Marketing techniques used in the music industry

Here I’ll be looking at the way the music industry as a whole markets itself and the artists, producers and everyone else in-between promotes whatever they’re doing. Like with any type of business marketing you have the four P’s: Product, Price, Place and Promotion. These are the 4 key elements of marketing and marketing well. So, when marketing in the music industry usually you’d start with a form of PR or Public Relations so things such as News releases, interviews, Product or song reviews, participation in things in the public eye or some charitable participation things that just generally push your name and what you do out there. Doing things such fit my pitch to whoever I’m aiming it at. So, for me as a producer/ Artist that would be people interested in my genre of music that I make so under the kind of Sad/emo rap umbrella. I would then need to use techniques to target these specific people. Social media is a good way of doing this as it’s easy to target a large, specific group of people.

 When it comes to social media good platforms can be things like Facebook, Soundcloud, Twitter, Instagram and other music specific platforms like Band camp etc. I would need to do things such as updating my posts regularly and include contact information is really important obviously. I’d need to respond in quick reasonable times to messages and other things related to what I’m doing. Advertising is obviously very important to marketing and techniques like adverts on Facebook and other social medias as well as pushing your product as much as you can just by posting about it.

 Another big part of marketing in the music industry is Endorsements as a large part of an artist’s income can be through this. Whether it’s a physical item or a website etc. Looking for endorsements is important as companies won’t come to you usually until the artist is quite well known. So, seeking them out and providing them with audio clips, video demos, pictures etc. is important. It’s more about the exposure and pushing your name rather than whatever they’re offering such as free products. The focus should be on making it a win-win relationship. Being responsive is also key and being just generally helpful.

Can you tell me more about your OC and Mad Sweeney? Do you have a fic about them I could read? I'm absolutely desperate for more Mad Sweeney/OC content and your OC seems amazing.

Omg thank you so much for asking about my OC! I don’t have a fic yet, it’s all in my head but I’ll throw some MadSun headcanons at you (I’ve tried to base most of my headcanons on what I’ve seen from the TV series cause I haven’t read the book/s).

Sól Bruni is (as I’ve said before) a Norse sun goddess and is counted among the Old Gods. She’s been allies with Wednesday since before they came to America but when they did arrive she had to pledge fealty to him and follow his orders.

Sól is sun fire itself and has an intense aura/vibe about her, something that draws Sweeney’s eyes to her whenever she enters the same room as him. If he has his back to the door he can feel her warmth. Sweeney calls her all sorts of sun related nicknames, Sunfire is his go to though (he sings “You Are My Sunshine” and it drives her crazy cause he’s been doing it for so many years now). Sól hasn’t ever referred to her husband as Mad Sweeney, it has always been just Sweeney.

When Sól and Sweeney first got married centuries ago, Wednesday wasn’t too pleased about the betrothal and he still isn’t happy about it but can’t deny that Sól and Sweeney have made it work through all this time. Since they both work for Wednesday he finds a lot of tasks for the couple to do away from each other to express his displeasure. Wednesday is very much aware of what a powerful weapon Sól could be and intends to use her as such against other Gods, Sweeney is also aware of what Wednesday wants Sól for but neither him nor Sól can do squat about it cause she swore fealty and obedience all that time ago.

There is more headcanon history if you’re still interested after all of this. (I’m still so happy that you asked!)
