I don’t think you folks understand how much I love m.u.g.e.n. It’s just…. Kinda amazing how it even exists. Like someone HAD to take the time and energy to MAKE THE ENGINE ITSELF!!
Someone had to build the fight factory software from scratch!! Someone had to figure a way to implement and add new stages and backgrounds. Someone had to figure a way to change the HUD system. People had to code these things in a way that didn’t break the engine itself.
And the people, or rather the company, Elecbyte? Poof. Gone. We haven’t seen or heard from them since like what…. The mid 2000s?
I wonder what they are doing… whatever it is I hope they are all doing well.

I have genuinely thought about making some stuff for mugen, specifically colour separation and colour palettes which does seem to be encouraged by the community. I have a few specific palette ideas rumbling around in my head, specifically maybe making no more heroes themed palettes for certain characters (assuming that they haven't been done before, which is something I am looking into).
#i know gg strive has a mod page and there are a lot of nmh palettes available but i'm not so sure about mugen#like i have only seen ONE grasshopper character and that's dan smith surprisingly. but yeah i am genuinely interested in making stuff but#i'll have to find a mugen site that isn't... walking on eggshells when it comes to posting stuff. mugen archive is like. VERY specific on#moderation and rules which i really respect but if innocent people are getting the ban hammer than thats really concerning#shallow rambles#moderation is better than none but moderation should always be done with reason and have checks and balances in place to hold people#accountable for what they do on the site#m.u.g.e.n.posting

"Shallow, why MUGEN?" you may ask. to that I say it's more interesting that way. Where else am I going to get what is essentially a custom-made fighting game engine that pretty much has its own modding community of sorts making weird, wacky and Hilariously overpowered and edgy emo edits of existing canon characters? trying to find a way to reach out to the creator of titan (one of the few kof mugen ocs i have a crush on) and then he (the creator) proceed to make a post in his community tab and like. it's titan completely shirtless and i'm just like feeling a little attacked right now.

The funniest thing about KOF Anthology is that. It’s roster is not just a mix of official SNK characters and people’s ocs.
It also has characters from other franchises that have been created using the SNK sprite aesthetics, assests, shading style etc etc. like there’s goddamn Naruto, catwoman, one of the characters from rosario + vampire (I think), dark magician girl, ray from ghostbusters (no I’m not joking), scorpion, sailor moon (yes you can play as sailor moon!!!), amongst many many other characters, but more importantly this game also features dante from devil may cry.

I should probably mention this by saying that m.u.g.e.n. Is an epilepsy NIGHTMARE. Seriously AT LEAST 99.9% of edited characters (and just… characters in general) have extremely flashy moves that last for several frames a second. and sometimes if you’re unlucky, you might get caught in a character’s attack pattern where they might execute several flashy moves in succession one after the other.
#I should probably warn people about this because a) many mugen videos are JUST THAT. epilepsy nightmares#<- I cannot stress that enough. DO NOT watch any mugen videos especially if you have any epilepsy#I don’t even know if I could reccomend the engine to anyone fullstop unless you add the base normal version of characters#into your roster. like NO edit characters which should be fine but I should stress that even some basic characters#will have some form of flashing attack or eyestraining sprite frame to them#<- if you download fighter factory you can go through a character’s def files frame by frame and see what moves they have#and if it’s too flashy frame by frame that’s an indication you should probably not have them on your roster#shallow rambles#m.u.g.e.n.posting

The only problem with downloading mugen characters is that you don’t really know how much of a ‘good version’ of a character you have until you give them a test run. Also for some characters they aren’t even a four button or six button character, some are a three button character, especially in situations where the origin of the sprites where the character came from (like a DS Game) are really limited unless an author or creator has gone out of their way to make new sprites or Frankenstein some sprites together to make new ones.
Also just some people like implementing ridiculous overpowered and hard a.I. (Unless you’re into that thing). I’m trust me I’ve had a few occasions where I’ve downloaded a character, went to the training section and just got decimated by my opponent simply because the a.I. Settings are on. You can kind of edit it but that means going through the .Sff file, which stores a LOT of information for the character (sprites, palettes sometimes etc.)

About that whole ‘having a crush on an edit of iori yagami for m.u.g.en.’ , i technically find all, or at least most of the iori edits to be really attractive to me, although one guy stands out from the rest but (by like a tiny bit). It’s this guy (the one on the left), who goes by the name of Titan and um. I am looking respectfully.

(so normal about him)#unfortunately some profiles don't load correctly - which is something still need to fix :/. some are intentionally blank because#I need to put in a character in there that I haven't gotten around to downloading yet.
