Mahua flower tea from the Aadimahotsav that was held at Dillihaat. I was looking for these since sometime. So that's one thing ticked off the bucket list. Had delicious mahua achaar n jam and laddus a few years ago. I still have to click the Mahua trees in bloom at Shantivan and Rajesh Pilot Marg. Perhaps soon. Also need to taste the liquor. Mahuwa, Maul, Mahula, Honey tree, Buer tree are the common names for Madhuca longifolia. Mahua is a prominent tree in the tropical mixed deciduous forests of Chhattisgarh. The tree has great significance, both economically and culturally and the tribal communities conserve them as guardians. The gorgeous sweet, fleshy flowers are eaten fresh or dried, powdered & cooked with flour, used as a sweetener or fermented to make alcohol. The fleshy outer coat of the fruit is used as a vegetable & is also used to make syrup for medicinal purposes. I washed and munched on 1-2 dried ones & they tasted devine. The tea tastes delicious and refreshing. I didn't add any sweetener to it. The natural sweetness is enough. Perhaps I'll experiment with the rest of the flowers or maybe share. This product is from Bastar. Collected and sold under Van Dhan Yojna by Bastar food firm. Their imli candy is yum too.
