots of things out, like, “Won’t it be passed down to his daughter and granddaughter?”. In the Kisaragi family, too, there’s the setting that the father has orange hair and Shintarou takes after him, and the mother has black hair and Momo takes after her.
The comics would be over soon. They were going to end, but will continue.
This time, they’re following the track order of the album...
🎵 Shissou Word Right before the second hook, Jin-san ate the lyrics by the middle. He started singing again as if nothing had happened.
Q&A Corner ②
Q.: What kind of “story that -- the eyes” are Daze, Days and RED? A.: Daze and Days were made to be the theme songs of the anime from the very beginning, so I haven’t decided on that. If I were to give a subtitle to RED, it would be “the story that changes one’s eye color”. It’s a song about how two friends, one who likes to play around and one who is the studious type (memory is faint here), become self-conscious of the fact that the other has grown up. That “their eyes have been dyed into a color that they had never seen before”.
Q.: Please tell us about what you hesitated to say regarding Shintarou in the previous Q&A... A.: Ah, it’s the topic that will come up in this month’s Gene. Shintarou is the protagonist, but I didn’t get to delve into him, and there are more depictions of other people’s viewpoints than of his. Shintarou will be in the continuation of the series and will be a school teacher. Since marriages between characters and things like that are esteemed, I’ll write the continuation story, but this will be in a parallel what-if world. The next protagonist and abilities have been decided too. There are also new characters, characters that remained the way they are and characters that have grown up. It might not happen just in Japan. I wanna hurry and write.
Q.: How did you come up with Benisake-chan? (T/N: For those who don’t remember, that’s the name of the salmon mascot that Momo likes.) A.: I’ve always liked trout salmon ever since my days in Hokkaidou. I couldn’t eat it after coming to the Kantou Region because it’s expensive here, so I had it delivered from my family’s home and when I ate it for the first in a long while, I noticed that it makes you stinky even if you only touch it a little bit, so I was like, “This is it!!” and made her up. Sanrio’s Kirimi-chan was invented immediately after that, and it made me go, “Hey, hey...”. She was cuter and had me like, “This is how a mascot character is supposed to be”, ww.
Q.: What do you create first, tune, lyrics or melody? A.: I started using VOCALOIDs after the band I was in broke up, and when I thought of “doing what I wanted to do”, I considered creating a story through albums and started KagePro. I’d decided from the beginning that the story would include phrases that go “a story that ○○ the eyes”. KagePro was the first thing I made in which I created songs from world-building. Sometimes, songs come out of phrases like “Oh, my dirty!”. And the phrases come from requested themes.
🎵 Additional Memory
(10-minute break)
The song that Jin-san was happy to write out of the ones from this album... 🎵 Lost Day Hour
Lottery (prizes below)
A picture with Jin
A Jin can badge set
A special (signed) ticket holder and two bookmarks of the study books series
Mekakucity Talkers (signed)
A poster of MekaRelo (signed)
A secret present (which would be mailed at a later date, since Jin-san couldn’t look for it in his house due to his poor health condition)
The right to request a song
The request → a song from THE BACK HORN that Jin-san likes.
🎵 Yume no Hana (THE BACK HORN)
“This is the last one...” he said, and a video played after he was done, but then he was like, “I’ll come up and play one more song w” (swinging his body forward).
🎵 Remind Blue
Jin-san leaves the stage. The PV of Solidute plays. At the end of the PV, the confirmation that Jin-san’s first solo album will hit the shelves is announced.
Jin-san reappears on stage. “I’ll release a full album,” he says. He composed Solitude about four years ago and sang it at CDJ before.
“They’re songs I made because I wanted. I’m looking forward to this the most.”
🎵 Mermaid (a song about someone boarding a plane all alone on their honeymoon)
When he only played the songs he was asked to play, it was like, “Lie low.”
🎵 FREAKS
“I’ll do other concerts so please come again!” With this one sentence, it was over.
@BlueD01
On the topic of Jin-san’s tooth: “My mother always told me to brush my teeth so I always brushed it... How did it turn out like this...? It’s like it comes from the side of the tooth...” *proceeds to explain the proggression of the cavities*
Q.: Jin-san, when you’re create a song, do you give them to a character after making the song? Or do you come up with a character and make a song for them? A.: I formed a band in high school in the past and we used to be active, but though I’d wanted to continue on the band, the others wound up turning into “adults”. From there, I was recommended to use VOCALOIDs, but I could only make incomplete songs, like, the type of song that you play a little bit and just two people in the audience go, “wa~h” at it. Back then, the common usage of “eyes” caught my attention, like, “people become idols when they draw in the eyes of others”. So I started making KagePro. Also, I’d wanted to make idol-like songs. And that is connected to the following topic. I wanted to write a story of growth. Just like Hoshi wo Tsunagete from Kemono Friends, you can make stuff that goes, “this character is like that~”. It varies with each song.
So, Jin-san wanted to create idol-like songs. Also, Kisaragi Attention (he didn’t state this but most it likely) is a song with the theme “it doesn’t matter if one’s own nature (their sense?) doesn’t match them, as long as a third party accepts it”, and it seems it turned into an idol song from this.
Jin-san: *sees the lottery poster* I want that poster... The host: Do you not have it? Jin-san: I don’t. I might’ve given it to my mother.
(After the lottery) Jin-san: I’d wanted to bring it over from my house, but lots of things happened... I’ll mail the big deal on a later date. After the concert ends, please... talk to the staff member over there. We won’t do anything bad with your personal information. *laughs*
@bonus_time34
During the introduction of the colaboration drinks: “We did this in Oosaka last time, and we prepared the same stuff for Tokyo.” He called the drink a “soup”. “This soup has a nice color, huh~. Master, I’ll have the usual (lol).” A red “soup” came straight from the back. “It’s almost as if it was already prepared, lol.” The host joked as it was brought to him, “You’re getting VIP treatment, huh (lol).”
First half of the question and answers corner. “Think of a question with my songs as the BGM (lol).”
“Jin-san is in a period where he uses ‘I really like you’ in his songs a lot (lol)!”
“Now comes the song by your beloved uncle for your other beloved uncle: Additional Memory.”
Jin-san waving his hand as he retreated into the waiting room looked so happy and cute that everyone waved back. I wound up lost as to whether I should applaud or wave.
“How was the album?” “It was the be~st!” some people raised their voices. “I listen to it a lot too. But I don’t cry. I did cry when taking the injections, though (lol).”
“I’m glad I was able to compose this one: Lost Day Hour.” The prolongation of his voice during the hook was wonderful. The high-pitch parts were beautiful. “This song is about the character called Kokonose Haruka.” (My memory of this talk is faint.)
To explain the rules of the lottery: anyone who made an additional order would get a lottery ticket. “(The special present) Could be a signed truck tire (lol) or a signed light-motor vehicle with an expired license (lol). Something that would be a pain in the ass (lol, lol).”
Here, he talked about brushing his molars. “‘How do you brush your molars?’ The dentist’s face looked like a lightning had fallen in front of him.”
The request of the lottery winner was for Jin’s favorite song by THE BACK HORN. “I’m indecisive about this one (lol)! Seriously?! Okay, then!” He played Yume no Hana. He was excited and seemed to be having fun. To the person who made the request, thank you... “I didn’t think I’d get to play THE BACK HORN. It was the best.”
Then, we had the last song... or so he said. “Though I say this is the last one, we will play a video, and I’ll come back after the applause, so I might play something once more (lol),” he stated. “Let’s see each other again somewhere else. This has been Jin. Thank you. Here’s Remind Blue.” The arrange of the second part was amazing. The hook of that part... was great...
The animation of Solitude was cool but the lyrics were good too... Below are a sketch I made of the girl from the video while watching it, as well as a drawing I made of her relying on my memory.
Tumblr media
“I played this at COUNTDOWN JAPAN. Is there anyone who listened to it?” About ten people raised their hands. “So there is~. I had thought something along the lines of, ‘let’s do this (solo album)’ after releasing the second album. I was asked things like, ‘Won’t you make that into a CD?’ by the people who listened to Solitude. I’m the one looking forward to it (the release of the solo album) the most.”
He introduced a new song from that album, Mermaid. “Weren’t your titles always supposed to be written in kanji and katakana!? What happened (lol)!?” “Nothing happened (lol).”
“Until I started using VOCALOIDs, my songs felt like holding a concert for only two people while going, ‘It’s destruction~! I’ll tear up your eardrums~!’ (lol)” “It’s been about eight years since last time I made something just because I wanted to compose and listen to it. I wanna make stuff that I feel like conveying.” It seems he composed it based on that. Unlike KagePro, this album will be like a “collection of short stories”.
Mermaid was a song about a honeymoon. The high-pitched hook was melancholic. Jin-san also said this, but it was like a fairy tale.
When he was making songs on request or KagePro songs: “It was like, ‘Even if you have a scenario in your head, lie low’.” He managed to put the things that crossed his mind into songs. He did it...
(A little before another song.) “Can I do it? It’s okay, isn’t it (lol)?” “I’m happy to release (the song) in this occasion (talk live concert).”
The thrilling melody of FREAKS is damn great. It’s a song that gives you courage.
This one was really the last song, so Jin concluded it with his farewells. “I’m thinking of playing many other new songs.” So he’ll do concerts again...? Ambiguous...
After this, there was an announcement, and an autograph session of sold goods and sets.
From the time I got Jin-san’s autograph: when I said, “I like Kisaragi Momo-chan! Thank you very much for always!” he replied, “She sure is popular, huh~”, so I think there were probably about two more people before me who showed the appeal of a Momo fan.
It was a really fun talk-and-play show and I wasn’t able to cool down my excitement. I wanna go again...
@mine1_Hedgehog
Yuukei Roadshow in Tokyo Memo
(About his tooth.) His face was swollen, so he came wearing a mask, but even after his cavities healed a little, instead of going “wah~”, he ended up feeling dejected. “It was like, ‘Did I put on weight?’”
This time, the host ordered a drink that was named after one of the album’s songs! “That’s right; if you pay for it, you get a drink.” He thought it had a good color and was happy to receive it. “Then, Jin-san, you order yours too,” he was prompted. “Master, give me the usual soup.” → “Oka~y.” And so, a red drink came to him as if it had been waiting for a cue. It was an Imaginary Reload one.
The first track was Imaginary Reload. The lights were green. I got emo when listening to that yapping electrict guitar song being played with an acoustic guitar... He’s good with the guitar...
Once it was over, the host was like, “It was a cool song with a dashing sense to it, huh?” and Jin-san interjected, “That’s right.”
When he was asked why he wasn’t having his drink, he said, “I can’t drink anything carbonated right now (because of his molar).” “Don’t cry~” Why did he choose that, then? “Carbonated drinks seriously sting. They make me feel awake.” “It’s literally an ‘imaginary reload’.” “It smelled of blood.” Seriously, why did he choose that?
Here we had the first questions and answers corner. *Looks at the letters displayed on-screen* “This is like a detective drama!” “You can ask about anything, even if it’s not KagePro-related! It can be about secrets regarding Jin’s birth and things like that too!” [roar of laughter] “It’ll finally be revealed...!”
Shintarou’s mother is set to be originally from Hokkaidou. Speaking of which, Momo-chan had mentioned this.
HibiHiyo’s village is based off the village where Jin-san used to live in the past. It’s linked to a town, but the place is actually a weird gathering of villages that you could hardly call a town. There’s seriously nothing there at all. “You’d understand if you saw it, but it’s a place where perverts are born. You have nothing to do there except be delusional.”
(On the topic of Tsukihiko’s eye color.) Sidu-san is in a zone unknown to Jin-san regarding this. In volume 4, his eyes “don’t open because he’s laughing”, but in the manga, he indeed has them closed at all times, www. Jin-san said he had normal eye color, but Sidu-san’s “normal eyes” are wicked, so we can’t know for sure.
There was a lottery after this. The rule was that people would win based solely on the amount of food they got. “You don’t have to spend too much money. That’s not the kind of game it is.”
*drinking his beverage* “Is there anyone here who was also in Oosaka? [lots of hands go up] “I love you...” [roaring laughter]
Second track was Shissou Word. He trailed off at the first verse of the second half like, “wata(shi wa)...” and then resumed after three seconds as if nothing had happened. I forgot why, but he said “I love you~” again afterward.
I think Shintarou is a smart, lovable and good person, but Jin-san sees him as mysterious. He doesn’t know very well how much of what Shintarou says is the truth.
Jin-san was shocked that Vegeta and Bulma from DB got married. “That yankee and Bulma...” It seems he thought he was gonna die.
Everyone thinks that so and so are in a romantic relationship and will definitely get married! Jin just hasn’t written that yet! Even though this kind of thing goes on (in fandom), he can’t bear to see these sprouts of hope get plucked. That’s why the future story that he’ll write next will be like a parallel/what-if thing, and won’t become the future of the normal route. There’s no definite answer to the things Jin writes.
The next protagonist is already decided. The new characters too. It might also happen in places other than Japan. For Mekakushi-dan, there’ll be those who will appear just like they were before and those who will appear grown-up. I think it’ll be a good story.
@natunyudo
Jin-san: How was the live? Me: It was great! I also went to the one in Oosaka, but it was so good that I also came to this one in Tokyo... Jin-san: Thank you very much. How were the new songs? Me: They were good! Jin-san: Which one did you like most? Me: Ah... Mermaid! I was touched...! Jin-san: I’ll do my best in the other new songs! I’ll also make even better albums than this one (MekaRelo)! Me: I’m looking forward to them! I’ll buy them for sure! Ah, also, this... *hands over a letter* Jin-san: Wah~, thank you so much! *stares at the letter fixately* There’s a musical note written here~🎵 *sees my name written at the back* Thank you very much, [my name]-san. Me: ......!!? (He called my name...!!???) Jin-san: I’ll also do my best to fix my cavities! Me: Ah... please do your best! I’ll be cheering for you!
@nozunozu0815
Me: Thanks for having me win the lottery! Jin-san: Ah, it was you?! We also met in Oosaka, didn’t we?! This time, unlike back in Oosaka, we obsessed with the CD order for the songs so it was different, right? Did you have fun? Me: There was Imaginary Reload and it was really the best! Speaking of which, that person who’s been an Asahiner for seven years came today too, but there was no My Funny Weekend. 😇 Jin-san: Ah, that’s true. You noticed it. You see, I can’t open my mouth to sing My Funny Weekend. 😇 That one has really high notes~, honestly~. Me: Indeed. Since your mouth is swollen, it might be difficult. 😇 But getting to listen to new songs was also the best! (He finishes writing the autograph)... If it’s okay with you, can we shake hands? Jin-san: That’s fine! Thank you for coming today! I intend to do this again somewhere else, so please do come listen~! Me: Thank you very much too! I’ll definitely go! And I’ll definitely not wash these hands anymore! Jin-san: Please stop that, ww. Please wash them, ww. Seriously... you’ll get influenza, ww.
We had a conversation like that. 😇

