i'll try not to make this too long just because i am very bad at wording things and i dont usually share takes with characters because idk how people are gonna react

there are spoilers in this post btw so if you haven't read magical girl raising project jokers then don't look at this post

first off, prism cherry isn't one of my top favorite characters. i love her design, but unfortunately i like dark cutie, sorami nakano, uluru, tepsekemei, and 7753 a little bit more than her to make her one of my all time favorites.

secondly, i think she's completely wasted as a character, in my opinion at least. i feel like faking out her death and bringing her back like "hey guys look she's alive because pythie frederica saved her :)" ONLY to kill her off immediately after that was so annoying to me. her death probably was needed for deluge's development that you see in aces and queens and i can see that but god i will never not be salty about the way she just died. prism cherry could've sided with pythie had she lived and maybe had a bit more character development that way

but anyway that's how i feel. if anyone disagrees then that's ok! prism cherry is still cool and this is just me rambling about a silly character

One thing I'll never forget from Magical Girl Raising Project is that they introduced this super important character, Archfiend Pam.

She was a super powerful, well-renowned fighter who made a fighting school, Archfiend Cram School, that even trained the likes of Cranberry, the musician of the forest. Her school and students are a large portion of the lore of the magical kingdom in the books. She sounds tough and super important, right?

She got killed off in the 2nd book she appeared in and was dead for the rest of the series!!!! 😭

i forgot how top speed died. actually how most of them died. i only remember that snow white and this one cool girl that keeps to her herself were like the only ones to make it out. i just tried to look up cool girl’s name and i believe it was ripple. in the process of looking for that i saw tama and i was like oh my gosh girl i forgot abt you!!! now i’m like wait i think she made it out too. tama was so cute such a vibe she’s just there for the vibes….

You know what? I absolutely LOVE the way Fionna & Cake (the show) told us how important Simon Petrikov (the one we know) was. Let's check out the most important universes. As expected, there will be spoilers:

Farmworld is pretty obvious itself. Simon was able to prevent the bomb that would have brought the Lich, which is pretty impressive itself, but that didn't stop the Lich forever and Simon wasn't able to take care of Marceline or even contact Hunson Abadeer. Because of this, Marceline dedicated her whole life (literal centuries) to guard the crown knowing it was too dangerous. Eventually, she dies after Farmworld Finn accidentally activates the bomb. Simon's sacrifice was noble, but it only delayed something that was inevitable and Marceline didn't have the best life guarding her friend and father figure's corpse for centuries due to the crown

Simon doesn't have the purpose of sacrificing his own life in order to save Marceline and other people. Becoming Ice King again for Fionna and Cake was a way to abandon and sacrifice the life he regained thanks to Betty. No one has such purpose, it was just Farmworld Simon's choice and we can see the consequences of his absence even years after those events occurred and our boy Prismo had to fix things a bit

After that, the show presents us Winterworld and a version of Simon that managed to "conquer" the crown and seemed like the perfect outcome for everyone involved: Simon keeping his sanity without facing the consequences of not only using the crown but also being a magic user again to bring magic back to Fionna's world. Thing is MMS (Magic, Madness, and Sadness) applies to all magic users and it is unavoidable, all of them will show different degrees of those three characteristics. Winter King is no exception, he is still mad despite projecting most of his madness on PB. We can see this because he made an ice version of Marceline despite saying it would be unethical to do the same with Betty

Simon cannot be a magic user because otherwise he won't be the Simon we know (Remember the Tiny Manticore mentioning how Betty changed as well after becoming a magic user?). He knew this every time he needed to use the crown in order to protect Marceline and survive. He acknowledged it was the only way to do it despite knowing the long-term effects and being aware he also hurt Marcy. Simon was no coward, he probably was scared and knew no one could save him from the crown's madness, and still tried to be himself when he could

Probably the reason why Winter King lost his Marceline was because he wanted to have the crown's power to survive without facing the consequences of using it, maybe he overused the crown itself until Simon was completely gone, making him unable or too dangerous to take care of Marcy. Winter king lived in a bubble in which he thought he was completely sane (which is not even possible if you are a magic user) and everything, including himself, was perfect. He wants to believe he's Simon but that's not the case, Simon is far gone and deep down he knows it when he took the name "Winter King" and decided to make his kingdom instead of using his own name and trying to live as Simon Petrikov, not some king

And, of course... Vampworld

The perfect answer to the question "How important is our Simon Petrikov?"

