The word hermit is derived from the Greek 'erēmitēs' meaning "of the desert” relating to the place where hermits would often dwell. Whereas 'Hermetic' is derived from Hermes Trismegistus (a mythical figure somewhat like Lao Tzu) whose writings are the foundation of Hermeticism. His name means "Hermes thrice great" after Hermes who was the messenger of the Gods and who was the equivalent of the Egyptian god Thoth, hence... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hermetic: The Book of Thoth says about this card that "He is closely shrouded, as if to signify that the ultimate reason of things lies in a realm beyond manifestation and intellect."
