What is a Metals Tube Rotameter?

Variable area flowmeters called metal tube rotameters are used to gauge the volumetric flow rates of gases and liquids. It consists of a float, typically made of stainless steel or PTFE, and a tapered tube, typically made of steel. There is a consistent differential pressure in the annular region. The float moves up and down through the tapered tube with regard to fluid flow. The float's vertical position, as shown by the scale, serves as a gauge for the instantaneous flow rate.