A world in which Marceline was never raised by Simon, and Hunson was absent or didn't mind that his daughter was raised by the Vampire King. Marcy didn't become a vampire hunter and didn't help humans survive. This is because she was educated in a different way since she was very little, and keep in mind that Marceline was already thinking she was a monster because she couldn't comprehend why her mother couldn't be with her anymore. Vampire King just encouraged her to behave like an actual monster

Simon cared about Marcy and her education, seeing her as a scared little girl living in the end of the world, not a monster despite knowing she was different. Again, he admitted he was Marceline's father figure and raised her as his own. This is why Simon is scared and maybe even a bit sad when he watches Marcy acting in such a cruel way, and that's why he loses his shit and calls the Vampire King a bad dad, he couldn't stand seeing someone else encourage that behavior on Marceline

Simon's education wasn't the best, he had his own struggles due to the crown, but he did his best and that made a difference on Marceline's life, he even bothered to contact Hunson so she wouldn't be all by herself. It was a pity he didn't know that Hunson himself wasn't that good as a father but leaving Marcy all by herself would have been cruel

And yet, Simon himself couldn't see this despite living it. He was still trying to save Fionna's universe by becoming Ice King again. Why? He thought his purpose was to help others by sacrificing himself, that's what he learned with Marceline when he took care of her, this made him think that Simon Petrikov didn't matter, only Ice King because he's able to make Fionna's world magic again and could stop Scarab, fueling his identity loss

Most people cannot realize how important they are, even if they didn't lose their identity. Sometimes it is too hard to know how important we actually are or we tend to forget and re-learn it, and this is something the show remarks despite Simon helped Fionna save her universe. He didn't need Ice King, but that doesn't mean it is over and he learnt his lesson

It is a longer process because there are ideas or thoughts about ourselves that are hard to abandon or not to pay attention to in order to avoid repeating the same mistakes

God I hate it when people say that Magical Girls are too dark nowadays. Like, c'mon magical girls have been dark since the dawn of the genre.

You guys want an anime like Sailor Moon again and yet fail to realize that Sailor Moon itself is dark as fuck. Literally in the first finale of the show, all the Sailor guardians fucking die. Sure they're brought back to life but still.

Also, I get the hate towards the Madoka copycats. I get it. But most of these copycats aren't copycats. Daybreak Illusion, Yuki Yuna is a Hero, and Magical Girl Raising Project are all there stories. Except Magical Girl Site I guess.

Also Princess Tutu, Fresh Precure, and Heartcatch Precure are all pretty dark before Madoka Magica came to be. (Although Heartcatch was the inspiration for Madoka Magica)

You want more light hearted magical girls? Well, you won't get much because in every magical girl show you will get something dark. Even in western shows. For example, Lolirock, the main villian has probably killed multiple people during his reign. This includes Talia's and possibly Iris's parents.

Even the most light hearted of shows aren't safe from this. Except Magical Angel Creamy Mami. I haven't made it so far to the anime so it's probably a cute title.

Anyways, if you want a more cute magical girl story, then maybe make one your own. Do a webcomic, a small short series, or even just make OCs based on the ideas.

Why am I even ranting about this? Well, I remember seeing a post that says that Hirogaru Sky Precure was already (and I'm exaggerating a bit here) dead to them because of spoilers. Let's just say that the season was already getting into dark territory by that point.

