The strange mischaracterization I see a lot about Qimir and Mae, is the consensus that Qimir took one look at Osha in that apothecary and then decided to toss Mae aside for her twin. It comes in the form of confusion as to why Qimir looked so ~bemused and/or interested~ when he heard that it might be Mae who kills without a weapon. Or I see ppl analyze why did Qimir want his acolyte to kill without a weapon so bad when the answer was right there in the show.
For one, Qimir didn’t necessarily want to set aside Mae in the first place, not even after meeting Osha. The whole reason why he tried to kill Mae in the forest of Khofar epi. 1x05 is because Mae was the one who broke their deal first and she was going to betray him to the Jedi.
That is why Qimir wanted her dead and not because he met Osha and immediately thought Mae was insufficient. Osha wasn’t wrong when she pegged Qimir as a fair person, that’s because he is. Right down to the very end he was willing to let Mae hold up the end of her deal; he would train her and in exchange she would kill a Jedi without a weapon.
So when Mae had the chance to kill Sol and Qimir was edging her on to do it bc he still believed at this point Mae would fulfill the premonition Osha saw earlier, and thus completing her tenure with him. He would have confirmed that his tutelage wouldn’t have been for nothing and found someone powerful enough in the Force.
Because that is what he wants. Someone powerful in the Force to kill their enemies with it, and through the Power of Two, become more powerful himself.
Knowing her strength in the Force and having fulfilled his requirement he asked of Mae in the first place, makes Qimir even more certain that Osha is his acolyte. And that doesn’t have anything to do with some kind of idolized love at first sight/picked the wrong twin that seems to be the HC in these streets. Arguably, Qimir still cared, in his own way, for Mae.
