Recently started playing Magic the Gathering: Arena and I really adore the Bloomburrow set. I need more stories of tiny, cute, furry critters fighting evil. Anyway, here's Mabel, ready to defend the Valley.

Even setting aside the otter part, it's very funny that they're sending the multiverse's biggest city boy to the "whimsical rural fantasy" plane.
The real reason Ral never leaves Ravnica is that every time he does, the multiverse tries to turn his life into a Hallmark movie.
#he lands in front of Mabel and they have a nice little meet-cute moment and then Ral proceeds to look up towards the sky and yell#''stop doing this! I am MARRIED and GAY!''#mtg#ral zarek

Meems and MTG: Bloomburrow
I have been playing Magic: The Gathering with my boyfriend and I absolutely loveeeeeeee the Bloomburrow cards. I've been playing a standard Boros Mice deck with my favorite card being Mabel, Heir to Cragflame. He even got me the special art version of her card for me, specifically the one that looks like a old storybook illustration! It's such a fun game to play and I can't wait to play it again tomorrow, since my boyfriend is coming back from college. Do you guys like MTG? If so, what are your favorite colors to play?

Hey am I missing something or is this card useless? It's just a 1/2 that draws you a single card when you play it, and it only looks at the top 4 so it has a good chance to miss unless your deck has like 20 noncreature spells. The offspring is really expensive too. Why pay 6 mana to draw 2 cards? Getting a 2-mana 1/2 in a spells deck isn't worth much, not without prowess or something. I'd rather have an unplayably bad rare than a broken one any day, but I'm just confused, it's not even a unique or complex effect. Did they accidentally swap the rarities of this and some common?
#mtg#magic the gathering#maybe i'm underestimating the usefulness of a 1/2 creature#but for 2 mana you can get that prowess signpost that makes your instant/sorceries cost 1 less#or you can draw 2 cards with Pearl of Wisdom#or get a 1/1 prowess with Otterball Antics which can flashback for 4 to get a 2/2 prowess and it IS a noncreature spell#and if you want a noncreature spell so badly then just take this out and run a noncreature spell in its place#i can't find the reason why you'd run this card#there's better options for creatures there's better options for card draw there's even a 2-drop that can also spend 4 excess mana#for a rare to be this simple and this bad is so strange#i'm also a little salty because i've opened 3 copies of this instead of Mabel Heir to Cragflame

Here at the end of the story wishing we got more!
Maybe me comparing Valdes's prose to The Hobbit set my expectations a bit higher, but the jump between Episodes 4 and 5 is just too abrupt. Too many things felt like they needed more set up, seeing more of the world and the stakes properly being established. At the very least King Glarb maybe shouldn't have just, blabbed out his plans right then and there. At the very least surprise the main cast and stuff them in the dungeon to let them watch the world start to burn before they all pull through to save the day.
Even Mabel handing the egg back to Maha felt so contrived, Ral had to be the one to point out "That's the most motherly thing I've seen you do." Because well. During the adventure itself the fact Mabel is a mother wasn't really made relevant.
On the whole I had fun, but I wish they gave this more story. WOTC themselves has admitted Bloomburrow has been the most hyped set this year, so having the story fall short feels like a disappointment. Can't help but feel like Valdes was also expecting to tell more of a story too.
Bloomburrow | Episode 5: Nightfall in Fountainport by Valerie Valdes
As heroes, villains, and monsters make for Fountainport, Helga returns to her old master.
#mtg#furry#also as a very minor thing when mabel starts “blurring” it's very hard to visualize exactly what her magic is#i need the planeswalker's guide. please
