ough i just watched electric dreams. the whole time i was like 'miles i hope the computer steals your girl you don't deserve her'
AND THEN (spoilers)
i kinda always expected miles and madeline to get together at the end bc like cmon that's a common movie trope but like. miles being cagey and lying the whole time and telling her to shut up bc she didn't know what she was talking about and like, she must've overheard him yelling at edgar from the other room plenty of times too???
so all of that + her finally meeting edgar and him singing for her i was like 'wait are they actually going to have the computer steal his girl???' bc like. idk if i was in her position miles just seems like 100 red flags w all the lying and caginess and generally how he acts and everything;; and like the parts that actually drew you to him weren't even his and she knows that now... maybe it's just him under stress but like that's all you know of him...
but nope apparently that just makes her admit she really does love him. how does that make you realize you love him??? maybe it's like. she realized that the things she wanted to love from miles were coming from a machine instead and she realized she still loved him even without those things bc she couldn't love a machine. but like. girl the red flags...
the part where edgar asks miles to hold him and then dedicates the radio song to miles and madeline as the ones he loves was really đ„ș though... idk if miles deserved that love but like. he did teach edgar a lot and hold him in his final moments so i mean i guess. they were all he had...
anyway this is a miles distrust zone. edgar deserved better. madeline is cool but needs to get better taste in men
#kcat talks#the moral of this movie is you can get a girlfriend by physically and emotionally tormenting your computer#also maybe im just biased bc miles was giving huge red flags to me from the start w how he treated his electronics#people who get like. physically and verbally aggressive over computer problems. are always kinda đŹ#(sample size: my dad)#and then ofc he doesn't get any nicer when his computer becomes sentient like bro you're all he has!!! you just steal his music and yell!!!#sorry got possessed by the ghost of edgar for 5 minutes it was an interesting watch though fhskfh#also dear god i would hate to be miles'/edgar's neighbors tbh. the loudness;;;#madeline playing from the next room would also probably be a little annoying but calm cello music > yelling and party sounds

His New Partner
Chapter 31: The Nine Long Months
Series Masterlist
Previous Chapter
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
Words: 2877
Warnings: Pregnancy, child birth, some angst, some fluff, cussing.
A/N: I feel like this kind of sucks, and Iâm so sorry! Iâve been having a bit of writerâs block recently, but I hope that itâs not too bad for you guys. Also, the italicized words are flashbacks.
âSeriously?â Y/N groaned, dramatically throwing her head back onto the pillow behind her. âNo food? No water?â
âCome on, N/N. Itâs not too bad.â Tony failed to hide his grin. âYou still have these delicious ice chips.â He shook around the tiny styrofoam cup that was filled to the brim, watching as the girl got more and more annoyed.
She rolled her eyes. âMmm, delicious.â
âIâm sorry, Y/N. But itâs for serious reasons, and I know you that know that.â Dr. Madeline Bennett, one of the top OB-GYNs in America, spoke with an apologetic smile. âThese next several hours are not going to be easy, but youâve been preparing for this for the past nine months. As long as you cooperate, youâre going to do great, sweetie. âKay?â
Y/N nodded her head, sheepishly placing her hands on her extremely large belly. âOkay. Thanks, Doc.â She watched as the other woman walked out of the room, letting out a heavy sigh once she knew that she was completely gone.
âYâokay, kid?â Tony asked her, seeing the nervous look that was painted his friendâs face.
She dismissively shook her head in response, trying to break herself out of the nervous trance that had currently taken over her mind. âIâm fine.â The girl rubbed her hands up and down her midsection, wishing that it could be filled with something other than a baby. âJust hungry, thatâs all.â
âEwww!â Y/N groaned after taking a bite of the pancakes that Pepper had just made her. She made grabby hands towards the paper towel roll, a sour look completely taken over her face. ââGimme, âgimme.â Her articulation was horrible due to the massive clump of barely chewed food that was just sitting in her mouth.