I'm not going to name who that was (because I forgot) but dark Precure seasons already exist. The aforementioned Fresh and Heartcatch Pretty Cure are all considered the darkest seasons of Precure and they were successful. Especially Fresh, since that season basically saved the whole franchise.

Dark magical girl series are here to stay. They have been around for quite around now and they won't stop anytime soon. The only magical girl series that I want to see made fun of is Magical Girl Site. Anyways that's it. It's just a little rant I have about the magical girl fanbase.

I should do the same thing for the Vocaloid fanbase too because holy hell I hate the gatekeeping in that fandom.

Summary: Amid the skies of the Churning Mists, Aelita Tirasch witnesses a flood, and finds herself reflected in its waters.

“The little one must be Rielle, which would make the big one, Sid, right?”

Aelita watched Sidurgu’s face contort in annoyance, already weary of more magical nonsense.

“...Yes. I presume that would make you one of the “tiny beings” the dragon spoke of.”

A stony silence fell over the four of them as Sid seemed to be waiting for something. Something that Rielle seemed reticent to give to him.

“Rielle, say something to the moogle.” He’d tried so hard to be gentle, but Aelita could plainly see he was fighting an uphill battle. 

“Rielle.” Still nothing. “Rielle!” He raised his voice, maybe sharper than he'd intended, if the regret that flashed across his face was any indication. 

Aelita saw something in Rielle’s expression shift, something familiar. It warned her of the impending explosion, but not with anywhere near enough time to stop it from happening.

“...I'm sick of this charade.”

With those five words, a dam had finally burst inside Rielle. The cracks were there all along, invisible to the naked eye.

The emotion just poured out of her, in a way Aelita knew only too well. In each exclamation and intonation she heard a little more of herself on that fateful night, almost fifteen summers ago. Aelita had experienced firsthand that primal fear, that yawning sadness, that gnawing frustration. All the feelings that came with the knowledge that the person who looked after you might not be able to look after themselves, and that one day would likely be their last. 

Rielle just let Sid have it, and Aelita simply let the flood run its course. She took no joy in it, no sense of superiority, but she knew it was necessary if those two were going to stick together.

She watched as Sid floundered in the rising tide, struggling to come up with the response he thought Rielle might want to hear. But the raging current didn't care for his excuses. 

“And you!” Sid exclaimed, pointing at Aelita, “Say something, damn you!” He was desperate, thrashing about in search of a lifeline.

And yet, just as quickly as they'd come, the waters of Rielle’s rage subsided, leaving her once again reluctant to speak. The moogle that had stood out of the way of Rielle's wrath took it upon himself to occupy the silence, charging both Sid and Aelita with some thinly veiled excuse to do chores.

Aelita knew the errands could wait, though, and there was someone who couldn't. She let Sid start off on his search for the herb that Moggie had sent them after, and then when he was far enough out of sight, she gingerly approached Rielle.

“Rielle, I…” She knelt down to Rielle's level, not wanting to lord her years of experience over the girl. “I can't say I know exactly what you're feelin’, but I've got a pretty good idea. I've watched my parents sail off into the sunset when I was still a kid, wondering if they'd ever make it back… I have to imagine that seeing that happen over and over every day doesn’t make it any easier.” The beginnings of tears had started to appear on both of their faces, and Aelita reached out for Rielle's hands. “And I can't speak for Sid, Navigator knows he's got his issues to sort out, but… I think he does care.” Aelita gave a goofy smile. “Even if he's too much a scaredy-cat to say it.” That got a laugh from Rielle. “If he ever gives you any more grief, run right on over to Ser Aymeric’s office in the Congregation, and he'll give me a call. I'll scoop you right up and you can stay with me and my friends, okay?”

Rielle nodded and wiped her eyes with a sleeve. “I will.” 

Aelita tousled Rielle's hair a little, and then stood to go get started on the impromptu Moogle chores.

“Aelita?”

“Yeah, Rielle?”

“... Look after him, will you?”