Kagerou Project ~ Times / Dates References + Comparisons Kagerou Daze I (Novels Route) [ Hibiya Amamiya’s point of view ] (bolding mine for emphasis/reference notes!): The sun set, it was late.
Although it’s cool at evenings, the heat remaining from the day still twines in the air and my skin could feel the breath of the upcoming summer.
“What shall I do this summer? Last year I spent the whole time helping in the field, I guess this year will be the same again, huh…..”
I’ve been stuck in this tiny village for over ten years. My impression of summer was just hot weather and memories of working in the paddy field full of mud.
“…..Travelling….. That’s not possible at all. I’m lacking money. However, I’m sure……”
I’m sure that Asahina Hiyori will make a trip to somewhere and enjoy a perfect summer. I’m just guessing, but I’m pretty sure she will.
No matter the world or standpoint we are in, everything is different between me and her, so I guess the scenery she sees every day is something a normal boy couldn’t imagine at all.
I understand that, that’s why I have expectations, and that’s why I’m so in love with her.
Being showered by the sunset, I was having those thoughts while looking at the broad farmlands being dyed orange, looking at my tiny house that was a stone’s throw away from the village. Right at the end of the spacious open land, thin smoke was coming out from the tiny chimney.
When was the last time I went out of this village? I couldn’t remember, maybe because it was already that long ago.
And my short, 10+ [“over ten”] years of life will be a lackluster thing that I won’t be able to remember, too.
When will be the next time I get out of this village?
I started to imagine a future scene where Hiyori and I are in a monorail, thinking about our destination, laughing together.

“clearing eyes” isn’t the ability you think it is, &&. here’s why.
                      ( novel &&. manga spoilers below. )
while it is often believed that the ability saeru possesses is that of ‘clearing eyes’ -- the ability to make any other eye ability void -- this is not the case. in various routes, eye abilities are often used on him: while these are the both used by beings who hold power over him ( marry, who possesses the queen snake, &&. azami, his original master ), it is not just locking eyes he falls victim to. he falls victim to marry using drawing &&. concealing on him, as well as kano using deceiving on him in two different routes. while he seems keenly aware of these abilities &&. is extremely familiar with their uses ( ie., knowing how to escape locking eyes, knowing just what hibiya’s eye ability does, being aware of the many uses of awakening eyes, etc. ), he is not immune, &&. his ‘ability’ does not render him impenetrable to those abilities.
( realistically, the only case in which i can see this happening is by him using awakening eyes to reconstruct his body to do so. )
so then, saeru must be an eye ability. he’s one of the original 10 created by the medusa -- he can’t simply exist as some useless snake. what is he, then?
my best guess is that saeru’s ability correlates to the more direct translation of his name -- the wide-eyed snake. along with this, the word used for the ‘clear’ in his name is more akin to that of being clear-headed &&. alert. in various forms of the kagerou project media, we see that saeru often dabbles into a few things: of which being body possession &&. dreams. in his case, i don’t believe saeru’s bragging of “being special” in the manga is just him bragging -- rather, it’s a fact. he is special, because he’s unlike any of the other eye abilities.
here’s a break down of why, &&. what i think he can do based on reading between the lines &&. various discussions with kitsu:
putting someone to sleep: this one is more obvious. azami had never been able to sleep in her life -- this is noted in both the novel &&. manga routes, where she’s seen lying awake in bed with an asleep tsukihiko. the only time she seems to fall asleep is when saeru visits her in her dreams, so that they can “talk” -- &&. presumably, he does so frequently as he manipulates &&. puppeteers her into creating the heat haze. it is very sudden, but it seems to come in bouts of her suddenly falling asleep out of nowhere, just as she did at her desk. while i’m unsure exactly how he does it, he can -- &&. i have the theory that he was behind shion falling asleep the fateful day marry was attacked by humans as well. she notes it with surprise that she’d fallen asleep, &&. it’s strikingly similar to the way azami fell asleep at her desk -- the fact that just then, marry had been found by humans couldn’t have been a coincidence, knowing saeru’s orchestration of events.
body possession: this one is more obvious, but saeru is shown to body hop throughout the series into various hosts of his choosing. this is needed by a wish given to him to ‘devour’, but he is also special in this regard as well. when the snakes often serve as surrogate lives, saeru fully possesses his hosts to where their egos are tossed aside. hibiya’s conscience seems to be completely gone, where as kenjirou’s seems to be in phases of the day when he is ‘awake’ -- this going along with his status of being awake / asleep, is that he only controls kenjirou during the later hours. kenjirou often notes that he’s exhausted as a result of it, no matter how much sleep he gets -- &&. with konoha, his ego is also in pieces. konoha has the strength to choke him &&. remain some will, but saeru does tell him to ‘be at ease’ &&. to ‘sleep within this tragedy.’ it’s a common theme. canonically, to switch bodies, a host must also die if he’s to leave it.
intelligence: this is a no-brainer, but saeru refers to himself in the manga, to azami, as the “snake of intelligence.” while this could read again as boasting, rather, i think it’s another statement that holds truth. saeru is a snake who promises knowing things, solutions, granting wishes -- perpsectives no one else can offer. choices. he offers the apple in the garden of eve, &&. often, his hosts are given it for a price. the song dead &&. seek also notes kenjirou’s musings of how he feels so much intelligence running through his mind, it may burst -- i believe that by allowing saeru within the body, he shares some of his intellect -- so much that it’s overwhelming. evidently, he’s extremely smart, &&. will give a solution: but it’s not always the solution you want. kenjirou wants his wife back -- so what other solution is there that doesn’t involve the kids dying. so on, so forth.
in conclusion: saeru is a bastard.

Main ships from kagepro?
Hoo boy.  I’ll preface this by saying I don’t strongly ship anyone in Kagepro and personally prefer all their relationships to remain platonic within the story itself.  (Which isn’t to say I don’t wish them happiness with a potential romantic partner someday if they so choose, but it’s not my main objective of the series.)
That said, let’s get the first out of the way…
ShinAya: I have a lot of mixed feelings on this pair.  As much as the tragedy of it hurts me, as far as attraction goes I don’t understand why Ayano would fall for Shintaro in the first place (pun not intended).  He honestly treated her like shit before she died (although he’s definitely improved a lot since then as a result), so it doesn’t make sense to me why she’d harbor romantic feelings towards him initially. >.> As a friend she wants to help through his depression, certainly.  But wanting to pursue anything beyond that at the time is unhealthy IMO, and I really wish Jin hadn’t officially confirmed she had a crush on him/made it the entire focus of her new song…
KanoKido: I used to kinda ship this when I first got into Kagepro, but in the “angsty” sense where I liked the idea of Kano being jealous over Kido actually having a crush on Seto? *shrug* Nowadays I just see them all as siblings, although I don’t deny there’s a special spark there.  The banter bw them is cute (if a bit uncomfortable when it crosses into violent territory given Kano’s past).  I’m mostly indifferent to it now, although the amount of hate the pair gets kinda scares/puts me off significantly. =/ It just makes me sad to see so much fighting within the fandom itself over something like this, and wish people would just let others ship what they want in peace.
SetoMarry: This pair means a lot to me symbolically since Imagination Forest was one of the first songs that got me into the series, and it never fails to make me cry as a result.  As far as actual compatibility goes, it is a little bit squicky if you think about the deeper implications - and even sadder when you realize Marry will eventually outlive Seto. ;( As they are currently though, they are the pure definition of “adorable”.
HaruTaka/KonoEne (for the sake of simplicity I’m counting them as one even though I’m aware Konoha is technically a different entity): I didn’t think much of HaruTaka at first, seeing it as simply a typical “tsun-tsun” ship.  However, I do like that Takane has a legitimate reason for liking Haruka, in that he brightens her day by being able to smile despite his pain/approaching death, and she genuinely admires him for that.  It’s something I think was only really addressed in the manga, so I wish MCA would’ve also explored her inner emotions, showing how he inspires her to keep living life to the fullest (her supposed “suicide” in the manga notwithstanding…)
HibiHiyo: While I thought the pair would be cute at first based on Wannyanpuu’s PV, the more I learned about the characters’ actual personalities the less appealing it became to me.  Hibiya is honestly pretty gross in the novels, and Hiyori’s domineering demeanor can be especially off-putting (although I admittedly like her a lot more in the manga where her bossiness came in handy to drive off Momo’s fans).  Nowadays I prefer to ship her with Damian from Batman instead. *shot*
HibiMomo: I actually quite like this pair, since they’re a mirror of ShinAya, and thus also representative of the theme of “moving on” IMO.  (Assuming we ignore MCA’s ending, since I honestly think both Ayano and Hiyori should’ve stayed dead.)  They remind me a lot of Damian’s and Steph’s dynamic, and while the “bratty little brother” trope might not work in a serious relationship now, I do think Hibiya has room to grow and mature, which Momo can help him with.  (Whereas Shintaro has less of an excuse to act shitty due to his age IMO.)