Pepper frowned as she handed her friend a rectangle of the paper towel, watching as the younger girl spit the mushy piece of pancake right into it. âWhatâs wrong with them?â
Y/N took a long drink of her water, gurgling to get the taste completely out of her mouth. âYou didnât tell me you put banana in there!â
The strawberry blonde furrowed her eyebrows. âI didnât think I had to. You love my banana chocolate chip pancakes.â She placed her hands on her hips, remembering something that happened way back. âActually, you were the one who suggested putting the bananas in-in the first place! You said it would be a healthier option!â
The three months pregnant woman shoved her plate away from her. âYa, well, I donât like bananas anymore!â
âItâs true.â Tony agreed nonchalantly as he walked into the kitchen, taking a large bite of his apple. He walked up to Pepper, who he had recently got back together with after their brief âbreakâ, placing a chaste kiss on her cheek after swallowing.
âThey make her sick now.â Vision added from his seat at the kitchen table.
Rhodes nodded from right next to him. âYa, she canât even smell them.â
Pepper sighed, grabbing the basically full plate and beginning to dig in herself. âWell, if anyone has a manual to pregnant Y/N, thatâd be greatly appreciated.â
âIâll have F.R.I.D.A.Y. send it over.â Tony replied, and no one could tell whether or not he was actually joking.
The girl in discussion just gave a small shrug Pepperâs way, taking another sip of her water. She then placed the glass down with a frown, noticing how nobody was moving to get her anything different. âSo⊠do I just not get breakfast now?â
âAh, ah, ah, ah, ah!â Y/N wailed. âOh, god. Shit!â Her hands were clenched in fists, and her head was back and aimed towards the sky, silently asking whatever God or Gods were up there to help her out. As the large contraction finally began to calm down, the girl took a deep breath in hopes to relax herself. âThose things hurt like a bitch.â
âThe little oneâs just eager, thatâs all.â Tony spoke from his chair right next to her bed.
Y/N quietly chuckled. âNever stops moving; just like-â She stopped herself from finishing her sentence, knowing that it would hurt too much to say the name of the man who broke her heart. âNever mind.â
Tony gave her a sympathetic nod. âI know, sweet pea.â He placed a hand on her forearm and gave her a comforting squeeze, not wanting her to be under anymore stress than she already was. âYou and your little boy are fighters.â
âYou ready for the big reveal?â Dr. Bennett asked with a smile as she walked into the small Avengers Compound office that had been set up for her appointments with Y/N.
The girl, who had wanted to keep this whole ordeal out of the press, had insisted on not going out for doctorâs visits.
âA bit nervous, if Iâm being honest.â She responded.
âWhy?â The older woman questioned. âYou want a certain gender over the other?â
Y/N shook her head. âNope, just... I donât even know. I guess Iâm always nervous for these things.â
âWell, thereâs no need.â The doctor spoke while grabbing the jelly to rub on her midsection. âThis is just going to be a little cold; you know from the last time.â
The five months pregnant woman winced as soon as the substance touched her belly, making Dr. Bennett chuckle.
After several seconds of scanning Y/Nâs belly to get a good view, the doctor had finally figured out which sex it was. She turned to her patient with a smile. âYou for sure want to know, right?â
âYup.â Y/N responded shakily. âTell me.â
âYouâre having a boy!â
The girl let out the breath that she didnât know she was holding, grateful to have at least one mystery now solved. âOh my goodness, Iâm so excited. How is it that you know?â
Dr. Bennett pointed to the screen. âWell, you see this little protruding thingy right here?â
âHey, sweetie.â Pepper greeted as she walked inside of the small room, Rhodes trailing directly behind her. âHow you doing?â
Y/N sighed. âNot too bad. Pretty uncomfortable, though.â She rubbed her hands up and down her large stomach, noticing that Rhodes was carrying a paper shopping bag. âWhatâs in there?â
âWe, uh, went out and bought you a little something.â The man answered with a grin, before pulling a small brown teddy bear out of the bag. He watched as Y/Nâs eyes lit up, her hands going over her mouth in awe.
âYou guys!â She beamed as they placed the plush toy in her waiting hands, hugging it tight to her chest. âThank you so much. You know how much I love stuffed animals.â
âUhm⊠ya, N/N⊠itâs actually for the baby.â Rhodes said with a sheepish look.
Y/Nâs face instantly dropped. âOh, um⊠sorry. I didnât know that.â
The man began to laugh at her reaction, realizing that his little joke probably wasnât very funny to her right now. âNo, no, Iâm just messing with âya! Itâs for you, honey.â
The girl let out a heavy breath and shook her head at his antics.
