hardest firearm to shoot?
Anything with a short stock/grip. Hands down the scariest thing I've ever fired was a '70s era Uzi (Australia wasn't using Uzis in the '70s, so how it got to where I found it I have no idea) because of the lack of recoil control. Every fully automatic firearm I've ever fired before that was able to have some recoil control by gripping various parts of the weapon or because of the mechanics of the weapon—the Walther MP I fired had the magazine itself, the M16 had the handguard, the M2 Browning was heavy as fuck and turret-mounted so the weight of the weapon itself controlled the recoil and prevented the barrel from rising during automatic fire.
But the Uzi? That's a death machine for the user too. That recoil will make you its bitch if you're not ready for it. It's a tiny little weapon so I don't mean it hurts, just that the barrel will rise while you fire and if you hold fire without being prepared for it or what it feels like then the weapon can and WILL fly up and invert and that's how people get skullcapped. Stocks are a requirement for those little fuckers.
As for handguns, uh... Any of those old pocket pistols/mouse guns made for ladies to hide in their purses—or cops to hide on their person. Like a little derringer? Single-shots are fine but revolvers will fucken kill you cuz you can't even get a grip on the bloody things. Glares at my Colt Detective Special (it's bloody reliable but it's scared me a few times...)

Five Guys was founded in 1986 by Janie and Jerry Murrell. Jerry and the couple's sons Jim, Matt, Chad, and Ben were the original "Five Guys". The Murrells had a fifth son, Tyler, two years later. Today, all five sons, the current "Five Guys", are involved in the business: Matt and Jim travel the United States visiting stores, Chad oversees training, Ben selects the franchisees, and Tyler runs the bakery.
The first Five Guys was in Arlington's Westmont Shopping Center. Buns were baked in the same center by Brenner's Bakery. This location closed, in favor of another in Alexandria, Virginia, at the intersection of King and North Beauregard Streets, which closed on September 21, 2013.
More followed in Old Town Alexandria and Springfield, Virginia, making five locations open by 2001. Their success encouraged the Murrells to franchise their concept the following year, engaging Fransmart, a franchise sales organization. Former American football player Mark Moseley, who had gone to work for Fransmart after his football career, played a key role in Five Guys' expansion and went on to become the company's director of franchise development after it ended its business relationship with Fransmart. In early 2003, the chain began franchising, opening the doors to rapid expansion which caught the attention of national restaurant trade organizations and the national press. The expansion started in Virginia and Maryland, and by the end of 2004, over 300 units were in development through the Northeast. Over the next few years, the chain rapidly expanded across the entire United States and into Canada, reaching over 1,000 locations by 2012.[needs update][citation needed]
The first location outside North America opened in the United Kingdom in July 2013, in London on Long Acre in Covent Garden. The chain now has more than 150 restaurants in the UK. Five Guys also has locations in the Middle East and has continued to expand in Europe. In late 2017, Five Guys opened its first restaurants in Germany, with a branch in Frankfurt and another in Essen.
Five Guys, one of the top three burgers in the U.S., opened its first Korean store in Gangnam, Seoul, at 11 a.m. on June 26, 2023 with a countdown shout. As of 2024, there are a total of four branches in Seoul.
Five Guys Enterprises has several affiliated companies that are not part of a consolidated group, but are under common ownership. Five Guys Operations was founded in 2012, Five Guys Holdings was founded in 2007. Five Guys Foods UK Limited was incorporated on March 12, 2013. FGE International, FGO International BV, and FG Coöperatief U.A. are based in Amsterdam. FGH International C.V. is located in Bermuda.
Five Guys had a 39,900 square feet (3,710 m2) headquarters in Lorton, Virginia, overlooking the Occoquan and Potomac Rivers, that was specially designed to convey the corporate brand. According to the architect, "The lobby mimics the typical Five Guys restaurant with red and white tile, tall tables, Freestyle Coke machine and signature peanut boxes." In 2023, they moved their headquarters to a new location in Alexandria, Virginia.
On September 24, 2020, the first Five Guys location with a drive-through window opened in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. The franchisee retained it from the former business in the building in light of COVID-19 pandemic safe practices.
In September 2021, Five Guys opened their first location in Australia. The chain also has plans to expand into New Zealand. In November 2022, Five Guys announced the relocation of their headquarters to the Carlyle neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia.
Five Guys has received numerous awards in D.C. area publications, including "Number 1 Burger" by Washingtonian Magazine for seven years.[citation needed] The former US President Barack Obama is reportedly a fan, buying lunch for himself and his colleagues at the Washington Five Guys branch in 2011.

