the 16th century trend for all black dresses with very heavy trim? That's a look for Crowley.
Agreed! And wasn’t red hair super fashionable during that time too?
Madeleine le Clerc du Tremblay by François Clouet, 1570.
Margaret, Duchess of Parma by Anthonis Mor, 1552.
An 18th century riding habit would be really good too, in black with a red waistcoat & one or two shiny snake themed watch chains. Late 18th century riding habits are wonderful, and now that I think about it I wouldn’t mind wearing one myself. I love how they’re like… gown-shaped menswear. Big lapels, big skirts, lots of buttons. Good stuff!
Portrait of Mrs Stevens by Francis Wheatley, 1795
Magasin des Modes, November 1786.
And there are some awfully nice simple black Regency dresses.
Mourning Promenade Dresses, September 1805.
I think a 1790′s drawstring round gown would sit a bit more nicely over a flat chest though.
I also have to add this fashion plate, because I feel like a huge white fur muff is an accessory that Aziraphale would definitely carry in the winter.
Gallerie des Modes, 1779.
(I used to think muffs were only ever a woman’s accessory, but I’ve found pictures of men carrying them spanning the entire 18th century and the late 17th!)
#ask#captainlordauditor#long post#history#fashion#he was probably quite sad to see muffs go out of fashion#I sure would be if I'd lived during that time#I must draw pictures of them in historical outfits...#I already intended to draw more accurate 1793 outfits#Good Omens
