yo :3 i think i remember you saying you would want to talk about cuba more, so i'm actually curious - what do people know about cuba overseas? (and by people i mean other commies). i am surrounded by libs in burgerland so the average amount of cuba knowledge i'm familiar with people having is 0 lmao
not a lot besides that they're communist. The only time the news mentions Cuba is when there's protests, of course always spinning it as a popular insurrection against evil communists. When they cover the shortages, there is never any mention of the blockade. I can't remember there being anything about the family code either. So not a lot, because almost nobody researches Cuba, and when they do most of the time it's "research" like seeing what the Heritage Foundation or some other have to say about it. There isn't a lot of villification though, it's just saying "well they're poor and sometimes they repress protests", but it's by no means constant. I don't think most people even know that Raúl Castro stopped being president, or that even Fidel stopped being president

I wrote my aphobia post as basically a diary entry of my own (not at all definitive!) entry level analysis on the matter, and it's really heartening to hear it resonated with people! a whole 4 people saying it felt true to their lived experiences as well as mine is more than I expected. thank you to everyone who left kind words on it :3