Midsumma needs new home after shock eviction from offices
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/midsumma-needs-new-home-forced-to-vacate/
Midsumma needs new home after shock eviction from offices
Victoria’s premier LGBTQIA+ cultural festival Midsumma is seeking new office accommodation after they were suddenly forced to vacate their offices at the end of last week.
“We are urgently seeking new office accommodation after being informed that all occupants of our current office must vacate by the end of this week,” Midsumma said in a statement.
“While the timing of this has come about unexpectedly, we have been planning to secure new office accommodation for some time.
“Despite our considerable efforts to secure a lease for a new office, Midsumma has been unable to secure a suitable tenancy at an affordable rate.
“As a result, we are left with no choice but to move our non-essential items into storage and work remotely for the immediate future.”
Midsumma Chief Executive Karen Bryant told us, “It’s unexpected that we would become homeless at this time.
“Unfortunately, Midsumma is funded at a lower level than other festivals of similar and even lower size. This gives us little bargaining power in negotiating for new office rental.
“Our 2024 festival was the largest Midsumma ever, and planning for 2025 is well underway.
“Still, it is difficult for our staff and volunteers to work separately and remotely without a place to call home for our important work across diverse artistic communities.”
How you can help
Ahead of their 2025 Midsumma Festival, the not-for-profit organisation has put out a call to action.
“We are now contacting the community for support to help identify suitable and affordable office space,” they said.
“Our low core funding levels have always prevented us from paying commercial rental rates.”
Midsumma had assurances that they would be in their current accommodation in Melbourne until early 2025.
“The new management of our current building unexpectedly issued a 30-day notice to vacate last month. This concluded Saturday,” Midsumma explained.
As a result, the organisation is currently looking for something suitable and affordable in or near the Melbourne CBD.
Midsumma requires a minimum space of 200/250 m2 with access on evenings and weekends and a loading dock or similar.
“We urgently seek vacant office space in or near central Melbourne that could accommodate our team at an affordable rent,” they said.
“We appeal to property owners, community members, and supporters to assist us in this time of need.”
For more information or to offer accommodation support, contact Richard Jenkins via [email protected] or 0412 943 684.
Midsumma powering on
Although the team is working remotely, they’re still powering through ahead of their next festival. Midsumma will return from 19th January to 9th February, 2025.
Event registrations for 2025 are now open. Expressions of interest for the Bluestone Church Art Space as well as the Victorian Pride Centre closing next month.
There is also less than a month left to submit a project for Victoria’s Pride Regional Activation Program.
The festival culminates in an iconic one-day street party in Naarm/Melbourne’s Gertrude and Smith Streets precinct on Sunday, 9 February 2025.

Troops find more NPA firearms in NegOcc
#PHnews: Troops find more NPA firearms in NegOcc
BACOLOD CITY – Troops of the Philippine Army recently found another cache of firearms belonging to the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Negros Occidental.
A report of the 3rd Infantry Division on Monday said a special operation conducted by the 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) led them to the location in Sitio Huebesan, Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava town at dawn of December 17.
Maj. Gen. Eric Vinoya, commander of 3ID, said the discovery of the firearms brings an advantage to the government troops as they go on intensified combat mode against the CPP-NPA.
“The NPA is infamous for staging attacks not only against government forces but also against civilians during the holiday season. This is a big help to our intensified combat operations as it will prevent them from using these war materiel in launching terroristic activities,” he added.
During the operation in Calatrava, which was conducted following the information provided by the locals, the troops found an M2 carbine rifle with five magazines and an upper receiver of M16 rifle.
The discovery came exactly three months after troops of 62IB also discovered 12 firearms in the vicinity of Sitio Bungao in Barangay Macagahay, Moises Padilla.
Vinoya said the latest development also shows the dwindling number of communist-terrorists in Negros Island.
“Their number has significantly declined following the series of surrenders and apprehensions of their leaders and members,” he added.
The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines. (PNA)