Aelita gave a thumbs-up and a grin, and went off to find some pomwort, whatever that was.

WIP Re-Intro: The Forever Project

Tried this once here and none of that is strictly wrong, but I just wrote a killer blurb so we’re going again.

How would you fare if you became omnipotent on your fourteenth birthday? I imagine you might be able to figure something out given some time to get a handle on your newfound powers, but Hera Elizabeth Rider’s deicidal brother and waking up to the discovery that she’s transported herself out of her body and into a new world are not giving her that luxury. It takes her a deal with the devil, unwitting service to a vampire hunter, the creation of several gods, and one eccentric genius before she’s able to do anything with her powers on purpose, and by then it’s really not clear what the right thing to do even is.

Elise Godslayer: This is the tag for the MC, Hera Elizabeth Rider. She goes by Elise because there’s too many Hera’s in her family (in her world Mary goes by her syncretized Greek name, and so most European historical figures that in our world are named Mary are named Hera there) and Elizabeth is too long for her tastes. The godslayer part is arguably a spoiler, but it happens in chapter three so I’m not too worried. Elise is a fairly normal fourteen-year old, outside of her godlike powers. She likes music (she can play violin and fiddle), was just starting to figure out she might like some girls as more than friends, is wary of responsibility, and has a crushing need to be liked.

Davriel Godslayer: This is Elise’s birth brother, though they were raised separately: Davriel was never human. He started out with their theoretical mythological purpose: killing the Greater Demons, but when the gods separated Elise from his at birth out of fear, he began to expand his horizons; were they really so different from the forces they pretended to oppose? Davriel was given far too much time alone growing to stew in his own mind, and has convinced himself there could be no greater solution than him as god-emperor of everything. This is not to say, unfortunately, that he wouldn’t make a terrifyingly competent and entirely benevolent god-king, it is simply that his understanding of what he’s working with (the world) is a scoche incomplete.

Eric Melior: This is the blurb’s vampire hunter! What the blurb does not mention is that he is also a vampire and was born in 1892. I recently decided he would be a Lithuanian aristocrat, so his name is likely to change, but he is not. He’s a very steadfast type, committed to his ideals and those he was raised with. He was raised by a pro-Tzarist father and a mother who joined a cult upon her husband’s death, however.

Sorceress: Here we have our eccentric genius. The only person (human, centaur or siren) to discover how to use magic on a sentient creature! She used this power to give herself a pair of legs, having been born a siren but being too curious about the world to confine herself to the water. Even though Elise created her world, Sorceress is likely its most consequential figure.

Mlle Nefara: The most recent character to get a tag, Mlle Nefara is just trying to get rich. Unfortunately, honest means are not particularly available to her as a black woman in 1890s Europe, and so she has chosen the slightly easier route of lying to a bunch of rich people, telling them all about the supernatural threats only she can teach them how to defend themselves against. Her charisma and talent are serving her well in this endeavor until 1897, when a plague of monsters begins to creep through the land. They’re similar enough to the ones she’d made up for her sect to become increasingly popular, but she can’t be so lucky that the techniques she made up would actually defeat them.

Siren’s meet nada: Nada is the word for city among the most magically reckless group of humans on Globe, Sorceress’s world. They call the city that has built up around Sorceress’s first home on land Siren’s Meet, not because they really ever meet Sorceress (and very few know she was ever a siren regardless), but because the estuary has collected extremists and eccentrics from human and siren communities. While it was Sorceress’s presence (and her geologic engineering) that drew the first few citizens to the place, it continued to thrive long after she went to Nadalitas. I use this tag mainly for short stories and worldbuilding facts that take place in the city.

Nihil hunters: A nihil is the most dangerous of the monsters that have begun to infect Eric’s and Mlle Nefara’s world. They are at once vampire and wraith, and so lose many of the vulnerabilities of both. The tag is nihil hunters for their whole world, because vampire hunters, what they call themselves, is simply too generic.