Company/BADDY ~ Moon Troupe 2018
Tumblr media
Welp I'm in Japan again, for a bizarre trip considering none of my so-called faves are doing anything I'd normally clamor to see live... There are multiple reasons for that, but a big one is I let the idea of this show seduce me completely. I pegged it my most highly anticipated Grand Theater of the year pretty much as soon as the blurbs came out, anticipated it even more after I read and loved the novel, and pretty much lost my mind as soon as the first BADDY tweets surfaced back in February. So I braved Golden Week crowds in Hibiya to squeeze two viewings out of the last week of the run, and I'm quite pleased with my choices.
COMPANY
I summarized Company and its characters a bit before so I won't do it again; they stuck to the premise well enough.
I'd call Company cute and very pleasant; I thought everyone did a wonderful job and any qualms I have are with Ishida-sensei. My love of the book definitely enhanced my appreciation of the show because I went in already attached to the characters, but it also set me up for disappointment in a few places where Ishida fell flat. It's a bit of a long book though, and overall I think he cut exactly what needed to be cut to fit it into one act.
What I LOVE about the play as a whole is the modernness of it; Takarazuka almost never does shows set in present-day Japan, and its shows set in present-day elsewhere often come awkwardly tinged with an uncool dad vibe (LET'S TAKE A SELFIE FOR FACENOTE a la Vampire Succession, for example). Company felt totally natural and it was really refreshing. That said, something bugged me about the line delivery in pretty much the entire show; it was kind of stiff and hammy. I'm inclined to believe it was the direction, but I do wonder if it was just Patented Takarazuka Acting™ and it happened to stand in greater contrast against a modern play (and I also wonder if that's why they shy away from such stories).
Tamakichi was so beautiful it hurt to look at her. Her character Aoyagi's backstory was changed by absolute necessity; the book opens with his wife leaving him, but in the opening song of the show he tells us she's died from cancer two years back. Book Aoyagi is a nobody at work and pretty much a total loser in general at the beginning, and goes on a real journey of self love and improvement. I am a little sad we didn't get this angle because I think Tamakichi could have done an absolutely heartbreaking job portraying that particular transformation, but I also completely understand that including all that simply wasn't possible. Instead we have Cool Good-Looking Senpai Aoyagi, reliable leader from start to finish, whose journey is injecting some joy back into his life and beginning to heal from his wife's death. Tamakichi is so good at the wholesome everyday hero I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. My biggest takeaway from her performance, other than that she slays in a basic clean-cut suit, is that she has blossomed and is such a top star. NO SHADE to Tamakichi up till now; she's done nothing but impress me since assuming office. But while what stood out to me in Grand Hotel and All for One was the balance of the troupe and how perfectly they allowed their other wonderful players support her, SHE stood out to me in Company all on her own; her presence and confidence were incredible. They kept Chapi the exact right amount of time.
This could be Chapi's most typical top musumeyaku role since Tamakichi took over, but it's still unique in that she's the pursuer in their romance and I love that. Minami, while less confident in her ballet/work life than Stage Aoyagi seems to be in his work life, is slightly more confident in their personal interactions—always trying to joke, lighten the mood for him, drop hints—and it's a lovely dynamic. Her portrayal was probably the most faithful to the book. Chapi is bright and cheery and the smoothest actress, and every bit of real ballet we get to see her do is a blessing.
I had the greatest attachment to Haruka (MiyaRuri) and Yui (Umi-chan) going in. My absolute favorite aspect of the book was the slow burn surrounding everything Haruka: his relationship with Yui especially, but also with Aoyagi and the others. Of course I totally understand there is no room for slow burn in one act. Aside from that, Miya was exactly the Haruka I imagined and that was a joy to watch (her costume and countenance in the Dark Gay Swan Lake scene in particular is a VISION). Yui is another refreshing atypical musumeyaku character and Umi did a great job. It's a pretty good show for musumeyaku roles in general; Sara (Wakaba) and Noa (Touka Yurino) are also pretty big parts. I loved Kumichou in particular, she had some amazing one-liners.
My biggest disappointment was in Ishida's handling of Nayuta (Reiko). Reiko did just fine, but I felt that Ishida sucked all the life out of the character. Book Nayuta is a hot-headed asshole who underneath all the strutting and crude commentary cares a lot about his performing. A lot of that comes from him being a trainee idol and trying to prove that he has a place among his equally hot-headed senpai whereas Stage Nayuta is the star of the group, but it's NOT AT ALL HARD TO IMAGINE that a star idol might be kind of a hot-headed asshole. Stage Nayuta was just kind of pretty and there, and as a result the drama surrounding him joining Dark Gay Swan Lake in the Prince role felt flat to me. This is one change I really think could have been made in the given timeframe. (Trivia bit: in the understandably zuka-fied Final Drama where Nayuta injures Sara on stage with a lift gone wrong, Nayuta locks himself in the bathroom at intermission and won't stop crying from guilt. In the book, he feels his finger slip between her ribs during the lift, and dwelling on the sensation makes him so ill he can't stop throwing up).
Toshi is a VERY cool idol group leader; Ari is, as I predicted, herself; and Ruu, Shimon, and Mayupon are a pretty funny group (boss and salarymen), with Mayupon in particular also absolutely WEARING the normal suit look. Everyone else was pretty light on the stage time.
BADDY
BADDY is a triumph. If you still have the opportunity to watch it sans spoilers, I recommend it, I'm jealous, and I would love to know what that's like. However I can also say that I read almost everything about it before seeing it and I felt no less impact from its brilliance.
It's completely ridiculous, but the balance it strikes in its ridiculousness is absolutely sublime. Simplicity combined with absurdist randomness; both using and upending traditional Takarazuka elements JUST enough; it strikes the perfect note.
There's so much to unpack.
For one thing, it's SO META. We open in Takarazuka City on the Peaceful Planet that has seen no disturbance in 103 years, and down comes the Baddies' spaceship with a thunk. Following the thunk, Tamakichi declares "Looks like you've been waiting quite a while for this," RIGHT BEFORE going into the standard opening announcement—"written and directed by Ueda Kumiko," etc—and I am sure that's her sticking in her own jab about Takarazuka waiting 103 years before letting one of their female directors do a revue. Really, I wouldn't be surprised if the ENTIRE THING was a reference to this; I mean we're in TAKARAZUKA CITY where COOL BADDIES infiltrate a BORING LAME SOCIETY THAT HASN'T CHANGED IN 103 YEARS and then they BLOW EVERYTHING UP and EVERYONE GOES TO HEAVEN. That's bold, UeKumi.
There are smaller amusing references too... Reiko commenting that Amashi Juri's character looks new (she just switched to musumeyaku), Tamakichi kidnapping Reiko and giving her to Miya saying "here you're in charge of improving this person's general everything" which I'm pretty sure is Miya and Reiko's IRL relationship.
(Amashi Juri is so cute I can't stand it, help).
Another thing, it flows so beautifully for a revue with a plot (not a theme, a plot... the only other example of which I can recall at the moment is Nova Bossa Nova, which does not flow like this). Despite the scenes connecting perfectly into one cohesive story, they are still individual scenes that feel like standard revue scenes, with variety and costume changes and great music and really fun choreography.
Chapi is given the queenly treatment she deserves; she's as much the star of the revue as anyone else. The rockette with her in the center might be my personal highlight, and it's the perfect example of what I mean by both using and upending Takarazuka traditions. We've got typical rockette-style costumes, synchronized kicking, the works—but we've traded the high-pitched KYAA for YELLING ABOUT HOW ANGRY THEY ARE in unison with some really badass choreo. It's the perfect balance of respect and rebellion; it works because the rockette is such a standard part of our fan lexicon, and the small differences make us open our eyes wide. Crushed velvet kuroenbi. Ray Bans during the parade...
The duet dance also—passionate and angry and LITERALLY fiery, as Tama and Chapi dance and eventually descend through the floor with one long hard kiss surrounded the entire time by swirling flames. I mention that in case the flame effect (like the starlight during Maa's Chopin in HOT EYES) does not show up on the DVD, which would be tragic.
As beautifully and wholesomely as Tamakichi carried herself in Company she pulled out all the stops and slayed in BADDY. Dynamic (and dangerous) radiantly glowing top star. Miya is downright erotic.
Mayupon is just an alien, in the background, through costume changes, the entire time.
There was a fun amount of gender fluidity presented in sort of a nonchalant? way?? Like not the gratuitous otokoyaku-in-drag situation we usually get; paired with the free-flowing top 4 love quadrangle, it felt, dare I say, progressive.
I had an extra fun experience at my first viewing... TSUKI MATSURI! Tsukigumi has a tradition where one day per run (though I imagine not every single run) they all wear afro wigs in one scene and adlib it to hell and back. Since it was my first time and this did not seem at all out of place against the backdrop of BADDY I didn't even realize until after, but what lucky timing.
I can't wait for UeKumi's next show, and I went into QR and came out only with Tsukigumi bromides, I don’t know myself.

Event Report: FUDAN10KU LIVE 10th Anniversary Special ~Summer! Water! Live Band! A Music Festival Under the Blue Sky’s Light in Osaka~ 7.21.18
Having entered their 10th year of activities in September of 2017, danso (girls dressed as boys) idol group Fudanjuku have missed no chance celebrate the occasion, starting the year off with an outdoor concert at Hibiya’s Yaon concert hall followed by a three-part countrywide tour. This third leg of their concert series included something special-- a big outdoor concert supported by a live band and including… water?? With only the concert title to go off of, I and others had a lot of questions leading up to the actual performance, but with Fudanjuku as the headliners, we knew we were in for a good time.
On a broiling hot summer day a half hour north of Osaka, we trekked to the enormous Hattori Ryokuchi park, passing massive modern art fountains and huge patches of green until we reached the entrance to the open air concert hall.
Tumblr media
Doors to the venue opened at noon even though the live itself was scheduled for 4pm. We arrived around 2pm in an effort to not fully liquify due to heat by the time the concert started. We were told that no re-entry was allowed and offered salty candy, a staple during Japanese summers, on the way in. The concert hall was surrounded by concrete walls on all sides which trapped heat and somehow made it even hotter within the venue than it was outside of it. As fans milled around chatting with each other, a massive screen hanging above the stage played Fudanjuku concert DVDs, first of their 2017 Nakano Sun Plaza concert and later of the 10th anniversary concert in Hibiya Yaon.
Tumblr media
At the top of the seating area was a stretch of grass that included the goods table, a place to reserve CDs, a booth for participating in the chuusenkai (lottery raffle, using tickets you received from goods and CD purchases) and a tent spraying mist onto the several people who were camping out around it. On the opposite side of the venue from the entrance was a food truck serving various Fudanjuku-themed items like shaved ice in member colors and yakisoba named after one of their singles. We grabbed some snacks and settled in to wait.
Tumblr media
Shortly after 3pm, The Hoopers took the stage as the opening act. Originally established as Fudanjuku’s “little brother” group, The Hoopers made their major debut on a different label than their predecessors and the two have only managed to collaborate a handful of times, so it was wonderful to be able to see them at the same event again! The members were wearing airy white blouses and started off their set with energetic songs “Go! Go! Dance ga Tomaranai” and “New World.” Next up was “Romeo,” performed by The Hoopers’ subunit, Four Roses. All members came back on stage to perform their newest single, “Jewel no Kodou ga Kikoeru ka?” and Fudanjuku fans were happy to join in with the song’s furicopy (copying the members’ arm movements.) The Hoopers thanked the audience for welcoming them so warmly, and generously plugged their concert the following day, also taking place in Osaka. (I’m pleased to report that several Fudanjuku fans bought day-of tickets and attended!)
There was a bit of a break for everyone to rehydrate, and then it was time for the main act. One by one, members of the live band took the stage… all of them, women in danso. It suited all of them so well I wouldn’t have been shocked if you told me that they always perform like that. As the opening riffs of the first song started, Fudanjuku took the stage dressed in red and white striped outfits like Osaka’s famous clown mascot, Kuidaore Taro. Fudanjuku are always wonderfully goofy and silly so these outfits were super cute, even if maybe not the most flattering.
The first few songs started off with a burst of energy, with “Taiyou Mitai na Kimi ga Suki” and Fudanjuku’s quintessential summer song “Muteki Natsu Yasumi.” We didn’t have to wait long to find out what the “water” aspect of the live would be, as four massive cannons attached to the stage began periodically blasting in time with the music, firing arcs of water high above the audience.
From where I was sitting, the sun passing through the mist in the air painted an incredible rainbow over the members from one end of the stage to the other. At the group’s outdoor concerts in Hibiya’s Yaon in both 2012 and 2017, fans made an enormous rainbow in the audience for the members, so getting to see a completely real rainbow over the group as they performed their first outdoor concert in Osaka made me super emotional! It really felt like a scene out of a movie. Former Fudanjuku member Kyan Chiaki (FKA Bukiya Momotaro) managed to snap some photos from where she was seated:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to blasts of water from four cannons attached to the stage, members took turns running two at a time into the audience and spraying everyone with big water guns several times. Next up was towel-swinging seasonal song “Cocktail on the Beach” followed by upbeat “Ore no Sora,” “Kazamidori” and “This Is Love.”
There was a quick MC where one of the group’s newest members, Kuryu Masaki, was suspiciously absent. The others left the stage to prepare for the next song, and Masaki reappeared first in a flattering and handsome white and black outfit-- holding an electric violin. He lifted it to his chin and began playing the intro to “Moshimo Kore ga Koi Nara,” much to the audience’s delight. The other members joined him in the same cool outfits for the rest of the song, and continued into “Danso Revolution,” “Welcome to my Familia” and “Shunkan Tourai Future.”
After every few songs, the members would pause to rehydrate and encourage everyone to do the same, which prompted Fujimori Leo to initiate a venue-wide kanpai (cheers) among everyone’s water bottles, sports drinks, and the occasional alcohol. The setlist had a lot of similarities to what they’ve been using at other stops on their current tour, but between the water effects, members periodically running into the audience, and really creative visuals tailored specifically to each song being projected on the screen above the stage, it was a totally unique and immersive concert.
The guitarist switched out her electric for an acoustic for some relaxing versions of down-tempo “Hoshikuzu no Namida” and “Bokura no Arukumichi.” Around this time was another costume change, this time into cute and fun baseball uniform-style shirts in member colors with their names on the back. Energy ramped up again for “Daikoukai Boy,” “Eye of the Typhoon,” “Galileo ~Procyon wo Koete~,” and “Onaji Jidai ni Umareta Wakamonotachi.” The group’s most recent single, “Kimi Iroiro Utsuri,” suited the live band and summer energy especially well.
Water effects had also been in full effect during these few songs but I thought we’d already received the worst of it, until Seto Kouki was given control a high-powered water hose during the last song, “Arata naru Makuake no tame no Makuake ni yoru Kyoushikyoku ~Kimi ga Ireba Oretachi mo Egao Mugendai~.” As Fudanjuku fans may know, Kouki loves the ink-spraying Nintendo game series, Splatoon. Kouki really, really loves Splatoon. Kouki did not hold back as he used his acquired Splatoon skills and accuracy to thoroughly, completely drench several hundred audience members. Something about being soaked to the core by a member of one’s favorite group manning a firehouse makes it difficult to contain one’s laughter, and I found myself in hysterics as members did a last lap of the audience, taking GoPro selfies with soggy fans all the while.
I managed to find a dry corner of t-shirt to dry my glasses on before the encore, which included a cover of the permanent-hiatus female idol version of Fudanjuku, Nakano Fujoshi Sisters’ “tomorrow” and upbeat but bittersweet “Jaa, ne.” The members left the stage but were soon called back on for a double encore, inviting The Hoopers members to join them for another performance of the groups’ collaboration song made for their tour together last summer, “Kiratto Love.” After everyone left the stage, a final announcement on screen revealed that it wouldn’t be long before Fudanjuku’s next outdoor concert-- the final performance in the group’s 10th anniversary tours will be held at Hibiya Yaon on September 24th, with the setlist decided by fans!
Fans began streaming out of the venue, and in my sweaty, soggy state I felt immense relief I’d be able to head back to my hotel room and shower instead of boarding a bullet train as-is to head back to Tokyo. I’ve seen more Fudanjuku concerts than I can count at this point, but this one was easily in the top 5. It was absolutely one of their most creative performances, and really next-level fun for both fans and members alike. I’ve laughed through a lot of Fudanjuku concerts but never because I was being pelted with rocket-powered water. I’m looking forward to the DVD, but I sure have my fingers crossed that me looking like a drowned rat and beaming like an idiot doesn’t show up in the recording.

At this point many of the new and cool Funassyi products are available exclusively at the Funassyiland stores, with the exception of books, calendars etc. Which is good I guess if you live in Japan, since it’s one-stop shopping, but somewhat inconvenient for overseas Funassyi fans, since Funassyiland does not ship overseas. If you don’t have a cooperative friend in Japan, I recommend using a shopping service.

The 2018 weekly and monthly agenda/planners are also available. Both are very cute!

Also available (different designs) from Loft stores and physical Funassyiland stores (they seem to be sold out on the online store, but keep checking)

274ch.com
274ch.com, Funassyi’s official streaming video channel/fan club, is the main outlet for Funassyi’s video appearances. Videos are uploaded every couple of days, and are very funny, with Funassyi appearing far more loose and relaxed than he is on broadcast TV. Highlights include a cooking show, Funassyi imitating various Japanese entertainers (his imitation of Beat Takeshi aka Takeshi Kitano is priceless), Funassyi going camping, Funassyi going go-cart racing, and much more. There are also frequent live streams of The Pear doing interviews and so on.
There are also fan-exclusive meets with Funassyi, and fan-exclusive concerts too, for an extra fee.
Membership is 600 yen per month or 6,000 yen per year. You can now join from outside of Japan too, although the site is in Japanese only (and so is customer support and so on). Details here. You will most likely need a Japanese mailing address to receive materials from the site for now.
Note: Sometimes someone at the streaming video provider seems to turn on IP checking/blocking of non-Japanese IPs. If you can’t access the videos, just wait a few hours and it will usually get fixed.