Longest night, darkest sky
Looking for something to do on the longest night of the year? The Australasian Dark Sky Alliance (ADSA), ARC Centre of Excellence in All Sky Astrophysics in 3 Dimensions (ASTRO 3D) and their partners might have a little job for you.
Whatever the weather and wherever you are, they’d like you to look to the night skies on Sunday 21 June to help them measure light pollution around the country. It’s a great way to get involved in a growing global movement: citizen science.
Stargazing at Siding Spring Observatory, near Coonabarabran, NSW. Credit: Angel Lopez-Sanchez
“We’re expecting thousands of people to join us on Australia’s longest night, to help researchers create a map of Australia’s darkest skies, and learn about light pollution and its effect on people, animals, and astronomy,” says Marnie Ogg, CEO and founder of ADSA.
“Together, our observations will map how light pollution varies across Australia’s cities and regions, and make a Guinness world record attempt for ‘Most users to take an online environmental sustainability lesson in 24 hours’.”
There are myriad reasons to measure and improve our understanding of light pollution.
From a science perspective, astronomy is adversely affected by atmospheric light at night. It reduces contrast between heavenly bodies and the sky and dims the visibility of diffuse sky objects like nebulae and galaxies.
Artificial light affects earth-bound life by such things as disorienting some animals and plants, and messing with humans’ ability to get a good night’s sleep – queue link to chronic sleep deprivation and its litany of health problems including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, mental health issues and accidental injury. Depending on the power source, artificial light can contribute to climate change by wasting electricity.
Light pollution can also interfere with indigenous peoples’ ability to share and practice culture. Constellations and the night sky have special significance in many traditional cultures, including those of Indigenous Australians.
World map of artificial sky brightness. The map shows, in twofold increasing steps, the artificial sky brightness as a ratio to the natural sky brightness (assumed to be 174 μcd/m2). The table indicates the meaning of each colour level. Credit: F Falchi et al., Science Advances 10 Jun 2016: Vol. 2, no. 6, e1600377
“The Australian night sky is amazing,” says astronomer Lisa Kewley, director of ASTRO 3D.
“Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is painted across the sky. It’s a view that encourages us to wonder what’s out there, amongst the billions of stars. It’s a view that encourages kids to take up science and physics. But most Australians can’t see it – their view of the sky is blinded by light pollution.”
To get involved you need only a computer, smartphone or tablet with an internet connection. Sign up to the project here, then sign in on 21 June from 1pm AEST to get going.
You’ll need to watch some videos, answer the (five) questions, and do a night sky observation using the Globe at Night web app – which the project website will direct you to.
Southern hemisphere sky watchers will be looking for the Southern Cross (Crux) constellation. Northern hemisphere participants will focus on the Bootes constellation.
Observations – valid even if it’s cloudy or raining, so don’t be put off by bad weather – will be uploaded to the Globe at Night dataset in real time.
Globe at Night is an international research program based on citizen science measurements of light pollution in the night sky. Globe at Night’s coordinating researchers compile this information into a public, freely available map of global light pollution.
The Guinness World Records attempt is a fun extra – and note that you have to complete the ‘lesson’ in 24 hours to contribute. It may take several weeks for Guinness World Records officials to confirm the status of this attempt.
Most of us are so accustomed to light pollution that it’s hard to imagine its significance and impact in comparison to an older, darker world – one shaped only by nature’s illumination.
“For example, light pollution from cities distracts bogong moths as they migrate from Queensland to Victoria’s alpine regions,” says University of Melbourne wildlife ecologist Jen Martin.
“If they don’t arrive on time, the endangered mountain pygmy possums that depend on them for food will starve.”
It’s thought that as few as 2000–3000, likely less, of the mountain pygmy possum (Burramys parvus) survives in the wild. For you, one cool evening – or cold, depending on where you live in Australia – might help it endure.

CENTIEL to Show Industry Leading Agile UPS Solutions at DCW 2020
NEWS FEATURES FIRE & SECURITY SUBMISSIONS RESOURCES
Leading UPS manufacturer, CENTIEL UK Ltd has announced it will demonstrate its agility by showing its industry leading, flexible UPS solutions at Data Centre World this year on booth D810. DCW will be held 11-12 March 2020 at Excel in London.
Louis McGarry, sales and marketing director, CENTIEL confirms: “With real-estate prices at a premium, plus the high costs of power consumption and the cost to maintain oversized UPS systems, the need to constantly right-size appropriate to the load has never been more important. For datacentres looking to minimise running costs and maximise returns, an agile approach to system design is key. At DCW this year, we will demonstrate how to achieve a flexible approach through the use of true modular UPS systems.
“We will be showcasing a 600 kW CumulusPowerTM UPS frame populated with our 4th generation, high-availability, high-efficiency, hot swappable 60 kW modules offering 540 N+1 in a single footprint. We will also demonstrate one of our most popular frames, which maximises availability, achieving 75kW N+1 within a single footprint of just 0.59 m2. With up to 320 battery blocks internally, this solution offers a great option for facilities with limited space.
“An innovative design also allows the larger CumulusPowerTM UPS systems to be connected from either high or low level, without the requirement for a separate cable entry enclosure,” continues McGarry. “This enables a more adaptable layout within comms rooms and data centres, accommodating the best use of space and potentially reducing installation costs too.”
CumulusPowerTM is known for its “9 nines” (99.9999999%) system availability and low total cost of ownership through its Maximum Efficiency Management (MEM) and low losses of energy. CumulusPowerTM has now been installed in datacenters and comms rooms in over 60 countries across five continents. More than 50 MW of critical power loads are now protected with CumulusPowerTM in locations across the world including: the UK, Singapore, Australia, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic and the Channel Islands.
McGarry continues: “CumulusPowerTM is both a scalable and flexible UPS system that combines class leading availability and efficiency that makes it perfect for use in small, medium and large datacenters. However, not every application requires a modular UPS so we will also showcase PremiumTowerTM, our standalone UPS ideally suited to applications where facilities don’t want to compromise on quality while minimizing total cost of ownership is a significant factor. With PremuimTowerTM, the fans are located at the top of the UPS rather than the back, maximising the use of space: “zero clearance”.
“A flexible and agile approach is more important than ever when it comes to UPS design. True modular UPS systems can be easily right-sized allowing datacenters to ‘pay-as-they grow’. In addition, ongoing running costs are minimized with a correctly sized system and initial CapEx is reduced too.
“At CENTIEL our design team has worked with data centres across the world for many years and we are at the forefront of technological development. We are the trusted advisors to some of the world’s leading institutions in this field. At DCW this year, our team and our UPS experts will be pleased to share their combined knowledge and discuss how to configure the most appropriate and resilient UPS system possible, to minimise both risk and budgets in order to protect the power to datacentres and their valued client base.”
