Regarding Uni Enhancement, do we go to the university during school hours? Do we get extra frees if we choose to do it?
Hey there,
I’m not taking a uni extension subject, but from what I hear, school takes priority over your uni extension subject. I.e. if you have a uni extension during a class at school (which may happen), then you must attend school and may not get any frees to accommodate your uni extension.
However, this doesn’t mean you’re in more of a disadvantage than other university students in your class since you should also have access to recordings and resources online, or can contact your lecturer/professor/teacher/classmates regarding missed classes.
When your classes are and how often they occur every week depends on the uni subject you choose.
We hope you enjoy your uni extension if you decide to take one!

hi fam! i just wanted to ask how uni extension works? i applied for accounting at monash, got the thumbs up from senior school, but like, idk what it actually is, how it contributes to my atar, what assessments are, if its stressful, etc. lmao would any of you guys be able to briefly outline what uni extension is? love you guys!
Hi there,
Since you don’t know that much about uni extension, it might be helpful to go to this information session if you can because it will go over all the information, specifically to Monash, which I am not familiar with. Here is the link: https://www.monash.edu/extension-information-evening’
Update: This event has already past, but we will leave this up as a reminder for people to go them next year if interested.
Here is the powerpoint that was used at Melbourne Uni’s one (it should be very similar, though we can’t guarantee it will be exactly the same):
https://study.unimelb.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/54650/UMEP-Presentation-2019.pdf
This page, along with the links I’ve attached below explain how uni extension can contribute to your atar: https://www.monash.edu/study/why-choose-monash/information-for-high-achieving-students/monash-extension/benefits-of-monash-extension
This page shows you what subjects you’ll be studying in uni extension accounting at Monash: https://www.monash.edu/study/why-choose-monash/information-for-high-achieving-students/monash-extension/study-options/accounting
From this page you can click through to the handbook pages of the subjects you will studying (I can’t attach the specific ones because I don’t know if you are studying at Caulfield or Clayton, but it’s clearly identified on the page.) These handbook pages will give you an overview of what you will study in each subject and how it will be assessed.
Like all uni extension subjects, you will study 2 subjects in a year (one per semester), which is the quarter of the normal load of a full-time uni student.
Here are some posts that we have already answered about general uni extension information and experiences:

Hey FAM!! Just wondering which unis are y'all applying to? And which courses are you guys planning to do if you're happy to share! GOOD LUCK WITH EXAMS
Hey,
FAM Member 1: Thanks for the good luck :) I’m most likely going to be applying to courses at Unimelb and Monash. Haha, I honestly have a range of courses that I want to get into but most of my courses are generally surrounding commerce or health courses :)
FAM Member 2: Thank you! I’m still not really sure what I want to do with myself post-high school so I keep changing my mind about what course I want to do. Initially at the start of the year I thought I wanted to do an arts/science or science/global studies double degree  at Monash. But I changed my mind and I think I want to do a bachelor of environment and sustainability/bachelor of asian studies double degree at ANU, and sometimes I think I want to do arts/languages or arts/european studies at ANU too. I keep changing my mind. Sometimes now I think I want to do Outdoor Education at La trobe or a BSocial Work/BSocial Psychology at RMIT. I won’t even go into all the other courses I contemplated doing in Year 11. Hopefully I’ll make up my mind by change of preferences.
FAM Member 3: Thank you! All of my courses are design/fine arts, with my top pick being an Arts/Education double degree at Monash! All of my other preferences are either fine arts/ design/communication design at UniMelb, Monash and RMIT :)
All the best!Love, FAM xx

Hi FAM, so I'm in year 11 and I was wondering whether any of you have done Uni Enhancement and how it works? And do you have to do this as a 7th subject or can it still count as your 6th? Thanks!!
Hi there,
We just answered a question about this recently.
Here is the link: http://friendsatmacrob.tumblr.com/post/176224545567/hi-fam-are-any-of-you-doing-university-extension
Here are some question that last year’s fam shared about their experience with uni extension + more information/details:

You can also talk to Ms Puszka and Ms Serpless for more information about whether it can be counted as one of your six subjects. From what we know, Macrob requires you to do six subjects for VCE unless you have special considerations. And so, Uni Extension would be a 7th subject on top of that. Usually girls do 2 subjects in Year 11, then 4 in year 12 along with Uni Extension subject.
Hope this helps!

how to apply to american college?
Hi,
Ms Serpless in the careers office (K201) would be the best person to direct this question to, as she is very experienced in helping Mac.Rob students through the process of applying to American and international universities in general, and would be able to assist you so much better than we can as we only know a very limited amount of information regarding this.
Hope this helps!

anyone applying for dent at la trobe? have you done your res applications? where you gonna live?
Hey,
I have put it as my first preference but as the cut-off selection rank was 98.9 last year, I honestly am not sure whether I will get in. I haven’t applied for residency yet, but probably will later because if I do get in, I will be living on campus.
Thanks,Briana

Note
would doing further ruin my chances of getting into med????
Hi there,
Doing any VCE subject isn’t going to inherently ‘ruin’ your chances of getting into any course – med or other. We are presuming you are talking about undergrad med and the high minimum atar required for entry into these courses. As long as you do well in Further it will not ruin your chances of getting in. No subject has any intrinsically bad part of it that’ll prevent you from getting into medicine. Treat subjects like scores and getting into med by getting the minimum total score required. If you are good at it, and are on top of exam strategy, you should get a good score, and so it doesn’t matter whether you’re doing further, methods, spesh or geo… whatever it is it is based on the overall scores and prereq subjects (make sure you know what they are, pretty sure you need methods and chem). That’s why it’s important to choose subjects you like and are good at. If you love Further and think you can do well, then it shouldn’t be an issue.
Good luck!FAM xx