Last but not least…
I know the updates here have less frequent of late. I have some serious health problems which make it hard to sit at my desk for extended periods - and I find it very hard to update Tumblr via my phone. I will try to update here as regularly as I can, but if you are on Facebook please join the We Love Funassyi group, which is quite active, with many enthusiastic Funatomo. See you there!

What top chefs eat at home in cities around the world
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re short on time and want to get to know a city, food is the ultimate passport. Slow-braised vegetables in Berlin or moreish tostadas in Mexico City will tell you more about a place, its history and culture than a whole afternoon on an open top-tourist bus.
For the ultimate inside scoop, top chefs in six international cities have shared what they like to eat once they’ve hung up their whites for the night.

On a desolate street, just minutes from the former Check Point Charlie site, isn’t where you’d expect to find one of Germany’s best restaurants – but that’s where Nobelhart and Schmutzig sits with its Michelin star and innovative menu that’s redefining German cuisine. Owner and sommelier Billy Wagner is usually behind the restaurant’s distinctive counter pouring fine German wines alongside the 10-course tasting menu, but if you turned up at his house after a busy weekend shift, you’d likely be served vegetables picked up at Markthalle Neun market.
Nobelhart and Schmutzig is redefining German cuisine (Nobelhart and Schmutzig)
“I’ll roast, braise or boil it using butter and oil, then add acidity like apples, vinegar or grape verjus. If the ingredient is really good you don’t have to do too much. As I like to have time with guests, I try not to make it too complicated.”
London
Between Victorian townhouses and St Peter’s Church in the leafy streets of Notting Hill, Clare Smyth’s Core restaurant has won her two Michelin stars and the honour of catering Harry and Meghan’s wedding. A classically trained Northern Irish chef, Clare turns out artisanal British dishes like jellied eel with malt vinegar, Isle of Mull scallop tartare and her signature confit potato with fish roe. But at home, Clare is all about the traditional Sunday roast: “Roast chicken is a special meal for me. It was something we looked forward to as a family and never missed. With a busy lifestyle, I rarely have time these days, so it’s even more special now and a great way of bringing people together. My favourite part is the roast potatoes cooked in duck fat, and I like stealing all the little nuggets of meat on the back of the bird, including the oysters.”

New York
Daniel Humm’s Eleven Madison Park restaurant might be a hop across the Atlantic, but he’s a big fan of roast chicken too. “It’s my go-to dish. It’s an easy-to-prepare crowd pleaser, and it’s a great centrepiece to build a meal around, with salads, sides, some French bread and a nice bottle of wine. My mother made roast chicken when I was growing up, and I’ve found it an important to dish in my culinary career. It’s comforting, familiar, and you can make it simple or use it as a canvas for diverse flavours.”
Tasting menus are served in Eleven Madison Park’s art deco dining room (Eleven Madison Park)
Eleven Madison Park is one of the city’s most prestigious dinner spots, overlooking New York’s iconic Madison Square Park. An eight to 10-course menu is served in the impressive art deco dining room, and while roast chicken doesn’t make a regular appearance, the restaurant is famous for serving possibly the oldest steak in New York, with its 140-day dry-aged beef.
Chicago
Chicago’s food scene has the buzz of New York without the Big Apple attitude. Everest is one of the city’s oldest fine dining institutions, rising above the South Loop like its mountainous namesake on the 40th floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange building. With one Michelin star, Jean Joho’s menu is firmly rooted in Alsatian cuisine, including his renowned Maine lobster with Gewürztraminer butter. Jono’s favourite family meal is another Alsatian classic: “Baeckeoffe or ‘baker’s oven’ is a traditional casserole I remember fondly from my childhood. It’s a hearty dish that’s meant to be shared with friends and family. It’s cooked slowly and the aroma of meat, simmering with potatoes, leeks and Alsace Riesling wafts through the room. It’s perfect for a winter evening in Alsace, or in Chicago, where I live now.”
Jean Joho has taken Alsatian cuisine to Chicago (Everest)
Mexico City
Pujol restaurant is in the affluent Polanco district of Mexico City, just a few blocks from the largest and most iconic park, El Bosque de Chapultepec. Enrique Olvera’s restaurant playfully elevates Mexican street food to haute cuisine, serving aged moles or smoked baby corn with chicatana ant dust. But his favourite dish is pulpos en su tinta, or stewed octopus. “My mother always made it for my birthday,” he says. “I love it with white rice. It’s a very simple dish.”
Tokyo

In the buzz of Chiyoda in central Tokyo, opposite the immaculate Hibiya Park and Imperial Palace, you’ll find Chef Seiji Yamamoto’s three-Michelin starred Nihonryori RyuGin restaurant. Yamamoto is credited as the first chef to bring modern techniques to the ancient multi-course tradition of kaiseki cuisine, which showcases hyper-seasonal ingredients in a dazzling 12-course menu. At home, his food is pared back: “I love cooking yosenabe Japanese hot pot with crab, prawns, meat, and vegetables. The yuzu, kombu kelp and bonito flakes are my favourite flavours, and I prepare many kinds of sauces and condiments. I’ll share one hot pot with all my friends; each person makes their own dipping sauce and with a beer and some Japanese sake we always have a lively conversation.”

03.08.2017 MERRY's Gara and sukekiyo's Kyo talk about the upcoming 3 band event organized by MERRY!
Tumblr media
I literally just posted an excerpt from this but YOU KNOW WHAT. Here’s the whole thing! This is a REALLY entertaining interview so I had to translate it all! They discuss things such as: how they came up with such a weird event name, who came up with the strange merch, who Kyo wants to stab with a trick knife, what kinds of projects they want to do together in the future, and Gara’s never-ending admiration of Kyo
 Enjoy!
MERRY's Gara and sukekiyo's Kyo talk about the upcoming 3 band event organized by MERRY!
“Blooming in March in stupidity, a hail of rusted scissors and martial law at the tricycle flower garden, please forgive me”, a three-band event organized by MERRY, will take place in March in Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo. Sukekiyo will perform at each show. In addition, Inugami Circus Dan will perform in Osaka and Metronome will perform in both Nagoya and Tokyo. Each band has their own very strong presence.
I was able to speak with Gara, the mastermind behind this event, and Kyo, who has played an important role in various ways in Gara’s life.
- The last time you two had an interview was six years ago. It was before sukekiyo started activities.
Gara: That's right. We had transferred to the same company as Kyo at that time and Kyo produced something for us. (T/N: MERRY's Beautiful Freaks album!)
- MERRY's journey hasn't been an easy one, has it?
Gara: That's right.
Kyo: It was the worst recently, right? We talked about this a little while ago, but it seemed like you were doing shows every day. I was thinking, "what's the matter with you?”
Gara: Yes. This February was the hardest (wry laugh).
- Now you seem to have an immense urge to create. Are you feeling that kind of fighting spirit?
Gara: I'm focusing all of my efforts on working toward the 5/5 show at Hibiya Yaon.
-  Gara, what kind of feeling do you think Kyo projects through his performances with sukekiyo?
Gara: DIR EN GREY's theme is "pain", but I also feel the total opposite. There is rage and spite hidden within silence. I really feel that strongly. Personally, I like sukekiyo's outlook the best. I get really engrossed in the production and lighting, too.
- sukekiyo's shows have a sort of performing arts feel to them, don't they? There are probably some readers who don't know the connection between Gara and Kyo, but Gara once worked as a roadie for Kyo, right?
Gara: That's right. Almost immediately after I went to Tokyo. We met around then. About 20 years have already passed since then. Whenever I had a problem I'd consult with Kyo, he's very reassuring. He scolds me when I mess up and also tells me when I do something right.
- You can't really be described as having a student-teacher relationship, but you do have a relationship where you can talk about anything. This will be the fourth time MERRY and sukekiyo stand on the same stage. Do the fans also welcome this "sukemerry" combination?
Kyo: If I was a fan, I'd probably think "They work at the same office, don't they work together too much anyway?" Is the power of adults at work here? (T/N: I think he means like management making them work together since they’re in the same company?)
Gara: But if you look at the title of this event, none of that power is at work, is it? (laughs)
Kyo: I was asked by Gara "what should we do about a title?". I said, "Let's each take turns writing one word at a time”. And this was the result.
Gara: sukekiyo, Metronome, Inugami Circus Dan. They're nothing but bands with their own strong personalities, so I thought about what to name the event for a long time. With these bands I really wanted a suitable name so I asked Kyo, and this was his idea.
- So that's how it happened. It’s fun to imagine who chose which word. It's a really long title, so I was thinking that all of the elements in the title would somehow influence the show.
Gara: You're putting too much thought into it (Laughs). At first we didn't say who was performing and just announced the title. The fans all thought "What is this?" Since DIR EN GREY had their own schedules, the fans probably didn't think that sukekiyo would be participating, either.
Kyo: Since last year we've been saying that we want to perform together again.
Gara: This time I personally asked Kyo directly, "are you free in March?" It's an event MERRY is sponsoring, but I talked a lot with Kyo and the other sukekiyo members and it was fun, so I feel like the event is really fresh.
Kyo: And to be more specific, there’s the goods, right? We thought, "Let's make something that absolutely no one else would."
Gara: We started with the goods when Yuu asked, "What do we want to make?" But they ended up being ideas that made us constantly ask "Kyo, where did you get the idea for this?"
Kyo: I'm the type that is constantly full of ideas.
Gara: Even the stickers. If you buy a winning sticker, for some reason you'll win a Nero dakimakura.
Kyo: We had a discussion like "Wouldn't it be great if the prize was something like a dakimakura?" and then the conversation turned to "Let's make one of Nero!"
Gara: We didn’t tell Nero “we’re making these sorts of goods”. We just out of nowhere showed him the final product and said, “we’re releasing this dakimakura of you!” He was so pleased. I’m really glad that even planning the goods for this event was so fun.
- It sounds like you had more fun than the fans will (Laughs)
Gara: Yes. When Kyo told us that he wanted to sell a toy knife we were really surprised. It's one of those trick knives used in magic tricks that retracts. My immediate reaction was "Do we need this?" (Laughs)
Kyo: It doesn't matter whether or not we need it. It's about selling goods that no other band has sold before. It's that kind of festival-like event, so people will buy things while thinking "What... what the hell is this?" And it's good for stabbing your friends with, too.
Gara: That's right (laughs). In spite of you being so busy lately, you were so fast with this. I learned a lot about how you come up with such ideas.
Kyo: I hate sitting around and not accomplishing anything. I'm the type who wants to finish things quickly. Ideas for interesting things just come to me on their own.
Gara: That’s how Kyo is for production too, with both sukekiyo and DIR EN GREY, he’s constantly doing something. Even though we’re usually pretty close to each other, this is a process I didn’t know about before. So I feel like it was a good opportunity for me.
- Kyo, what do you think of MERRY in recent years?
Kyo: Recently, I've seen a lot of photos of Gara wearing the cap from school uniforms and thought, "So this is what their current shows are like." In February they had a huge number of shows, and a morning show, and shows only held if it rained, too. It honestly made me think "There's got to be something wrong with him"
- They keep having very rich and energetic shows. To go back to our previous topic, during the March event, will you do a collaboration together at the event in March?
Kyo: Well, I don't think we will this time, right?
Gara: To be honest, after tracking them down, I just want to enjoy sukekiyo, since their performances are so unique.  Even though I’d been singing for over 10 years and had never felt that nervous about it, when sukekiyo asked me to sing on stage with them before, I seriously felt like I'd throw up.
Kyo: Hahaha!
Gara: I thought, “this is how Kyo sings?” The pressure was definitely not small. Their performance is very delicate, and the music and melodies are seriously hard. This is our fourth time together, but I want to show him that both as Gara and as Merry, we’ve grown up. I have confidence now. In Osaka, Nagoya, and finally in Tokyo, I want it to be like a collision from the very beginning. This is our first time with Inugami Circus Dan, and our last time with Metronome was about 10 years ago. They're all bands with really strong personalities, so I'm looking forward to it.
- Kyo is releasing a new book, "Aum no ari" in April. It covers a wide range of expression. Gara, do you want to try making something like this too?
Gara: I've thought about it a lot. I've seen Kyo drawing, painting, and releasing poetry and photography books.
Kyo: You've released something too!
Gara: I have, but it's absolutely nowhere near being in the same level of cool as Kyo's. It's about collapsing from a herniated disc on stage.
Kyo: I think it's a good thing that you released something that fresh and direct.
Gara: When I said I was going to get surgery, Kyo was the one who told me "You should write something about this". When he produced for us before, he used to tell me, "Isn't it best to try doing other things too, not just the band?" Yuu drawn, Nero does photography. Kyo didn't just tell me this, he told the whole band, and it made all of us want to create more.
Kyo: If you take inspiration from things other than music and then bring it back to your own music, it feels fresher, and you can make things from different perspectives. I thought that if MERRY did this sort of thing, I thought their appeal would get even stronger, so I told them this constantly back then.
- I see. You should continuously do what you want in different ways. In June, sukekiyo is holding a hall performance at Tokyo International Forum, "rakkasuru getsumen". Its' title has a deep meaning, too.
Kyo: This show will have a different feeling than the others so far. We're still in the meeting stage, so I don't know how far it'll go, but I'm thinking of changing our way of expression to something a little newer.
Gara: Can audience members move a little at sukekiyo's current shows?
Kyo: There are some days like that.
Gara: What about the event in March?
Kyo: Well, it's an event. That doesn't mean that anything is okay, but it's no good if our fans move.
Gara: Will you say something?
Kyo: “Shut up!"
Gara: Hahah. So for example, if people who haven't seen sukeiyo before start shouting, then it'll be really bad...
Kyo: My fans will glare at them.
Gara: Hahaha! It’s a matter of reading the atmosphere, isn't it?
Kyo: Yes, yes. Sukekiyo fans have thought about "what does it mean to be a sukekiyo fan". If someone is moving around too much, they'll think "ah, this person doesn't know anything..."
-  I see (laughs)
Gara: When I sang "mama" at Akasaka BLITZ, 1,000 totally motionless people were looking at me. I'd never been stared at in complete silence like that before, it was really rough (wry laugh)
Kyo: MERRY and sukekiyo's fans have been to events together before, and they both know what kind of style we each have, so I think everyone gets along. I wonder what it'll be like with Inugami Circus Dan and Metronome's fans though. I wonder if they’ll all be kind.
Gara: I didn’t want to have the same atmosphere as usual events. I think it’s better to show each performer’s personality and intensity. Even though there are three bands, there will be plenty of time for each one. I want people to be able to understand the atmosphere and perspective of each band.
Kyo: Recently I already said it’s okay, but I want to play together again.
Gara: Right! We talked about doing a tour in places like cabarets, in clubs in rundown parts of the city.
Kyo: I want to try calling on Chinese and Korean visual kei bands, too.
Gara: Revivals of old bands would be good too, right?
Kyo: I wonder if they’d get back together if we asked? Like ●●●● or ×××× . (T/N: These were two censored band names)
Gara:  They have similar worldviews, don’t they. (Laughs) This time it'd be good if there were some performers, too.
Kyo: Being able to do things like that freely is MERRY and sukekiyo's strong point. They're bands of course, but it seems like anything could happen during their shows.
-  Outside of sukekiyo and MERRY's events, are there any other projects you want to do together?
Kyo: No, nothing like that.
Gara: Yes, by all means, I want to try something.
Kyo: Something like a split CD together would be interesting.
Gara: Yes. We're from the same company, soI think there are a lot of things we would be able to do.
Kyo: I said before that it sounds like we just do things together since we’re from the same company, but if we can overcome this obstacle by doing something together, no one will say anything about it anymore.
Gara: And that's the interview! I have a question though. What were you thinking of when you decided to make the knife?
Kyo: Stabbing Nero.
Gara: No, no no! (laughs). Is that the reason why everyone will buy it?
Kyo: Well, we didn't make that many, so it's pretty rare? The Sukemerry knife.
Gara: No, that's not right. It's the “oinochi okunhareya knife”! (laughs)
Kyo: Hahaha!
Gara: We decided on the names of all the goods together, too. "Let's add ‘okunnahareya’ to all their names" Huh? Are we really going to have “gum okunnahareya” too?
Kyo: Yeah. I wanted to make trick gum that will snap onto your finger. (T/N: I guess like a mousetrap sort of prank?)
Gara: When I asked Kyo "What should we sell?" he said "trick gum". It's not something that a good adult would buy. You just put your finger it in it and say “yaay!” It's over after the first time, probably (laughs)
Kyo: That's good though. Buy it just for that one moment.
- It seems like it'll be a festival before and after the show, too. (laughs) Since we have the chance to talk together, is there anything else you want to say to each other?
Gara: When I stand on stage I can't be defeated, but if I consider the path I should take and the attitude I should have as a vocalist, Kyo is the closest person who sings and also teaches by example. I hope it’s always like this. Someday I want him to tell me, “You’ve finally made it here”. As long as I’m in a band, this is a goal I’ll try to reach.
Kyo: Why are you being so serious?! (laughs). I want to produce a young band together with Gara. There's a lot of things that we can’t do as just the two of us. It'd probably be something REALLY weird. Don’t include our names!
Gara: I'd like it if this event was a chance for us to create something together. That's the feeling I have.
Kyo: It'd be nice if we included the young band we produce.
Gara: You're really looking forward to this, aren't you? After this event, I think we'll probably say "What should we do next time?" and come up with ideas together.
- Well, lastly, let's talk about your aspirations for this event.
Gara: The event is full of really strong bands, so I want to end the event by making people remember MERRY's name. I just want the other band's fans to see what MERRY can show or express. If the event ends with people just thinking "that was fun!" then the event has no meaning.
- What do you think, Kyo?
Kyo: I'm just here because of MERRY. I'll enter the venue as usual, and go eat ramen after the show.
Gara: You say that, but since it's you, Kyo, I don't know what you're actually going to do! I'm nervous that something is going to happen.
Kyo: MERRY is the one who gave me this freedom!
Gara: Scary... (laughs) This event that I put together myself is putting pressure on me, but I'll do my best.

