You have a negative review!

The dreaded e-mail that no small business owner wants to see. Ever. I was outside working with my chickens when I heard the familiar "ding" sound from my phone that tells me that I have an e-mail. And there it was. "You have a negative review" from a customer in your online store. My heart sank. 

I know most of my clients on a first name basis and if there is ever an issue I always do my best to fix it.

"Angelynn" had this to say about our 8 ft cedar chicken tractor and run: "cedar!!!??So cedar is awful for a chickens respiratory system. Why is this coop made from cedar??!!" This was a mystery to me as "Angelynn" had never ordered one of our coops. I could have deleted this comment, but I thought this would be a good opportunity to explain why we chose cedar to work with. 

First, cedar constructed coops are 100% safe for your flock. Angelynn may have confused western dried cedar lumbar with eastern white cedar that is used to make cedar shavings.

Cedar is a natural alternative to cheaper, chemically treated wood. ‘We live in Georgia where the humidity can be brutal to untreated wood. Cedar naturally resists rot and last for a long time untreated. Also, cedar is naturally fungal resistant - making it a great choice for a coop! Western Red cedar is a strong wood that will prevent from cracking or sagging over time. 

Long story short, we could use cheaper wood to build our coops but we want them to last several years. Many other high end retailers offer cedar coops as well (I won’t list them here but one rhymes with Silliam Wonoma).  I know “Angelynn” will probably never read this but at least it gives me a chance to defend our decision to go with wood.

We now offer an all natural tung oil stain on our coops. This will help keep the natural color of the cedar wood for years to come.
