Warm Tones, For Winter!

This is, however, an endorsement for warm-toned makeup as a cold weather antidote. A few weeks ago, Tom thought up a whole shoot inspired by model Madison Stubbington, whom he saw walking around Soho on one of November's chillier days, hair a-tangle and cheeks a-flush. Beauty editors love talking about cool tones around this time, which makes sense given the weather conditions, but that kind of warm flush just looks so good.

The Reds Ingeborg handled Madi's makeup, armed with naught but some reference photos of Audrey Mamay by Perry Ogden. The first look could best be described as a wash of warmth—a little something on the eyes, lips, and cheeks, without committing too much to any of them. For blush, mix Nars' red Exhibit A with the orange Taj Mahal, two very dramatic shades that play extremely well together. It's half and half for Madi's fair skin, but adjust the ratio depending on your own complexion. The lips are Nars too, in Autumn Leaves. Fitting!

The Wines Dewy, glossy makeup is another thing that people seem to leave behind in August—but not you! For the second look, start with Kevyn Aucoin's The Creamy Glow in the very berry Patrice on lips and cheeks. It's a melty cream formula that sinks into skin and, coincidentally, fairs well in inclement weather. Finish the lips with The Lip Gloss in Bloodroses for maximum shine. Kevyn's gloss is fortified with castor oil and lanolin, which means no lip balm is needed.

The Oranges If Tom's encounter with Madi inspired this shoot, then the new Chantecaille Protect The Lions Palette—which arrived in the office a few weeks ago—brought it to fruition. The four bronzy, glittering shades are everything your warm winter smoky eye dreams are made of. Start by going around the eye with the lighter shades in the palette, dusting the cheeks with a little more Taj Mahal and applying Nars Audacious Lipstick in Catherine. Then blot a little off and slap on some Balm Dotcom. Because it's cold outside, and the moisture is much needed.

Oh, and The Hair The last time you heard from Holly Mills, she was styling Winona Ryder for New York Magazine. She returned to deliver a master class in Winter Waves; apply Aveda's Witch Hazel Hairspray from root to tip, clip the hair back how you want it to dry (creating bends along the way—more on this in a post to come), and release it when dry. For some extra volume, Holly wet Madi's hair with Aveda's Pure Abundance Hair Potion and styled it into a loose braid, shaking the hair from the tip of the braid as if to try to get the whole thing to come undone. That's how you achieve the volume you see above. (If you're looking for the color, though, we're sorry. You'll need a different kind of professional for that.)

How long have you been modeling for? About 4.5 years now.

What advice would you give a model starting out? Every model is different, so don't go judging your jobs by what another model may be doing.

What do you like about modeling? Travelling to places I wouldn't have ever considered before modelling, meeting new people from all parts of the world & making great friends with some. Plus being able to wear amazing clothing and jewellery that I'd have only been able to imagine without modelling.  

What do you dislike about it? Travelling because I dislike flying & not being able to plan ahead in time as everything in modelling is pretty much last minute.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you in your modeling career? I'm very proud of my Gucci Resort Campaign, and the Gucci jewellery/glasses campaign that I recently did.

What had been the worst thing? So far, I thankfully have nothing that really stands out enough to call 'the worst' thing to happen to me.

Have you ever stuck up for yourself to a client that was being rude or disrespectful? No, not yet in my career.

When did you get your big break? My first fashion week was in AW14. I did an exclusive for Christopher Kane in London, then went on to Paris and walked for designers such as Saint Laurent & Louis Vuitton. Then a few months after that I shot my first American Vogue with Annie Leibowitz & Grace Coddington.

What is your ultimate goal you wish to achieve in your modeling career? I've always said I'd love to do a fragrance campaign.

Is modeling your passion or something on the side? I love to cook and find nutritional medicine fascinating also. I've started doing some cooking classes in NYC when I have some time.

Have you ever tried to change your body in any way because of a comment said to you by someone in the industry? I did so once before I went overseas, because the International modelling standards are different from those in Australia.

Do you think your years of modelling experience has made you more self-confident or has it made you feel the opposite? Both. I definitely have a lot more self confidence these days thanks to modelling, though sometimes I will find myself revert back to being that self conscious teenager. But I feel this is something that every women will experience model or not. 

What does your typical weekly diet and exercise look like? I'm always changing what I like, but I love my fruits, vegetables, chicken & most seafoods. Plus I love me a good cappuccino or two a day. For exercise I like to walk a lot, especially in NYC, or I will do a yoga/barre class every now and then. When I'm home in Australia I run.

What is your favourite city to model in and why? There are aspects of all the city's that I admire. But London has a place in my heart, perhaps because it's more similar in some ways to Australia.

In the World of Fashion - IMG Worldwide and Pride Model - Madison Stubbington struts the International Fashion Runway World of New York, London, Milan and Paris. Madison strut along to Katy Perry “Firework” in luxury fashions for E L L E R Y night time show which opened the 20 year anniversary prestigious fashion event. Endearing to Australian designers Madison modelled for Dion Lee at his New York Fashion Week Shows and for E L L E R Y at Paris Fashion Week.

