AnimEigo to Launch Kickstarter Campaign for Macross II Anime Release

AnimEigo's Robert Woodhead announced at the Animazement event last week that AnimEigo will launch a Kickstarter campaign for the release of the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II original video anime film this summer. The company will reveal more details at its panel at the Otakon event, which runs from July 28-30. #Macross2 Kickstarter is coming later this summer. Details at @Otakon panel. At the time, Woodhead revealed on Twitter that his release of Macross II would be a high-definition transfer and not a resolution bump. The six-episode anime premiered in 1992. The story is set eight decades after Space War I and follows a civilian news reporter who meets a mysterious singer from a previously unknown alien race. Studio Nue began the Macross franchise in 1982 with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, a television anime series featuring the themes of a love triangle, music, and transforming fighter jets. Studio Nue worked with advertising agency Bigwest and anime studio Tatsunoko Production as production partners. The franchise spawned three other television series (Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta), several theatrical films (beginning with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?), and several video series (including Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross Dynamite 7 and Macross Zero). Macross Delta aired from April to September 2016, after a trailer for the first episode in 2015. The latest animated work in the Macross franchise, the feature film Gekijōban Macross Delta: Zettai LIVE!!!!!!, opened in Japan in October 2021 along with the short film “Gekijō Tanpen Macross Frontier Toki no Meikyū” (Macross Frontier Film Short: Labyrinth of Time). Hey can you take a look at some more bad VF's? Mainly the VF-9, VF-14, VA-3, and the VB-6.

i looked at all of these on the site macross2.net and boy oh boy are there some interesting designs here

the VF-9 actually looks pretty nice…it’s a slick and cute little fighter! i’m a sucker for small/light fighter aircraft and the VF-9 pushes all those buttons for me, at least as well as a Macross design could. the only complaint i really have is wing area again, but hey! the wings aren’t too small and it does have dedicated pitch control surfaces (hello, reasonably placed canards!). the VF-9 overall seems…decent. if y’all aren’t careful about sending me these cool designs i’m gonna have to start watching Macross

nothing about this design makes sense lmao. there’s nothing good i can say about it

the VA-3 wants to be the A-6, and for that i respect it. strangely for a VF-type mecha, it actually has a horizontal stabilizer! while the stab might be located directly in the engine wash, at least it’s there; something’s better than nothing

i enjoy the VA-3 purely because of how bizarre and unique it is; i’ve seen nothing like it before and i’m a sucker for unique/weird aircraft. once again, the wing is a little small, especially for a plane like this, but the unique configuation makes me like this plane enough to not be able to criticize too much. i especially enjoy the legs and arms; integrating them into the empennage and fuselage pods is a cute solution to an ugly problem.

the only way i can appreciate the VB-6 is by saying that it’s cool to see a variable bomber. other than that, it sucks. stupidly thick wing, fuckhuge railguns that come out of nowhere, gerwalk mode that looks like something straight out of early battletech, the dumb shit just keeps adding up. on the bright side, i like the cockpit and the space shuttle look? idk, i just don’t like it
