That Harry Potter with Gordon Ramsay fanfic is called Harry Potter and the Lack of Lamb Sauce, on AO3, and it actually may unironically be my favourite HP fic that I've read! XD

The author took what should be a crack concept, and actually made a good story out of it! There's character development and OCs that actually have three-dimensional personalities that make you care about them. And, of course, you've gotta have a cooking competition in a fic with Gordon Ramsay in it: introducing MagicChef Junior! (Puns!) XD

Also, the story gets kinda dark as it gets into the Deathly Hallows plot, and dives into Voldemort and his follower's completely screwed up ideologies, with some really awful human beings in their mix (and I mean awful, you can't wait for their comeuppance), both canon and original.

So yeah, I couldn't put it down until I finished it! XD

MagicChef Junior, lmao, that's a really good pun!! I absolutely love crack taken seriously and well developed OCs, so that sounds great.

I haven't ever read a HP book or fic, and thus I have no idea of the plot, but it's always cool to see stories tackling the original plotlines and adding onto them. Really happy you had fun with it :D

"Harry Potter and the Lack of Lamb Sauce" = HPATLOLS

Gordon Ramsey drops into Hogwarts like a stone and makes ripples to match. The first ever MagicChef Junior competition brings the top twelve kitchen-oriented students of Hogwarts together --- and not just in competition. All the while, outside of Hogwarts, the Death Eaters grow in power. Here, the story of HPATLOLS begins.

I don't know where to begin with my compliments for this fanfiction! Although I sadly can't capture the beauty of HPATLOLS in this one review, I hope I can share enough of it to convince you to read it.

It's funny to say, but HPATLOLS feels the most like a true Harry Potter book out of any fanfiction I've read. There's something about the style and the characterizations that gives it the nostalgic charm of the OG Harry Potter novels. The characterizations are impeccable, the language and dialogue are distinct --- even the sentence syntax is familiar. This familiar base keeps you grounded even as imagitory launches from new character to new plot.

The characters are clearly the gems of HPATLOLS. Instead of writing a story and its characters, imagitory wrote a cast of characters and their stories, weaving all their narrative threads into a beautiful tapestry of a story. Tapestry is no exaggeration --- I'd have to go back and count, but there are at least 30 perspectives represented throughout the story. Imagitory neglects none of them, painting each of them a beautiful, original narrative as they come. Additionally, lots of the OCs imagitory write in bring a diversity with them that the original Harry Potter books lack. The LGBTQ+ and POC representation is lovely to read.

Several extraneous compliments: (1) The AU plot supplements are ingenious and have lovely depth. HPATLOLS isn't dreary retelling of the last to books by any means. (2) I cried at least 5 times. Enough said.

Although the characters become the highlight of this fanfiction, the vast, almost entirely new cast and the casual omniscience with which imagitory switches between their perspectives is hard to get used to. Also, the story begins rather languidly in Harry's perspective during sixth year, which, although abridged, we know well.

This fanfiction is exactly what it sounds like... Almost. Gordon Ramsay and Hogwarts sounds like a complete joke. However, imagitory turns this perception around by complementing the well-known storyline with a lively, unique, diverse cast and the alternate perspectives they have of the Wizarding War.

Fanfic Writer Friday: Remember the MagicChef competition in Harry Potter and the Lack of Lamb Sauce? Say that your MCs get to participate/cook in that same competition, which one of them is most likely to compete and either get far or win? At least, hypothetically? I don't even know if any of your MCs is good at cooking and/or baking.

LOL, honestly, none of my MC's are that great at cooking...but I guess out of Carewyn, Jacob, Erik, Ana, Jackson, Bat, and Ru, I'd go with Jacob. Since he had to become the "man of the house" after his father Evan flew the coop and he's the most scientifically minded of my characters (and let's be honest, cooking/baking is kind of like edible chemistry!), Jacob is actually relatively comfortable in the kitchen, able to cook up a full English-style breakfast, make his own butterbeer from scratch, and even mix alcoholic drinks with little trouble. He's nowhere close to Jae in regards to cooking talent or anything, but any person he dates should be pretty happy if he were to make them a hand-cooked meal. Carewyn is able to bake decently too as long as she has a recipe in front of her, and Bat, Erik, Ana, and Jackson probably could hobble through if they had help and/or a specific recipe in front of them...but don't put Ru in front of a stove. Given that they grew up eating everything raw, they have no instincts when it comes to cooking food and so will likely burn anything you try to leave them in charge of simply out of lack of caring. (Sorry, Estrid -- you're in charge of making meals for the two of you. 😂 @thatravenpuffwitch)
