thinking about a majorwood hadestown au again............ (but like different and not actually hadestown at all sorry)

no actually i'm going to explain it i've decided

so in this case orpheus and eurydice are scott/jimmy (not sure who's who, but probably jimmy = eurydice because. y'know. dying.) and hades and persephone are ren/martyn (i am sure about this one. ren's hades, martyn's a combo of persephone and hermes) right?

scott loses jimmy to something easily avoidable on the eve of their wedding. something that shouldn't have happened. so he finds martyn, up on the surface, and begs him to reason with the king of the underworld. martyn says, reluctantly, that he'll try, but ren is firm. rules are rules. jimmy stays dead.

scott's not willing to give up. he secretly follows martyn back down to hades. he'll bring jimmy back by force if he has to (just realized this has parallels to wc!scott. awesome.) martyn finds him before they get there though, because he's not dumb scott.

when they reach the entrance to the underworld, martyn hesitates. he doesn't want to go back. he doesn't like being the hand of the king, but it's all he knows. he doesn't know how to be anything else.

scott takes his hand. they walk into the underworld side by side, to face lovers they no longer know.

he finds jimmy, who made it to elysium. he's living his happy afterlife forever, in a flower field with a man with scott's blue hair and his smile and his eyes. it's only an illusion, but he looks so happy. happier than scott's ever seen him look. he turns around, back into the darkness. he won't take that from jimmy. not now. not ever.

martyn tries sneaking scott out of hades over the river styx, but they're caught by ren, who refuses to let scott leave, and accuses martyn of betraying him. they get into an argument. scott could run. he doesn't. he stays.

and maybe it ends there. maybe scott is trapped. maybe martyn is trapped. maybe they both schemed too much, flew too close to the sun.

i think they got out. i think they're having a beach vacation, far far away. don't you?