Southern dragons: These are mostly a world building project, as their interaction with the magic system and spatial/temporal laws I’ve built for this project is generally quite illustrative. While they originated in the southern continent of Sorceress’s world, hence their name, they have since spread to other worlds, moving through space and reality with a degree of mysterious ease I think is suitable for dragons.

Spacewhaling: It may not be correct to include this tag with this project; in fact, it started as an independent concept. If it does intersect with Elise’s story, it would only be in the third or maybe even fourth book.

Tsukuyomi, Shura and Douma from Olympia Soiree as parents!

Tsukuyomi likes peace and quiet… BUT THOSE DAYS ARE OVER FOR HIM WHEN BYAKUYA MAKES DADDY TSUKUYOMI INTO A REAL DAD!! xDDD 

Not gonna lie, he has an adjusting period as he becomes a father of a noisy brood after living on his own pretty much as he pleases. (Yosuga was an easy kid, and didn’t cause him any trouble lol). Many times he craves just for a moment of solitude, but those kinds of moments are far and between when the children are still little. But he has enough life experience to know that children are only small for once and years go by fast, so he enjoys every moment with them when they still need him. 

Tsukuyomi is definitely in his element as he guides and teaches the children. He has all sorts of knowledge and skills that he passes on be it reading, writing, mathematics or painting. If one of them shows interest in something specific, he always encourages them and makes sure they have the opportunity to learn more. Even though their children are in agreement that their dad tells the same stories over and over way too much and his existence is an overall embarrassment to them, they love him and he is the first person they come to for advice and support. Let’s face it, as raised by him, they are pretty strange themselves xD

As Tsu doesn’t have a day job, he’s basically SAHP, while Byakuya girl-bosses her way around the island xD Although Tsukuyomi does not share Byakuya’s drive for making an island a better place, he always supports her in her goals and offers advice if asked. Byakuya likes to drag him to help her in her projects,  although he grumbles objections now and then. But if it makes her happy, then he’s all for it. 

When their children grow up and start leaving their home, he is happy and relieved that their children have found their place on the island. But he definitely feels an empty nest syndrome (“Everything I love always escapes me…”) But not to worry! Byakuya will always have something “small” for him to do! (“Tsukuyomi, it’s 5 AM, it’s time to feed the chicken, rearrange the furniture and build props for the girls' new play!” “Yes, my dear…”) And when the children have children of their own, Grandpa Tsukuyomi’s babysitting services are desperately needed! 

So he will never have too long a moment of peace and he is at times a little baffled how things turned out like this. But he enjoys having a busy and a fulfilling life and is very satisfied with having a purpose. From his perspective, his life, after marrying Byakuya and having a family with her, went in a blur. But he feels he did more living during those decades than in centuries before that. So he has no regrets for forsaking his immortality to be with her.  

Shura

Shura and Byakuya make a power couple! When dealing with other people, with Shura sweet talking to them and Byakuya’s earnestness (yet calculated), they end up making promises they regret. Shura teaches Byakuya to be more shrewd while Byakuya shows her that kindness is sometimes more useful than subtle threats.

(I don’t know how they get pregnant, either by lesbian magic or they use sperm donors.)

When Byakuya’s pregnant, Shura spoils and pampers her so much that it makes her a little uncomfortable… 

Shura spoooooils their children so much! They can have anything they want, be it from dresses, dolls, make up. She loves getting them gifts and is very affectionate with them. But on the other hand, she is also very demanding and  strict and makes sure they know what awaits them. She knows all the eyes on the island are on their girls, always assessing them and waiting for them to fail, so she makes sure they are prepared for that.

Shura is fiercely protective over her girls. Especially when they get older and with her experience with her husband, Shura can be a biiiiit over projective. Basically, she doesn’t trust men. 