Madison Stubbington known for her red mane and chameleon style is a girl with dreams, who works hard to make them come true. Madison is a natural on the runway and in front of the lense. Our Aussie Girl has been named among the top 50 models in the world, struts the runway at Sydney, New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Week. Has added her very own Gucci shop window to her portfolio, a Vogue Italia Beauty cover, has been photographed by Annie Leibovitz and Peter Lindbergh for Anna Wintours Vogue Fashion pages, and most recently the faerie face for MAC Cosmetics.

Here is a slight insight into the girl behind the model - Madison Stubbington - that rare mix of style, grace and joie de vivre, a new breed of model - in a class all of her own - whom with all her stardom manages to keep her heels and trainers firmly on the ground.

Opening the shows for W A T S O N X W A T S O N and Jayson Brunsdon at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia?

It’s always such a pleasure opening a show and I am very thankful to the designers/team. Opening a show you’re the first one on the runway, so it can be quite scary in the lead up/wait in line. But once your out there it’s amazing!

Wearing heels so effortlessly?

Before modelling I don’t think I had ever worn heels…Unless maybe when I was having fun with my dress up box at a much younger age. But I found that when I put my first proper pair of heels on it wasn’t as difficult as it looked…and with some practice up and down my hallway at home, I got much better. Now it kinda feels like second nature to put on a pair of high heels.

How old were you when you started modelling? How old now?

I had just turned 14 when I entered the Pride Models Modelling Competition and now I am 18.

Why did you want to be a model?

I am not sure why I wanted to be a model…but I do remember that I would always read Dolly/Girlfriend magazine and pictured myself in one of the editorials.

What do your parents think of you modelling?

I am sure my parents never foresaw me doing modelling. But they have supported, encouraged and followed my journey no matter where it takes me, and for that I am forever thankful.

Is the lifestyle tough?

The toughest part about the lifestyle would be the constant travelling, and always being away from home. I used to get so homesick, but luckily enough I meet nice people along my journey whom make it better, and as I travel more it becomes easier.

Favourite model?

I think Miranda Kerr can do no wrong. Her street style is something of an inspiration to me and she is Australian also.

What do you love about modelling?

All the new places I get to experience, because without modelling I most likely would never visit them.

Favourite zen time?

Drinking coffee

Your favourite city?

I love NYC! I’m not sure why I like it so much…maybe it’s that it is open pretty much 24/7 or that the life seems so simple…and the buzz that comes with the craziness of everything happening around you. Some girls I talk to can’t stand the non-stop city life…but I find it great!

Spending time with your Mum in New York City?

It was such a good time with mum in NYC. Was nice to be able to show her how I work and live and show her around the big apple. We bonded and laughed. I wish we could do it all more often. Yes we ate gelato pretty much everyday. We made a point to try all the good gelato and coffee places. The best gelato was actually from Eataly just FYI. 

Paris? Lifestyle? Eating snails?

Paris is definately not a crazy busy city like NY. In Paris you can walk without having to swerve out of someones way every 5 seconds…the only downside after staying in NY, is that not everything is open 24/7 in Paris…but that’s forgivable as they make up for it with their fresh produce markets held through out the week. Eating snails was a once of thing, now I can say I have done it and I’m happy with that.

E L L E R Y  show in Paris?

It was a great experience to be apart of Ellerys first on schedule show. The backstage was buzzing with fun and laughter, everyone was pretty relaxed, and when the show started there was a lot of dancing in the line up. And having good music to walk to is always a good thing.

Favourite designer? Favourite show so far?

Tough question. I don’t think I have a favourite designer anymore…all of them are ones I would love to work for these days. Louis Vuitton took me to Palm Springs, and I had never thought about going there, so that has made it one of my favourite shows so far.

Who would you love to meet in the fashion world?

I would have to say Miranda Kerr, I think she is so beautiful and she is one of my style icons.

Are you a high end shopper or high street shopper?

I like to shop at places like H&M, Forever 21, Zara, Sportsgirl etc, but now I also find myself wanting more of the name brand items…I recently bought my first pair of Balenciaga shoes!

What is your favourite beauty product?

My ‘Caudalie’ beauty elixir. I love the minty fresh feeling it has when I spray it on my face.

Favourite accessories?

My small diamond studs, they were a gift from my mum and dad.

Favourite TV series?

Pretty Little Liars, Bones, Castle and Modern Family.

Favourite song?

‘Cheerleader’ by OMI. I love to run to this song also, because it has such a great beat.

Dreams that have come true? 

It’s always been one of my goals/dreams to be on the shop windows and Gucci has made that dream come true.

Accomplishments since MBFWA?

I had another great fashion season, got to work for great magazines like Vogue, Numero, Elle etc & of course my Gucci campaign which I’m very excited and happy about, and that’s my biggest thing since we last wrote. 

Positive influencers in your life?

Family, friends, bookers at my agency.

Will your sister Ella follow?

Not sure how she feels about modelling, but she has had offers from Balenciaga already and my mother agency Pride are happy to take her on once she turns 14, so we shall see what the future brings.

Personal highlights? 

I got to travel to Cancun in Mexico for an editorial and bought my very first designer handbag Louis Vuitton, which I’m in love with!

Your favourite things? 

Peanut butter, coffee, comfy beds, the smell of new things and my family.

Your New Year Wish? 

To begin my online studies in Nutritional Medicine.
