My coworkers think I'm crazy because I said I thought all the earthquakes I lived through in California (low magnitude, nothing serious) were cool and that I want to see a tornado (from a safe distance).
Assuming no serious injuries or major property damage:
#I've felt multiple small earthquakes and it's a life goal to see a tornado with my eyeballs#I'm sure if i had experienced a major one of these it would be a different answer#but that's not what i asked broskis

heyooo, haven't been able to check out 911 season 7 yet because of life stuff happening too much lol. did they set up any interesting plot lines this time?
here's what i've got for you
potentially delusional bisexual buck arc, but we say that every season
almost certainly a buck jealousy/disliking being replaced arc with eddie when eddie makes a new friend (which is what people think will lead to bisexual buck)
hen interim captain -> full captain perhaps? i think that's the direction we're headed, people keep complimenting her on her captaining
brief athena/bobby marriage worries but they fixed that real fast, though i would've actually liked to see the two of them genuinely struggle for a longer period of time
christopher diaz is a player. which. i don't know if its plot but it was funny
eddie is not over his dead wife divorcing him/dying, even though it's been 5 seasons
literally nothing has happened with maddie or chimney yet
the first three epsiodes were taken up with the cruise ship disaster (which i actually didn't find very interesting at all, and all three episodes are probably some of my least favourite of the show so far) so nothing much has been set up at all??
hen and karen adopting has not come back up yet, nor has chimney and maddie's wedding. eddie and buck's season 6 relationships are footnotes so far this season
#911#anon#talk#the show feels slightly different now its on abc but i cant pinpoint what it is#i just know that the vibe is slightly different and i like it less#to be fair other than the earthquake and tsunami i have never been big on the major disaster episodes#so hopefully its just part of that trend#911 spoilers

Boop!
I watched the new Twisters. Really good follow up for the first one. Also that make me think of a question. Have you ever seen something like a tornado or others natural destructive accident like that?
Personally for now I'm happy that no I have never seen that in real life.
Booooooooop!
I don't think I've ever seen twisters lmao. Should I watch it? What's the genre?
I live on the East Coast, and we get a lot of hurricanes! The worst one was hurricane fiona, we had now power for 4 days and couldn't leave our house!! It was awful, lmao!!
#but nothing major besides that#maybe some earthquakes here and there#but really small earthquakes#but im glad that you have never had to deal with a natural disaster#thanks for the ask tho#mysteriousboo answers

oh fuck i'll be participating in The Long Walk Home this year cos my jobs in the cbd
#its a disaster (earthquake primarily) preperation event#you leave work at 1 and then have to make your way home on foot#the way one would have to if a quake (as they often do) happens while youre at work#because it would take out major roads and leave the port#buses and trains unuseable#it'll take hours for me (its a 30 minute bus ride down the valley but it would be safer for me to take the hill route home)#i'd say 5-6 hours likely#worth it however. because these things happen and you DONT want to get caught out#its why i always carry a kit (little bit of food. nessecary meds and water. phone charger.)#just in case. ive seen what quakes can do. esp with what just happened in japan. no being unprepared.

I'm so angry i'm so so unbelievalby angry.
#you all likely have heard of the earthquake that has hit the kurdish region#it has also affected my relatives as one side of them all live in that region but theyre fine hamdulillah#what i'm angry about though people in the region have been saying there has not been enough state help at all#regions like maraş (the epicenter) adıyaman hatay they lack help still#people are still under rubble those that made out need accomodation for this cold winter#the region received lots of snow like the day or two before the earthquake so it's really cold#a turkish minister made a press comferance saying they'll be blocking all aid and only letting aid come through#through the state managed disaster & emergency management#but they have in the past and in this current disaster have proven unrealiable god i'm so so angry#and so are all the people theyre all enraged. the comments under the tweet where the announcement was posted are all angry people#but ofc anything linked to the turkish state is unreliable so is AFAD#i'm so angry i cant do more than donate money to reliable places i feel so helpless#the ministry of immigration has said they'll be providing translations in 7 languages in the affected region#AND IT DOES NOT INCLUDE KURDISH WHICH IS WHAT THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY IN THE REGION SPEAKS#AND THERE ARE MANY WHO NEED TRANSLATIONS BC THEY DONT KNOW ANY TURKISH#my god my god even during disasters their so called own citizens are being neglected. even during disasters racism dictates fate#nesi rants

We need to stop normalizing war and calamity with specific countries and regions. When we do that it causes massive lack of care from people outside of these circles because they “expect” violence and suffering. When we think about countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Middle Eastern and African countries because of the association with war, death, and poverty people in the west do not jump to help. It’s intolerance and apathy at its core. Remember this when you watch the news. None of this is normal. Imagine if this was your family.
#like no one really associates the US with war on part with our media but the image we project#being the biggest English majority speaking country we can get our news out quicker and because it’s western ppl will take it more seriously#i feel this way with associating Black people with the horrible things afflicted on us by everyone else as well#slavery hypersexuality and violence are commonly depicted with us so we’re devalued in the eyes of others#when brutality happens to us it’s to be expected#33000 people died. Syria was already in shambles how can they rebuild esp with sanctions on them#whose helping these people#this is a psychological explanation but of course the root cause is racism#also like people NONSTOP talked abt Ukraine (valid) but the entire Middle East has been like….got even prior to this earthquake

Either the 2004 Indonesian tsunami or the Tohoku earthquake. Which is weird because the former happened a few days before I was born, so I think the Tohoku earthquake was the first major news story I know for a fact I was there to witness, even if I had no idea what I was looking at.
even though she died two years before i was born, there were always tabloids in the grocery store about JonBenét Ramsey’s death and “new breaks in the case”. i would always stare at them and wonder who the pretty blonde girl was that died. surprisingly i didn’t know anything about 9/11 until grade school.
#in hindsight it shouldn't be surprising that the first major news story i remember was an earthquake#i was kind of a meteorology dork when i was a little kid#but holy FUCK that tsunami is scary in hindsight#there's something really disturbing about natural disasters caught on film between 1990-2012#the internet made it a lot easier to spread news about things like that#and you can kinda tell from a lot of the reactions to it that the sheer INTENSITY of some of these disasters shocked a lot of people