âYa,â Pepper added, âthe baby couldnât even play with that anyways. The plastic eyeballs are a choking hazard.â
Y/Nâs eyebrows drew together. âThey are? Well damn, I didnât know that either.â Her bottom lip began to quiver, almost comically, as she squeezed the teddy bear tighter to her body. âI couldâve ch-choked my baby. I-Iâm âgonna be such a terrible mother!â
âOh, boy.â Tony frowned, walking towards her to stroke her hair. âNo youâre not, sweetheart.â
âN/N,â the other woman spoke kindly, âyouâre going to be an amazing mother, and you are amazing with these kinds of things. Iâve seen it.â
âOh goodness, all this stuff is so cute!â Y/N smiled while she and Pepper sat on the couch, scrolling through countless baby websites together. They had originally planned on going to the stores in person, but opted out because Y/N didnât want to be seen pregnant in public. Who knew what the paparazzi would do if they caught sight of it?
âI know right.â Pepper agreed before flipping her laptop towards the other girl, pointing at two small blue objects on her screen. âLook at these little booties!â
âAww!â Y/N giggled. âThose are so adorable.â She turned back towards her own computer, continuing to scroll through. âThereâs a huge onesie selection on this one site. Like, they are all so nice, and they look like theyâre good qual-â
Pepper looked towards her friend, wondering why she stopped mid-sentence, only to see a heavy frown painted on her face. âWhatâs wrong, sweetie?â When Y/N wouldnât answer, Pepper decided to peer over her shoulder, slightly gasping at the sight in front of her.Â
Right in the middle of Y/Nâs laptop screen was a navy blue onesie, a big Captain America shield placed right on the front of it.
âOh, honey-â
âItâs fine.â The seven months pregnant woman interrupted, discreetly wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. âLetâs just keep shopping. Weâre not nearly done.â She technically was correct, as for obvious reasons they hadnât done a baby shower. There was still a ton of things to purchase. âWhat about a breast pump?â She sniffled. âI need one of those, right?â
âWhen is this going to be over?â Y/N groaned, dramatically running her hands down her face. Or, at least any man wouldâve said that she was being dramatic. Any woman would completely understand the pain that she was going through. âIâm sick and tired of this!â She glared down towards her protruding belly, pointing a stern finger at it. âI swear, when you get out here young man, you are in very big trouble!â She instantly felt a sharp pain come from her womb and gasped in response. âWha-? Little guy just kicked me!âÂ
Rhodes tried to hide his chuckle with a fake cough. âI guess itâs payback for you yelling at him.â
âYa.â Tony nodded along. âHe clearly knows his momâs voice by now. Thatâs a good thing.â
The girl shrugged. âI guess.â She began thinking back to all the long nights that she spent just speaking to him and him alone. âStill doesnât make my cervix hurt any less, though.â
âBuddy,â Y/N sighed as she laid on her bed, rubbing her nine months pregnant belly, âyouâve âgotta calm down. Itâs getting late, I want to sleep.â
She got a kick in response, much like the ones that sheâd been getting for the past hour or so.
âOh, I see how it is.â She lightly chuckled. âSo stubborn, eh? Hmm⊠how can I get you to go to bed?â She racked her brain for any ideas that would work, before finally stumbling upon one. âHow about I sing you a lullaby? Okay? âTwinkle, Twinkle, Little Starâ?â
An additional kick to the womb alerted her that he was probably okay with that.
The girl cleared her throat before beginning, ready to sing her little boy a song that sheâd most likely be singing to him for the next several years.
âCome on, Y/N.â Dr. Bennett urged in a calm and collected tone from between her patientâs legs. âOne more push, thatâs all.â
âThatâs all, N/N.â Tony repeated from his friendâs side, her hand squeezing the living daylights out of his own. âOne more and heâs here.â
She gave them a strained nod before beginning that final push, her screams so loud that they couldâve probably been heard throughout the whole Compound.
Though, they were interrupted by a sudden high-pitched cry; one not of an adult, but of a newborn baby.
âI-Is that-?â
âYes.â The doctor interrupted Y/N with a grin, slightly holding up the boy to show her what he looked like. âHeâs here.â
A huge smile took over the girlâs face as she laid back on her bed, her muscles finally relaxing after many tedious hours.
Dr. Bennett cut the umbilical cord herself, knowing better than to ask Tony because he wasnât the father, and wrapped the baby up before bringing him over to Y/Nâs waiting arms.
