Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Maggie Sawyer
Chief Inspector Margaret 'Maggie' Sawyer was head of the Metropolis Police Department's Special Crimes Unit (or SCU).  A dedicated, no-nonsense officer, Sawyer proved herself a highly capable leader and problem solver. Unlike her lieutenant, Dan Turpin, Sawyer welcomed Superman's assistance and built a relationship of trust with the Man of Steel.
Despite the whispers that the SCU had become too dependent on Superman’s assistance, Sawyer continued to maintain a good working relationship with the hero and they teamed up on numerous occasions, proving a greatly effective duo.  Furthermore, Sawyer and her SCU showed themselves as entirely capable, handling situations such as a rampaging Bizarro, the demonic Karkull, and a bomb-threat orchestrated by Earl Garver.
Inspector Sawyer’s wife, Toby Raynes, remained stedfast at her side and helped her recuperate after Sawyer sustained injuries incurred while battling the forces of Darkseid.
Actress Joanna Cassidy voiced Inspector Sawyer with the heroine first appearing in the twelfth episode of the first season of Superman: The Animated Series, Tools of The Trade.’

Landing the Proposal: A New Fic A Sequel to Crash Landings
Tumblr media
It's time for Winter/Holiday Bingo, and here is my first offering!!!
Landing the Proposal is the sequel to Crash Landings, written two years ago, that you can find here on ao3 and here on Tumblr. It was prompted by a reel @jonesfandomfanatic shared on the CSMM discord back in August. I haven't been able to find the reel again, but it showed an airline pilot encouraging an air traffic controller to propose to his girlfriend, who was on the plane. When I remembered that Killian was an air traffic controller in Crash Landings, I knew I had to write a sequel! Thanks so much for the prompt, Maggie!! I had WAY TOO MUCH FUN writing this!!!!
Also thank you to @jrob64 for beta services and her help with the art and also to @hollyethecurious for continuing the bingo card fun into the Christmas holidays!!
Story Summary: Almost a year and a half after the events of Crash Landings, Killian Jones is ready to propose to Emma.
Rating: G
Words: 1100

Landing the Proposal
It had been almost a year and a half since that fateful day when Killian Jones helped then ten year old Henry Cassidy land an airplane and he met the love of his life, Henry’s mother, Emma Swan. He knew after their first date that she was the woman for him and in the months since then, he’d fallen deeper and deeper in love with her. Emma and Henry were the most important people in his life and he was more than ready to propose marriage to Emma and join their lives together officially and forever. Until death did they part.
He had everything planned for a romantic dinner with Emma tonight and to go down on one knee at the end of their evening. She was on her way home from New York at the moment on the very plane that Neal was piloting, after picking Henry up from his Christmas visitation with his dad, stepmother, and baby half-brother. Neal had Christmas Day off from his job as a commercial airline pilot, but the blizzard that slammed the city in the early morning hours of the 26th kept the planes from flying until the afternoon of the 27th and every available pilot was called in to play catch up. So instead of Neal having the time to fly Henry home in his personal airplane, like he normally did, Emma came up to New York to fly back home with Henry on the commercial plane Neal was piloting. And since Killian would be there at the airport when they landed, he planned to have a few moments alone with Henry to ask his blessing before he proposed to Emma after dinner.
“You there, Killian?” He heard his name spoken over the radio and he grinned as he recognized Neal’s voice.
“Hey, man,” he replied, quickly. “Yes, I’m here.” He checked his screens and saw that Neal’s plane was about twelve minutes away from landing. “How was the visit?”
“The visit was good,” his friend replied, but he continued on quickly, not letting Killian get a word in edgewise. “I have kind of an important question to ask you.”
His brows furrowed, wondering what Neal might be talking about.
“When are you planning on proposing to Emma?”
Killian had just taken a sip of his coffee and turned his head quickly as he nearly choked on it. It wouldn’t do to spew coffee all over the very expensive radio equipment in front of him.
“I ask because of a conversation Emma, Tink, and I had yesterday before I had to head to the airport. That I’m not supposed to say anything to you about. But, if you have plans to propose, you might need to do it quickly.”
“What do you mean quickly?” Killian asked.
“Well, that’s the part I’m not supposed to say anything about,” Neal said. “Let’s just say, that if you don’t, Emma might have plans of her own.”
Killian’s mind whirled. He knew beyond any doubt that she wouldn’t leave him, but he wouldn’t put it past her at all to deprive him of a dashing proposal by proposing to him, if she thought he was taking too long to do it himself. So he could only conclude that was exactly what she was planning on doing. And if Neal’s urgency was any indication, she probably planned on doing it tonight, if not inside the airport when he met them after they deplaned. So if he was going to do it, now was the time.
“Put me on speaker,” Killian said, firm in his resolution. “On the plane. Put me in front of everybody.”
Killian listened, a wide grin on his lips, as he heard Neal speaking to his passengers.
“Good afternoon, this is your captain speaking. We will be landing at Charleston International in about nine minutes, but before we do, our air traffic controller has a very special message for a very special passenger on this plane.” Neal paused for a moment and Killian could just imagine the glee in his eyes as he continued. “Emma Swan, Killian Jones would like to speak to you.”
“Um, hi, Emma. And Henry,” Killian said, suddenly a little bit nervous to be doing this with an audience of a few hundred people. “I had a whole romantic plan in place for tonight, but a little birdie told me that I needed to get a move on. So, Emma Swan, you are the most beautiful, amazing, brilliant woman I’ve ever met. You are a fantastic mother, friend, and the love of my life. Will you do me the greatest honor and be my wife?”
Killian had to take his earphones away from his ears at the cacophony that erupted inside the airplane and the tower as well. He could hear Neal’s laughter and then Henry’s voice came through the radio.
“Yes, yes, yes, Killian!” he shouted. “Mom is crying in her seat and saying yes, so I ran up here to tell you!”
Killian laughed at Henry’s words and turned to his fellow air traffic controllers who were all cheering and congratulating him on his engagement.
“Thank you for telling me, Henry,” Killian said, his grin threatening to split his face in two. “But you need to get back in your seat so your dad can land the plane.”
“Yes, sir,” Henry replied.
Moments later, Neal’s voice came through the radio once again. “Way to go, man. Congratulations.”
“Thanks,” Killian replied. “And thanks for the heads up. It’s not surprising that she’d try to deprive me of a dashing proposal, but I’m glad I got to do it.”
“Me, too,” Neal agreed. “Happy to be of service.”
About twenty minutes later, Killian met Emma and Henry at the baggage claim. Henry ran and jumped in his arms, Killian hugging him tight.
“Do you have the ring with you?” Henry asked, excitedly as Emma approached, a huge smile on her face.
Killian put Henry down on his feet and pulled the ring out of his pocket as he got down on one knee. Emma’s eyes glistened with tears, with one spilling over and rolling down her cheek. Killian opened the box, to reveal a sparkling round diamond solitaire and repeated his question.
“What do you say, Swan?” he asked quietly. “Will you marry me?”
She got down on her knees in front of him in the middle of the bustling terminal and took his face in her hands.
“Yes,” she whispered before he slipped the ring on her finger and she drew him toward her for a kiss, promising forever.
The End