Japan - Day 10 (Tokyo Disney Sea & My Birthday!)
Tumblr media
April 24th is my birthday! I turned 25. Before taking this trip I had determined that I wanted to be in one of the Tokyo Disney parks on my birthday, so we made it happen! Because the weather was good and the park itself is unique to the Disney park family, we decided on Tokyo Disney Sea as our first stop!
To preface this blog, there will likely be a set of Disney entries. The daily entries, food blogs, and a general Tokyo Disney blog. When the others are complete I will link them within the corresponding posts. That being said, these daily post may not be as in-depth because of a lot of the detail will be in the expanded posts! I love Disney way too much and Tumblr can only handle so much in a single text and photo post!
I got up decently early, about 4:00AM, I was too excited and we finally had to get going early for once. No 9:00AM start. The Disney Sea park opened at 8:30AM and we had to get there and buy our tickets as well.
The train ride was a little more complicated today. We took the Asakusa line to Ningyocho, switched to the Hibiya line to get off at Hatchobori, then again switched to the JR Keiyo Line and arrived at Maihama. Maihama is the Disney stop!
Once you reach Maihama you can either go to Ikspiari (shopping area), walk to the Disneyland main gate, or get on the Tokyo Disney Resort Line (costs about $2) and take that to Tokyo Disney Sea.
We obviously took the resort line since we were heading over to Disney Sea. We opted for Disney Sea our first day because it was nice out and the park is unique to Tokyo.
Tumblr media
There is also an Easter event going on right now at the resort!
Tumblr media
I don’t want to say the park was packed because in reality it wasn’t too bad. The popular rides had a long wait but nothing outlandish. 100 minutes was the highest I saw all day and it was for Toy Story Mania. Many of the rides had a 20 minute wait, with the other popular rides around 40-60 minutes.
Anyway! When we arrived it looked insanely busy because everyone here seems to show up before the park opens. This isn’t quite as common in the States.
Tumblr media
I ran straight for Journey to the Center of the Earth upon entering, needed to get fast passes, and the husband took our jackets and put them in a locker.
We rode the big rides that were important to us pretty quickly, in about the first hour and a half, and then took it slow. I really enjoyed the Journey to the Center of the Earth ride. I have no clue how large the drop was, I usually avoid drops, but I didn’t care I had fun! We ended up riding it twice. Between rides on the Journey we ventured over to Indiana Jones, which was very similar to Disneyland, but still fun!
Tumblr media
We picked up some snacks on the way as we found things we wanted. Such as this shrimp bun! Everything in the park is incredibly well themed and that includes the food. Not only was the packaging adorable but the food was as well!
Tumblr media
Another example of the snacks we had - the famous Green Men Dumplings. These make their way all over the internet because they are so cute and unique.
Tumblr media
Between snacks we spent our time getting on the rides that had shorter 20 minute waits. There are so many rides that are only in this park I was so excited to try them out, even if they were kid rides.
Additionally, the Disney Sea park is incredibly beautiful, I can see why a lot of people say it’s the best of all the Disney parks. It has such a special feel and look to it, it’s unlike anything else in the Disney family. You can definitely tell how important it is to them that they carry the theme and that everything is perfect.
I had so much fun just looking at everything. We spent a lot of our time during the day just exploring and looking at the different areas.
Tumblr media
Each area of Disney Sea park represents a different world, be that a real world or a made up on. For example one of the most impressive areas of the park in my opinion was the Under the Sea area. Absolutely amazing looking, very unique atmosphere.
Tumblr media
One big thing for us during the day was lunch! There was a taco restaurant! As people from the southwest we are blessed with so many options when it comes to Mexican food, and we definitely eat it often. This usually means I crave it when I travel internationally because you just don’t find it anywhere! We were very excited to have some and it was pretty good!
We spent more time exploring and wandering through the shops. We bought a few things. I made sure to pick up a headband i’d been eyeing, as well as a little pouch that are incredibly popular here. Mine it a Mickey hamburger, because it thought it was hilarious looking.
As mentioned the park itself is beautiful! During the day it’s beautiful and the same can be said for night. The park lights up! There is a completely different feel at night, there is something very special about the night time here. We made it a point to stick around until It was dark just so we could see the park light up. It was totally worth it!
Tumblr media
Disney may not seem like the type of place you’d want to go after traveling across the globe, it’s just a theme park. For us we love Disney so it was a must. More than that, I actually think it’s a great way to really see the culture of a country. There are so many unique things that people do here that you don’t see in the United States park. It’s very fun to people watch and just soak in the cultural differences here!
We ended up leaving the park around 7:00PM. We had a 40 minute ride back to Asakusa and we didn’t want to go to bed too late as we are doing this all over again in the morning!
Please look forward to the other Disney blogs as they will give a more indepth look of the park, food and rides!