She assures her daughters that they can do anything even if they are girls no matter who says what. Having children also forces Shura to acknowledge that nothing in the island would change until women are treated more than living wombs. She realizes that she herself has kept the system living by her own actions. But she and Byakua swear to make the island a better place for women so their children and other women can live happier lives

Tsundere Grandpa Douma

Whenever Byakuya’s and her spouse’s children visit, chaos begins. They use the railing of the stairs as a slide, run in the house, making all the servants and Douma run after them to make sure they don’t hurt themselves or destroy the house. They ask millions of questions about Douma’s life in the Outside world and ask him to read books from them. Douma has to use every wit of his to keep children entertained. 

When their parents come to pick them up, Douma complains and asks not to bring them ever again. But when the children hug him and tell them that they had lots of fun, Douma’s heart melts. After they are gone, Douma goes to his study and sighs a breath of relief. It’s quiet. Just as he likes. But why does he feel so… lonely? When would they visit again? The servants notice when Douma misses them as he stares out of the window and keeps sighing. They send a word to Byakuya and her spouse that it would be nice for them to visit again as the Master misses his grandchildren tremendously…

Personal reasons both on and offline have led me to be less active. However, someone’s analysis on Kuroe (please don’t find/go after them) reminds me of what they had said when the anime’s ending was new and fresh. Most people, myself included, were rather bitter, you see, so we didn’t want to see people just…act in a way that we felt was callous and cold to her. I in particular got super attached to Kuroe. This girl is a lot like Homura, and also a lot like me. However, to call her just Iroha’s Homura is reductive and doesn’t do her justice. Kuroe is her own character with her own wants and desires. Even if some of us thought she was (the first) Kuro, or then Homura’s long-lost sister before canon said otherwise, the point is we love HER. We want HER to be happy. Rest under the Read More. Some people think Kuroe becoming a Witch in her despair was thematically appropriate. That the theme in Anireco is moving on from the past so you can look towards the future. That the way Kuroe became a Witch fits in perfectly with the franchise.

I disagree. I was bitter then, and I’m still bitter now.

I feel Kuroe should NOT have become a Witch, especially in the way she did. Yes, lots of Magical Girls become Witches when their feelings of hopelessness and despair reach a fever pitch, but Kuroe’s case felt especially cruel. It pretty much is framed like a suicide, where Kuroe desperately tries to escape from the Labyrinth, then doubles down on the idea that NO ONE can help her. That she is BEYOND any hope of happiness. That she just wants her pain and suffering to end. To say nothing of how her Witch was put down by Iroha, literally framed like putting a rabid dog out of its misery. And then, her death was used to help galvanize Iroha. It really feels like they made this amazing, relatable character…just so Iroha could get to where the story needed her to be, given she also loses Ui, Touka, and Nemu for good in this continuity.

Am I just angry at them not giving my favorite character a happy ending? Hell yes, I am! But people who are better wordsmiths than me have written about how the writing that led to this is not great. How it arguably feels more fitting for Magical Girl Site or Raising Project than it does Madoka Magica, and considering the kind of shit that IS in the original anime and Rebellion, is saying a LOT. Which is a shame, because what we had before this was SO GOOD. And then, the last few episodes happened. And this is the SECOND TIME this has happened to me in series I like!

Although, if there is a silver lining, someone in the game staff seems to have agreed with me. In the game, Kuroe is alive, well, and thriving! She’s in a position to where she’s starting to let Iroha in, and we even get details and context to Kuroe’s backstory, which is amazing.

I can take her never meeting Homura and becoming the big sister Homura never had, finding something in bonding with each other that they haven’t found in many other places. Obviously, I’d love it, and the fandom has both of them meet characters I feel wouldn’t truly understand them.

However, at the end of the day, I want my favorite character to be happy. And in the game, she is headed that way. Two amazing units, being able to actually bond a bit with Iroha, some of the best storytelling the game has offered yet (I’m biased towards any Kuro, and especially Kuroe), and lots and lots of lore and things you can get by implication.

Characters can be interesting AND happy. They can be allowed to heal without compromising what makes them resonate so dearly with all of us.