On November 1st 1889 a wall collapsed at Templetons Greenhead Factory Calton, tragically taking the lives of 29 woman.
For some reason this didn’t flag up yesterday.......
At about 5.15pm that evening, unusually high winds caused a large section of the new western extension to collapse into the adjoining weaving shed. The workforce was composed almost entirely of East End women and many were buried in the ruins.
The Eastern and Central Fire Brigades attended the scene under Superintendent William Paterson and they were assisted by the Glasgow Salvage Corps and policemen in their search for survivors. The firemen and Salvage Corps were replaced at 7pm by organized search parties consisting of workers from the factory. Although many women were rescued, twenty-nine died women and girls in the rubble.
Maggie Shields was a power loom weaver at Templetons Greenhead Factory Calton , who went to her work on the 1st November 1889 and became one of the 29 young girls to loose there lives when the ornate wall that was being built collapsed during a storm and demolished the weaving shed where Maggie and her co workers were working. Maggie was 22 years old and lived at 10 Gibson Street Calton The Glasgow Herald on the 2nd November reported that Maggie was missing at that time.
Their names were, according to the Evening Times:
Margaret Arthur, 20 Margaret Blair, 16 Helen Bradley, 21; Agnes Broadfoot, 21 Elizabeth Broadfoot, 17 Margaret Cassidy, 18 Lilias Davitt, 19 Agnes Dickson, 16 Jane Duffie, 20 Janet Gibson, 16 Dinah Gillies, 19 Jean Glass, 20 Sarah Groves, 22 Margaret McCartney, 17 Minnie McGarrigle, 24 Agnes McGregor, 17 Martha Mackie, 20 Elizabeth McMillan, 15 Rose Ann McMillan, 21 Jeannie Marshall, 22 Jemima Morris, 23 Grace McQuillan, 19 Margaret Shields, 22 Elizabeth Sinclair, 25 Mary Ann Stewart, 16 Annie Strathearn, 19 Mary Turnbull, 15 Ellen Wallace, 23 Annie Wilson, age 14
A memorial garden at the corner of London road and Tobago street is believed to have been built to commemorate the death of these 29 girls and on the wall was a plaque with the poem.
‘Green buds for the hopes of tomorrow Fair flowers, for the joy of today Sweet memory, the fragrance they leave us As time gently flows on its way’
The reason I say believed is that the garden seems to have come into existence many years later in 1954, and no records exist to it coming about.
There’s a wee bit about the memorial garden here https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/13259515.makeover-for-memorial-to-29-women-crushed-in-glasgow-workplace-disaste
