Having recently realized that SheepShaver can run my old Mac CD’s, I pulled out some old MacAddict discs and found this old issue of MacDoom Review, focusing on the then imminent release of MacHexen, some cool new WADs, and a smattering of links that probably don’t work anymore.

Thought I’d share the nostalgia with any old Mac Doomers out there.

Major Study: Spider Animation Walk Cycle

Today, I have worked on creating a walking animation for a giant spider creature. This is the first pixel art animation that I have created, so I did try to use a reference to get a better understanding of the proportions and leg movements of a large spider. It consists of 8 frames, but I think with other animations, I will try do complete them with less frames, because their walking cycles should hopefully be somewhat less complicated to create.

Aesthetically, I wanted this spider’s visual design and movement to look quite repulsive to the player, rather than cute, to contrast the protagonist. I gave it long reaching legs, small yellow eyes, fangs, a web spinner, and a large body. I think the movement looks pretty good, and fittingly creepy for the atmosphere of the game. I am quite happy with how it turned out.

Everything's red - with my blood splattered face - as I try and grab a nice screen shot of this new WAD I've just downloaded for Doom II. This download is called "Robot Junkyard Workshop's Doom Pack" by a Nick Baker and it looks pretty nice.

Gonna put the little'un to bed and then I'm giving it a proper go. I love Doom. (especially with the PSX music cranked up!)
