it's time i got serious about momus ( a headcanons post )

regarding his domain:

momus is the daimon of mockery, blame, and scorn. he represents a harsh aspect of life, and is the one who brings mockery and shame to those he interacts with. he likes to pick others apart, find their insecurities, and ridicule them. but he also likes to fuel people in their insult of others - that's where the blame piece comes in.

momus feeds on that energy. he will receive no prayers or offerings, but he can swallow up the ill feelings of his victims. he describes it like a hunger, one that borders on addiction, that his existence depends entirely upon how much scorn exists in the world - and even more upon how much he can swallow up. its quite the interesting dependency.

he can feel ill at ease when he does not do as he does best. his own mind 'betrays' him, in a way, feeding on his own insecurities until he can find someone to take his place. momus tries to 'cleanse' himself by not 'feeding' for as long as he can bear, in hopes those intervals will be longer each time. he also does this, because despite his entire life revolving around the shame of others, he still wants some genuine connection. it's hard for him. most people turn the other way when they see him coming, and he knows he'll never be someone's first choice of company. but momus does feel the sting of loneliness, and that is the insecurity his mind preys upon when he's at his weakest.

family:

momus is a classic middle child, who will do anything for the attention of his family members, but is often overlooked. it's an unfortunate reality that his family are the ones he cares for most, but are also the ones who are on the receiving end of his annoying characteristics most often. he's a bit of a mama's boy - she's one of the few he never insults, no matter how much in his nature it is to do so. the other is his father - momus is terrified of erebus, and has had numerous poor encounters with his father that had him running with his metaphorical tail between his legs.

of his siblings, he's likely closest with nemesis, moros, and philotes.

fun facts:

he has a jet black set of wings that he cares for regularly - they are his biggest source of pride, and he loves to show them off.

trans guy whose entire relationship with gender is extremely complex

he likes to draw and will often draw portraits of people he cares about. it's one of the few ways to tell if momus likes you.

he's giving little dancing jester and cheshire cat vibes combined

caught up with this wonderful fic and omg, the wordbuilding, relationships and actionn?? Its a bit of a challenging read but its the longest fic I´ve ever read so it did keep me entertained!

Anyhoo! there��s mention of these aliens called goraaxians and I went ooouuu hmm bird monki. As they´re described as a heavily arboreal species. Also the Jazz design is heavily based on @keferon ´s version I love how expressive they draw him! (also their fanart got me to read momu its awesome!)

so in Hades (Supergiant Games) canon, broadly speaking, the Olympians speak with a British accent and chthonic gods speak with an American accent. In Hades II (mild spoilers), "British" has been expanded to include "rather Irish" and "fairly Scottish."

So I have a question.

!! momus !! or at least my take on him based of the aspect of descura that exists in game! this also counts slightly as my colouring study of the second game as i wanted to see how the lighting worked in areas such as the hair

i was going to make a fake screenshot out of this but for the love of fuck cannot find any of the background assets that appear in dialogue anywhere online and i'm crap at ripping sprites from games. so he's stuck in the void, backgroundless like all my other art pieces

thank you so much???? that actually. really means a lot to me bc he's just my little Guy! he's so annoying!! and i actually really love that you appreciate him as well, because he came out of nowhere and now dominates much of my mind, so thank you <3

i have a few things hiding in my asks / drafts for him that i'm sure i will reply to shortly, once the writing bug returns, but in the meantime, have some more fun details about him i've been stewing on!

momus honestly looks really sweet and innocent and kind. he has a welcoming face and a pretty non-threatening appearance to mortals. he's chubby and round faced and kinda short, and smiles so sweetly you'd think he was going to say something kind - but then he hits you with the deepest, darkest roast you've ever heard. he lives for the surprise on unsuspecting folks faces

i might have said this before but i'll elaborate - momus loves to draw, particularly portraits of real people. he doesn't often know how to actually show affection without souring it with his words, so he'll draw pictures of people he cares about and drop it off without saying anything so they can appreciate the gesture without his mouth getting in the way

momus needing to 'feed' on the insecurities of others and mocking their deepest flaws vs momus being terrified of actually being alone and unloved, fight

loves to fly. one of the few times he's actually Happy and fulfilled without being annoying is when he's flying, and he gets pretty competitive about it, too. flies everywhere, even if its impractical

he's used to people insulting him back. he's used to threats of violence, even. it very very very very rarely bothers him - unless it comes from one of his family members. not even all of them, just specific ones. and not even every insult. some of them just know best how to get under his skin and give him his comeuppance, and that's the only time you'll see momus falter.

is really quite clever and observant, able to pick up on things most people cannot. in fact, clever about everything.... except romance. and friendship. and being loved, generally.

Chapter 26 of Mistakes on Mistakes until AHGDHGAHDFGAHGEA OKAY I really wanted to see how it might look (them trapped in this little hidden box) since... well, it was described like there is almost NO SPACE at all, one mech space only, priority is keeping wings comfortably for Prowl XDDD *inhale-exhale* Okay but, I am still in awe at how Prowl's and Jazz's behaviours are explained. Two immovable forces collide. One is hard to read but Jazz is so damn good at reading even slightest movements, Jazz is a walking lying disaster but Prowl is a walking lie detector. So they both just, ahahsahg, they manage to have normal looking dialogues through all the layers of it because they give up trying to trick it (Jazz still tries though, but it ends up with him accepting failure) XDDD
