(regarding the last post)

i was kind of the mindset that the real only freedom children get from abusers is through death. or escape. sadly lol

I was so anxious and autistic- growing up constantly recognizing the awful things children (friends or strangers) are victim to especially at the hands of their caretakers.

my hyper awareness made me fairly pessimistic when i saw how powerless kids were (as a kid myself)

like they could never escape their evil fathers, grandfathers- the state requires parental contact no matter what.

nor their mothers- who had the final say on all aspects of their lives.

and that’s not including all the many people in authority positions that are beyond reproach- which for children is like all adults (unless ofcourse the child’s caretaker cares to weaponize anything to benefit themselves…)

((certainly i have a more structured and nuanced understanding of the power imbalances between kin etc now but shit kid-me was always like; “i hope they die!! painfully, too! they don’t deserve to live if every day will be a punishment to their victims!”))

Off the top of my head in terms of recommendations- I gravitate towards professional artist materials these days. I know there’s a lot of cheap art supplies these days so it’s good to explore, even if the brand isn’t ‘high quality’ or anything!!

Under the RM is more in-depth :)

I use a variety of alcohol-based markers, technical pens, inks, and (especially gouache) paints. I layer that shit like I’m burying a body, lol.

I almost shop strictly online at Jerry’s Art-o-rama for all my traditional media needs and tools! Can’t promote them enough 🫡

Ok I’ve rambled enough, omg. In no particular order- TLDR;

Top 3 Markers I recommend: Windsor&Newton, Prismacolor, Copic. (I’ve owned my 48 marker Prisma set for over 12+ years. Christmas gift in middle-school omg)

Top 3 Liners: CreativeMark SuperBlack pens, Zig Millennium pens, Gelly Rolls for white liner.

Top 3 paper/media brands: Canson Recycled series has great bristol and sketch pads. Strathford watercolor pads, mixed media boards! Honestly though? Any surface will do haha

Top 3 paints to try out: Turner Acryl-Gouache, Windsor&Newton designer* gouache, Prang semi-moist watercolors. I always come crawling back to these girlies😭

Color pencil wise? I strictly only use old-formula/stock Prismacolor pencils. Soft-core is ⭐️

(*IT MUST BE THE WHITE DESIGNER TUBES!! W&N has like some other cotman/scholar gouache series and it’s absolutely shit. Don’t get that!!)

currently cleaning it up for the first time. pulling bristles and hairs out and cleaning the top layers up (as you can see she is WELL LOVED by me specifically bc my dad never liked using watercolors lol)

Have you watched Space Ghost Coast To Coast, the show ATHF is spurn from? I recommend it, if you haven't seen yet you are missing out on Zorak, Brak and Moltar

i know the big thing in indie comics rn is scoffing at autobio comics as being easy, tired, overdone (ie its often the only time many people interact with comics on social media ‘relatablility’) and that EVERYBODY and their mom is doing/or has done autobio… girl

imagine if writers bitched about that shit bro and were expected to be taken serious 😭

well those nerds can speak for themselves. well i LOVE reading everyone’s comics about their own personal shit. i love reading them, like thank you for opening up your tiny world to me! thank you for in some ways or another being vulnerable about your life or thoughts.

i never feel as if its overdone because it’s always someone new holding the mic, and the differences in style, knowledge, and ability creates a unique piece of work that unfortunately gets seen as “derivative” :/
