Magic Dusk
flickr
Magic Dusk by James Marvin Phelps Via Flickr: Magic Dusk Mackinac Bridge Straits Of Mackinac Mackinaw City, Michigan The Mackinac Bridge, is an engineering marvel spanning five miles that connects Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas over the Straits of Mackinac. Opened in 1957, it’s one of the longest suspension bridges in the Western Hemisphere, with a main span of 3,800 feet. This bridge is famous for its size and flexibility; it can sway up to 35 feet in strong winds, a necessity to withstand Michigan’s unpredictable weather. Nicknamed "Big Mac" and "Mighty Mac," the bridge took over three years to complete and is coated with 35,000 gallons of paint to protect it from the harsh elements.

Awwwww .....
OK, so you've got your Mackinac Bridge, your Mackinac Island, your Straits of Mackinac, but the city is Mackinaw.
And they're all pronounced the same. What gives ..?
I know - you're hoping for an explanation full of intrigue, or at least humor. Sorry. In fact, the answer is about as pedestrian as you can get:
"The founders of Mackinaw City opted for the phonetic 'aw' spelling, probably as a way to distinguish their town from Mackinac Island for confused postal carriers."
As for the derivation of "Mackinac." legend has it that Natives thought the shape of the island resembled a turtle (how they discerned that without aircraft or drone I don't know).
Anyway, they named the island "Mitchimakinak," which meant "big turtle." Then the French changed it to "Michilimackinac," which remains the name of the fort at Mackinaw City. The English shortened it it "Mackinac."

I’ll be crossing this bridge again tomorrow! Been doing it all my life, it really is impressive and terrifying all at once. And those metal grates are a real thing, they suck to drive over due to the sound it makes and also the way it makes your car veer side to side as the tires try to catch the grooves.

The Mackinac Bridge, Michigan USA was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened on November 1, 1957, at 8 km in length, it rises 168 m above the water surface at its highest point.

I wanna draw a Michigan Miku, with her wearing a camo t-shirt, eating a meal of a savory Paczki (pronounced POOnch-kee), some Better Made potato chips, and some Mackinaw fudge, showing where she lives on her hand, with a Ford truck and a deer in her truck bed, a U of M hat on her head and a Michigan State University sweater tied around her waist, the background being the Mackinaw Bridge.
Anyone from Michigan or knows some more Michigan stuff can throw more suggestions for details in the replies.

i had this dream last night (TW ig, drowining)
where i was at the mackinaw bridge, but it was red, but it WASNT the golden gate bridge. i was at that spot where you can go under the bridge a bit, just by that lighthouse and fort michilamackinac. except the spot where you go under it is all cement, and it goes out over the water too, and theres a huge stretch where you can stand on the cement. so i ended up standing out there, and i fell off. then this boat appeared but it wasnt really a boat, it was technically a canoe but it was more like a large stick with a curve cut out. so i paddled that canoe wayyy out to another doc/port area, and the part where the workers did their shit was just this giant cement thing that turned into dirt/grass, but it was just a wall on the other side that went down to the sea floor. there was a fence to keep people from falling off, but really it was more like a "theres water beyond here" type thing bc someone could easily trip over it. it was just some knee-high wood posts with rope stringing them together. on the side of the wall, just above sea level, there was ropes, presumably for tying up boats, and it was just a large rope strung like party streamers through metal hooks that were drilled into the cement. as i came up on this dock, my canoe was like. melting? like it was disappearing and so i thought to myself "i'll grab one of the ropes on the wall to hold me up" and so as my boat shriveled away, i grabbed the rope but i just sank, because the hook broke. my feet hit the sea floor, and i kept pulling on the rope but all the hooks were breaking and wouldn't pull me up. my feet started to bury into the sand, and i couldnt move to swim up. i screamed, but my scream turned into bubbles and rhe bubbles turned into fish and the fish kept biting me and i kept screaming and more fish would appear to bit me and then i woke up