âHi, baby boy.â The mother cooed as she brought him close to her chest, taking in just how beautiful he was. âYouâre finally here.â Tears began to mix with the sweat that was already coating her face, and she sniffled.
âHeâs gorgeous.â Tony spoke from beside her, making her glance up to smile at him.
âIsnât he?â
Y/N looked back down at her newborn son and began to lightly bounce him in her arms, causing the boy gurgle in response. âHeâs so precious.â
âDo we have a name yet?â Dr. Bennett questioned the girl.
She nodded her head before making eye contact with Tony, getting ready to drop a huge metaphorical bomb on him. âThe first name is Anthony, and the middle name is James.â
Starkâs heart felt like it stopped beating for a second. âW-What? You canât be serious.â
Y/N nodded. âWell, I am.â She turned back towards the doctor, a big smile on her face. âThatâs the name.â
âN/N-â
âTony, I want this.â She interrupted him firmly. âYou and Rhodey have been with me every step of the way through this pregnancy. This is my way of saying thank you, and that I love you guys.â
The man nodded, feeling tears spark into his eyes at her words. He definitely didnât feel deserving, but if thatâs what she wanted, he wasnât going to argue.
âIs there a last name that you want me to put?â The doctor spoke again. âYou can decide later if you want, thatâs totally fine.â
âRogers.â Y/N stated, her tone leaving no room for discussion. She knew that she was about to get heckled for it, but had already made up her mind many months prior.
âAre you sure about that, N/N?â
âYes, Tony.â She gulped, stroking her sonâs soft face. âI am.â
âSo, Iâve been wonderingâŠâ Steve spoke as Y/N sat on his lap with her back faced towards him, the television in front of them playing a movie that neither one of them were actually watching.
âSo, youâve been wonderingâŠ?â The girl repeated playfully, turning around in his lap to face him.
The man took her left hand in his right one and began to toy with the large diamond ring on her finger. âWeâve been engaged for a few months now, and you still havenât told me what your last name is going to be.â
âWhat do you mean?â Y/N asked, tilting her head to the side in the way that Steve found so adorable.
âLike, you know, are you taking mine? Are you keeping yours? Are you hyphenating?â He listed off, very curious of what her answer was going to be. âI know that thereâs a lot of new ways of doing things these days, and I know that with your fame you might want to keep your own. Whatever you do choose, though, itâs fine by me.â
The Captainâs words were followed with a loving kiss from his fiancĂ©e, which he immediately melted right into. His large hands firmly gripped Y/Nâs hips as he groaned lowly into her mouth.
âWas that supposed to give me some sort of an answer?â He asked after their lips parted.
Y/N gave him a sweet smile. âI want to take yours.â
âReally?â Steve questioned.
âYes.â She nodded, hands resting at the nape of his neck and massaging gently. âI want to be a Rogers. I always have.â
âAnd youâre absolutely sure about this, doll? Because from what Iâve read, most celebrities hyphenate or just keep their own.â
âIâm not them, though.â The girl stated. âStevie, Iâve been scribbling âY/N Rogersâ in my notebook since the night of our first date. Iâm very sure about this.â
The mother and son sat in silence, her lightly stroking his little face with the pads of her fingers. She watched as he repeatedly opened and closed his eyes, crystal blue irises that were very much like his fatherâs melting her heart already.
Her family was currently on their flight in, ready to meet their newest member, and her friends from work weâre going to drive up right away. Y/N had politely asked Tony, Pepper, Rhodes, and Vision to step out of the room, as she had wanted a moment alone with her baby before all of the commotion. And for the first time in a very long time, Y/N had gotten the chance to just breathe.
She had been so worried, so incredibly nervous for the past nine months that she had almost forgot to actually enjoy the experience. So scared of her and her baby being alone, that she really forgot to cherish his company. But now, holding her precious little creation in her arms so lovingly, Y/N knew that she and her son were going to be okay.
âYa, sweetheart.â She spoke softly to him, rocking him in her arms. âWeâre going to just fine.â She pressed a kiss to his forehead and let it linger, basking in the presence of the person who was now most important to her. âJust fine.â
Baby Anthony James Rogers murmured a couple incoherent sounds in response. He had not a single clue that he was missing out on meeting his father, the man who shouldâve been sharing this very exact moment with them.