@taro4oto2:
Me: Jin-san, in your mind, what kind of adult will Kisaragi Shintarou become in the future...? Jin: Ah~! Kisaragi Shintarou, huh; he is who he is~. I’m thinking of writing songs concerning him from now on too. I’m currently 28, and if I think about him at around this age... I guess he’d probably be a teacher or something like it.
@BlueD01:
“Jin-san, what do you think Momo-chan will be in the future?” Jin-san: Let’s see... *thinks a little* An actress, I guess. “‘An actress’?” *thought process stops* Jin-san: She might also go... overseas. (Memory is faint here.) “Ooh.” Jin-san: I want to write these stories about the future next time. (At last.) “Thank you very much!”
@920ms:
My hands were shaking during Jin-san’s autograph session. Hella.
Although it was a commemorative autograph section for the release of MekaRelo, I’d wanted to tell him no matter what that I get strength from listening to Otsukimi Recital when I have to lighten up... So, I told him this, but I accidentally ended up babbling that Hibiya and Momo’s interactions were the most interesting to me and that I liked them a lot. And then Jin-san said, “I like them too! What will happen to them from now on?? I’m really curious!” as if to dig into it.
Of course I knew that he liked Hibiya and Momo’s combo, but the “What will happen to them from now on?” has been echoing in my brain the entire time... I had a bunch of other things to say, like, “The songs of Momo’s friends are also the best” and, “I’d been listening to Mekakucity Days/Records/Reload a~~ll the time coming the way here”, but my attention was drawn too hard by Jin’s words, so I couldn’t do it...
@BrainBurnShout:
Started with an explosive crossfade.
The host was the woman in charge of KADOKAWA’s Mekakucity Talkers (she’s a beauty).
Jin entered the stage slurping the Shissou Word-themed drink like, “I’d wanted to eat the pancakes but they sold out before I got to it.”
He had his first impression of VOCALOID with “Melt”.
The origin of his conceptualization of “stories told through music” stemmed from Kinniku Shoujo Tai and The Who.
He had planned on the narrative even before Jinzou Enemy, and while gathering up the pattern usage of “a story that ~ the eyes”, the first one he came up with was the one that “locks the eyes”.
One sentence of the initial concept that remained in his PC was: “Medusa does not come out of her house.” (original text)
KagePro is a “curse from his 19-year-old self” because his period of training was long.
He struggles with the consistency of the plot, like, “This and that don’t connect!” and, “That’s my old self~”.
During the innitialization of his PC, he interpreted the “name registration” wrong and accidentally named his PC “Frederica”.
*PC falls down the stairs during moving* Jin: FREDERICAAAAAA!!!!!
He had the ending of the story decided from the beginning.
Due to this, he couldn’t introduce new characters even though he’d always wanted to.
He’s been writing the sequel while thinking that if it turns out impossible to publish, then so be it.
Host: Are you going to make them reincarnate in a parallel world? Jin: That would be a spin-off... like, “Kagerou Quest” or something.
What hides beneath Ayano’s gentleness was something he’d come up with since the initial stages. (He didn’t mention it on Twitter or the like, though.)
[In regards of a question about “becoming an adult”] Jin: Until joining (Edword) Records, I had been in the position of Big Bro, but now I’m a full-fledged Uncle.
Since he’s an adult, he has to pay taxes. He’s been somehow making ends meet with the money that everyone bought the CD with.
[In regards of a question by an Asahiner from the audience about My Funny Weekend] The cheerful verses like the one that goes, “move forward” were said by Hiyori.
The Asahiner who had been waiting all this time for a Hiyori song is overcome with emotion.
The reason why there wasn’t a Hiyori song from the start is that, “If I had included her, everyone’s worries would have been relatively...”
Jin-san: Hiyori-sama.
He has the image of the adult Mekakushi-dan.
It seems Kido will be a caretaker in an orphanage.
When he talked about that image to Sidu-san, the MV’s adult!Kido was suddenly brought up. Jin: Did you turn her into an adult already? Sidu: Should I not have done that?
Hibiya will be an archeologist, and since the Medusa is said to have her roots abroad, he might do a research on that.
Even in Jin-san’s own mind, there are many interpretations: “So and so will get married”, “No, it’ll be so and so”. “The one Shintarou will marry is Haruka!” *audience acclaims*
Jin-san will write the interpretation of the winner of his peerless inner fight.
Haruka is main heroine.
Rather than saying that the albums go from 1st and 2nd to the 3rd, it’s more like the 1st and 2nd are an omnimbus and the 3rd is a backside.
What he depicted with Imaginary Reload was the strength of Mary, who isn’t there just to be protected.
The top was reached by drawing out the 274BPM Konoha~
Remind Blue has parts of Summer Time Record that he hadn’t been able to write about.
It was supposed to be Shintarou’s song, but the lyrics turned out as something that applies to everyone. (Seto has his own Remind Blue and it might be that Kano thinks the same things.)
As a result of Jin-san’s definition of friends, which is “we think alike even without saying anything”, it ended up becoming a song about the whole Mekakushi-dan.
From Jin-san’s childhood experiences, fireworks = summer’s end (an element also used in the novels).
Therefore, the English version of “Wasurete Shimatta Natsu no Owari ni” is “Fireworks in the Summer End”.
@ndfakvnico:
Shissou Word “She’s bad with words, and I’m the same as her, so I made that into a song.”
Additional Memory A song about regret. Jin-san’s grandfather passed away, and for a while upon coming to Tokyo, he hadn’t been able to see him at all. After the funeral, Jin-san found a file with cutouts of himself from magazines that his grandfather had kindly gathered up. He regretted not having been able to convey anything to him.
Lost Day Hour A song about friends. There was a time during middle school in which he found himself unable to go to school. “If you don’t go once, you become less and less able to.” Back then, he encountered wonderful music. A-kun (provisory nickname), who told him that he also liked said music, came around and the two of them formed a band together. Jin became able to attend high school. He didn’t know what a friend was until then, but he thought, “I guess he’s my friend”.
Wasurete Shimatta Natsu no Owari ni A song with the image of summertime fireworks. “Tokachi District holds the second largest fireworks festival of the country. I wonder what being second place is like. Just what are they fighting on this? (laughs)” It’s like the scenery of Gin no Saji; a place with that kind of feeling to it.
Remind Blue “Summer is hot and I don’t like it, but it has its charm. I wonder if I was properly able to make that end of summer into a song.”
As always, he drank a lot of water. Actually, in addition to the four bottles that were put there, he also brought a lot of water with him.
As he talked about each song, he would play them with his accoustic guitar.
“Such an honestly pretty library. So many books. It’s my first time singing in a place like this, so I’d been wondering if I wouldn’t get chased out if someone like me suddenly showed up and started singing. (laugh)”
By the way, he was indeed wearing a jersey... lol.
He was super cool when he was singing, but during the time of exiting the stage, he made his way out unsteadily while bowing, so he gave off a feeling of ordinary Nii-chan and it was heartwarming.
He’s good at singing. (my childish reaction)
His manner of speech was extremely gentle, and though I really enjoy the excitement of live concerts and the like, that calm atmosphere and his kind way of performing and talking had me going, “Aah, this totally goes well with Jin-san. It totally goes super well with him. Play-and-talk live concerts are the best...”
There were 100 people with regular tickets, lots of others were standing behind them, the costumers of the nearby Starbucks were all looking too, and many people also stood watching in rows at the second floor’s corridors.
The venue was a Jin World.
I’d been reflecting on the meaning of him doing a library live, and I think it’s something amazing. At the end of it, a staff member asked something by requesting people to raise their hands, and turns out that there were mostly middle and high scholars attending. It felt like there were also grade scholars and college students. Is there any other rock musician who would open an event at a middle school or a public library? Well, there might be, but that’s still incredible...
We were told that we couldn’t enter the venue unless we had a regular ticket, that it was okay to enter because it was a public space, that we couldn’t get autographs, that we actually could get them even without the ticket, and, hum, get your information... together... (tiny voice)
He talked a lot more about the songs, but it’s not coming to me... aah.
In one sentence, it was awesome.
@kugamiryou
The moderator this time was the editor of Mekakucity Talkers, and her hairstyle was kind of similar to Azami-san’s.The song order of the rendition was “Shissou Word”, “Additional Memory”, “Lost Day Hour”, “My Funny Weekend” and “Wasurete Shimatta Natsu no Owari ni”... but! Guess what: Jin-san said, “I wanna play them after all” and additionally performed the first part of “Imaginary Reload” and all of “Remind Blue”!! Jin-san’s hopping as he played was cute.
The general course of events was that a teaser movie soon played, then the host came on-stage and called Jin-san over, Jin-san showed up slurping a Shissou Word drink, choked while drinking it, and then performed Shissou Word. After that, it was announced that there would be a lottery and some of the prizes were Jin-san’s personal belongings.
The first corner was “Jin-san Talks About Kagerou Project”. It was a talk about why he started making KagePro. With the trigger being that the band he had in high school broke up, he decided to make stuff on his own, and he started creating a story first from the fact that “There are many depictions of ‘eyes that do ○○’, huh!” or something of the sort.
“Locking eyes” ➡ “Medusa” ➡ “This is it!!” ➡ “A Medusa who doesn’t want to lock eyes with anyone won’t come out of her house!” - with this trend, it seems the first thing he planned out was Kuusou Forest.
Apparently, the stories of the novel and manga progressed with him deciding their ending first, and he indeed wants to write the next novel. If he ends up unable to publish it, he’ll write it like, “whatever” and turn it into a book anyway, and he talked about writing something like “Kagerou Quest”, lol.
After he finished performing Additional Memory, he stated that he “couldn’t mention it on Twitter”, but he had wanted to say that “Ayano isn’t just a gentle girl”. From then on, we had a questions-and-answers corner.
Q.: What was the moment in which you thought, “I’ve become an adult”? A.: That’s a theme I want to write about in the next novel. I thought, “I’ve turned into an adult, huh” when I was making Lost Day Hour and suddenly felt like calling my friends. Also, when I started paying taxes.
From someone who’s been an Asahiner for 7 years: I want to know the reason why you made My Funny Weekend. A.: I’d wanted to use Hiyori, but I couldn’t until now. Hiyori is strong, so if I’d used her before, she would make everyone else’s worries dim. It feels like Hiyori made me write the parts that go, “being greedier is just fine”. I’m not the one who came up with them.
From a person who used to stan Shintarou and started stanning Ayano after Additional Memory: Please tell us the reason why you gave Ayano that moment in AddiMemo. A.: It’s the one song in MekaRelo in which someone is dying alone. Sorry for going, “I’m sorry” right after singing, “It’ll surely be an even better day!”. This is actually a story that I wished I had included in the manga.
Q.: I would like to know about the Mekakushi-dan of the early stages. A.: There are parts of the way the loops work that I haven’t written yet. There’s a possibility that, epending on the loop, the characters of the first Mekakushi-dan might show up (like the female Konoha).
Q.: I would like to know about the Mekakushi-dan of the early stages. A.: There are parts of the way the loops work that I haven’t written yet. There’s a possibility that, epending on the loop, the characters of the first Mekakushi-dan might show up (like the female Konoha).
Q.: Will you write the story of the characters turning into adults? A.: I’ve already thought out what kind of jobs each will have and who will be married to who. There are many stories in the minds of everyone, but I want to write something like, “This kind of future also exists”. For example, Kido taking over the orphanage and Hibiya becoming an archeologist to investigate the Medusa abroad. But whenever I try to make so and so get married, another side of me cuts it off like, “Wait a minute... the one who will marry Shintarou is Haruka, right?”, so whoever wins this unique armed struggle tournament inside my brain will be the one to write.
~About MekaRelo~
He had wanted to make songs regarding what he couldn’t write in the novel.
Imaginary Reload: it’s about the girl who had been waiting to be rescued in Kuusou Forest going off to fight on her own will, and doesn’t just wait to be saved. It’s 274 BPM, so it’s the fastest song?
Shissou Word: it’s based on the fear that Jin-san experienced when he was a child from continuously being asked, “Why can’t you do such a normal thing?” and from wondering, “What is ‘normal’ even?”
My Funny Weekend: it’s the song that feels the most final episode-like to him.
Additional Memory: a song that he thought he “had to write”. It’s the saddest one.
Lost Day Hour: the song that had him thinking, “I have to make this” back when he was writing volume 6.
Remind Blue: a song that made him think, “This is the last summer song”. It’s a song packed with the things he didn’t manage to write about in SumReco. It has the image of Shintarou, but there are parts about Haruka, about Seto and about Kano, so it’s kind of a song with no definite protagonist. Makes one think about not forgetting summer.
Wasurete Shimatta Natsu no Owari ni: since the fireworks festival that he once watched in his hometown is his image of the end of summer, so he had wanted to make a story that ended with people watching fireworks, but he was indecisive, because “the last battle happens in the basement of a school, what do I do~” (said originally with a northern accent). He didn’t want to let summer end, but if it didn’t end, it would be weird and unpleasant.
After this talk, Jin-san was about to play My Funny Weekend, but realized that the Shissou Word drink he was having had disappeared without him noticing and was like, “Where’s my Never-Lost Word!?”. He drank water instead, sulking.
“I might make a mistake, sorry!” ➡ *makes a mistake during the hook* ➡ “There were no mistakes, right!?”
Then, we had the big lottery. Sadly, although I had a number in hands, I wasn’t able to get Medusa, the amplifier that Jin-san used when making Imaginary Reload. Sad.
And so, we had the last song, Wasurete Shimatta Natsu no Owari ni. Jin-san played while saying, “I wanna do collaboration drinks again~”
Everyone frantically lined up to pay their checks and buy goods, but then Jin-san suddenly came back, said, “I wanna do this after all!” and played Imaginary Reload and Remind Blue while drenched in sweat. “Why is it that I’m sweating so much even though I’m playing while seated?”
And then it really was the end... however, people quickly queued to get autographs as if racing to board the last train. While stiffly shuddering, I also got autographs on my CDs and MekaTalk, then handed a letter to him.
I was happy to get a “Ah! It’s a folded paper crane!” reaction from him, but I was nervous for real, so I turned into the typical figure of a useless otaku. When he was signing, I told him, “I won’t be able to go to tomorrow’s autograph session, so I’m happy to be getting it now.” and he replied, “I’ll hold lots of other events after this one! So when the time comes, please! Do attend them!!”
I’ll go.
@Hiroyannn168
I arrived at the venue a bit too early, and when I was waiting for the opening, the staff people and Jin-san passed by me like it was nothing...! He was giving off a civilian-like aura. He boarded the elevator crammed with staff members as if having fun, and when the door was closing, he waved a little at us.
During Jin-san’s play-and-talk live, there was a questions corner and Jin-san discussed about the compositions. He had always wanted to try creating collaboration drinks based off the songs, so it seems he talked it over with the personnel like, “Shissou Word is this kind of song” and, “This color will do~” and, “Could you make this thing float? Is it impossible?” in order to have them made. The band BACKHORN, which Jin-san likes, had been doing these kinds of collaboration drinks, so he had wanted to try his hand at it no matter what.
There were also two types of pancakes that had the image of song compositions, RED and BLUE, and just when Jin-san thought of eating them too, he was told by someone from the staff, “There are only five left” and went, “Incredible” www... They were mad popular, so there was a lot of people eating them.
When Jin-san entered the stage, he brought with him a Shissou Word-themed glass and was drinking it like, “Yummy”.
He’d said on Twitter that he wanted to do something like explaining about the compositions of the songs, so he tweeted about it just a little, but he hadn’t been able to tweet at all after that, apparently because he had been practicing for the live and doing all sorts of things in the meantime. It seems that, since Jin-san was late to tweet about it, he decided to do it properly if he had the chance to tweet later. Is what he said. That he wanted to “explain a little about the song compositions tonight~”.
First track was Shissou Word. At the applause that rose naturally from the audience, Jin-san bashfully said, “thank you” in-between the lyrics. The motif behind Shissou Word was Jin-san’s experience with being asked, “Why can’t you do normal things?” Even though normal things are easy to do for other people, they’re difficult for him... that’s what the song says.
He looked happy when he asked a girl sitting at the far right of the first row, “What are you drinking?” It seems that this person was having the Additional Memory drink (it was red).
Second track was Additional Memory. The song goes like, “Ayano has a so-called gentle girl image, but she also bears these kinds of feelings”. I sensed that listening to the hook with Jin-san’s live voice made it resonate even more sharply in my heart. A shout of her emotions... is what it felt like, I guess?
Jin-san also said something along the lines of, “It’s great being able to expand my range of expression by not just using VOCALOIDs but singing with my own voice too~”.
It seems Jin-san spent a period in truancy during his childhood, and what gave him energy back then was music and books. At any rate, by the looks of it, that had been a truancy amongst truancies.
He’d wanted to form a band in high school, but the bassist quit, so he quickly became spineless about it. It appears that when he was like, “What do I do?”, a senpai of his recommended VOCALOID to him. He came to admire songs with high levels of story settings, similar to the ones from Kinniku Shoujo Tai, and started wanting to create something like an album that would turn into a story – that was the beginning of KagePro.
He said, “It’s interesting that there are lots of phrases about things you can do with your eyes.” Like, “Averting one’s eyes is Hikikomori-ish, concealing one’s eyes means that kind of stuff.” (“That kind of stuff”, you say!? This is just the kind of specific term I wanted~)
It seems that the plot of back then is still in his computer. “The Medusa is a shut-in”, and things like that.
Jin-san is still burdened with the curse from when he was 19 years old www
He also talked about how his computer fell from the second floor when he was moving www and about he wound up naming it Frederica www
Q&A corner. It was a corner where he received questions from people that he’d randomly point at after they raised their hands. The contents of all questions were amazing...
Someone who’d been an Asahiner for over 7 years said something along the lines of being really happy that there was a song about Hiyori-chan, and Jin-san commented that Hiyori-chan is a character with an extremely firm notion of self, so he had wanted to release it sooner but it seems he hadn’t been able to. That’s because, back when the Mekakushi-dan members were still fretting and saying stuff like “oh, my dirty”, if Hiyori-chan had been there with her “Move forward! There’s no mistake that tomorrow will be a much more wonderful day~”, she would cut them off with a single stroke.
It seems she’ll have a lot of screen time from now on. And it looks like rather than Jin-san writing the part of the lyrics that goes “being greedy is just fine”, it felt more like Hiyori-chan was “making him write it”. Hiyori-chan is awesome.
Someone asked Jin-san, “At what time do you think you became an adult?” and he answered that, in the past, he would think of himself as an Onii-chan when looking at children, but now he thinks he’s an Oji-san. That he was paying taxes, laying out a path and keeping it clean www. He said he “ended up becoming an adult when creating Lost Day Hour”; he could see his friends everyday when he was a child, but it seems there’s no such thing after growing up, and he’d find himself thinking, “I wanna give my friends a call”.
Imaginary Reload is 274BPM, and apparently that’s the most in all songs he’s made so far. Incredible. By the way, the maximum for BPM is 300.
It seems Jin-san also likes Remind Blue. Even though he had said, “I’ll make this one and then I won’t write songs about summer anymore!”, he made Wasurete Shimatta Natsu no Owari ni right after that www. His 28th summer song...
Questioner: Even though I’d never budged from Shintarou until now, I ended up coming to like Ayano-chan the most after listening to Additional Memory. Jin-san: It seems a derby happened there. Is this a horse race or what www
Additional Memory is a bit of an unique song even for MekaRelo. He said, “I’m sorry... for bringing about a song that falls down with a hard thud immediately after saying that ‘tomorrow will be an even more wonderful day~’ with My Funny Weekend.” Like, “She dies all by herself...” He also said that what he was going to discuss from that point on were spoilers.
Shintarou’s snake is... The snakes exchange the abilities for lives... Then, lives are their,,,...???
He was like, “Please don’t spread this on Twitter and the like~”.
Remind Blue. This song was supposed to be Shintarou-san’s, but the figures of everyone overlapped in it, and it feels like each of them is being nostalgic in their own spot. The lyrics go, “together with the me of yesterday”, so Kano-kun and Seto-kun were also in it... is what Jin-san said. The way of talking is masculine. So it felt like it turned into everyone’s Remind Blue. Jin-san did say that, to him, friends are people who think the same.
Jin-san had Saiyuki-san draw the manga extra from MekaRelo A, and it seems it went like this: “Is it all right this way?” “It is.” “Is Kido-san okay like that?” “She’s exactly like that.” “The Kido-san that Saiyuki-san draws is really cool!” Jin-san said with great admiration.
Speaking of which, it seems that there’s already a conception of the Mekakushi-dan as adults in Jin-san’s mind and he’s decided things such as, “This person will be like that” and “Their occupation will be this”.
Kido-san will run an orphanage; taking over the will of that orphanage is very much like her. Hibiya-kun will be an archeologist. There are legends about Medusa all over the world, so he’ll be researching that.
He talked about how an adult Kido-san appeared in the MV of Shissou Word after he commissioned it to Sidu-san... something like that. It looks like he’s thinking along the lines of... “this person and this person will get married” as well. But Jin-san also said, “Shintarou’s wife will be Haruka-san (laughs)”. Apparently, these Jin-san’s are on a peerless inner fight inside him, and the Jin-san who wins will have his scenario come to life.
Haruka-san is KagePro’s main heroine www
Jin-san asked the audience, “Do you want to see the children of the Mekakushi-dan?” (I do.) “I wanna write novels,” he said. He was like, “I wanna introduce new characters!”
A parallel universe (one of those that are trendy nowadays?) called “Kagerou Quest” might happen www
Alternatively, it might be set in outer space, and it’ll be like a Martian version of the Mekakushi-dan fighting? Something along those lines? (Martian Mekaushi-dan!?!?)
There was a break of about 10 minutes. In that meantime, we lined up for the sale of goods, ate pancakes, etc...
The latter half of the live started.
My Funny Weeked. Jin-san seems to think that this one is the most last episode-like song. He said something like, “It’s my first time playing it live, so if I make any mistakes, pretend you didn’t notice~” and began playing. There was clapping from the audience seats as if to cheer on him, and he stopped playing right before the hook for an instant, but soon resumed it. After he finished singing, he asked, “See, there were no mistakes, right~?” (lol)
During the play-and-talk part, Jin-san drank water because he was out of options, since he had left the Shissou Word drink that he was having at the beginning somewhere, but he heard someone say from the seats, “The Never-Lost Word has been lost” and replied with, “You say some clever things www”.
Jin-san mentioned that he “was bad at conversing”, but I enjoyed his talk.
Big lotery. I ordered food and drinks and received an application coupon with the second item. The prizes were a set of guitar picks, a set of can badges, a volume of Mekakucity Talkers, a poster of MekaRelo (with Jin-san’s signature), a set of ticket holders and cards that came with the novels as appendix, which Jin-san claimed to have turned his house upside-down in order to bring over, and Jin-san’s own CDs (of Mekakucity~) and guitar effector (he apparently recorded Imaginary Reload with it, and its name is Medusa too). To the people who were sorted, congratulations~!
It seems Jin-san has only told about a part of KagePro until now, and he hasn’t yet talked about the extent of the loops.
When he was a child, he used to think, “I don’t want the new semester to start. It’d be good if summer didn’t end.” but an endless summer is somewhat disturbing, just like the two people living together in the last volume... of the novel.
Wasurete Shimatta Natsu no Owari ni. It seems the last chapter of KagePro closed with fireworks. That’s because, in the past, when Jin-san lived in Hokkaidou, there was a huge fireworks festival, and he thought back then, “Summer is over, huh”. He was like, “But how will I bring up fireworks when the story led up to the school’s underground, a place that has nothing to do with it!?” (lol)
ENCORE!!!
From a wing of the stage, Jin-san got his face out and peeked through (?) from within the curtains with a glance. He’s kinda cute despite being an adult man...
It seems he was being considerate towards us and saying, “It’s late into the night and there are people here who have to go home...” He then played Imaginary Reload (but just the short version of it). And in the end, he was like, “I do want to do it after all!” He sang Remind Blue.
He bid his goodbyes with waving hands~!
Jin-san, you’ve granted me really fun and good memories tonight. You’re indeed by yourself when you’re making music and writing novels... you’ve also gone through hard times. Tonight was super enjoyable, and even though it was a play-and-talk live, you up and said that you were sweating bullets www
“Please let me perform live again,” he said to us.
It was a tremendously fun night. Good job, and thank you very much.

Kagerou Project Analysis: Hibiya (& Hiyori) Encountering Momo Kisaragi Before “the Daze”
[ How, When, Where, & Why do Hibiya (& Hiyori) encounter Momo before the Kagerou Daze song happens ? ] [ also: The Daze itself. ]
( continued from here ! )
Friendly reminder the official order of the Routes / timelines goes, like so:
Music Route -> Manga Route -> Novels Route [as of 2014] and/or MCA Route MCA: ‘closest to the latter’ (but now we may have more Routes coming so .....)
Music Route: (keeping in mind what’s been recapped so far from previous posts!) - Momo Kisaragi hasn’t even been created at the time Kagerou Days was. - Kagerou Days happens. - Hibiya wakes up inside the Daze. - “What time is it now?” - Repeat (two verses/choruses/loops) - Third loop: - “Ah!” “Yume [dream]”? - Repeat final time; Hibiya switches ? the timelines. - Momo Kisaragi does not yet exist in the real world (our world). - Momo Kisaragi is later created / designed by Wannyanpuu. - Wannyanpuu: possibly contributed to inspirations for the storyline (especially re: Hiyori Asahina’s design / concept.) - Wannyanpuu’s Hibiya: has phone. (phone: has time) - Jin’s Hibiya, still: “what time is it now?” [ all Routes after ] [ Hibiya: /no phone ( until possibly novel 8′s end ) ] [ Hiyori: /has phone ] [ Ayano: doesn’t even bother mentioning ‘the phone’ ]
Manga Route: - Shintaro & Momo encounter Hibiya & Hiyori very very early on. - The entire course of the Routes changes almost immediately. - Hibiya: “the boy who doesn’t have a wish” [to “save the girl” (yet)] - Saeru - Hibiya & Hiyori don’t know about “The Park”
- The Park: the initial spot where the Kagerou Daze first begins / traps them.
- Momo: tells them about “The Park”. (MOMO NO) (MOMO STOP) - Hibiya & Hiyori: encounter truck. - Hibiya & Hiyori: dies / encounters Daze? - Hibiya (& Hiyori, but not shown until later on): revives (with Snakes ? ?? ) - Saeru (Snake of Clearing Eyes) forms in Hibiya sometime before - Hibiya meets (Manga Route) Ayano. - Hibiya meets Ayano at “The Park”, while trying to remember what happened to him & Hiyori. - Hibiya can’t recall everything that happened to him. - Hibiya notably glances towards the swingset [prominent in Wannyanpuu’s Kagerou Days and indirectly seen in MCA.] [Hibiya & Hiyori often sit there having heart-to-hearts before the Daze happens.] - Ayano: tells Hibiya about Azami’s past. - Saeru: [ possibly: hearing all of this. ] - Hibiya later winds up in the care of Momo & Shintaro as they all try to search for Hiyori. - In between, them all encountering various members of the Dan, Konoha (Hibiya encounters Konoha), etc. [ will come back to Konoha later ] - Saeru: possessed Hibiya at some point before meeting Ayano. - everything else: happens - Hiyori: [seemingly] has Focusing Eyes. - Hiyori: hasn’t had an “Otsukimi Recital” type solo encounter with Momo. - Hiyori: will probably fail no matter what she does. - it can only be Hibiya [ ?? ?? ? ] - Hibiya: “i’m sorry” - to Hiyori - Hibiya: dead. (no thanks Saeru) - Konoha: also dead, trying to save Hibiya. (again no thanks Saeru) - Saeru: duped everyone into thinking Hibiya had Focusing Eyes. - (ok but what if ..... Saeru’s still duping everyone .....) - - - - HOW WOULD (COULD?) HIBIYA REVIVE WITHOUT THE SNAKE OF FOCUSING EYES ??? - IS IT (HIM REVIVING) JUST BECAUSE OF SAERU ??? - IS IT BECAUSE OF ANYTHING ELSE ????? ??? - HOW LONG WAS MANGA ROUTE SAERU THERE FOR ??? - SAERU: “FROM THE VERY BEGINNING” - DIRECT QUOTE FROM SAERU - - - IS IT POSSIBLE FOR TWO SAERUS TO BE POSSESSING HIBIYA AT ONCE ????? - - Manga Route’s New Form Saeru (literally the most recent chapter as of the initial writing of this post):  “ Hello  ! ”
Novels Route: - Momo Kisaragi exists design-wise and “in real life”-wise (our world), but ..... - Hibiya & Hiyori do not encounter her before The Daze. - Hibiya & Hiyori wake up inside The Daze. - Hibiya has various monologues while inside The Daze, Hiyori does too (to Hibiya). - some monologues may be happening in alternative timelines / spoken to a different character (Hibiya -> Ayano in the Daze from here appears in MCA 04) (still curious about another one exactly [I’ll get back to later]). - Hibiya escapes The Daze / revives. [w/Focusing Eyes] - Hibiya meets Momo. - Otsukimi Recital: later happens. - Hibiya drops Momo’s “oba-san” (auntie/old hag etc.) and “Aun” cheeky rudeness from him. - Hibiya -> Momo: “Momo”. (no honorifics.) [ Momo & Hibiya have become closer ! ? Congratulations, “Momo” & Hibiya-kun! ] [ .... at the very, very least, he’s a bit more polite now. ] (... there’s some other fun things in between Hibiya meeting Momo and that) (I’ll come back to those in a later mini analysis!) MCA Route: - starts off very similar to Novels Route re: Hibi+Hiyo’s weirder dynamic. - Kisaragi Attention (Episode 02) happens - Kisaragi Attention in Music Route: Momo meeting Mekakushi Trio + Mary only. - ‘Kisaragi Attention’ here: Momo meeting Hibiya. only - (Momo would later meet MekaTrio+Mary in Mekakushi Code ep 03 instead.) - Hibiya: still calling her oba-san - Momo: let this kind onee-san show you the way! [or: I’M NOT OLD] [ ^ this: happens only once in all forms of the canon iirc. ] - Hibiya: NO WAY OBA-SAN -- - Momo: attracts the crowds with her Eyes. - Momo & Hibiya: “shit” - Momo & Hibiya: RUNS [cue Kisaragi Attention playing] - Hibiya: gets overrun by crowds in between, escapes - Momo: doesn’t get any chance to tell Hibiya about “THE PARK”. (... would she have?) - Momo: doesn’t get to even meet Hiyori, only Hibiya. - Momo: doesn’t even make it to the Department store she wanted to go to. ( more on that recurring theme later too ) - Momo: SIGHS - everything else: happens - (including Otsukimi Recital towards end of anime) [ MCA 04 ] (compare: this dumb old amv I made once) [i’m sorry] ( because screencapping everything would take way too long, ok ;; ) ( but it has most Daze scenes in it while trying to line them up with Wannyanpuu’s version thematic wise ) - Hibiya & Hiyori: [ inside the Daze. waking up ] - Hibiya: /NO PHONE (IN ANY OF THEM) - Hiyori: /has phone - Hibiya: [ probably thinking it’s like a “dream” / “yume?” ] - Repeat four or so Daze loops, getting progressively worse each time. - Hiyori in between: saying things Hibiya can’t hear while smiling / crying - Hiyori: (”i’m sorry”?) (”I love you”?) - possible - Hibiya: [ final loop happens ] - Hibiya: SCREW YOU CAT “Serves you right !!” - (Cat in Novels timeline: Kano interference.) (Cat anywhere else: ???? ??) - (Kano interference: by means of Saeru forcing him.) - Hibiya: SWITCHES THE TIMELINES. - Hibiya: receives the Snake of Focusing Eyes from the Daze and revives. - everything else: happens [ considering new Routes incoming ] [ MCA: also Reset ? (maybe / likely ) ]
BONUS (from Kisaragi Attention, Ep 02:

( ^ listen. I am not the one writing this series. It’s doing it on its own.) ( Friendly reminder: Hibiya & Momo - closer in age than not ) ( ok but seriously it’s more like Hibiya: just entering junior high school as of Mekakucity Talkers; with conflicting age in canon [still closer to his birthday during loops [August 15th]; Hibiya’s birthday: November 4th]. Momo: just leaving/left junior high school as of MCA, but also with conflicting age. taking supplementary classes; hasn’t yet taken re-do exams. - She SHOULD be closer to ‘15′ by this point of the timeline. - her birthday is literally right before the Japanese school year begins. February 14th -> April [school year begins] -> August 15th [loops / timelines] -> March [school year ends] - MCA Kenjirou too (I realized): “if you [Momo] fail these [supplementary classes] you’ll go back to being a first year [in high school]!” - Kenjirou / as Saeru: manipulating the entire freaking city. INCLUDING MOMO’S SCHOOL. INCLUDING MOMO (?) - loops: happening (probably?: screwing up even more timing re: conflicting ages) - ... friendly reminder Hibiya has another birthday only a few months after escaping loops. then he’s taking junior high school entrance exams ?. ) - Momo: still has to wait until her next birthday (February 14th) to age another year regardless. - closer than not ? - look I’m just saying - - anyway look I seriously doubt Jin would intend for a serious relationship at all at this stage ok at most it’s friendship / fluff / developing - even the anthologies imply this with older!HibiMomo comics / manga - Wannyanpuu and Sidu (Kagepro’s official artists) have contributed to various official anthologies too - Jin certainly approves of the materials or they wouldn’t be published - literally ..... - my opinion aside, literally. - this is mainly for analysis ok. i am not writing this series.
Anyway all that aside: - MCA screencap above:
HIBIYA SWITCHED HANDS WITH MOMO TO RUN IN FRONT OF HER.
[ MANGA ROUTE QUICK RECAP: ] Hiyori to Momo: “i’ll walk in front” Momo to Hiyori: “wow” “it’s like you’re always protecting me .....”
“ There is no such thing as coincidence in this world, there is only Hitsuzen [the inevitable]. ” ( ^ oh hi CLAMP, Cardcaptor Sakura & Tsubasa’s Clow Reed & Yuuko Ichihara ) ( JIN, WANNYANPUU, SIDU, ETC. PLANNED ALL OF THIS. ) ( or at least most of this ) ( storyboarding wise ) ( where even is all of this going ?! )
[ ..... ok a short MCA summary follows ]
Tumblr media
( ^ loop 1. NO PHONE. only clock [right; top] ) (still) (”what time is it now?” - KageDaze official song lyrics, Hibiya’s POV)
Tumblr media
( ^ oh hi swings ) (looking very ominous with Daze colors imagery.) ( friendly reminder: even if the animation was weird in many ... many parts of MCA ) ( literally all of this is still storyboarded. )
Tumblr media
( ^ waking up. loop 2 / in between loops)
Tumblr media
( ^ NO PHONE [only clock] )
Tumblr media
( ^ oh hi “The Park” Momo tells them about. ) [ she tells in Manga Route only that is ] ( looking ... even more extremely ominous ) ( Hibiya’s awareness ... growing ..... ) ( among other thematic parallels: sky, wires, birds, stop signs, blood, etc. ) ( adding poles, etc. ) ( birds / crows: also in Wannyanpuu’s music video [inside the clocks] )
Tumblr media
( ^ [silently saying something] ) (^ “I’m sorry” / “I love you” ?) (note her tears.)
Tumblr media
( ^ red red red sky ) ( ^ Hibiya waking up, frantically looking around [as if to check it was a dream])
Tumblr media
( ^ RUNNING ) ( ^ NO PHONE [only clock] )
Tumblr media
( [silently speaking] ) ( “ I’m sorry ” ? etc.) (tears flying.)
Tumblr media
( ^ final loop ) ( ^ OH NO ) ( ^ waking up. )
Tumblr media
( ^ Hibiya: “.......” )
Tumblr media
( ^ clock ) ( but still not phone ) ( that he still wants in some Routes )
Tumblr media
( ^ no phone ) ( Hibiya: closes door slowly. )
Tumblr media
( ^ SWINGS / THE PARK ) ( shit )
Tumblr media
( ^ TIMELINE SWITCH ) ( this time it’s me not you - Hibiya probably )
Tumblr media
( ^ “SCREW YOU CAT!!!” ) I mean ( “Serves you right!” ) (lit: “look at your own failure / how much of a failure you are” “look at your pitiful self after failing so hard” etc. [to Cat]) alternatively: “take that!” “look at the state of things” etc. etc.
MCA Hibiya: dead MCA Hibiya: receives the Snake of Focusing Eyes and revives MCA everything else: happens Manga Route 2: happens New Form Saeru even after like 6+ YEARS OF THIS: happens
( JIN )
[ ... also: re Honorifics and progressions of ] ( basically it’s like : last names: can be more polite; first names without knowing: rude last or first names used intentionally rudely: rude last names with -san: very polite; formal; etc. first names with -san: more polite than not with -san etc. last names with -kun, -chan, etc.: a bit more informal, but still some politeness ? -san in general: polite, distance; -kun, -chan, etc: more friendly/informal -kun: often for boys (but can also be used for younger girls, such as underclassmen / etc.) -chan: often for girls (but can also be used for younger boys, kids, as a cutesy honorific; etc.) progression to first names, no honorifics: typically means - becoming closer; can be rude if not ) ( it’s kind of hard to explain um ..... ) ( if you’ve ever watched the Digimon Adventures series ? ) [ oh hi another of my main fandoms since long before Kagepro ] ( ... I don’t know how many of you have, but this is a very good example video ) ( if you watch it, note how they progress from last names -> first names ! ) (literally they go through like 5-10 honorifics changes) ( also: rudeness [in between] -> familiarity/closeness ) (note: Hibiya also calls Hiyori by her first name and first name only.) (initially: can be rude. Hibiya is often cheeky/rude. Hiyori even notes this in Manga Route - [he’s from the countryside so he doesn’t have / know manners] etc.) (after: _____ ? ?? ) ( also [Digimon spoilers below]: the canon pairing at the end of 02 [Sorato; Yamato x Sora] also becomes canon through honorifics changing and progression all throughout the first and second series. It was a real surprise to most of the Western / American fanbase at the time because literally all of this gets lost in translation [and very bad, fully Americanized dubs]. ) People there to this day still tend to be confused by it because of things consistently lost in translation and their lack of initial interactions otherwise. [ there are multiple honorifics issues within Kagepro in general too. ] [ literally there’s a reason why they’re used as plot points multiple times ] ( ..... don’t say I didn’t warn you. )

what i saw in ebisu, roppongi, and ginza
As usual, I made a tentative plan earlier in the week for my gallery and museum hopping, but as always things change.  After seeing a number of posts on Thursday night about the 10th Yebisu International Festival for Art and Alternative Visions, I decided that would be my starting point since the theme was "Mapping the Invisible" where there could be some potential discoveries.  The main venue is the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum in Ebisu and I began to work my way through the works which were mostly video installations.  Given that I had arrived at the museum just shortly after opening, I had plenty of time and decided to try and give each work my fullest attention.  After almost two hours of wandering through the three floors of works, here are a handful that stick in my mind.
Gabriel Herrera Torres' "How to Reach God Thru Proper Exercise" single channel video offered a strange yet absorbing experience centered around a Polish recreation centre, dream transference, and color blindness.
The Cuttingly Fairy Photographs and Related Materials was by far the most fascinating work in the exhibition.  I had not known about these photographs and the story behind them.  From the Museum of Hoaxes website.
"In 1920 a series of photos of fairies captured the attention of the world. The photos had been taken by two young girls, the cousins Frances Griffith and Elsie Wright, while playing in the garden of Elsie's Cottingley village home. Photographic experts examined the pictures and declared them genuine. Spiritualists promoted them as proof of the existence of supernatural creatures, and despite criticism by skeptics, the pictures became among the most widely recognized photos in the world. It was only decades later, in the late 1970s, that the photos were definitively debunked."
The exhibition consisted of the five photographs along with various ephemera relating to those photographs, other fairy photographs, and research that debunked the authenticity of those photographs.  As it turns out, the Cottingley fairies in the photographs were cut outs from an illustration book.  Of the five photographs on exhibit, four of the photographs visibly included these cut outs.  But the fifth one "Fairies and Their Sun-bath" was much more intriguing and ambiguous and which Frances insisted as genuine.
This analogue photographic deception that took place almost 100 years ago resonates with me because of the fervour that it caused during that time and how the images were widely accepted as genuine and that it took decades to discover the true nature of the images.  Our current digital technologies offer the same dilemma in terms of trying determine what is genuine and what is altered.  A century from now, or sooner, will we see the images from this period more clearly for what is genuine and what is altered?
Mako Idemitsu's "At Yukigaya 2" single channel video was interesting for me in terms of materiality.  The work utilised high contrast film to provide stark contrast and abstraction to images from nature.
Natsumi Aoyagi's "Incubation Diary" installation gave me the opportunity to contemplate the  presentation of research-based work and documentation.
I have mixed feelings about the installation.  I do like the specimens or materials enclosed in an acrylic case, but I also find it inaccessible for the viewing audience.  The non-ordered display of the acrylic boxes felt like a good way to move the viewer around the space.  On the other hand, having the installation displayed with the back side of a constructed wall in all its unfinished glory was confusing to me.  Seeing this installation made me think that I have to look more at the display strategies that Mark Dion and Fred Wilson have employed in their work.
The final work from the 10th Yebisu International Festival for Art and Alternative Visions that I wanted to mention was a collaborative research project by Natacha Nisic and Ken Daimaru into "itako" who are blind women who became spiritual mediums through apprenticeship.  This video installation centres on the last itako, Take-san and her stories.  More of a documentary to me, I found it deeply fascinating to discover spiritual mediums in a Japanese context.  The works sits well next to my current fascination with the spirits and the after life.
From the 10th Yebisu International Festival for Art and Alternative Visions, I headed over to the National Art Centre Tokyo to see the 16th New Artist Unit exhibition and the DOMANI exhibition.  I headed into the 16th New Artist Unit (also known as NAU21) exhibition first and I was struck by the size of the exhibition space and the size of the works in this exhibition.  Over fifty artists displayed their works in this exhibition with most artists having a pair of works.  As with these larger exhibitions, there is a bit of something for everyone.  I found a handful of works to be interesting and lingered over those for a bit although most did not relate to my studio practice.  My favourite piece in that regards would be Satoko Shimokawara's paper dress which was pocked with seemingly thousands of holes obsessively made by burning through the material.
From the NAU21 exhibition, I headed over to the DOMANI exhibition which I have not seen for a couple of years.  Keith Mori's architectural drawings made by stretching thread and gluing them directly to paper, canvas, or the wall was the highlight of the exhibition for me.  I had a chance to take photographs, but it does not do the work justice.  The smaller works were what drew me in and here is one of the pieces that was in the exhibition.
Michiko Nakatani's negative relief plaster sculptures in the shape of "paintings" filled with layered images of crows or ravens that are brought to life by filling in the negative space with different transparencies of dyed resin were an absolute feast for the eyes.  Her work had me thinking about how one can and should continue to look for new ways to apply tried and true mediums.
I spent a good amount of time taking in the work by both these artists because I realised that photographing them would not give me a sense of what these works transmitted.  If you are in Tokyo, I recommend stopping by to see the exhibition if only for these two artists.
From the National Art Centre Tokyo, I headed to another DOMANI-themed exhibition at the Hibiya Library & Museum entitles "Artists Meets Books" with another group of Japanese artists who have participated in the Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists.  It is always good to see the gorgeous works of Aiko Miyanaga.
Masahiro Hasunuma's multiple Kinora works were a pleasant discovery in terms of forms for an artist books.  The Kinora is an predecessor to the motion picture projector in which hundreds of pages are animated by turning them against small steel plate.  The best thing about it was discovering a Kinora about Ogijima which was the island in the Setouchi Inland Sea where I participated in the 2013 Setouchi Triennale.  In the image below, you can see a picture of the Meon ferry that takes you to and from the island and Takamatsu port.
I finished my long day of gallery and museum hopping in Ginza.  Tomo Hirai's "Pottery Fragments and Reminiscences" at the LIXIL Gallery had me thinking back to my Memory Walks eggshell drawings and thinking about future possibilities.
From a few other stops which included Gallery Natsuka and the Tokyo Institute of Photography 72Gallery, I finished up the day at the Okuno Buildings.  As the elevator was being used for a delivery, I ambled my way up the stairs and took a leisurely peek around each floor.  On the fourth floor, this postcard announcement lured me into Gallery 403.
In the gallery, I found a series of photographs by Jun Sato whom creates patterned and repeating models based on geometric forms and then photographs them to create works like you see in the above left.  As it turns out, the glass object on the right is by Yumiko Kimura who also uses numerical sequences like the Fibonacci sequence and other geometric and mathematic patterns to create her works.  They are a couple who are based in France and have been working for years in this field of geometric art.  I had a chance to speak with both of them and learn more about MADI community in Europe.  What is Madi art?  From Wikipedia,
"Madí (or MADI) is an international abstract (or concrete) art movement initiated in Buenos Aires in 1946 by the Hungarian-Argentinian artist and poet Gyula Kosice, and the Uruguayans Carmelo Arden Quin and Rhod Rothfuss.
The movement focuses on creating concrete art (i.e., non-representational geometric abstraction) and encompasses all branches of art (the plastic and pictorial arts, music, literature, theater, architecture, dance, etc.). The artists in the Madí movement consider the concrete, physical reality of the art medium and play with the traditional conventions of Western art (for instance, by creating works on irregularly-shaped canvases). Artwork of Madí movement appeared in eight issues of its magazine, Arte Madí Universal, published between 1947 and 1954."
There is currently an exhibition of Madi artists in Kanazawa and Yumiko Kimura had a copy of the catalog and the work in the exhibition was gorgeous.  I will not make it up to Kanazawa in time to see the exhibition, but I am hoping that Yumiko Kimura can find me a copy of the digital version and I will share some works at the time.
My final stop was Gallery Camellia to see the abstract paintings by Satoshi Yoshida who was in the gallery and we had a good conversation about making daily drawings, John Zurier, Laura Owens, Ingrid Calame, and Thomas Nozkowski.  I am feeling a bit of an itch to getting back to painting or at least more brush-based work which might be evident in my current batch of Daily Drawings.
A long but fruitful day of gallery and museum hopping in which I managed to cover quite a range of works and ideas.  My next planned day of gallery hopping is next Thursday although I do not expect it to be as intensive as this past Friday.  I am hoping to see one or two exhibitions here and there before next Thursday.
